Resumen
The aim of this study was to explore the experience of parents whose children are in active treatment for various types of cancer. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 parents. Through interpretative phenomenological analysis, five themes were derived: a) response to the diagnosis, b) parental “navigating” through the new life situation, c) “being in the hospital”, d) sources of additional “burden”, and e) those who made the process of treatment easier. The majority of parents used active coping strategies; for example, they tried to mobilise existing resources, focused on the present and lived a “day-by-day” kind of life. As aggravating circumstances of treatment, they noted inadequate physical conditions, increased costs of living, inadequate support of family members and a prejudicial environment. During the process of medical treatment, parents found the following factors helpful: child's strength, other parents’ support, community members, and the expertise of medical staff. This paper emphasises the complexities and importance of understanding parenting processes that can operate throughout the disease trajectory for families experiencing paediatric cancer. The findings on the experience of parents gives increasing insight into difficulties but also into parental protectiveness, which can contribute to defining the interventions for strengthening their parental role.

Resumen
The purpose of the study was to investigate whether a 24-hr recording period is sufficient to describe physical activity (PA) of 1 week for intraindividual comparison in older adults. Furthermore, the authors analyzed whether physical performance can be used as a surrogate marker of PA. PA was captured on 7 consecutive days by a body-fixed sensor in 44 community-dwelling older adults (80.75 ± 4.05 yr). Mean times of walking and of “time on feet” of the group were 10.2 hr (± 3.5) and 35.1 hr (± 9.43), respectively. Intraindividual variabilities of walking and of time on feet were 31.9% ± 10.79% and 19.4% ± 8.76%, respectively. Accumulated time of variables of PA showed no differences between weekdays, with variabilities of 3.8% and 1.8% for walking and time on feet, respectively. Association between Short Physical Performance Battery and PA was limited (walkingr= .397, time on feetr= .41).

Resumen
AbstractPreprints promote the open and fast communication of non-peer reviewed work. Once a preprint is published in a peer-reviewed venue, the preprint server updates its web page: a prominent hyperlink leading to the newly published work is added. Linking preprints to publications is of utmost importance as it provides readers with the latest version of a now certified work. Yet leading preprint servers fail to identify all existing preprint–publication links. This limitation calls for a more thorough approach to this critical information retrieval task: overlooking published evidence translates into partial and even inaccurate systematic reviews on health-related issues, for instance. We designed an algorithm leveraging the Crossref public and free source of bibliographic metadata to comb the literature for preprint–publication links. We tested it on a reference preprint set identified and curated for a living systematic review on interventions for preventing and treating COVID-19 performed by international collaboration: the COVID-NMA initiative (covid-nma.com). The reference set comprised 343 preprints, 121 of which appeared as a publication in a peer-reviewed journal. While the preprint servers identified 39.7% of the preprint–publication links, our linker identified 90.9% of the expected links with no clues taken from the preprint servers. The accuracy of the proposed linker is 91.5% on this reference set, with 90.9% sensitivity and 91.9% specificity. This is a 16.26% increase in accuracy compared to that of preprint servers. We release this software as supplementary material to foster its integration into preprint servers’ workflows and enhance a daily preprint–publication chase that is useful to all readers, including systematic reviewers. This preprint–publication linker currently provides day-to-day updates to the biomedical experts of the COVID-NMA initiative.

At stake is the continuation of Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program-funded health insurance to our most vulnerable children—those living in poverty and those with chronic health conditions. Current legislation proposes to impose block grants or per capita caps on federal funding for Medicaid and will put the reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program at risk. Schools stand to lose over 4 billion dollars in reimbursement for services that students need to succeed in school.

Resumen
Certain episodes of intense fieldwork, though documented on site and working their way into print, may later haunt their erstwhile scribe as though clamoring for more thematic salience. Decades after the events recalled in this essay, a distinguished pianist invited her peripatetic friend to participate in a literary occasion to take place in a spacious living room (accommodating a grand piano) where for years she has been previewing new programs for an intimate audience. Accepting this generous invitation, the writer thought to placate that tenacious clamor by arranging elements of forays into the Malien bush so as to take them up a hermeneutical notch. The resulting text combines seasoned narrative (culled from a book entertaining the notion of a pan-African hunting goddess) with spruced up journal entries—thus reviving sensations inviting reflective embellishment. Figurative codas expand the tenor of each trip as gleaming or murky. However remote the donsonton from their collective ken, the audience in that room excelled in listening.

Resumen
The way in which some elderly widowers living alone experientially organize time can be viewed as on a continuum structured around the notion of a “day” as a central organizing focus. Related to this is the role of a “daily highlight” in organizing daily activities. The continuing role of bereavement, effects of living alone, and other factors may help structure this experiential continuum.

In this article Martha Stewart discusses how illness affects diabetes management and outlines the ‘sick-day advice’ that should be shared with people living with type 1 and type 2 diabetes Intercurrent illness can cause glucose levels to rise in people with diabetes mellitus. These illnesses include the common cold, diarrhoea and vomiting, urinary tract infections and COVID-19. If diabetes is not managed well during illness it can escalate and result in more serious conditions, such as diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state (HHS), which would require emergency hospital admission. Resumen
The article introduces the “alive” sketches of everyday life from the subject-spatial environment of the intellectuals’ existence in the interwar city, reflected in the letters to an archaeologist, ethnographer and museum worker Petro Kurinnyj, for scientific use. Senders were talking about day-to-day problems, asking for help, soliciting for improvement of living conditions, etc. First of all, echoes of the housing crisis of the interwar city and attempts to solve the housing problem through usage of not habitable space are recorded in the letters, received by the head of the museum institution from friends, colleagues and/or acquaintances. The addressers referred to the ongoing repairs and furnishing private residences and workplaces, humidity and low temperatures during the autumn-winter period, the issues with heating and other utilities, often mentioned the health problems caused by both non-ideal living/working conditions and misunderstandings with colleagues, etc. A significant advantage of urban space was the ability to keep an eye on professional life events, to communicate with co-workers in (non)formal atmosphere. The possibility of lodging in the Lavra Museum (since 1926 the All-Ukrainian Museum Town) during scientific trips facilitated researchers’ academic mobility. In the letters to Petro Kurinnyj different daily practices of the intellectual community in the interwar period are depicted: overtime work and unlimited work time, burdened with tasks, recuperation and vacations, communication in family and professional circles. At the same time, the senders wrote down their difficult financial situation, pecuniary problems and, time to time, lack of food. A detailed review of the letters to Petro Kurinnyj through micro-historical optics enables further contextual studies on the history of the intellectual community in the interwar city. Key words: Petro Kurinnyj, intellectual community, everyday life, housing problems, history of archaeology, city, UkrSSR, 1920s–1930s.

Resumen
Background:Adults with arthritis can benefit from participation in physical activity and may be assisted by organized programs. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a 20-week behavioral lifestyle intervention, Active Living Every Day (ALED), for improvements in primary outcomes (physical activity levels, aerobic endurance, function, symptoms). Methods:A 20-week randomized controlled community trial was conducted in 354 adults. Outcomes were assessed at baseline and 20 weeks in the intervention and wait-list control groups. The intervention group was also assessed at 6 and 12 months. Mean outcomes were determined by multilevel regression models in the intervention and control groups at follow-up points. Results:At 20 weeks, the intervention group significantly increased participation in physical activity, and improved aerobic endurance, and select measures of function while pain, fatigue and stiffness remained status quo. In the intervention group, significant improvements in physical activity at 20 weeks were maintained at 6 and 12 months, and stiffness decreased. Conclusions:ALED appears to improve participation in physical activity, aerobic endurance, and function without exacerbating disease symptoms in adults with arthritis.

Resumen
Abstract World Kidney Day (WKD) is a global campaign to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to overall health and to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and associated health problems worldwide. Kidney disease is a non-communicable disease (NCD) and currently affects around 850 million people worldwide. One in ten adults has chronic kidney disease (CKD). The global burden of CKD is increasing, and is projected to become the 5th most common cause of years of life lost globally by 2040. CKD is a major cause of catastrophic health expenditure. The costs of dialysis and transplantation consume 2–3% of the annual healthcare budget in high-income countries. Crucially, kidney disease can be prevented and progression to end-stage kidney disease can be delayed with appropriate access to basic diagnostics and early treatment. This year World Kidney Day continues to raise awareness of the increasing burden of kidney diseases worldwide and to strive for kidney health for everyone, everywhere. During the pandemic with COVID 19 patients kidneys are also damaged, apart from the respiratory tract and other organs. It can lead to an increase in acute renal failure and consequent chronic kidney insufficiency, as well as number of deaths. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the renal function in each patient with COVID 19 virus. In the Republic of North Macedonia from 2006 to present day nephrologists and other medical personnel devoted to the early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of renal disease have participated in the activities of the World Kidney Day. These activities were supported by the Macedonian Society of Nephrology, Dialysis, Transplantation and Artificial Organs, the Department of Nephrology at the Medical Faculty, the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, non-governmental nephrology organizations (NEFRON) and the media. There were lectures and presentation devoted to the various theme of the WKD, publications in journals, as well as activities for examination of the renal function of patients in the medical centers. The activities during the WKD contributed to the improvement of the nephrological protection of the citizens of the Republic of N. Macedonia.

Resumen
Abstract In this paper, we demonstrate how the collaborative and sequential unfolding of a story ties into the constitution of a membership categorization device which we have glossed as ‘us and them’. The data come from a focus group activity where first and second generation immigrants to Denmark have been asked to discuss their situation in Denmark. Using Ethnomethodological Conversation and Membership Categorization Analysis, we present one story which involves a story-teller and his family and an elderly Danish couple living in the same block of flats. In the telling of the story, co-participants align and affiliate, and disalign and disaffiliate, at sequentially relevant junctions. We will argue that not only do such phenomena indicate listenership and possible agreement to the moral of the story in its telling, but also to the morally implicative categorical work involved in the story’s telling.

Resumen
We examined the hypothesis that weight loss in heart failure patients is associated with elevated daily energy expenditure. Twelve cachectic patients [age = 73 +/- 6 yr; weight loss = 15 +/- 6 kg; body mass index (BMI) = 21 +/- 5 kg/m2], 13 noncachectic patients (age = 67 +/- 5 yr; BMI = 27 +/- 5 kg/m2), and 50 healthy elderly controls (age = 69 +/- 6 yr; BMI = 26 +/- 4 kg/m2) were studied. Daily energy expenditure and it components were measured using doubly labeled water and indirect calorimetry and body composition by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Fat mass and fat-free mass were lower (P < 0.05) in cachectic patients compared with noncachectic patients and healthy controls. Daily energy expenditure was lower (P < 0.05) in cachectic patients (1,870 +/- 347 kcal/day) compared with noncachectic patients (2,349 +/- 545 kcal/day) and healthy controls (2,543 +/- 449 kcal/day). Differences in daily energy expenditure were primarily due to lower (P < 0.05) physical activity energy expenditure in cachectic (269 +/- 307 kcal/day) and noncachectic patients (416 +/- 361 kcal/day) compared with healthy controls (728 +/- 374 kcal/day). A lower (P < 0.05) resting energy expenditure was also noted in cachectic patients (1,414 +/- 210 kcal/day) compared with noncachectic patients (1,698 +/- 252 kcal/day) and healthy controls (1,561 +/- 223 kcal/day). These findings show that daily energy expenditure is not higher, but significantly lower, in cachectic heart failure patients due to lower physical activity and resting energy expenditure. These results argue against the hypothesis that an abnormally elevated daily energy expenditure is associated with weight loss in heart failure.

Resumen
Background. Little research has been conducted on relations between challenging working and living conditions and psychological distress in Latino migrant day laborers (LMDLs), a particularly marginalized Latino population in the United States. Aims. Consistent with a structural-environmental framework of LMDL vulnerability to health and mental health problems, this study tests a model of hypothesized pathways between working and living conditions and multiple forms of psychological distress. Method. Structural equation modeling was used to test the conceptual model with 344 LMDLs who participated in a cross-sectional survey in the San Francisco Bay Area. Results. As hypothesized, results reveal pathways between (1) working and living conditions; (2) working and living conditions and depression, as well as desesperación (desperation), the latter a Latino cultural idiom of distress frequently expressed by LMDLs; and (3) between living conditions and alcohol use. Discussion. Findings increase understanding regarding how challenging working and living conditions contribute to the same, as well as different, forms of psychological distress in LMDLs. Conclusions. Implications for mitigating structural vulnerability to psychological distress can be addressed at multiple social-ecological levels ranging from community-based support for enhancing LMDL employment (e.g., via day labor centers) to expanding the availability of work authorization for undocumented workers.
