Abstract:

Abstract In their various books on Igbo culture, Simon Ottenberg, Adiele Afigbo, P-J Ezeh, Herbert Cole and Chike Aniakor make references to ‘Igbo receptivity’, the ‘resurgence of Igbo arts’, and ‘Igbo cultural self-hate’, in an attempt to capture the wandering of Igbo cultural attitudes from one level of experience to another. While ‘receptivity’ and ‘resurgence’ are positive characterisations and paint a picture of resilience, ‘self-hate’ depicts a postcolonial nihilist tendency also at the heart of Igbo culture. If art is one major index for expressing and assessing the culture of a people, the Igbo uli art, arguably spanning three stages of historical-stylistic development, offers a basis on which Igbo culture and heritage can be appreciated and appraised in light of its receptivity, resurgence, as well as self-hate. Relying on the works of the uli women classicists, the Nsukka artists, and the outcomes of the Art Republic workshops, I argue that traditions never die in any finalistic sense, but rather degenerate and then regenerate new ideas, while nourishing and refreshing paradigms which extend the history and experience of the old.

Abstract:

In this paper, an experimental attempt has been made to improve the performance and emission of a non-road diesel engine using adiesel aloe vera emulsified fuel (A10). Two fuel samples such as neat diesel (D100) and diesel aloe vera emulsified fuel referred to as A10 (10% aloe vera, 89% diesel, 1% surfactant) was used to conduct the experiments and the obtained results were compared. The experiments were carried out on a single cylinder non-road Genset diesel engine at low load (BMEP 1.54 bar), mid load (BMEP 3.09 bar) and high load(BMEP 4.63 &6.18 bar) conditions.The experimental results show that the dieselaloe vera emulsified fuel resulted in reduced nitric oxide (NO) with increased brake thermal efficiency (BTE). overall, a 19.24% reduction in NO emission and a 9.82% increase in BTE was observed. Also, it was noticed that the A10 prolonged the ignition delay and improved the air-fuel mixing inside the combustion chamber.

Наведені результати експериментального дослі-дження впливу кута випередження впорскуванняпалива на статичні та динамічні властивості ди-зеля з турбонаддувом. На основі знятих швидкіс-них характеристик робочих параметрів дизеля зарізних установочних кутів випередження впорску-вання палива була дана оцінка ступеня впливу до-сліджуваного регульованого параметра на стати-чні властивості двигуна. З аналізу динамічнихрежимів вільного прискорення дизеля, отриманихпри різних характерах зміни кута випередженнявпорскування палива, зроблені висновки про тіснийвзаємозв’язок між моментом початку подачіпалива та якістю заданого перехідного процесу. The results of experimental studies of the effect of advanceangle of fuel injection on the static and dynamic properties of adiesel engine with a turbocharger have been produced. Thedegree of influence of the controlled parameter on the staticproperties of a diesel engine was assessed on the basis of velocity characteristics of operating parameters of diesel at different advance angles of fuel injection. From the analysis of dynamicmodes of the free acceleration of a diesel engine, produced byvarious characters of changing of the advance angle of fuelinjection, conclusions about the close relationship between theonset of the fuel supply and the quality of a given transitionhave been made.

Abstract:

One of the most popular and most widely cited books in the study of precolonial Africa, particularly of the forest region, is Jacob U. Egharevba's A Short History of Benin. It was first published in the Edo language as Ekhere vb Itan Edo in 1933, and due to its popularity and very high demand, it quickly sold out and was reprinted in 1934. It was then translated by the author and published in English as A Short History of Benin in 1936. This English-language edition has likewise been a bestseller with four editions—the first edition in 1936, the second in 1953, the third in 1960, and the fourth one in 1968, which in turn has had reprints in Ibadan (1991) and Benin City (1994).In 1959 Leoham Adam, Curator of the Ethnographical Collection of Melbourne University in Australia, who claimed to have first read the book in the 1930s, commended Short History for its useful contributions to the study and understanding of African societies. The late R.E. Bradbury, in writing the first foreword to the book's third edition in 1960, claimed that it”…has become something of a classic, known and relied upon not only in Nigeria, but by scholars all over the world, [as]… a valuable, indeed an indispensable, pioneering work.” In a more recent critique, Adiele Afigbo asserted that the book and its thesis has “much support from many respected historians and ethnographers… and figure prominently not only in undergraduate essays but also in Masters and Doctoral dissertations.”

Abstract:

Over het aantal Belgische militairen dat tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog aan het IJzerfront naar de Duitse vijand deserteerde is al veel geschreven. Dit gebeurde dan telkens op basis van secondaire bronnen, zoals de akte van beschuldiging in het strafproces van Adiel Debeuckelaere, de cijfers die Minister van Justitie Émile-Paul Janson op 6 november 1928 in de Kamer van volksvertegenwoordigers meedeelde, een Duits rapport van 1918 en de cijfers die auditeur-generaal John Gillissen over dat onderwerp vermeldde in een artikel over de Belgische militaire gerechtelijke organisatie tussen 1830 en 1981. Hoewel de desertie naar de vijand in de eerste plaats een militair-strafrechtelijk probleem was, vond tot nog toe geen enkele historicus het nodig om hierover de archieven van de militaire gerechtelijke instanties exhaustief te raadplegen. Het gevolg was dat de begrippen gesignaleerde overlopers, strafrechtelijk vervolgde overlopers, vrijgesproken overlopers, gestrafte overlopers en voortvluchtige overlopers in de historische literatuur over de Belgische desertie naar de Duitse vijand door elkaar werden gebruikt met alle gevolgen van dien. In de hiernavolgende studie worden deze begrippen wel nauwkeurig onderscheiden, waardoor het voor het eerst mogelijk werd om te analyseren wat het militair strafrecht toen precies onder desertie naar de vijand verstond, hoeveel Belgische militairen er precies voor dat misdrijf strafrechtelijk vervolgd werden en hoeveel er hiervan naderhand buitenvervolging werden gesteld, werden vrijgesproken, werden gestraft of voortvluchtig bleven. Op basis van deze laatste cijfers wordt dan precies worden nagegaan tot welke legerafdelingen en linieregimenten de militairen behoorden die werden gestraft wegens desertie naar de vijand, van welke gemeente zij afkomstig waren, welke beroepen zij uitoefenden en hoe zwaar zij precies werden gestraft. __________ Desertion to the enemy in the Belgian front line during the First World War. Part 1 Much has already been written about the number of Belgian military who deserted to the German enemy at the front line along the IJzer during the First World War. These descriptions were always based on secondary sources, like the bill of indictment in the criminal process against Adiel Debeuckelaere, the figures stated by Minister of Justice Émile-Paul Janson in the Chamber of Representatives on 6 November 1928, a German report of 1918, as well as the figures about the subject listed by the auditor-general John Gillissen in an article about the Belgian military legal organisation between 1830 and 1981. Although the desertion to the enemy was in the first place a problem of military criminal law, until the present no historian has felt the need to research the subject exhaustively in the archives of the military legal institutions. The result of this was that concepts such as signalled defectors, defectors prosecuted in criminal proceedings, acquitted defectors, punished defectors and defectors on the run are used mixed together in the historical literature about the Belgian desertion to the German enemy with all the consequences that will entail. However, in the following study these concepts are carefully distinguished from each other. This allows us to analyse how military criminal law defined desertion to the enemy exactly, precisely how many Belgian military were prosecuted for that crime, and for how many of them the prosecution was stopped later, how many were cleared, were punished or remained on the run. Based on the latter figures it is established to which exact army departments and line regiments those military belonged who were punished for defection to the enemy, from which municipality they originated, what their professions were and what level of punishment they received.

Abstract:

Adiel Megido, Eko Ariyanto in this paper explain that the temperature control system on water heaters that use electric heaters, generally uses ON-OFF voltage control. Apart from this system being less efficient in using electricity, the limited range of voltage settings provided also lacks the output accuracy value required by the control system. So that for some applications it can cause a response to the temperature control system that oscillates. Another alternative in controlling the heating voltage is by using the PID control method (Proportional - Integral - Derifative), this method provides a wider range of voltage settings, so that it can provide the output accuracy value needed by the control system, thus making it possible to obtain system responses finer (minimum oscillation amplitude). In addition to problems with the temperature control system, the water volume control system in the water heater tank generally still uses probes that are installed at certain levels. The limitations in reading each change in height / volume of water causes the system output to be less linear (discrete). To produce linear readings and outputs in each change in water volume, a voltage divider can be used. In this final project design will use an electric water heater tank as a medium to determine the ability of the PID controller to control water temperature according to the set-point and control the height / volume of water in the tank using a voltage divider. Abstract:

Introducción: La familia experimenta un reto importante cuando uno de sus miembros está hospitalizado, pues los obliga a modificar sus dinámicas en términos de funciones y roles. Esta investigación cualitativa se realizó con familiares que acompañaron a uno de sus integrantes durante una experiencia de hospitalización; se consideró familia a quienes compartieran una historia en común con el paciente. Objetivo: Comprender el significado que le da la familia al papel que desempeña con el paciente en la interacción con las enfermeras durante el tiempo de hospitalización. Materiales y Métodos: Se utilizó el enfoque etnográfico. Se aplicaron 10 entrevistas a personas adultas. Se obtuvo información hasta lograr la saturación. Se tuvo en cuenta los criterios de rigor y los principios éticos. Resultados: La familia considera que tienen el derecho de ser la voz del paciente para interactuar con la enfermera, y la asume como una de sus funciones en su rol cuidador, para lograrlo es indispensable que ésta acuda al llamado, atienda, acompañe y brinde al paciente unos cuidados mínimos requeridos, relacionados primordialmente con la esfera física, de tal forma que en esa interacción demuestre su calidad humana, reconozca las necesidades del paciente y base su comunicación en la verdad y la cercanía. La familia espera una enfermera que los reconozca y los eduque, así mismo que les diga la verdad y se muestre cercana. Conclusiones: La familia se constituye en la voz del paciente como derecho connatural filial y en ese sentido, asume el cuidado del paciente con apoyo de las enfermeras, quienes tienen el deber de generar confianza y buen trato.
