Spies, Philip H. "Process-Based Evaluation of the Potential Affectiveness of Futures Studies as a Profession." World Futures Review 11, no. 4 (2019): 308–19. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/1946756719862117.

Abstract:
This article argues that futures studies practice must have relevance and meaning for society and organizations—that is, it should be affective—and that it should be evaluated as such. Evaluation should be process-based, specifically by observing the way futures studies as a profession is managed and interacts with society. Within this context, “evaluation” is defined as merit determination through process review, using as central norm the raison d’être for futures studies, namely, it must enhance better long-term decision making in organizations and in society. Affectiveness is an emergent quality. Emergence is a property that a whole (such as the subject area of futures studies) displays which is not apparent in its parts. In other words, it is a property that emerges from the interactions between the parts of the whole. With this in mind, futures studies can be visualized as an “application system” comprising of various specialized subsystems such as conceptual development, methodological development, scanning and trend research, scenario development, and idealized planning. The article defends and proposes a process-based approach to the evaluation of affectiveness: one that is based on a heuristic learning and dialogue design in the practice of futures studies. The quest for affectiveness is a journey toward an ideal, perhaps never to be reached but forever a guide toward improving the relevance and meaning of an important profession.

This article describes a problem-based, cooperative learning activity, where students investigate the role of ethylene in flower senescence. The cooperative learning activity is contextualized in an authentic problem experienced in the cut flower industry: how can the shelf life of cut flowers be prolonged? We describe the procedure for conducting the experiment and show the affectiveness of contextualized science that includes indigenous knowledge—an approach that Gibbons calls “mode 2 knowledge production.” In addition we also give suggestions on how this type of problem-based, cooperative teaching-learning activity can be used in a school biology classroom.

Abstract:
Among the procedures for facial rejuvenation, thread lift are currently widespread among professionals and highly sought after by patients. This demand can be justified because they are procedures, without incisions, shorter inactivy time, low operating time, and for the risk of postoperative complications when compared to rhytidoplasty. These are procedures capable of promoting collagen stimulation, elevating ptosis tissues, and adding volume to the application areas contributing to the restructuring of the face. Thread lift have evolved considerably over the years and can be now meet on absorbable devices based on polydioxanone and polylactic acid. In this article is proposed the use of Fiobloc® thread lift for the purpose of assessing their affectiveness in the replacement of ptosis tissues.

Abstract:
SUMMARYThis paper describes a landmark detection and localization using an integrated laser-camera sensor. Laser range finder can be used to detect landmarks that are direction invariant in the laser data such as protruding edges in walls, edges of tables, and chairs. When such features are unavailable, the dependant processes will fail to function. However, in many instances, larger number of landmarks can be detected using computer vision. In the proposed method, camera is used to detect landmarks while the location of the landmark is measured by the laser range finder using laser-camera calibration information. Thus, the proposed method exploits the beneficial aspects of each sensor to overcome the disadvantages of the other sensor. While highlighting the drawbacks and limitations of single sensor based methods, an experimental results and important statistics are provided for the verification of the affectiveness sensor fusion method using Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) as an example application.

Abstract:
A bidimensional (cognitive–emotional) novel survey, the Emotional and Cognitive Scale of the Human–Nature Relationship (ECS-HNR), was designed and validated to measure Ecological Awareness (EAW) and Ecological Affectiveness (EAF) as vital aspects of the human–nature relationship. Data were collected in Chile between July and October 2019 from 474 participants ranging between 6 and 85 years old, using the snowball sampling technique. To examine the properties of the ECS-HNR we analyzed the results in terms of its content validity, reliability, factor structure, convergent validity, and discriminant validity. The ECS-HNR comprises 24 items divided into two subscales with three subscales each (EAF: Empathy, Enjoyment, and Connectedness; EAW: Understanding, Appreciation, and Perception). The results demonstrated that the ECS-HNR is a reliable instrument, as items (the two scales and their subscales) exhibited an acceptable internal consistency. Our findings demonstrate that the ECS-HNR allows the integration of both dimensions of the human–nature relationship and is appropriate to evaluate attitudes and feelings toward nature.

Abstract:
Many English teachers are not confident when they are required to examine their students essay although they have sufficient education and experience in assessing their students’ written works. Therefore, they need to be trained over a short period to rate their students’ writing. They are also required to improve their knowledge or cognitive in order to literate ESL writing assessment to focus their students on learning to write and to edit their writing. Their affective or attitude to the feedback of writing assessment for writing instruction, the importance of writing assessment, the competence to administer the assessment, time-consuming writing assessment, the confidence of good writing instructor affect their quality in writing assessment. Therefore, in real practice of assessing writing, experienced teachers mostly plan and do their assessment based on what they believe about the assessment. Thus, successful assessing students’ writing does not only constitute the major portion of second language writing teachers’ workloads but also quantifies teachers affective factors. In addition, in administering assessments, teachers as raters need to care their students' and their own affectiveness, so students will value what they learn and teachers will pay attention more to their students’ learning.

Abstract:
A highly engaged workforce is being looked at as the means for attaining a sustainable competitive advantage in the dynamic business world. Research has shown that both the academicians and practitioners tout employee engagement to improve organizational and financial performance. However, numerous overlapping yet inconsistent definitions have created a conceptual chaos. Delineation between the academic and industrial view on employee engagement creates difficulty in operationalization of the construct. This paper explores the construct of employee engagement by conducting structured interviews of HR heads of 15 best companies to work for in India. The data obtained were subjected to thematic analysis using Grounded Theory Methodology by Charmaz (2006). The emergent themes around the notion of employee engagement led to the development of a theoretical framework comprising three dimensions (Alignment, Affectiveness and Action-orientation) of employee engagement. Various drivers of employee engagement and the challenges in engaging employees were exemplified with narratives from practitioners in the Indian context. An attempt has been made to bridge the gap between the academic and industrial view by exploring variables of the construct after taking inputs from the HR practitioners. It attempts to bring a conceptual clarity on construct which may help the organizations to develop effective engagement strategies and interventions for fostering higher engagement levels among employees.

Abstract:
The subject of this research is the analysis of specificity of functionality of communication platforms on the Internet. They can be presented as trading zones, the foundation for development of the new ways for establishing relationships between various actors. Special role in their functioning is played by interaction between human and nonhuman actors, such as interfaces, software strings, voice-activated digital assistant, and other. Such trading zones may be described as the space suggesting formation of the new type of sociality as the basis for building associations and unions between the human and nonhuman actors. Leaning on the methodological approaches towards the analysis of trading zones demonstrated in the works of P. Galison, and application of the elements of methodological approach used in terms of the actor-network theory by B. Latour and M. Callon, the author views functionality of such trading zones as network elements. The main conclusion consists in the statement that the communication platforms may be described as the hybrid distributed spaces of interpretation and harmonization of activity between human and nonhuman actors operating within the framework of the Internet culture. The advantages of hybrid functionality of trading zone on the Internet include: fast creation of new associations and networks; communication and compliance with general rules developed in the process of creation and operation of associations between different actors; constructive character of associations; formation of the situation of uncertainty. The following aspects can be referred to as limitations: formality and technical invariance of their functionality; diminishing connectedness with the traditional cultures; primacy of the rational, rationalization of affectiveness and imposition of the specific standards of rationality.

Abstract:
In order to investigate the problem, we conducted a psychodiagnostic study. During the implementation of the survey, the following tools were used: A. Bass – A. Darkey Questionnaire, Mini-Multifactor Test, Suicidal Risk Questionnaire (T.N. Razuvaeva Modification), Kimberley-Young Internet Addiction Test, Method for determining the tendencies to deviant behavior (A.Orel). The survey was conducted through the written face-to- face group survey of respondents. The resulting data was processed and summarized using statistical processing methods (SPSS v 23). The sample consisted of 78 adolescents (33 boys and 45 girls) aged 15-16 years. According to the results of the analysis, we distinguished two groups of subjects: teenagers with a tendency to deviant behavior and adolescents without such an inclination. Group 1 has included subjects who had high predisposition to the deviant behavior, high rates of aggression, a tendency to Internet addiction, and increased scores of the scale of susceptibility to delinquent behavior. Group 2 has included subjects who did not show the tendency to manifest deviant behavior, and the indicators according to the study were quite low or moderate. Between the indicated groups, differences were shown for a number of indicators. It is stated that adolescents with a high tendency to deviant behavior are characterized by the dominance of emotions over intellectual control in the assessment of situations, affectiveness, disposition to the addictive behavior, computer addiction, as well as high levels of aggression (physical and verbal), feelings of guilt and negativity, demonstration and hypochondria etc. Analyzing the results of the study, we applied the correlation analysis, which revealed the existence of the interconnections between the indicators of "paranoia" with "demonstrativeness" and "uniqueness", as well as between the indicators of aggression and propensity for delinquent behavior.

Abstract:
Purpose Employee engagement has become a hot topic among the global workforce. Both academicians and practitioners tout engagement to have a positive impact on individual and organizational performance. However, despite the enhanced interest, the stagnant engagement levels worldwide pose a grave concern for the researchers. Numerous overlapping and inconsistent definitions of employee engagement lead to a conceptual chaos resulting in poor operationalization of the construct. The purpose of this paper is to develop a multi-dimensional measurement tool for employee engagement based on the evidences from the best companies to work for in India. Design/methodology/approach Interviews with the top management of the 15 best companies are used for the generation of items using grounded theory methodology. These items are then subjected to content validity assessment by six domain experts. The scale is administered to the middle-level employees of five companies (n = 332) through questionnaire for exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, reliability assessment and initial evidences for convergent and discriminant validity. Findings The study aimed at developing and validating an employee engagement assessment instrument, which is well-grounded in theory and built on the conceptual framework proposed by both academicians and practitioners and rigorously tested for its psychometric properties to ensure the precise measurement of employee engagement. A 3-factor/16 item employee engagement measurement tool is the finding of this study, which attempts to bridge the incongruity between the academic and industrial view on employee engagement. Originality/value Looking at the dearth of measurement tools built in developing countries and with the intent of resolving the issues related with cultural differences in the application of western assessment tools, the developed scale made a notable contribution to engagement theory with prime focus in the Indian context. The three dimensions of employee engagement-alignment, affectiveness and action- orientation- are in a form and language, that is, comprehensible and consequential for practitioners enabling them to take a closer look at the critical engagement elements that align with the organization's human capital strategy and foster improved performance.

Abstract:
Physical education focuses on the development of sports skills as well as fitness for health. In Central European countries there has been a shift in these focuses since the fall of Communism to follow internationally-recognised health-related physical activity recommendations, similar to Western European countries. In this study we investigated the extent to which motivation from school physical education transfers to leisure-time physical activity providing autonomy support by three social agents: school (physical education teachers), family and peers. Our study utilised the Aetological Approach (AA), Ecological Model (EM) and the Trans-Contextual Model (TCM) that consists of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and the Self-Determination Theory (SDT) to explore how autonomous motivation is transferred between contexts (physical education, leisure-time and current behaviour). Nine-hundred and seventy-four students aged 11–18 (55% girls) participated in our study from four countries: Hungary, United Kingdom, Romania and Slovakia. A prospective research design was employed, and questionnaires were administered at three time points. Using 7-point Likert scales, attitude, usefulness, and affectiveness were measured. Furthermore, subjective norms and perceived behavioural control (PBC) were tested within TPB. Autonomous and controlling motivation were measured within SDT by administering the Behavioural Regulation in Exercise questionnaires (BREQ and BREQ-2). Finally, past physical activity, intention and current physical activity behaviours were tested. Results indicated that perceived autonomy support from family and friends predicted autonomous motivation towards leisure-time physical activity in all four countries. However, teachers’ behaviour in some Eastern European countries did not predict this transfer. In general, in line with previous literature, boys reported more physical activity than girls. A strong influencing factor in the path model was that past behaviour predicted current behaviour, and according to that factor, boys reported being more active than girls.Boys also perceived more support from PE teachers than girls which was likely to have influenced their autonomous motivation in PE, which in turn transferred to leisure time. We discuss these results in the context of theories exploring the role of motivation and social environment on children’s choices related to physical activity. In conclusion, we suggest providing more autonomy support, especially by schools, for the enhancement of autonomous motivation of young people to promote their leisure time physical activity.

Abstract:
Artikkeli käsittelee yhteisön affektiivista kuvaa nordic noir -televisiosarjan Kaikki synnit (ohj. Mika Ronkainen) musiikissa. Nordic noirin lajityyppiin kuuluu keskeisenä affektina epäilys. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan sarjan keskeistä teemaa, anteeksiantoa, epäilyksien affektiivisena vastinparina.Sarjan tarinamaailma sijoittuu fiktiiviseen pohjoispohjanmaalaiseen Varjakan kuntaan, jonka valtaväestö on vanhoillislestadiolaista. Nordic noirille lajityypilliseen tapaan sarjan tarina nousee ajankohtaisesta yhteiskunnallisesta kysymyksestä, joka Kaikki synnit -televisiosarjassa on sukupuolittunut väkivalta ja seksuaalinen häirintä. Sarjan analyysin teoreettisena viitekehyksenä on 2000-luvun affektiteoria, jossa affektiivisuus ymmärretään kulttuurissa ja yhteiskunnassa syntyneenä.Kaikki synnit -televisiosarjan musiikki hyödyntää affektiivisuutta keskeisenä katsomiskokemusta ja tarinaa jäsentävänä tekijänä. Sarjan tarinamaailmassa yhteisön affektiivisuus näyttäytyy sidoksina ja katkoksina, jota musiikki ilmentää. Sarjaa tarkastellaan artikkelissa feministisen estetiikan valossa: yksiselitteisen väkivallan toistamisen sijaan sarja pyrkii kohti kerrontaa, jossa tarinan päätepisteenä ei ole kosto vaan sovinto menneisyyden kanssa.Avainsanat: Kaikki synnit, nordic noir, televisiosarjan musiikki, affekti, seksuaalinen häirintä, feministinen estetiikkaThe Music of suspicion and the montage of forgiveness: music as an affective image of the community in the television series Kaikki synnitThis article discusses the affective representation of the community in the music of the Nordic noir TV series Kaikki synnit (dir. Mika Ronkainen). The genre of Nordic Noir includes suspicion as a key affect. The article looks at the central theme of Kaikki synnit, forgiveness, as an affective counterpart of suspicion. The story world of the series is set in the fictional North Ostrobothnian town of Varjakka, where the majority of the population are conservative Laestadians. For Nordic noir, in a genre-specific way, the story of the series arises from a topical sociopolitical issue, which in the TV series Kaikki synnit is gendered violence and sexual harassment. The theoretical background of the analysis of the series is formed by recent affect theory, where affect is understood as a social and cultural phenomenon. The music in Kaikki synnit TV series draws on affect as a key factor in the viewing experience. In the story world of the series, the affectiveness of the community is represented as bonds and breaks, which is echoed in the music of the series. The series is viewed in light of feminist aesthetics: instead of repeating unambiguous violence, the series tends toward narration where the end point of the story is not revenge but reconciliation with the past. Keywords: Kaikki synnit, Nordic Noir, music in television series, affect, sexual harassment, feminist aesthetics

Abstract:
Abstract Violent borders are one of the most pressing ethical and political questions of our time. This article seeks to challenge the violent construction of borders through the concept of noise. Drawing on Michel Serres's philosophy of noise and Marie Thompson's emphasis on its affectiveness, the article shows the generative, disruptive, and affective power of noise at the border. I argue that noise creates a disruption in the system and, in doing so, calls for new encounters and relations that operate within and beyond existing power relations. I suggest that the figure of the noisy-subject creates, interrupts, and disturbs the border. The noisy-subject simultaneously prompts disorder and order on the border and transforms it into a third space that is neither simply captured by the sovereign nor fully emancipated from its power. The border as a third space constantly moves with the affective force of its noisy-subjects.

Abstract:
The Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework posits that a collaborative online teaching and learning process can be achieved through three interdependent dimensions of presence: cognitive presence, social presence, and teaching presence. Emotion is considered an important factor in successful online learning. This study explored non-traditional graduate students’ perceived emotional presence that emerged in participants’ online learning experiences. Based on quantitative and qualitative data from 45 non-traditional graduate students in the field of education, the study showed that participants demonstrated both positive emotional expressions (e.g., enjoyment and happiness) and negative expressions (e.g., frustration and disappointment) in their responses. Emotional presence ratings were found be significantly lower than cognitive, teaching, and social presence ratings. Emotions serving different functions were also identified in responses. Direct affectiveness surfaced where participants showed a strong emotional need to make connections with instructors and peers. Outcome emotions were also identified where participants showed emotional responses in regard to their eventual learning outcome. We also found emotional presence by itself a significant predictor of non-traditional graduate students’ satisfaction with online learning. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

Abstract:
Oligo/amenorrhea is one of the most common women’s complaints. The most frequent pathologic causes of this condition is polycystic ovaries that leads to unovulatory cycles. Because of insufficiency of treatment in conventional medicine, we studied view point of Persian Medicine. We searched main Persian Medicine references to collect important information about wet-cupping and phlebotomy in treatment of oligo/amenorrhea especially in patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. For gathering evidence that establish this idea, we searched main English and Persian language databases for studies about effectiveness of wet-cupping and phlebotomy on menstruation. Excretion blood from lower extremities especially saphenous vein phlebotomy and calves wet-cupping while massive blood excreting is recommended by Persian physicians in Ehtebas-e-tams (oligo/amenorrhea). From the 106 citations identified from electronic searches, at beginning, 3 ones meet our study objectives. These articles showed that wet-cupping effect on menstruation in women with PCOS and fertilization. Although any study didn’t find about effectiveness of phlebotomy on menstruation or fertilization, but majority studies show effect of phlebotomy or blood donation on decrease of insulin resistance. More research about treating this condition needed to confirm the affectiveness of phlebotomy or wet-cupping in treatment of oligo/amenorrhea.

Abstract:
Furthering innovation in English as a foreign language curriculum has been a concern for the Colombian educational system for many years. Nevertheless, the major attempts at the national level continue to fail. Through this phenomenological study of 12 participants at a an urban public school in grades 6-12 I attempted to answer the phenomenological question, “What were the lived experiences of key stakeholders involved in implementing an aligned curriculum at an urban public school in a northern city in Colombia, South America? “The theoretical framework that guides this study included innovation, the theory of policy attribution, and the learner-centered philosophy. The study employed Moustakas’ modification of the Stevick-Colaizzi’s-Keen method of phenomenological analysis and van Manen’s (1990) hermeneutic approach to phenomenology. The researcher collected the data through in-depth, semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and reflective diaries. Seven themes emerged from the data: (a) aligned curriculum and political aims, (b) awareness of the significance of affectiveness, (c) a sense of ownership and lifelong learning, (d) communication as the cornerstone of implementation, (e) ability to face uncertainty and challenges, (f) ability to create transformational leadership, and (g) transcendence toward innovation. The study highlights the feasibility of curriculum innovation at the secondary level with key stakeholders’ commitment and full potential.
