Abstract:
The vitrification and crystallization of glasses in the system BaO(PbO)-B2O3-Al2O3-TiO2, containing (mol %): BaO (24.6-28.1 ), PbO (2.8-3.2), B2O3 (7.6-24.0), Al2O3 (15.9-25.5), TiO2 (39.1-41.1) were investigated. The batch compositions of different oxide molar ratios were fused in an electric furnace in a platinum crucible at 1450 ºC for 2 h and cast into cylindrical-shaped samples. The obtained glasses were crystallized at 950 ºC for 2h. BaTiO3 was recognized as a dominant crystalline phase in the produced glass-ceramic materials. The objective of this work was to obtain glass-ceramics from stable glasses, with a composition of barium, lead, and potassium titanate phases, for use as semiconductors. For this purpose, the glass-ceramic technique was used to control crystal growth and obtain a fine-grained microstructure. Various glasses containing K2O, PbO, BaO, Al2O3, B2O3, and TiO2 were prepared using a melt-quenching method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed a single amorphous phase of all samples. Infrared spectra confirmed the presence of B-O bonds stretching vibrations of (B3O6)3−

In this paper, BaO-ZnO-TiO2-SiO2 is used as the research system of high refractive index glass, and IR, XRD and DTA are used to study the structure, thermal behavior, crystallization and chemical stability of different glasses when B2O3 gradually replaces SiO2. The results show that when B2O3 replaces SiO2, glass still has an amorphous structure, and the density of glass shows a decreasing trend with the increase of B2O3 content. With the increase of B2O3 content, the boron-oxygen tetrahedron gradually transforms into the boron-oxygen triangle, which makes the overall crystallization of the gl

The local environment of titanium in glasses of the system TiO2–BaO–ZnO–B2O3 was studied by x-ray absorption spectroscopy. In all glasses, for TiO2 content varying from 35 to 49 mol%, the titanium atoms are mainly fourfold coordinated network formers. For the glass with the highest titanium content, about 20% of the titanium enters into a sixfold environment, indicating the presence of precrystalline nuclei. These nuclei are responsible for the decrease of the optical performance of the glass above threshold titanium content, prior to any observable crystallization.

The influence of modifier oxides (TiO2, ZnO, BaO, and PbO) on the mechanical and radiation shielding properties of boro-tellurate glasses is investigated. Samples with a composition of B2O3-SrO-TeO2-RO (RO represents the modifier oxides) were fabricated using the melt quench method, and their physical, mechanical, and radiation attenuation parameters were reported.
