Full textHome networks are facing a continuous evolution and are becoming more and more complex. Their complexity has evolved according to two interrelated dimensions. On the one hand, the home network topology (devices and connectivity technologies) tends to produce more complex configurations. On the other hand, the set of services accessed through the home network is growing in a tremendous fashion. Such context has made the home network management more challenging for both Internet Service Provider (ISP) and end-users. In this dissertation, we focus on the traffic dimension of the above described complexity. Our first contribution consists on proposing an architecture for traffic monitoring in home networks. We provide a comparative study of some existing open source tools. Then, we perform a testbed evaluation of the main software components implied in our architecture. Based on the experiments results, we discuss several deployment limits and possibilities. In our second contribution, we conduct a residential traffic and usages analysis based on real trace involving more than 34 000 customers. First, we present our data collection and processing methodology. Second, we present our findings with respect to the different layers of the TCP/IP protocol stack characteristics. Then, we perform a subjective analysis across 645 of residential customers. The results of both evaluations provide a complete synthesis of residential usage patterns and applications characteristics. In our third contribution, we propose a novel scheme for real-time residential traffic classification. Our scheme, which is based on a machine learning approach called C5.0, aims to fulfil the lacks identified in the literature. At this aim, our algorithm is evaluated using several traffic inputs. Then, we detail how we implemented a lightweight probe able to capture, track and identify finely applications running in the home network. This implementation allowed us to validate our designing principles upon realistic test conditions. The obtained results show clearly the efficiency and feasibility of our solution

Full textThe objective of this research was to evaluate diagnosis and treatment of early axial spondyloarthritis in clinical practice. For this, we have included in this thesis three articles that reflect the three milestones of our research. First, we aimed to validate the ASAS criteria for axial spondyloarthritis in a clinical practice setting, by evaluating their performance both in terms of classification but also of diagnostic purposes, compared to other sets of criteria and in different spondyloarthritis presentations (e.g. psoriatic arthritis, IBD related-arthritis, etc..). Secondly, since the “clinical” arm of the ASAS criteria for axial spondyloarthritis is not well recognized by many in the medical community, we aimed to compare the demographics, phenotypic and disease characteristics of patients fulfilling the “imaging” and “clinical” arm of the ASAS. Finally, we aimed to evaluate the treatment effect of TNF-alpha blockers in clinical practices and the potential predictors of response (e.g. the fulfilment of the ASAS criteria for axial spondyloarthritis).

"Institutionalizing service-learning as a best practice of community engagement in higher education| Intra- and inter-institutional comparisons of the Carnegie Community Engagement Elective Classification Framework." Thesis, University of Central Florida, 2015. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3732117.
Full textService-learning, with a longstanding history in American higher education (Burkhardt & Pasque, 2005), includes three key tenets: superior academic learning, meaningful and relevant community service, and persistent civic learning (McGoldrick and Ziegert, 2002). The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has created an elective classification system—Carnegie Community Engagement Classification—for institutions of higher education to demonstrate the breadth and depth of student involvement and learning through partnerships and engagement in the community (Dalton & Crosby, 2011; Hurtado & DeAngelo, 2012; Kuh et al., 2008; Pryor, Hurtado, Saenz, Santos, & Korn, 2007). Community engagement “is in the culture, commonly understood practices and knowledge, and (CCEC helps determine) whether it is really happening—rhetoric versus reality” (J. Saltmarsh, personal communication, August 11, 2014). The study considers the applications of three Carnegie Community Engagement Classification designated institutions to understand the institutionalization of service-learning over time by examining the 2008 designation and 2015 reclassification across institution types—a Private Liberal Arts College, a Private Teaching University, and a Public Research University located in the same metropolitan area. Organizational Change Theory was used as a theoretical model. Case study methodology was used in the present qualitative research to perform document analysis with qualitative interviews conducted to elucidate the data from the 2008 and 2015 CCEC applications from the three institutions. Using intra- and inter-comparative analysis, this study highlights approaches, policies, ethos, and emerging concepts to inform how higher education institutions increase the quality and quantity of service-learning opportunities that benefit higher education practitioners as well as community leaders.
