In Brazil, L. (V.) braziliensis is specie responsible for many cases of American Tegumentary Leishmaniasis (ETL). To effective vaccine development, formulations contained immunogenic antigens associated with adjuvants that induce a T helpe 1 (Th1) immune response are been investigated, among of antigen have the “Thiol Specific Antioxidant” (rTSA), “Stress Inducible protein 1” (rSTI) and “Leishmania elongation initiation fator” (rLeIF) of L. major, which have been immunogenic and promising. The genes that corresponding to these antigens in L. (V.) braziliensis were sequenced and recombinants proteins were obtained and used in this study. Works that used BCG and β-glucan showed that these could provide protection against not related pathogens. The present study had as aim to evaluate the immunogenicity and the effectiveness of the vaccine using the rTSA, rSTI and rLeIF proteins (Triple), associated or not with β-glucan, with or without BCG stimulus. BALB/c mice were divided in 2 groups, one of the groups was stimulated with BCG and the other not. Posteriorly, the animals were divided in subgroups and vaccinated with triple, associated or not with β-glucan. Mice’s serum were collected to search of cytokines and antibodies by immunoenzymatic technique. Lymph node and spleen’s cells were cultivated and cytokines searched in supernatants. BCG stimulation induced a greater IFN-γ production. The vaccinated mice with triple produced IgG total, IgG1 and IgG2a specifics to L. (V.) braziliensis. BCG stimulation induced a high IgG total and IgG2a production in animals that received the triple without β-glucan. To evaluate the protection provided by vaccine, the immunized animals were infected with L. (V.) braziliensis and paw them measured along of 8 weeks. The subgroup don’t stimulated with BCG and vaccinated with triple, associated with β-glucan, has developed bigger lesions that the others subgroups. The subgroups that received only BCG stimulation or BCG stimulation and vaccine with triple plus β-glucan presented bigger lesions that animal don’t stimulated or vaccinated. After infection by L. (V.) braziliensis, (i) the animals stimulated with BCG and vaccinated with triple presents more IgG specific to L. (V.) braziliensis; (ii) the immunizations with triple maintained IFN-γ levels elevated; (iii) all animals presented lower IL-17 levels in serum; (iv) the subgroups produced similar IFN-γ levels, but with a high IL-17 production in subgroup vaccinated with triple plus β-glucan, don’t BCG stimulated, in spleen; (v) the animals that received only BCG produced more IFN-γ and IL-17 in lymph node. In conclusion: the immunizations with triple were immunogenic; the immunization scheme containing triple plus β- glucan, without BCG stimulation, provided partial protection against L. (V.) braziliensis infection; BCG stimulations induced biggest lesions in subgroup that received only saline or triple plus β-glucan; the vaccination scheme containing triple maintained high IFN-γ production after L. (V.) braziliensis infection; in infection site, the BCG stimulation induced a Th1/Th17 heterologous response.
No Brasil, L. (V.) braziliensis é a espécie responsável pela maioria dos casos de Leishmaniose Tegumentar Americana (LTA). Para o desenvolvimento de uma vacina eficaz, formulações contendo antígenos imunogênicos, associados com adjuvantes, indutores de uma resposta imune do perfil T auxiliar 1 (Th1), estão sendo investigados, entre eles têm-se o “Thiol Specific Antioxidant” (rTSA), a “Stress Inducible protein 1” (rSTI) e o “Leishmania elongation initiation fator” (rLeIF) de L. major, que se mostraram imunogênicos e promissores. Os genes destas proteínas, de L. (V.) braziliensis, foram sequenciados e as proteínas recombinantes obtidas e utilizadas neste estudo. Trabalhos utilizando BCG e β-glucana mostraram a capacidade destes em fornecer proteção inespecífica. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a imunogenicidade e a eficácia da vacina com as proteínas rTSA, rSTI e Leif (Tríplice) de L. (V.) braziliensis associadas com o adjuvante β-glucana, com ou sem estímulo prévio com BCG. Camundongos BALB/c foram divididos em 2 grupos, um deles inoculado com BCG e o outro não. Posteriormente, os animais foram divididos em subgrupos e vacinados com tríplice, associadas ou não com β-glucana. Foram coletados os soros dos animais para dosagem de citocinas e anticorpos pela técnica imunoenzimática. Células do baço e linfonodo drenante foram cultivadas para dosagem de citocinas no sobrenadante. O estimulo com BCG induziu uma maior produção de IFN-γ. Os camundongos vacinados com a tríplice produziram anticorpos IgG total, IgG1 e IgG2a específicos para L. (V.) braziliensis. O estimulo com BCG induziu uma maior produção de anticorpos IgG total e IgG2a, nos animais vacinados com a tríplice sem β-glucana. Para avaliar a proteção fornecida pela vacina, os animais imunizados foram infectados com L. (V.) braziliensis e as patas mensuradas durante 8 semanas. O subgrupo, não estimulado com BCG e vacinado com a tríplice, associada com β-glucana, desenvolveu lesões menores que os demais subgrupos (p<0,05). Os subgrupos que receberam apenas BCG ou foram vacinados com a tríplice mais β-glucana apresentaram lesões maiores que os animais não estimulados e imunizados (p<0,05). Após a infecção por L. (V.) braziliensis, (i) os animais estimulados e vacinados com a tríplice apresentaram níveis elevados de IgG específicos para L. (V.) braziliensis; (ii) as imunizações com a tríplice mantiveram os níveis de IFN-γ aumentados (p<0,05); (iii) todos os animais apresentaram menores concentrações de IL-17, no soro; (iv) houve detecção similar de IFN-γ entre os subgrupos, mas com uma maior produção de IL-17 no subgrupo vacinado com a tríplice mais β-glucana, não estimulados com BCG, no baço (p<0,05); (v) os animais que receberam apenas BCG produziram mais IFN-γ e IL-17, no linfonodo drenante. Conclui-se que: as imunizações com tríplice foram imunogênicas; o esquema de imunização com a tríplice mais β-glucana, sem estimulo com BCG, forneceu proteção parcial contra a infecção por L. (V.) braziliensis; o estimulo com BCG induziu lesões maiores nos subgrupos que receberam salina ou a tríplice mais β- glucana; o esquema de vacinação com a tríplice manteve a produção de IFN-γ elevada após a infecção por L. (V.) braziliensis; no sitio de infecção, o estimulo com a BCG levou a uma resposta heteróloga Th1/Th17.

In the study of triple systems, one question faced is that of finding for what order a decomposition exists. We state and prove a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a bicyclic mixed triple system based on the three possible partial orientations of the 3-cycle with twice as many arcs as edges. We also explore the existence of rotational and reverse mixed triple systems. Our principal proof technique applied is the difference method. Finally, this work contains a result on packing of complete mixed graphs on v vertices, Mv, with isomorphic copies of two of the mixed triples and a possible leave structure.

La sequence d'un adn bicatenaire peut etre reconnue par un oligodesoxynucleotide simple brin qui se fixe dans le grand sillon de la double helice, formant localement une triple helice. La formation d'une triple helice reste limitee a des sequences homopuriques-homopyrimidiques, ou toutes les purines (a ou g) se trouvent sur le meme brin. La specificite de ce ligand pour sa cible, qui repose sur la formation de liaisons hydrogene de type hoogsteen, a ete mesuree par spectroscopie d'absorption. L'introduction d'une mutation ponctuelle sur la cible induit une perte d'affinite importante du ligand, confirmant sa specificite de fixation. Un phenomene de luminescence aisement observable, le transfert d'energie d'excitation, a permis de distinguer une cible complementaire d'une cible mutee. L'affinite d'un oligodesoxynucleotide pour une sequence mixte, comprenant une ou deux pyrimidine(s) dans le brin riche en purines a ete egalement etudiee. Contrairement au cas de l'adn double-brin, peu de ligands de la triple helice sont connus. Le bromure d'ethidium s'intercale dans une triple helice, avec une affinite moindre que pour une double helice. Le site a la jonction entre la double et la triple-helice s'est revele tres favorable a l'intercalation de differents composes. Une recherche systematique sur differents composes aromatiques plans a permis de mettre en evidence des ligands specifiques de la triple helice capable de s'intercaler entre deux triplets de bases t. Engenharia Electrotécnica e ComputadoresTriple play is a service that combines three types of services: voice, data and multimedia over a single communication channel for a price that is less than the total price of the individual services. However there is no standard for provisioning the Triple play services, rather they are provisioned individually, since the requirements are quite different for each service. The digital revolution helped to create and deliver a high quality media solutions. One of the most demanding services is the Video on Demand (VoD). This implicates a dedicated streaming channel for each user in order to provide normal media player commands (as pause, fast forward). Most of the multimedia companies that develops personalized products does not always fulfil the users needs and are far from being cheap solutions. The goal of the project was to create a reliable and scalable triple play solution that works via Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), fully capable of dealing with the existing state of the art multimedia technologies only resorting to open-source tools. This project was design to be a transparent web environment using only web technologies to maximize the potential of the services. HyperText Markup Language (HTML),Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript were the used technologies for the development of the applications. Both a administration and user interfaces were developed to fully manage all video contents and properly view it in a rich and appealing application, providing the proof of concept. The developed prototype was tested in a WLAN with up to four clients and the Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) was measured for several combinations of active services. In the end it is possible to acknowledge that the developed prototype was capable of dealing with all the problems of WLAN technologies and successfully delivery all the proposed services with high QoE.

I denna rapport presenteras utveckling och prototyptillverkning av ramen och tiltfunktionen till en tiltbar reverse trike. En reverse trike är ett fordon med ett bakhjul och två framhjul. Bakhjulet är det drivande hjulet medan de två framhjulen är de styrande. Ett personligt intresse har alltid funnits för cyklar och cykelliknande fordon med fler än två hjul. I stort sett samtliga cyklar av den typen som finns kommersiellt tillgängliga idag använder sig utav en stel ram med begränsad fjädring på respektive hjul. Problemet med dessa är att de inte ger samma inlevelse vid färd som exempelvis en vanlig tvåhjulig cykel eller en motorcykel där fordonet kan lutas vid kurvtagning för att bättre utnyttja vikt och tyngdpunkt för att inte tippa. Det är den känslan som saknas hos dagens cykelliknande fordon. Projektet är utfört som ett examensarbete inom Produktutveckling – konstruktion under våren 2014 på Mälardalens högskola och är på D-nivå (30 högskolepoäng). Frågeställningarna som ligger till grund för projektet är: 1. Vilka regler gäller för ett pedallöst cykelklassat fordon? 2. Vilket material bör användas för att få en lätt och hållbar konstruktion? 3. Vilken lösning lämpar sig bäst för fjädring? 4. Hur kan ramen konstrueras för att möjliggöra tiltning? Projektet inleds med en informationsinhämtning där lagar och regler kring den typen av fordon undersöks och problemscenarion tas fram. Resultaten ligger sedan till grund för genereringsprocessen som avslutas med en konceptrealisering och prototyptillverkning. Under arbetet har funktionslösningar analyserats och med beräkningar har hållfastheten på prototypen fastställts. Det slutliga konceptet är en ram för en rent eldriven cykel av typen reverse trike, det vill säga att cykeln har ett bakhjul och två stycken framhjul. Den är rent eldriven och det innebär att fordonet inte har pedaler för framdrivning utan att den endast drivs av en elmotor. Det som skiljer detta koncept från befintliga produkter och som dessutom är huvudsyftet med konceptet och gör det unikt, är möjligheten att tilta som idag är i stort sett obefintligt hos konkurrenterna. Det har inte kunnat utföras några tester då prototypen inte hann färdigställas. Konceptet uppfyller endast genom teoretisk analys de krav som har ställts. Prototypen tillverkas i aluminiumprofiler av typen EN6063-T6, Aluminiumplåt av typen EN6082-T6 samt ett antal detaljer i nylon och stål. Konceptet uppfyller kraven från Transporstyrelsen vilket gör den laglig att framföras i trafik enligt svensk lag.

Many Americans know Alzheimer’s disease for its devastating physical, emotional, and financial impact on patients as well as their family members and friends. According to the Alzheimer’s Association’s recent national survey, 73 million voters have had a family member or friend with the disease, indicating that the nation is aware of the disease’s affect on patients, their relatives, friends, and caretakers.
Many are unaware, however, that Alzheimer’s could impose an enormous economic burden on the nation. Harry Johns, the president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association, calls Alzheimer’s “a triple threat unlike any other disease with its soaring prevalence, lack of treatment and enormous cost.” Nearly 5.3 million Americans are currently diagnosed with this untreatable disease. As the elderly continue to age, the demand for government aid in the form of Medicare and Medicaid will increase. This increasing demand, along with the decline in the labor force participation rate, will increase costs to all those affected by Alzheimer’s in the coming decades.
The federal government has assumed leadership in the fight against Alzheimer’s by passing legislation to secure funding and establish a timeline for research, engage stakeholders, and provide support for Alzheimer’s patients, families, and caregivers. This thesis offers a holistic view of the current challenges facing the Alzheimer’s community, including costs of the disease to patients, families, and to society. It also includes an overview of Alzheimer’s legislation that addresses these challenges and provides a budget for scientific research for a treatment or a cure in the next decade to prevent the impending national fiscal catastrophe. This thesis will provide recommendations for how policy makers can decrease the likelihood that the federal government will be forced to pay the projected cumulative $20 trillion total cost of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias by 2050. This thesis also recommends ways to provide immediate support the growing number of caregivers to Alzheimer’s patients.

This thesis is dedicated to the Tits-Kantor-Koecher (TKK) construction which establishes a bijective correspondence between unital Jordan algebras and shortly graded Lie algebras with Z-grading induced by an sl_2-triple. It is based on the observation that if g is a Lie algebra with a short Z-grading and f lies in g_1, then the formula ab=[[a,f],b] defines a structure of a Jordan algebra on g_{-1}. The TKK construction has been extended to Jordan triple systems and, more recently, to the so-called Kantor triple systems. These generalizations are studied in the thesis.

The first part of this thesis is concerned with the synthesis, characterisation and applications of surface functionalised carbon nanoparticles. Synthetic techniques are used to modify the existing surface architecture of carbon nanoparticles towards high surface area modified electrodes and pH sensing applications. Electrochemical and synthetic techniques have been used to study triple phase boundaries and enhance their properties towards a bulk synthetic technique, in which an electrolyte phase and redox probe phase are held separate. A salt matrix, ultrasound, high shear force and a carbon fibre membrane have all been used to form unique triple phase boundary environments in which electron and ion transfer processes can be studied and enhanced towards analytical and electrosynthetic applications. A number of electro-reduction reactions have been shown to be feasible using the triple phase boundary methodology. Alkenes, aldehydes and imines have all been successfully electro-reduced, analysed and optimised to elucidate the synthetic triple phase boundary mechanism.

Triplex-forming oligonucleotides (TFOs) have been the subject of extensive research in recent years. They have potential applications in many areas; such as gene-based therapies, site-directed mutation and as biochemical tools. However, triplex technology has been hampered by several problems, including low stability due to electrostatic repulsion between strands. This thesis has investigated combinations of four methods for stabilising triplex DNA; these include incorporation of the positively charged thymine analogues bis-amino-U and propargylamino-dU in TFOs. Also modified TFO’s containing anthraquinone derivatives have been tested. Further, the free-intercalating agent naphthylquinoline has been used to modulate TFO binding. A TFO containing six consecutive BAU molecules has previously been shown to interact with non-target sites. The pH dependence of this TFO was investigated. These experiments showed that considerably higher TFO concentrations were needed to generate a footprint as the pH was increased. The TFO had a high affinity for the exact template (tyrT) at pH 5.0 and 6.0 and showed some evidence of binding even at 30 μM at pH 7.0. These gels also showed evidence of the secondary binding seen in previous studies; this was considerably more evident at pH 5.0, however, suggesting that the secondary binding may be more sensitive to pH than the primary binding. Secondary binding sites for TFOs were examined by ‘Restriction Endonuclease Protection, Selection and Amplification’ or REPSA. REPSA has been used to select for DNA templates that are bound by the 9mer TFO containing six bis-amino-U residues. Fourteen of the sequences which emerged from REPSA were chosen for footprinting with TFOs containing BAU, propargylaminodU or T. The BAU-TFO produced clear footprints on all but one of the REPSA templates tested, indicating that the REPSA process was successful in selecting for sequences which are bound by the TFO. Significantly higher concentrations of the P-TFO were required, and magnesium chloride and / or the triplex binding ligand naphthylquinoline were needed to promote binding. Despite the differences in template sequence there does not appear to be a strong pattern in the binding intensities of the TFOs on the different templates. However, all templates do contain a run of four to eight A’s. Surprisingly it appears from these data that the BAU TFO discriminates better than the P-TFO against non-exact binding sites The selectivity of TFOs containing anthraquinone modifications was also investigated. Anthraquinone intercalates between DNA bases in duplex DNA and can be tethered to the end of a TFO to increase stability. The specificity of five TFOs with different anthraquinone modifications was examined by footprinting against fragments containing mismatches. A doubly modified TFO bound with the highest affinity and was most tolerant of mismatches. Mismatches at the centre of the template had a lesser effect on binding affinity than mismatches at the 3’ end. The effect of a 3’ mismatch was also greater if the anthraquinone was at this end. The presence of an S-base at the 3’ end allowing intercalation of the anthraquinone at a YpR step increased the binding affinity on the exact template in comparison to TFO 3 which did not contain the S-base. The TFO containing the S base did not bind quite as well as the doubly modified TFO however.

Les phases d’appui étant déterminantes, nous mettons en e��vidence pour chacune d’elles, des variables cinématiques et cinétiques relatives au comportement global du corps. Associating videographics tools to dynamics ones, it is possible to realise a mechanical study of the behaviour of athlete during the execution of his movements. In this works, we have chosen a track and field event : the Triple Jump. Support phases being de ciding, we put in a prominent for each of them, kinematics parameters relative to behaviour of the centre of mass of the body. Studied together, these parameters allow us to understand the performance measured to centre of mass during flight phases. We consider so, the influence of different segments on behaviour of the body during support phases and flight phases, what allows to detect possible problems encountered by the athlete all along his jump. At last, we analyse others types of parameters with the aim to grasp better jump’s technique characteristic of each athlete

The triple tangent bundle T3M of a manifold M is a prime example of a triple vector bundle. The definition of a general triple vector bundle is a cube of vector bundles that commute in the strict categorical sense. We investigate the intrinsic features of such cubical structures, introducing systematic notation, and further studying linear double sections; a generalization of sections of vector bundles. A set of three linear double sections on a triple vector bundle E yields a total of six different routes from the base manifold M of E to the total space E. The underlying commutativity of the vector bundle structures of E leads to the concepts of warp and ultrawarp, concepts that measure the noncommutativity of the six routes. The main theorem shows that despite this noncommutativity, there is a strong relation between the ultrawarps. The methods developed to prove the theorem rely heavily on the analysis of the core double vector bundles and of the ultracore vector bundle of E. This theorem provides a conceptual proof of the Jacobi identity, and a new interpretation of the curvature of a connection on a vector bundle A.

Certain properties, such as cracking or corrosion, can occur mainly along grain boundaries. Certain types of boundaries may be more beneficial for material properties. The way that the boundaries are connected in a material can determine how boundaries will affect properties, for instance, whether or not crack resistant boundaries will arrest the growth of a crack. Boundaries in a polycrystalline material connect together at triple junctions. In this paper, we examine how the distribution of low angle boundaries at triple junctions varies with the texture of a material.

Since 1847 when Rev. T.P. Kirkman published his first paper [24], research in Steiner triple systems has grown steadily. With increased and ready access to more powerfiul computers in recent times, this growth has accelerated significantly. Problems are now being solved which were previously considered too 'big' to contemplate using pure Mathematical techniques. Cycle structure is an area of Steiner triple systems which has been largely unexplored and was chosen for this thesis as it offers an opportunity to develop and expand knowledge by applying a mixture of computational and theoretical techniques. For each pair of elements of an STS(v) it is possible to define a cycle list comprising a set of cycles. The length n, of an element of a cycle list is necessarily greater than or equal to 4 and less than or equal to (v-3). The cycle structure of an STS(v) is the collection of all vC 2 cycle lists for that STS(v). An operation that can be carried out on a Steiner triple system is that of cycle switching. Switching an n-cycle in one Steiner triple system will produce a new Steiner triple system that is not usually isomorphic to the original system. The operation of cycle switching is investigated and the survey of 4-cycle switching given by P. Gibbons[12] for the 80 STS(15)s is extended to 6, 8 and 12-cycles. Various well known recursive constructions such as the 'doubling construction' and the 'product construction' produce Steiner triple systems based upon previously given Steiner triple systems. An analysis of these constructions and their effect on the cycle structure of the Steiner triple system produced is considered in this thesis. From this work it is now possible, by knowing the cycle structure of the given system, to predict the cycle structure of the produced Steiner triple system. This is of significant use in producing Steiner triple systems lacking certain forbidden configurations. Perfect and uniform Steiner triple systems may be defined as systems having highly regular cycle structures of two closely related types. Prior to this thesis the total knowledge of perfect and uniform Steiner triple systems was scant and in the case of perfect systems limited to only four values of v. This thesis presents a new technique that produces both perfect and uniforni Steiner triple systems. This technique increases the total number of known perfect Steiner triple systems from four to thirteen and is only limited here by the large size of the systems being produced. A fi.irther area of considerable development in this thesis is the production of previously unknown equivalence classes of Steiner triple systems. This has been achieved by using a combination of cycle switching, an appropriate construction methodology and computer analysis techniques. This thesis is a comprehensive study of the cycle structures of Steiner triple systems and documents some significant new results and techniques that will be of use to anyone interested in Steiner triple systems.

We use a quantum master equation approach to study the transport properties of a triple quantum dot ring. Unlike double quantum dots and triple quantum dot chains, this geometry gives two transport paths with a relative phase sensitive to magnetic flux via the Aharonov-Bohm effect. This gives rise to a coherent population trapping effect and what is known as a "dark state". Unlike other master equation techniques valid only in the high bias voltage limit, our treatment reproduces such results as well as giving an analytic zero-bias conductance formula. As well as providing a more robust signature of this "dark state" physics, our model further predicts a negative differential resistance in connection with high bias rectification already predicted.Nous utilisons une approche d´equation quantique maîtresse pour étudier les propriétés de transport des points quantiques triples en forme d'anneau. Contrairement aux points quantiques doubles et triples en forme de chaînes, cette géométrie offre deux chemins pour le transport avec une phase quantique relative qui est sensible au flux magnétique en raison de l'effet Aharonov-Bohm. Ceci méne à un effet de piégeage de population cohérent et cela est connu sous le nom d'un "état sombre". Contrairement à d'autres techniques d'équation maîtresse qui sont seulement valides dans la limite d'un potentiel électrique élevé, notre méthode reproduit les résultats de ces derniers en plus de donner une expression analytique pour la conductance différentielle de zéro potentiel électrique. The phylogenetic relationships of the tribe Elachipterini were investigated based on the examination of 75 species from most zoogeographical realms except the Australasian realm. Sixty-eight exemplar species were included in a cladistic analysis based on 77 morphological characters of adult specimens. Nine genera are recognized in the Elachipterini: Allomedeia gen. nov., Alombus Becker, Anatrichus Loew, Ceratobarys, Coquillett, Disciphus Becker, Elachiptera Macquart, Goniaspis Duda, Melanochaeta Bezzi and Sepsidoscinis Hendel. Myrmecosepsis Kertesz is synonymised with Anatrichus, and Togeciphus Nishijima and Cyrtomomyia Becker are synonymised with Elachiptera. Twenty new combinations are established. A key to genera of the tribe Elachipterini is provided. Redescriptions of the genera are included. The new genus Allomedeia is described, including the description of the type species, Allomedeia xanthotes sp. nov.Une étude phylogénétique de la tribut des Elachipterini, incluant 75 espèces provenant de la majorité des régions biogéographiques, ainsi qu'une analyse cladistique, basée sur 77 caractères morphologiques des adultes de 68 espèces examplaires, ont été réalisées. The tribe Millettieae belongs to the family Leguminosae. As traditionally circumscribed it comprises approximately 45 genera and over 900 species distributed pantropically and in subtropical regions. Previous phylogenetic studies revealed that many genera in the tribe are not monophyletic. The most problematic genus is the massive genera Millettia. Various authors have attempted to clarify generic circumscription since the genus was established in 1834. This thesis attempts to clarify the phylogenetic relationships of doubtfully placed genera of the tribe Millettieae, with the emphasis on the polyphyletic genus Millettia and its closed allies. Forty-five genera placed in the Millettioid s.l. were sampled for phylogeny reconstruction, representing 22 genera putatively part of the Core Millettieae, 17 genera from the Basal millettioid & phaseoloid group (BMP) of the Millettioid s.str. Group, and six genera from the IRLC Clade. Phylogenetic relationships are reconstructed in this study using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian analysis. Three DNA markers were used in the study, which included published and newly-generated sequence data. In total, there were 361 sequences of the ribosomal nuclear DNA (nrDNA) ITS region; a combined chloroplast (matK+trnL-F) included 306 individuals, and the total evidence analysis (ITS+matK+trnL-F) included 436 individuals. The Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian analyses which produced comparable phylogenies are largely congruent. The total evidence phylogeny supported the monophyly of genera in Millettioid s.str. Group, namely Antheroporum, Apurimacia, Chadsia, Leptoderris, Mundulea, Philenoptera, Piscidia, Platysepalum, Pongamiopsis, Pyranthus, Solori, Sylvichadsia and Tephrosia, while others were not monophyletic and need to be re-evaluated, namely Dahlstedtia, Deguelia, Derris, Fordia, Lonchocarpus, Millettia, Muellera, Ptycholobium and Requienia. Genera with uncertain placement that now more robustly placed are: Antheroporum and Disynstemon in the Basal Millettioid and phaseoloid group (BMP), and Deguelia, Fordia, Leptoderris, Platysepalum and Sylvichadsia in the Core Millettieae. In case of genus Millettia, all sequences were distributed between Group 1 and Group 2 of the Millettioid s.str. Group, groups which correspond with the Canavanine Group and the Non-canavanine Group. Within these groups eleven subgroups were recognized. iii The distribution of canavanine, a Non-Protein Amino Acid Accumulating (NPAAA), is explored by means of a literature review, in the light of the new phylogenetic hypothesis. The investigation found three species without canavanine in the Canavanine Group, and two species with canavanine in the Non-canavanine Group. Consequently, these groups are considered whether to retain old names or proposed possible alternative names. In order to retain the monophyletic Derris, a need for a new combination and a new name for Millettia pachycarpa Benth. was identified. Here Derris lithocarpa (Benth.) Mattapha & Hawkins, com.nov. et nom.nov. is proposed. In relation to this, a new species of Derris from Thailand is newly described as Derris constricta Mattapha & Hawkins, sp.nov. Furthermore, three new species Millettia are also newly described, two species from Thailand namely M. calcicola Mattapha & Hawkins, sp.nov. and M. khaoyaiensis Mattapha & Hawkins, sp.nov. and another species from Vietnam, M. fulva Mattapha, Forest & Hawkins, sp.nov. However, the generic placement for these new species might yet prove to be provisional, since generic limits remain unsatisfactory.
