Abstract:
This community service program aims to implement a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) to provide electrical energy in tourist areas called rice field tourism, in order to reduce the cost of purchasing electrical energy for managers. Besides, it is also a means of education for visitors to introduce green energy in the future. The design of PLTS is adjusted to the requirements of the load that will be served at the tourist attraction. Before carrying out development, the Team first conducted outreach to local residents to introduce technology in rural areas. After the rotating program for managing tourism objects, in this case BUMDes Johar Mandiri, was given training in the operation, maintenance / maintenance of the solar power generation system, so that after the program it was able to solve the troubleshooting that occurred both in the generation system, control and distribution system. The resulting capacity of the Solar Power Plant in this Sawah Tour is 3500 WP which is used to meet all lighting needs. With this program, managers can reduce costs by Rp. 3,000,000 / month for electricity needs.

Abstract:
North East India is blessed with abundant tourism resources, which are unique in their own way. The flora and fauna of this region is regarded as one of the seven most bio-diverse regions of the world. Among the States in this region, Sikkim is quite a popular destination with both the domestic and international tourists. It is perhaps the only state, where one can travel 3500 meters above the sea-level in a space of 160 km. Sikkim is thus a trekker‟s paradise, offering a unique opportunity to trek to Mt. Kangchen-Dzonga. The gateway to this mountain is a small village called Yuksam in South Sikkim. Trends reveal that Yuksam is in the developmental stage of increasing growth of tourist influx, which would also have implications on the infrastructure, environment, natural resources, culture and eco-tourism of this village. So this paper aims to study how tourism in Sikkim, Yuksam in particular, can be sustained.

Abstract:
Tanjungjaya Village is one of the villages located around the Tanjung Lesung Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Banten Province. The potential possessed by Tanjungjaya Village is tourism and the creative economy. The purpose of this study is to develop a tourism village model based on Regional Innovation Capacity which is expected to contribute to tourism village development and management policies. Regional Innovation Capacity (KID) was developed from the theory of National Innovation Capacity (KIN). KID approach by adjusting several variables to regional factors, developing industrial clusters, developing production function ideas, and regional strategic policies, especially related to tourism and the creative economy. The survey was conducted on respondents consisting of policymakers, tourist attractions managers, management partners, visitors, and creative economy actors. Data processing is done by exponential regression. The innovation-based tourism village model was developed with KID as the Y variable and the X variable consisting of 33 variables: 15 Innovation General Infrastructure variables, 13 Industrial Cluster variables, and 5 variables of Relationship between Innovation Public Infrastructure and Industrial Clusters. The 33 variables of X together affect KID and can predict KID by 72.4% (R Square adjusted value). The results of partial exponential regression processing with a significance of 5% indicate that: (i) KID will increase by e^.358 = 1.43 on the X1.7 variable (proportion of the number of regional sons who work in their region compared to those from outside the region) due to the percentage change in X1.7 of 35.8%; (ii) KID will increase by e^.368 = 1.44 in the X2.13 variable (number of industries that use the same infrastructure and resources in the creative and tourism industry clusters) due to the percentage change in X2.13 of 36.8%.

Abstract:
The Maloti-Drakensberg (MD) is the largest and highest-elevation mountain system in southern Africa. Covering 40,000 km2 and reaching 3500 m, the MD provides a range of ecosystem services (ES) to the entire southern African region—benefitting diverse users and extending well beyond the mountains. Rapid socioecological change threatens the provision of ES and presents multidimensional challenges to sustainable development. However, the continued land degradation and persisting socioeconomic problems indicate that development policy has not been effective in tackling these issues. In this paper, a multidisciplinary literature review forms the basis of a discussion which takes an ES framing to scrutinise the multidimensional social, political, economic and cultural issues in the study area. Three critical management systems are presented, and their associated ES are discussed, namely, water transfer, rangelands and conservation and tourism. In particular, the diversity of ES uses and values in the MD is considered. The results reveal the main drivers of continued unsustainable development and highlight important information gaps.

Abstract:
One of the particularities of companies with a social purpose is that, through their business model of B companies, they have incorporated into their processes the necessary mechanisms to obtain, simultaneously, the profits to ensure the existence of the organization in the market. At the same time, social value is generated, which is necessary to address the problems of the social crisis caused by COVID-19 and the environmental problems affecting the community. The current global health and economic crisis has opened up the possibility of adopting business model B and focusing more on the individual. Based on the grounded theory method, we have examined 3500 B Corporations in Latin America, of which 57 were examined in 10 countries listed in the Directory of B Corporations for Latin America. The main conclusions are that B Corporations dedicated to tourism through responsible entrepreneurship develop a more inclusive, sustainable and environmentally friendly economy for the benefit of society, go beyond the notion of CSR and move away from traditional business, as B Corporations combine social development and economic growth.

Abstract:
Tourism economics is an emerging subject of economic science still fighting for its academic recognition internationally. This is not surprising considering that tourism has only assumed itself as an organized economic activity during the second half of the 20th century. We aim to make a further contribution to the development and systematization of the theoretical foundations of Tourism Economics. We begin by introducing a new conceptualization for the tourism good, which will then be used across the rest of our work. A syntesis of the economic history of tourism is what follows. After coming across the working of the tourism market we then assume that considering the very specific characteristics of tourism goods, tourism analysis often requires a non-standardized treatment from economic science, frequently using less usual instruments - as is the case for the economic geography approach used herewith. Given the relevance of the distance factor in completing the act of tourism consumptiom, we argue that gravitational models can be used to study the reasons behind tourism flows in general. We continue by analyzing the presence of public good elements within the tourism good and the relationship between tourism and environment. Finally, we take some conclusions around policy implications both in methodological and practical terms on what concerns government responsabilities on this field. Moreover this work assumes itself as a further contribution to the development and systematization of the fundamentals of the emerging subject of Tourism Economics, helping in this way to build to its own a comprehensive, specific and structural theoretical background still absent for tourism within the context of economic science.

Ashcroft, Kathryn Alexa. "The case for rentierism as a cause for underdevelopment in Malaysia : tourism planning from Mahathir to the present day." Thesis, Durham University, 2011. http://etheses.dur.ac.uk/3580/.

Full text
Abstract:
Classifying Malaysia as a rentier state is unusual but the label allows for new insight into the development state debate. Rentier states are considered to be developing states on the basis that their governments purchase the growth that improves wealth and quality of life at a cost to enterprise and citizens become accustomed to reward being unrelated to effort. Purchased growth (where governments create employment by investing in projects) creates challenges for true development (where an economy evolves and develops without continual governmental involvement) and recognising the breadth of this phenomenon is significant. By looking at tourism planning in Malaysia, a case for rentierism being the cause of underdevelopment in Malaysia was made. Making particular reference to the Meetings, Incentives, Exhibitions and Conferences (MICE) aspect of the tourism market, the thesis demonstrates that Malaysia is not only a rentier state economy but that its tourism industry demonstrates purchased growth that is compatible with rentierism. The main argument of the thesis is that the most significant component of what signifies a rentier state is a rentier state mentality. Four case studies of MICE tourism destinations are used to demonstrate attitudes that have emerged from a government policy of purchased growth. When the case for underdevelopment as emerging from rentierism is made, the rentier state mentality in Malaysia is used as evidence for the label and its application. Tourism is a commonly proposed solution to the problem of underdevelopment but what this thesis demonstrates is that the way diversification of a rent-based economy is approached is more significant that what that economy diversifies into. Underdevelopment in Malaysia results from the tourism planning being based upon purchased growth not because tourism is an inappropriate industry for economic development in Malaysia.

Abstract:
Since the first national park Yellowstone was established, people from across the world have come to visit the natural wonders that our national parks have to offer. While much empirical research has been conducted concerning the marketing and branding strategies of non-profit organizations, government agencies, and tourism destinations; not much has been conducted on national parks. This research seeks to understand how our national parks have marketed and branded themselves over time and determine how marketing and branding will play a role in the development and conservation of the parks. This research was conducted utilizing in- depth methods such as an autoethnographic reflection and content analysis. Throughout the content analysis, themes arose amongst the strategies of the national parks over time such as “Romanticism,” “Exploration,” “Nature Preservation,” and many more discussed throughout this research. Each of these unique themes represents what was culturally important.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT - Strongylidosis on farms of bullfighting horses - Portugal has a great tradition in equine production, particulary of bullfighting horses. These horses are true athlete, and should be given special attention to their health. Gastrointestinal parasites, especially strongyle, are a constant threat and affect their health, well-being and performance. After the declining of large strongyle infection over the last decades, as a result of widespread and intensive use of anthelmintics, the cyathostome became the most common and important gastrointestinal parasites of horses. The importance of cyathostome is due to its high prevalence worldwide and the development of resistance to most anthelmintics. Faced with this growing problem, the owners of horses and veterinarians must be increasingly attentive to the biology and epidemiology of strongyle infection in order to develop a correct and effective animal health program. For a better understanding of the epidemiology of strongyle in Portugal, was developed a study involving 67 bullfighting horses, spread over 8 farms from Ribatejo and Oeste. For a period of 11 months (July 2010 to May 2011) were collected fecal samples from each horse in each season and one or two days before and two or three after the bullfighting show, and analyzed using the coprological techniques quantitative (MacMaster) and qualitative (Willis flotation and natural sedimentation). Fecal cultures were also performed to identify L3. Bullfighting horses examined had an average EPG of 396 and an average annual prevalence of 66%. 91% of all animals and 100% of farms were found to be infected at least once during the study period. The genus Cyathostomum sensu lato was the most abundant (97.3%) and prevalent (53.9%). No infective larvae of the genus Strongylus were identified. The summer and autumn were the times when there were maximum values of average EPG (eggs per gram). Two risk factors for infection with Strongylus, were studied. Age is negatively correlated with number of EPG, with a tendency for the moderate and severe infections in younger animals. Stress inherent in the bullfighting appears to be responsible for the increase in EPG. The results of this work showed that strongyle parasitism, particularly by cyathostome in bullfighting horse, is extremely important and prevalent, and could help the development of an appropriate parasite control program on these horses.

Almadani, Nadin. "The factors influencing travel behavioural intention of international tourists to Saudi Arabia." Thesis, 2021. https://vuir.vu.edu.au/42949/.

Full text
Abstract:
For various social, political and economic reasons, Saudi Arabia originally devoted little attention to conventional international tourism. However, the tourism industry has recently experienced remarkable growth after the development of specific, clear policies and an institutional structure. Saudi Arabia is now seeking to increase its competitiveness and capacity to attract foreign tourists. The present research intends to identify the critical factors affecting the experience of tourists, with a focus on Saudi Arabia’s recent initiatives to expand its tourism industry. Tourist behaviour is crucial in tourism marketing since it helps businesses to understand the demands of potential tourists. Consequently, marketers can employ appropriate marketing strategies to boost tourist demands in the highly competitive tourism industry. There is a paucity of research which has drawn attention to the link between travel motivation, perceived value of online reviews of a destination, experience quality and behavioural intention. This research aims to cover this gap by exploring the impact of perceived value of online reviews of a destination, travel motivation, and experience quality on behavioural intention of international tourists to Saudi Arabia. This research provides a framework for examining tourists’ behavioural intention and the results could assist in designing marketing strategies that are flexible and easily applicable to destination branding. After reviewing the current literature and theories as a basis for designing a framework, building on the Tourism Consumption Systems and Reasoned Action Theories, this study develops a holistic model to investigate the effect of travel motivation, perceived value of online reviews, and experience quality on behavioural intention. The model is empirically tested in response to Saudi Arabia’s recent initiatives to expand its tourist industry. This study adopted a mixed-methods approach that includes quantitative and qualitative methods. The complementarity approach was used for this research that incorporates a secondary method in which the results obtained using the first method are validated, interpreted or supported. The research comprises two data collection phases. The survey questionnaire was administered in the first phase in two cities, Riyadh and Jeddah, where international tourists visiting Saudi Arabia were recruited as a sample. This phase aimed to test the conceptual model. The two-stage Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) approach has been implemented. The first phase involved evaluating the measurement elements for each construct by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Subsequently, the structural model was then examined to validate the study's hypotheses. The qualitative phase involved retrieving online reviews from TripAdvisor. An analysis of the data was conducted using a netnographic research method with the aim of validating the quantitative results. The research has studied two key components of online reviews. The first is the number of helpful votes received by reviews to examine how tourists perceive the value of reviews, while review content has been analysed to determine tourist motivation and quality of their experience. The quantitative study provided evidence that travel motivation and quality of the experience directly influence behavioural intention. It also demonstrated that the perceived value of online reviews exerts an indirect impact on behavioural intention via push motivation and experience quality. As well, the study indicated that Saudi Arabia’s culture and scenery are the main factors that attract tourists to visit the country. Furthermore, the study found tourists were driven by the desire to interact with each other, learn new knowledge or escape and relax and that joyful travel included experiencing places hedonically or simply as something new. This research provides firstly empirical evidence that the perceived value of online reviews of a destination, travel motivation, and experience quality all affect the development of tourists’ behavioural intention. Therefore, future research, particularly in the field of tourism, should incorporate the perceived importance of online reviews of destination factors in determining behavioural intention, along with other variables. Secondly, the study’s use of netnography for validating the results of the questionnaire is an important theoretical contribution. Furthermore, this study provides insights on the characteristics of the Saudi Arabia tourism industry which can help develop practical tourism programs. It also makes suggestions and recommendations for practitioners and policy makers to enable them to continue improving Saudi Arabia's tourism sector.

Abonomi, Abdullah. "Collaborative Planning for the Environmental Sustainability of the Hajj." Thesis, 2022. https://vuir.vu.edu.au/44420/.

Full text
Abstract:
Every year, millions of Muslim worshippers visit Mecca in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, which is the fifth and last pillar of Islam. Mecca generally hosts more than 2,300,000 people from approximately 183 different countries and cultures every year. Tourism, especially a religious tourist attraction such as the Hajj, is expected to boost the economy and create new jobs for Saudi youth in the services sector. Despite the many benefits of pilgrimage, the Hajj itself has adverse environmental impacts. The activities of Hajj generate considerable solid and liquid waste, use large quantities of scarce freshwater and produce high levels of greenhouse gases. The government of Saudi Arabia has established many strategies and policies, such as a the ‘prepared meal project’, to reduce the impacts of the Hajj activities on environmental sustainability. However, these environmental strategies have not achieved their goals. For example, several hospitality agencies refused to collaborate on the prepared meal project for pilgrims established by the government to reduce waste. The wider literature demonstrates that the success of sustainability plans and projects in the tourism context requires collaboration between stakeholders from all sectors. This collaboration does not occur in the Hajj. The overarching aim of this research is to investigate how the environmental sustainability of the Hajj can be improved. The particular focus, however, is on how stakeholder collaboration in planning can be improved to achieve sustainability goals. This study applies Gray’s (1989) collaborative planning model to investigate the nature of the collaboration process between Hajj stakeholders and identify the drivers that will support collaboration. This model establishes a three-phase planning process necessary to successfully achieve stakeholder collaboration and the strategic goals. To achieve the aim, this research employed a qualitative methodology to investigate the nature of collaboration between Hajj stakeholders and the drivers that induce their collaboration while planning for environmental sustainability of the Hajj. Both primary data and secondary data were used. A qualitative approach was adopted and specific methods used included unstructured and semi-structured interviews. Interviewees were selected to be representatives of public and private sector stakeholders, and interviews were conducted in a face-to-face setting at a time and location convenient to them. The qualitative analysis program ATLAS was used to analyse the data and define the themes. Research findings identified many barriers to collaboration between Hajj stakeholders at each stage of Gray’s (1989) collaboration model. Centralised governance, poor leadership and a lack of adequate resources in the planning process created obstacles to the achievement of environmental sustainability in the destination. The results show that the level of collaboration between stakeholders in the Hajj is fragile and requires significant improvement. Thus, from an analysis of findings, ways to improve the collaborative network between Hajj stakeholders when planning for protecting the environmental sustainability of the destination are explored. This study contributes to theory by applying Gray’s (1989) model to a new and unique context, thereby revealing barriers and drivers to effective planning and the implementation of environmental policy and strategy. The study reveals opportunities for improvement and future research. The practical contribution of the study is that it can inform policymakers of the importance of changing their traditional approach in the planning process, especially because the government of Saudi Arabia has made a commitment to environmental sustainability, as detailed in the national document Vision 2030. In addition, the results may guide Hajj stakeholders from all sectors to understand the barriers and drivers that affect the development of collaboration. Thus, they may review and re-establish their collaborative network for the Hajj planning process.

Autorka motywuje wybór tematu chęcią zbadania turystyki biznesowej w Polsce wraz z jej kluczowymi podmiotami, do których, jej zdaniem, należy zaliczyć convention bureaux.

Abstract:
This chapter studies the evolution of Alpine climbing in the mid-1800s and examines the ways in which Humboldtian writing and science, the Romantic sublime, and bodily sensations and disruptions shaped perceptions and representations of European forays to Alpine summits. It presents a brief overview of the history of Alpine development from antiquity to the present, with special consideration of British tourism in the Alps. The chapter recounts how mountaineering emerged as a sport of radical individualism that solidified and simultaneously challenged new models of masculinity and broadly affected patterns of tourism, leisure, and consumption by the end of the nineteenth century. It also mentions German climbers on the remote Similaun glacier who came across Ötzi the Iceman, a corpse that was remarkably well preserved in the ice in 1991. It points out how scientists concluded that Ötzi's body was dated to circa 3500 BC, which gives evidence that even in prehistoric times Neolithic humans regularly frequented the mountains.

Abstract:
The chapter discusses the adverse impinging of COVID-19 on Indian hotel business in general and on Hyatt Regency in particular. Large hospitality firms have major difficulties obtaining finances from financial institutions as the banks continued to have a poor lookout for the hospitality sector. In early phases of the pandemic, the measures which industry adopted in pandemics were related to prevention, pricing strategies, and maintenance efforts. The aid provided by government and human resources approaches also needs to be looked into. The hospitality and tourism industry needs to focus on their pricing schemes, which needs to be lower as compared to previous times. During the outbreak of the pandemic, a few of the hotels appeared to be forcing their workforce to go on non-paid leave and postpone business office and instrumentation upkeep. Seeking government aid or resources, the hotel industry appeared only be used as a last resort. The study confirms the bad shape of the hotels and their slow recovery after incorporating the various techniques of crisis management.

Abstract:
This study focuses on questionnaire research which explores the attitudes and perceptions of Generation Y to nature-based activities. Case studies are given of Hungary and Romania, which are largely rural countries, but which have relatively low levels of health, wellbeing and happiness compared to the EU and OECD average. It is argued that new ways need to be found of developing a healthier, happier society, especially amongst the younger generations, such as increasing time spent in nature. More than 350 questionnaires were collected in a number of countries but the majority were from Hungary and Romania from students aged approximately 21-30. There were asked about their reasons for going to the countryside regularly (or not); their preferred activities and types of landscape, their perceptions of the health benefits of nature; and their intentions to spend more time in nature in the future, either as a resident or a tourist.

Abstract:
An analysis of granite landscapes would not be complete if the modifying human factor were ignored (Godard, 1977). Over the millennia humans have used the resources provided by granite, whether in a solid or weathered state, taken advantage of the spatial configuration of granite landforms, or mimicked natural granite features for various purposes. The combination of rock outcrops, regolith-mantled surfaces, and soil characteristics has acted as a significant constraint on many human activities, especially in the past. Hence many granite areas have very specific histories of human impact. The monumentality of many granite landforms has inspired fear, awe, and spiritual experience, whereas in the modern era the distinctiveness of many granite terrains has become a magnet for tourism. Each of these activities has left its imprint on granite landscapes, to the extent that some of them easily fall into the category of ‘cultural landscapes’, while in others, man-made features have evidently overwhelmed the natural configuration of the land. In this closing chapter of the book a few aspects of human transformation on natural granite landscapes will be briefly addressed. The coverage, and particularly the selection, of examples are by no means exhaustive, and the historical context has not been explored. The intention is rather to review some of the most characteristic relationships between humans and granite landscapes and to show that the characteristics of natural granite landforms dictate very specific adjustments, uses, and strategies of landscape change. Therefore, extensive referencing has also been avoided. The middle and late Neolithic in western Europe (3500–1700 BC) was a period of extraordinary construction activity using local and imported stone. It was not limited to granite lands, but the availability of durable monumental stone was certainly important. Therefore, uplands and rolling plains underlain by granitoid rocks abound in a variety of megalithic structures, including standing stones, stone circles and rows, passage tombs, simple dolmens, burial mounds (cairns), and stone enclosures. Extensive assemblages of Neolithic monuments occur on the Alentejo plain in southern Portugal, in western Spain, in Brittany, France, and on the uplands of south-west England, from Dartmoor through Bodmin Moor, Carnmenellis to Land’s End.
