{2-[1-(3-Methoxycarbonylmethyl-1H-indol-2-yl)-1-methyl-ethyl]-1H-indol-3-yl}-acetic acid methyl ester (MIAM) is a novel indole compound, which possessed high efficacy against many cancers xenografted in mice without obvious toxicity. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of MIAM on human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) Bel-7402 cells and its resistant variants Bel-7402/5FU. MIAM inhibited the growth of HCC more potent in Bel-7402/5FU cells than its parent cells. Abstract Glioblastoma (GBM) remains the most common adult brain tumor, with poor survival expectations, and no new therapeutic modalities approved in the last decade. Our laboratories have recently demonstrated that the integration of a transcriptional disease signature obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas’ GBM dataset with transcriptional cell drug-response signatures in the LINCS L1000 dataset yields possible combinatorial therapeutics. Considering the extreme intra-tumor heterogeneity associated with the disease, we hypothesize that the utilization of single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq)

Abstract Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is a potentially devastating complication of heparin therapy. The condition is due to formation of antibodies to the heparin-platelet factor 4 (HPF4) complex that activate platelets and/or endothelial cells by binding to FcγIIa (CD32) receptors. It is not clear why only a sub-population of patients that form HPF4 antibodies also develops clinical HIT, and why only a fraction of those develop thrombosis. While effective, there are risks associated with the use of a VAD. One of the most serious risks is pump thrombosis characterized by an organized fibrin deposition in the pump, which requires clinical intervention and/or surgical replacement of the device. Due to the growing number of cardiac patients with an implanted VAD, it is important to understand the susceptibility to hemostatic dysregulation among these patients to prevent complications. In cur
