Abstract:
The interaction betweenλ—DNA and cationic surfactants with varying alkyl chain lengths was investigated. By dynamic light scattering method, the trimethyl-ammonium bromides-DNA complex formation was shown to be dependent on the length of the surfactant’s alkyl chain. For surfactants with sufficient long alkyl chain (CTAB, TTAB, DTAB), the compacted particles exist with a size of ~60–110 nm at low surfactant concentrations. In contrast, high concentration of surfactants leads to aggregates with increased sizes. Atomic force microscope scanning also supports the above observation. Zeta potential

The corrosion behaviour of cationic surfactants, namely: cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB), have been used as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in well water. Protection efficiencies of the studied surfactants were depended on the hydrophobic chain length and concentration of the surfactants. The results shows that the order of protection efficiency is CTAB > DTAB. Tafel curves showed these surfactants are acting as an anodic inhibitors. Nyquist curves revealed that a protective film is formed on the metal surface. FTIR spectra suggest

The adsorption of dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB) on coal can affect the wettability of coal and change the water absorption of coal. After DTAB treatment, the change in the CH4 adsorption capacity of coal is worth further study. To reveal the microscopic mechanism of the influence of DTAB on the CH4 adsorption capacity of coal, we employed the density functional theory (DFT) with the 6-311 G (d, p) basis set. DFT-based computations interpreted the adsorption process of CH4 and DTAB on coal molecules and determined the stable structure, adsorption distance, Mulliken overlapping popul

Three kinds of mesoporous manganese oxides were prepared successfully via a simple hydrothermal method, using dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB), cetyltrimethyl- ammonium bromide(CTAB) and octadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide(OTAB) as structure directing agents, respectively. The as-synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Brunauer -Emmett-Teller(BET).The experimental results show that the carbon-chain length of surfactants have influences on not only crystal structure and metal valence, but also specific surface area and pore size of the as-prepared materials.

The synthesis of gold nanoparticles has been carried out in aqueous phase in the presence of both ionic surfactants (i.e., sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) and dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)) and poly(amidoamine) dendrimers (PAMAM). It has been observed that the fluoroderivative of 2G PAMAM (2D) acts as reducing agent in reducing Au(III) to Au(0) leading to the formation of fine gold nanoparticles. This process has been further evaluated in the presence of fixed amounts of both SDS and DTAB in their respective pre and post micellar concentration regions. The presence of SDS leads to the ap
