Handel uses flutes or recorders in 125 pieces in his operas and oratorios. Flutes appear most frequently in the keys of E minor and B minor, and the relative major keys of G major and D major, and recorders in the keys of F major, B♭ major, and the relative minor keys of D minor and G minor. Other keys are used primarily for special reasons, especially those related to the affections. Most pieces including flutes or recorders are pastoral songs, lovesongs, and laments. This thesis is the result of practice-based research concerning the analysis and performance of solo recorder repertoire composed during the 1990s. Its purpose is to demonstrate that recorder music can support critical scrutiny, and that knowledge gained from analysis can develop a deeper understanding of the rational and empirical aspects of both structure and content, leading to compelling performances governed by, and reflecting, informed choices. Abstract:
The  emergence of the internet and  digitisation  has  led to  the disruption/transformation of  therecorded music industry sector. This has resulted in a shift  from  physical  to  digital  sales, which has also led to a decline in the global recorded music sector revenue. Although largely attributed to piracy and illegal music downloads, some have argued that this was as a result of  the reduction in the perceived value of commercially distributed recorded music. The audio quality of music and user experience has specifically been highlighted to have suffered due to digitisation. Experience

Abstract:
This thesis centres on the P2P internet protocol BitTorrent, music filesharing, and nascent forms of collective action developing through private BitTorrent communities. The focus is on one of these communities, a music filesharing website called ‘OiNK’. Founded in 2005, it was the first of its kind to garner membership in the hundreds of thousands, was emblematic of user-led movements to improve the quality, efficiency and availability of digital media online, and was very publically shut down in 2007. School, a play-based, Reggio-Emilia-inspired preschool in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, the purpose of which was to explore what can happen when young children and adults co-construct music in a social, relationship- and play-based environment. Three questions initially guided this study: 1) How does musical content emerge? 2) How is music play developed in this setting? 3) How do children and their teachers story their music experiences? Abstract:
Critical review of performance is today one of the most common professional and commercial forms of music written response. Despite the availability of representative material and its impact on musicians' careers, there has been little structured enquiry into the way music critics make sense of their experience of performances, and no studies have to date broached the key question of how music performance is reviewed by experts. Adopting an explorative, inductive approach and a novel combination of data reduction and thematic analysis techniques, this thesis presents a systematic investigation
