The exploitative sand mining in Selat District contributed to the economic growth; however, the local people were never aware that it had caused the environment to be degraded. The phenomenon of the exploitative sand mining is used as the theme and subject matter of an art creation. From what was observed by the artist, an insight into something contributed to a creative process. The problem was reflected in the form of language using the method of hyperbole. The art creation was created using the structured, spontaneous and intuitive creative steps and method which led to a unique elaboration of all the imaginary components and a creative metaphor and concept. The creation was designed in a studio before it was moved to or arranged around the mining area. The relation between the location of presentation and people could become a specific strength as it was in accordance with the context of the subject matter. The target of the art work did not only constitute an individual expression which was limited to the matter of common aesthetics but it was also used as the way of and the tool for transmitting (campaigning) an environmental issue. The art creation could be used to inspire people, as individuals and groups, to participate in the attempt made to preserve the eco-system

Resumen
ABSTRACT The response of Escherichia coli central carbon metabolism to genetic and environmental manipulation has been studied by use of a recently developed methodology for metabolic flux ratio (METAFoR) analysis; this methodology can also directly reveal active metabolic pathways. Generation of fluxome data arrays by use of the METAFoR approach is based on two-dimensional13C-1H correlation nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy with fractionally labeled biomass and, in contrast to metabolic flux analysis, does not require measurements of extracellular substrate and metabolite concentrations. METAFoR analyses of E. coli strains that moderately overexpress phosphofructokinase, pyruvate kinase, pyruvate decarboxylase, or alcohol dehydrogenase revealed that only a few flux ratios change in concert with the overexpression of these enzymes. Disruption of both pyruvate kinase isoenzymes resulted in altered flux ratios for reactions connecting the phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) and pyruvate pools but did not significantly alter central metabolism. These data indicate remarkable robustness and rigidity in central carbon metabolism in the presence of genetic variation. More significant physiological changes and flux ratio differences were seen in response to altered environmental conditions. For example, in ammonia-limited chemostat cultures, compared to glucose-limited chemostat cultures, a reduced fraction of PEP molecules was derived through at least one transketolase reaction, and there was a higher relative contribution of anaplerotic PEP carboxylation than of the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle for oxaloacetate synthesis. These two parameters also showed significant variation between aerobic and anaerobic batch cultures. Finally, two reactions catalyzed by PEP carboxykinase and malic enzyme were identified by METAFoR analysis; these had previously been considered absent in E. colicells grown in glucose-containing media. Backward flux from the TCA cycle to glycolysis, as indicated by significant activity of PEP carboxykinase, was found only in glucose-limited chemostat culture, demonstrating that control of this futile cycle activity is relaxed under severe glucose limitation.

Resumen
Abstracttitle SUMMARY /title It is a commonly held belief that the classical world not only failed to develop mechanism but that it did not even possess a lexical and conceptual equivalent to the modern metaphor of the machina mundi. On the other hand the ancient world's familiarity with a wide variety of mechanisms is well known and this can be seen in Platonic and Aristotelian lexis. This present essay proposes to reformulate the judgement regarding the absence of a general notion of the machine in the classical world and its correspondent metaphorical use in the light of the specific forms of metaphorical exchange which the philosophical and scientific thought of the ancients placed between naturalia and artificialia. In this perspective the absence of the modern metaphor appears to be compensated for in a way by the contiguous of natural demiurgy (natura opifex); a diffuse presence which utilizes the subjective aspect of projecting demiurgy as an intertechnical metaphor. In the pseudo-Aristotelian De mundo the typically modern connection between artificialist and legal metaphor comes to the surface. Besides, the world machine of the modern age was to lose its traditional semantical ties with the demiurgical machinatio only in the late eighteenth century. A more objective meaning of machina made headway in Latin culture and the term was proposed as a common name for mechanical apparatus. The new theological interest in patristics then gave the demiurgical metaphor a tendency towards the radical denaturalization of worldliness, which was particularly evident in Lattanzio.

Ngayogyakarta Negari Exhibition 2012 is part of the Festival of Arts 2012 Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Negari held in commemoration of the 2.5-century founding of Ngayogyakarta and 100 years of the birth of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX, followed by 124 artists Yogyakarta, both painting, photography, sculpture, audio visual, and installation as well which displayed the works of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX and Yogyakarta themed. Jogja International work sculpture by sculpture artist, Dunadi, is one of the few works of sculpture on display in this activity, similar to superhero Spider-Man but wearing blangkon and sarong. In addition to its large size and white color, which makes it interesting sculpture to be observed, studied and discussed is this artwork has conveyed symbolic, metaphoric, and typical parodik messages of Yogyakarta people. This discussion was done through art criticism and aesthetic theory in which the implementation of theories is very broad in the domain art and design. Although the artwork discussed did not pertain directly to the the domain of Visual Communication Design, sensitivity to social issues, creative approach, and beautiful execution Dunadi artist was expected to add experience and insight into the art of the artists and designers in Indonesia.

To improve students' critical thinking skills in solving High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) questions, the ability to think metaphorically in learning is required. Thus, this study aimed to describe the metaphorical thinking process of students in solving HOTS mathematical problems by PISA approach. In this study, the research method was descriptive with a qualitative approach. The sampling technique was purposive sampling technique, which was a sampling technique suitable for this study. The results showed that based on the works of the three subjects, they had distinct characteristics in solving the problems. S1 who was classified in high category had a metaphorical form by looking at the room from the top side and based on the indicators, S1 had met the metaphorical thinking indicators. S2 who was classified in low category still did not have metaphorical form as compared to the indicators of identifying problems. However, S2 also had gone through metaphorical thinking process when compared to the indicators of connecting and deciding the main concept, as well as was able to illustrate ideas. Meanwhile, S3 who was classified in the middle category had a metaphorical form by only looking at the room side. S3 also had met several indicators of metaphorical thinking.

Resumen
The metaphor of the sun, in which Plato (Republic 509b) compares the idea of the Good to the sun that dwells above the earth yet affects the phenomena occurring on it, was an inspiration for both heretical and orthodox theology in the first Christian centuries. The Gnostics, Clement of Alexandria and Origen all believed that God, like the Platonic idea of the Good, is radically transcendent in relation to the world, but at the same time is the cause of everything that exists in it. Unlike Plato, who believed that the idea of the Good is knowable and can be the subject of science, the Christian theologians of the first centuries believed that God was like a blinding light. This means that God, according to them, though intelligible, is unknowable in His essence. Therefore, God cannot be the subject of science. Another modification of the Platonic metaphor was the introduction of the element of sunlight, to which the philosopher from Athens did not refer. For the Gnostics, the rays of the sun were “eons” – spiritual beings that existed in the space between the first principle of all things and the material world. For Clement and Origen, the light that comes from the sun was the Son – the power and wisdom of God. In contrast to the Gnostics, who believed in the progressive degradation of the spiritual world through successive emanations, the Alexandrian Fathers believed that the Son possessed all the knowledge of God and therefore revealed to man the true God. Yet the revelation of God by the Son, and even the grace that assists human beings in the process of learning about God, do not give man complete knowledge of the essence of God. Thus the Gnostics, Clement and Origen, despite some doctrinal differences, all accepted the concept of the radical transcendence of God on the ontological and epistemological levels.

Resumen
Methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) is aimed to reduce the harmful effects of injecting drug use. Since the first Puskesmas Poncol opened this program in 2010, there were 50 users of MMT. Currently users of MMT were 11 people, 2 people have died, no patient has recovered, and 36 others dropped out. Those did not recover, but dropped out with reasons and information that were not known by the officer. MMT is a strategic key of HIV/ AIDS prevention for injecting drug users. However, in the implementation Puskesmas Poncol was lost most of active MMT users. The research aimed to know the implementation of MMT which includes input, process, and output on heroin addict in Puskesmas Poncol. This research was qualitative research supported by quantitative data. Data collection used in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The result of the research showed that the service of MMT in Puskesmas Poncol was still many weaknesses, from input aspect (untrained human resources), process (methadone planning, organizing, and dose arrangement have not been well implemented), and output (services have not been evaluated).

This study researches fictional representations of dead bodies in two television series in which representations of dead bodies are prominent features. The study introduces a brief history of the  human body as a societal metaphor. The narrower theme of the study, the dead body as a cultural surface and carrier of meaning and ritual potential, is discussed through specific popular cultural television productions. The two television series discussed in this study, CSI: Miami and Six Feet Under, are researched both through film analyses and focus group discussions. The film analyses have aimed to show to what use dead bodies are put in the narratives of the programs. The focus group discussions have sought to shed light on the audiences understanding of the meaning of the dead body, and also how this feature of the programs influence the audience and their experience of the programs. The study shows that both series introduce and underline dead bodies as floating in-between subject and object status. A dead person is often introduced as a subject and then stripped of his or her cultural identity and reintroduced as an object or as having an uncertain cultural status which lies somewhere between object and subject. This borderline status of the body serves as a threat in the series, and the subject status of the body is reinstated in every case possible. Order is a central concept for the study and both series strive to reassert and maintain order, either in relationships or on a societal level. The reinstatement of order is reflected on the physical body as a metaphor and narrative device in both series. The reestablishment of the subject status of a dead body is part of this strive for order. The audience research concludes that all focus group members agree that the representations of dead bodies in the programs are important for their experience of the programs. Some find them unpleasant while others think they are interesting. The audience also listed several other themes of the programs which they found important. The representations of dead bodies strike the audience members both as “real” and material, and as metaphors.

Resumen
The purpose of this essay is to examine how God-talk can be used to say something reality depicting and potentially true, and at the same time contribute to a feminist aim where women and men are equally qualified in their talk about God. A pure shift from male to female metaphors and properties applied to God is rejected. Religious language that is used from a radical semantic realistic or radical semantic anti-realistic point of view is also rejected since those positions are not in line with the feminist aims. Metaphors are of value when examining how to speak about God. It is examined if, and in that case how, metaphors can express truths and say something reality depicting. It is argued that a theory of metaphors based on semantic modest anti-realism contributes with something more distinct than a theory of metaphors based on realism does. This distinction highlights the different uses in language between an analogical way and a modest anti-realistic use of metaphors. The three classical “ways” in religious language – univocal, analogical, and equivocal language – are possible to use from a feminist perspective of religious language. It is argued, however, that religious language that is supposed to be in line both with a feminist agenda and be able to contribute to our understanding of God, ourselves, and express truths must be based on a semantic modest realism or semantic modest anti-realism. Analogical language is the one and only religious “way” that is compatible with both semantic modest realism and semantic modest anti-realism. For that reason, it is argued, the analogical language has an advantage over univocal and equivocal language. Finally, four criteria are set up that a good feministic metaphor must achieve, and some remarks about the research of feminism and religious language still to examine is made.

This essay argues that the specificity Lepore & Stone demand of accounts of metaphors and other cases can be made compatible with the Gricean framework. It is argued that the Cooperative Principle and principles of rationality must be presupposed in order to embark on the coordinated activities of language use described by Lepore & Stone and that specific interpretive strategies enter into the picture when the hearer is trying to reconstruct the point of the speaker’s saying what she did. Lepore & Stone are correct that there need not be a proposition meant by a metaphor. Instead, the point of uttering a metaphor of the form x is y is to implicate a perspective of x as y. Many of Lepore & Stone’s objections can be handled by this revised proposal. This essay also explores how Lepore & Stone’s framework might illuminate the case of idiomatic phrases.

The Rabbinic reception of prophets covers thousands of individual statements made by named or unnamed rabbis, recorded within a vast literature (Mishnah, Midrash, Talmud) that spans over 750 years (225–1000 C.E.). It deals with questions and issues such as the following: who is a prophet, what did prophets see, prophetic use of metaphor, the prophet as messenger, prophecy among the Gentiles, the chronology of the prophets, rebuke and consolation, criticism of the prophets, the place of repentance in prophecy, and the end of prophecy. Besides a survey of general statements, rabbinic remarks about nine out of fifteen individual prophets from Isaiah through Malachi are also cited.

Resumen
When early modern plays were staged with black curtains, ‘tragedy’ began the moment the audience entered a playhouse. ‘Tragedy’, then, did not always need to be part of a play’s content: it could be a look, an atmosphere, a theatrical mood. This chapter explores ‘tragedy’ as a kind of performance as well as a kind of drama. Considering ‘tragic’ staging, ‘tragic’ ways of walking (‘strutting’, ‘jetting’, and ‘stalking’), ‘tragic’ ways of speaking (‘ranting’ and ‘canting’ in a tragic ‘tone’ or ‘key’), and the presentation of tragic passions, the chapter argues that Shakespeare’s consciousness of staging dictates his choice of metaphor and symbol. Enacted tragedy, it suggests, helped form Shakespeare’s tragic sensibility.

Resumen
ReAction! gives a scientist's and artist's response to the dark and bright sides of chemistry found in 140 films, most of them contemporary Hollywood feature films but also a few documentaries, shorts, silents, and international films. Even though there are some examples of screen chemistry between the actors and of behind-the-scenes special effects, this book is really about the chemistry when it is part of the narrative. It is about the dualities of Dr. Jekyll vs. inventor chemists, the invisible man vs. forensic chemists, chemical weapons vs. classroom chemistry, chemical companies that knowingly pollute the environment vs. altruistic research chemists trying to make the world a better place to live, and, finally, about people who choose to experiment with mind-altering drugs vs. the drug discovery process. Little did Jekyll know when he brought the Hyde formula to his lips that his personality split would provide the central metaphor that would come to describe chemistry in the movies. This book explores the two movie faces of this supposedly neutral science. Watching films with chemical eyes, Dr. Jekyll is recast as a chemist engaged in psychopharmaceutical research but who becomes addicted to his own formula. He is balanced by the often wacky inventor chemists who make their discoveries by trial-and-error.

Resumen
What is property, and why does our species happen to have it? The Property Species explores how Homo sapiens acquires, perceives, and knows the custom of property, and why it might be relevant for understanding how property works in the twenty-first century. Arguing from some hard-to-dispute facts that neither the natural sciences nor the humanities—nor the social sciences squarely in the middle—are synthesizing a full account of property, this book offers a cross-disciplinary compromise that is sure to be controversial: All human beings and only human beings have property in things, and at its core, property rests on custom, not rights. Such an alternative to conventional thinking contends that the origins of property lie not in food, mates, territory, or land, but in the very human act of creating, with symbolic thought, something new that did not previously exist. Integrating cognitive linguistics with the philosophy of property and a fresh look at property disputes in the common law, this book makes the case that symbolic-thinking humans locate the meaning of property within a thing. The provocative implications are that property—not property rights—is an inherent fundamental principle of economics, and that legal realists and the bundle-of-sticks metaphor are wrong about the facts regarding property. Written by an economist who marvels at the natural history of humankind, the book is essential reading for experts and any reader who has wondered why people claim things as “Mine!,” and what that means for our humanity.

Resumen
Chapter 14 focuses on the meaning and loci of religious encounters in the Bible and in the Jewish tradition, and analyzes the concept of “iron crucible,” the metaphor Benamozegh used for the complexity of religious assimilation. This metaphor, which refers to the Israelites’ sojourn in Egypt, designates a place where identities intermingled and where the Jewish religion was refined through its contact with paganism—but also where, paradoxically, this blending did not preclude a sense of hierarchy in this assimilation process. This concept is a crucial aspect of Benamozegh’s system, whereby the greater the proximity, the greater the tension across religious traditions.

Resumen
Chapter 1 provides the first literary treatment of the transatlantic bestseller, Ralph Erskine’s Gospel Sonnets. The chapter argues that the poem makes visible how poetry and homiletics enabled each other and, as they did so, fused together the revivalist minister and the poet, the itinerant and the poem, and soteriology and verse form. Erskine developed an espousal poetics (a poetics based on the metaphor of Christ wed to the believer) that saturated the rhymed couplet with Calvinist thought and helped produce a lived affective theology. While scholars have conceived of the Augustan Age in terms of Alexander Pope’s heroic couplet primarily as an Enlightenement form, this chapter argues that early Evangelicalism contributed a different meaning to poetic form—what Roberts calls the “Calvinist couplet.”

Cyberspace opened a Pandora's Box: it enabled a direct strike on national infrastructure while circumventing traditional defence systems. Analysing the national responses to Cybersecurity challenges reveals the power of “Cyber War” metaphor and the resulting militarization of cyberspace. But these are unsuitable against cyber disruption of civilian national infrastructure. Further, the persistent trend towards militarization of cybersecurity has negative outcomes. How then should democratic societies provide Cybersecurity? One way of addressing the challenge is presented in the second part of the chapter. Israeli Cyber Defence stresses three lessons. 1. Despite the global risks, a national response is feasible. 2. Israel did not to task the IDF with cyber defence in civilian realm. 3. Technical prowess is not enough for national Cybersecurity, without political measures to settle conflicts and overcome barriers.

Resumen
This chapter discusses the emergence of the “flatten the curve” metaphor in the context of COVID-19 science communication strategies and its role in public messaging efforts that sought to inform world populations and mitigate the effects of the pandemic. Faced with the unexpected arrival and spread of the new coronavirus, governments worldwide have responded with mitigation policies to contain the dissemination of the disease. Prevention behaviours, such as washing hands frequently and maintaining social distancing, were thoroughly communicated to the public. However, despite the quality of the communication campaigns implemented, it is always hard to change people’s perceptions, attitudes, and behaviours, even more so in the short term, as is required in a global health crisis. In pandemics, the literature on risk and crisis communication suggests that messages sent by authorities should enable the understanding of complex information, avoid misinformation, and promote the adoption of adequate behaviours. This assertion presumes that, ideally, communication campaigns follow a set of strategic decisions on target audiences, communication objectives, key messages, adequate channels and message format. Although the emergence of the “flatten of the curve” metaphor did not follow a classical strategic approach, it seems to have incorporated a set of valuable communicational principles that explain why it has become the defining message of about COVID-19. This well-known chart grew into a science strategic communication device, conveying complex scientific information in an engaging but also clear way to the general public. It is, therefore, a good example to advogate for a strategic science communication approach.

Resumen
This chapter analyzes how the images of Demades replicated the involvement of the pepaideumenoi in politics: an uneducated nouveau riche of obscure origins and an accidental politician, he proffered an example of the absolute nature of corruption. This image was constructed with the help of the metaphor of Demades consisting of “tongue and guts”—an expression that was retrospectively applied to different political figures—which indicated the selfish nature of his politics; and with stories of his bribe taking and proposing numerous honorific decrees for personal profit. These and other displays of Demades’s immorality, such as cheating and breaking oaths, turn out to have been popularly recycled rhetorical topoi. It was a short step from breaking promises to making illegal proposals. Later references to such proposals by Demades supplied material for progymnasmata exercises in the introduction of laws; these exercises focused on moving legal initiatives that did not comply with existing legislation.
