Abstract:
Mehdi Akhavan Sales (1928-1990) is one of the most important figures in modern Persian literature. However, his poetry is little known in the West. Even in Iran, though held in high regard, his work is considered hermetic. There is no unambiguous message, no identifiable political or aesthetic doctrine. Still, his poems exert a strange, haunting power. What do they tell us, now, two decades after the poet's death? What do they mean outside their homeland? What is their voice in world literature? These are the questions my dissertation seeks to answer. Chapters on rhythm, metaphor, time and - lyrical and epic - voice aim to place Akhavan in the comparative context of the 20th century literary movements. Following the philosophical hermeneutics of, above all, Paul Ricoeur, I attempt to tease out layers of meaning and bring Akhavan's poems to life for a contemporary reader. Aspects of time and presence throughout serve to structure my argument. In parallel, time and presence are traced as motifs that weave through Akhavan's writing. Through close readings of a wide range of poems I seek to understand Akhavan's texts as crystallisations of a historical moment. However, I also argue that his poems can no longer be explained within the linear evolution of Persian literary history: in their language and imagery, they point to an elsewhere that has not yet been mapped. Akhavan avoids ideological statements and political imperatives. All the same, an ethical stance is manifest in his poetry. Form itself takes on significance. Chapter 1 examines how Ahkavan makes the human time of rhythm converge with the time of the poem. Chapter 2 explores how definitions of metaphor affect the belief in literature's potential to describe and refigure reality. Chapter 3 elucidates the processes by which time is imagined as an unattainable space. Hope and desire belong elsewhere, as does salvation. Chapter 4 treats the genres of lyric and epic as distinct configurations of time. Akhavan's love poetry is a poetry of absence, reaching out to an elusive Other, while his narrative poems adumbrate the possibility of a different, gladder history in the interstices of language.

Abstract:
The topic for this master thesis is transportation of heavy platform modules on barges. The goal is to find the short-term extreme accelerations, or design accelerations, that are limiting for the feasibility of the transportation operation. Motion response analyses have been performed for six different combinations of barges and module weights as follows: Barge                            Module300 feet                  1000 tonnes 300 feet                  3000 tonnes 400 feet                  1000 tonnes 400 feet                  5000 tonnes 600 feet                  5000 tonnes 600 feet                  8000 tonnes It has been observed that the roll acceleration is overestimated in non-viscous motion analyses of barge type vessels. Thus for the first case an additional analysis including viscous roll damping has been performed. The software used to perform the analyses and the theory used has been reviewed. The following programs are described: Genie – modelling of the barge (hull, ballast tanks) HydroD (WADAM) – modelling of environment, hydrodynamic analysis by source technique Postresp – combination and printing of motion characteristics Matlab – statistical postprocessing, calculation of design accelerations The founding theories are linear potential wave theory and source technique. The viscous roll damping, which in reality is non-linear, was estimated in a linearised form using strip theory and empirical data. Based on the calculated motion characteristics, the design accelerations are estimated by short-term statistics, meaning the extreme accelerations are estimated in 3 hour seastates. This was performed for four different significant wave heights and all relevant wave periods. The accelerations are calculated in the system centre of gravity, module centre of gravity and top and bottom corners of the module. The limiting criterion of a barge transportation is normally the forces the seafastening can withstand, thus the acceleration on the seafastening has been examined closer. Aker Solutions have roughly defined the seafastening capacity by setting absolute limits for the accelerations in the longitudinal, transverse and vertical direction. Compared to the criteria for accelerations given by Aker Solutions, the results proved that the acceleration in the transverse direction is the limiting factor. Beam seas close to the roll eigenperiod gave the highest accelerations on the seafastening both in the transverse and vertical direction, suggesting that these accelerations are governed by the roll motion. When viscous roll damping was included, there was a significant reduction in the transverse acceleration, and a slightly smaller reduction in the vertical acceleration on the seafastening compared to the non-viscous case. However, the transverse acceleration was still the most critical with respect to the given criteria. There was little or no effect of viscous roll damping on longitudinal design accelerations. Design accelerations for a 1000 tonne module were found for two different barges, a 300 feet barge and a 400 feet barge. The accelerations proved significantly smaller on the 400 feet barge, especially in the transverse direction. A 5000 tonne module was also tested on two different barges, a 400 feet barge and a 600 feet barge. As in the preceding comparison, the accelerations were significantly larger on the smaller barge. Thus, for a given load, switching to a larger barge can give a large reduction in the acceleration. There are indications that the results achieved are conservative, including the case with viscous roll damping. However, this is only an indication. The viscous roll damping is difficult to estimate correctly and therefore a suggestion could be to investigate the validity of the viscous roll damping model through model tests. A certain reduction in the roll acceleration was observed when the load was increased for the 300 feet barge, without giving an increase in the roll angle extremes. This indicates that for some cases a decrease in the metacentric height can, provided that the stability is sufficient, contribute to a decrease in the roll acceleration without increasing the extreme roll angle. In high sea states, non-linear effects can become significant. The resulting effect on roll acceleration is unknown. Hence, it could be advantageous to investigate the extent of these effects using a non-linear calculation model.

Abstract:
In an attempt to improve the process of supplying coal by way of water to Progress Energyâs Crystal River power plant, a simulation-based technique was developed to find the best schedule of coal barges. The technique uses discrete event simulation principles to find the best solution based on two criteria: minimal demurrage cost and maximal coal tons moved. Many factors are taken into account including channel capacity, tide dependencies, weather delays, periods of scheduled down time, and percentage of trips to each coal terminal. The same technique is also used for long range planning in the decisions of capital allocation of equipment, barge contracts, and coal supplier contracts. A Graphical User Interface coupled with Visual Basic .Net (VB .Net) code is used to implement the approach in a user-friendly and maintainable environment.

Esta pesquisa se detém em verificar a inserção do tema da habitação denominada por Lina Bo Bardi de \"espontânea\", \"primitiva\', \"popular\", na sua obra, no período de 1939 a 1958. Inclui tempos de formação e de primeiras atividades profissionais em solo italiano e os anos iniciais de vida no Brasil, quando ela reside em São Paulo. O núcleo central do estudo desenvolve-se com duas abordagens distintas para o tema: uma teórica, que contempla os escritos de Lina Bo Bardi - ensaios, trabalhos editoriais e jornalísticos - publicados em revistas especializadas; e outra prática, que analisa dois projetos da arquiteta: a Casa de Vidro e a Casa Valéria Piacentini Cirell. Na primeira abordagem, realiza-se um levantamento inicial de conceitos que seriam, na visão de Lina Bo Bardi, inerentes ao trabalho popular, para, no segundo momento, verificar a possível presença desses conceitos na sua prática projetual. Nesse sentido, além de elencar os textos escritos por Lina Bo Bardi no período, procede-se a um levantamento minucioso dos documentos referentes aos projetos das duas casas, incluindo os desenhos e a fortuna crítica de cada uma delas. Cumpre-se a tarefa inicial de organizar em uma seqüência lógica os croquis e os desenhos de projeto, que se encontravam sem data ou anotação de seriação, a qual possibilita a compreensão do procedimento projetual adotado por Lina Bo Bardi. The research examines Bardi\'s work from 1939 to 1958. Those years covered the formative years at and around the university; the beginning of her professional career as an architect in Italy; and her life in Brazil when she first moved to this country to live in Sao Paulo. The central nucleus of the research presents two distinct approaches. First, a conceptual perspective in which Bardi\'s papers - essays, editorial and journalistic works, published in specialised magazines - are thoroughly examined. Secondly, a more empirical perspective examines two of her projects - the Glass House and Valéria Piacentini Cirell\'s House. In the former approach, concepts that are deeply rooted in popular practices - in Lina\'s own view - were identified. Those concepts formed the frame of reference for the second approach. What follows is an analysis of the extent to which Bardi used those theorethical devices in her own design practice. Accordingly, some tasks were completed: a) an original listing of all Bardi\'s papers written between 1939 and 1958; and b) a delailed survey of all design documentation related to the Glass and Cirell projects - this included all the drawings and published criticaI assessments of both projects. As the skelches and drawings were undated and Iacked order, a logical ordering was proposed based on the development of lhe projects. This has helped to understand Bardi\'s methodological thinking when conceiving architectural projects. The intention of the above approaches is to uncover elements of analysis, influences and sources of inspiration in Bardi\'s works and to contribute to an understanding of the griding principles of her architectural projects. The legacy of her work - due to the idiosyncratic nature of its Ianguage - presents such contrasting results, as shown by the references of the two houses analysed, that some historians and critics have regarded Bardi as self-taught and stressed the impossibility of classifying her works in any conventional school fo architecture. Lina Bo Bardi\'s works of architecture are not guided by formal issues but by issues related to previously defined principles.

Texturas, sons, cheiros, podem ser manipulados e considerados, mas o espaço em ação nunca cristalizará estes adereços, que sempre estarão em mutação. E como exemplar de uma postura sensível às dobras da arquitetura e urbanismo, será usado como estudo de caso o trabalho da arquiteta Lina Bo Bardi. Lina parece ter plena noção desses limites, pois sua produção, dobra, delimita, mas seus espaços são permissíveis, eles conduzem uma potência que já existe ali, o lugar vem primeiro que o projeto, e não o contrário. E ao mesmo tempo ela é sensível a um espaço de limites imprecisos, que vão das texturas da matéria à dissolução do complexo arquitetônico na escala urbana. Sua concepção de espaço extrapola de várias maneiras os limites da arquitetura e urbanismo. Portanto, a grande questão que podemos nos ater hoje, como arquitetos, é como nos desdobrar? Ou seja, como nos desatar das dobras e redobras que somos submetidos cotidianamente.<br>Salvador

L'oggetto della mia Tesi è un progetto per la riqualificazione del quartiere Carrassi a Bari. Lo sviluppo del progetto è stato preceduto da un lavoro di analisi. Partendo dall'analisi storica della città con particolare attenzione allo sviluppo del quartiere Carrassi sono state poi effettuate delle analisi dello spazio pubblico, dell'edificato e della relazione tra essi. Queste analisi hanno evidenziato una carenza nel rione Carrassi di spazi pubblici e di aggregazione, una estrema saturazione e disomogeneità dell'edificato con scarse possibilità di costruzione ex novo. Per dare una risposta a queste problematiche ho sviluppato un progetto che si articola su tre livelli di intervento, la riqualificazione della strada, la riqualificazione delle corti interne agli isolati e la creazione di una nuova sede di quartiere.

Abstract:
This study presents laboratory observations of flow characteristics for regular waves passing a rectangular barge in a two dimensional wave tank. The rectangular barge was fixed and free to roll (one degree of freedom) in a beam sea. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) was employed to measure the velocity field in the vicinity of the structure. The mean velocity and turbulence properties were obtained by phase-averaging the velocity profiles from repeated test runs. The quantitative flow characteristics were represented to elucidate the coupled interactions between the regular wave and the barge in roll motion or fixed condition. Additionally, the turbulence properties including the turbulence length scale and the turbulent kinetic energy budget were investigated to characterize the flow pattern due to the wave interaction. Because all the data including wave elevations, roll motion, and dynamic pressure were synchronized with velocity profiles, the results between the roll motion and the fixed condition were compared. The viscous effects due to the flow separation depend on the relative relation between the wave water particle motion and the roll motion of the barge. The viscous damping mechanism that reduces the roll motion at the roll natural period wave is illustrated. It shows that the vortex flow was mainly induced by the roll motion. For wave periods longer than the roll natural period, the flow was separated in different directions accompanying the roll natural period wave. The longer waves may help the roll motion with the vortex flow predominantly separated by the wave water particle motion rather than the barge motion. This may be called the viscous exciting effect. Moreover, the variations of dynamic pressures near the corners were measured and analyzed along with the viscous effect for both the roll motion and the fixed barge cases.

Abstract:
Traditionally the problem of calculating the motion responses of a ship in a seaway has been formulated in frequency domain in terms of linear potential theory. By using the potential flow method in roll calculation, the fluid is assumed to be ideal, irrotational and viscous effects are neglected. Experiments have shown that the roll amplitude responses of rectangular bodies floating in beam waves are overestimated when calculated by potential flow method. This is largely attributable viscous effects [1]. For this reason seakeeping calculation methods introduce empirical factors to account for viscous effects. On the other hand, much of the nonlinear forces and moments experienced by ship in a seaway may be due to the viscous effects leading to flow separation and generation of vortices [2]. One approach to modelling flow separation and vortex shedding is to solve the Navier-Stokes equations. However, for moving bodies in the presence of a free surface at high Reynolds numbers (which implies the use of fine computational meshes) the software and hardware resources required, supposing the problem is even viable, are often so large as to be prohibitive. Another approach is to use methods based on vortex dynamics for modelling separated flows about bluff bodies. These methods were developed as a means of modelling high Reynolds number flows in which the vorticity is confined to small sub-domains of otherwise irrotational flows [2]. This work concerns development of a purely theoretical model for estimating the roll response of vessels that takes these effects into account. The objective of this thesis is to develop a model including viscous effects that can be used in seakeeping and survivability calculations. The idea being proposed is to match a local discrete vortex based method to a global model of a body floating with six degrees of freedom. A software is developed that can be bolted on to conventional seakeeping software so that the motions of sharp edged bodies floating in waves can be calculated without recourse to empirical methods. The theoretical approach to predict roll damping for a three-dimensional barge shaped floating vessel in the frequency domain is described here. The approach consists of matching a simple discrete vortex method (DVM) describing local separated flow, to an inviscid three-dimensional seakeeping code. Model tests have been carried out to validate the theoretical model and the associated add-on software. As demonstrated in this report, there is a good agreement between the model test RAO and the damped RAO indicating the theoretical method provides a good estimate of the viscous damping of the vessel due to vortex shedding from its edges. Although viscous damping in sway and heave motions is not as significant as for the roll for a barge the same methodology can be used to calculate viscous damping for both sway and heave as well. As tangential relative fluid velocities are used in this method the same final relative velocities can be used to calculate skin friction damping component. In this study skin friction damping is considered to be negligible and is ignored in the final calculated damped RAO.

This work met (found) in the experience and the creations of the architect Lina Bo Bardi, a possible way to an answer. Coming from Italy to Brazil in 1946, the architect used her foreign look to analyze the popular art of Bahia s sertão (north-east of Brazil) with an anthropologic method and, having absorbed the information she transformed it in exhibitions, architecture and products, which are one of the possibilities to understand the evolution (story) of the design product in Brazil.<br>Conseqüência de uma busca para o entendimento da arte e, mais especificamente, do projeto de produtos no Brasil; este trabalho encontrou na experiência da produção da arquiteta Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992) um caminho possível para uma resposta. Tendo vindo da Itália para o Brasil em 1946 a arquiteta utilizou seu olhar estrangeiro para interpretar a arte popular do sertão da Bahia como uma metodologia antropológica e, tendo absorvido estas informações as transformou em exposições, arquiteturas e produtos que são uma das tantas possibilidades para o entendimento da história do produto no Brasil.

Pietro Maria Bardi, \"cronista\" de arte, arquitetura, design (e de muitos outros temas) e galerista experiente na Itália, veio ao Brasil em 1947, aos 47 anos. Trouxe consigo sua segunda esposa, Lina Bo Bardi, e uma coleção de arte a ser exposta no Ministério da Educação e Saúde, no Rio. Foi tão logo convidado por Assis Chateaubriand, diretor da cadeia de jornais Diários Associados, (Diário de S. Paulo etc.) a organizar um Museu de Arte \"Antiga e Moderna,\" que resultou no Museu de Arte de São Paulo--Masp. Tinha por intenção criar um museu vivo organizando, vinculados ao Masp, o Instituto de Arte Contemporânea--IAC, e a Escola de Propaganda, embrião da atual Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing--ESPM, as primeiras tentativas, no Brasil, de uma escola de design e de publicedade. Suas iniciativas buscavam atrair público e tornar a arte acessível, contribuído para que fosse produzida com qualidade pelos brasileiros para os próprios brasileiros, através da conscientização de apreciadores e patrocinadores dessas manifestações. Assim, Bardi, ciente do papel da publicidade, percebia a importância de divulgar tudo relativo às iniciativas do Masp e à arte. Usava como veículos a rede dos Diários, a Habitat (a revista do Masp), a Mirante das Artes & etc. (a revista homônima de sua galeria) e periódicos diversos, principalmente os geridos pelas famílias Carta e Alzugaray. Esses textos brasileiros do diretor e criador do maior museu da América Latina ainda não foram oficialmente compilados nem analisados, especialmente em virtude da dificuldade em acessá-los. Esta pesquisa, um primeiro passo para essa importante e trabalhosa tarefa e concentrou-se em seus artigos publicados nos magazines Casa Vogue, Homem Vogue, Arte Vogue, Senhor Vogue, Senhor e Istoé, no intervalo de 1976 à 1988, período que compreende sua primeira aparição como colaborador nas revistas de Vogue, até a fusão, em 1988, das revistas Senhor e Istoé, da Editora Três.<br>Pietro Maria Bardi was a journalist and author who wrote about art, design and architecture (along with many other subjects) and an experienced gallerist in Italy. He came to Brazil in 1947, at the age of 47. He brought his second wife, Lina Bo Bardi, and a collection of art to be exhibited in the Health and Education Administration, in Rio De Janeiro. Later Bardi was invited by Assis Chateaubriand, the Diários Associados\'s director, to create an Ancient and Modern Art Museum. This resulted in the creation of the São Paulo Art Museum - Masp. He wanted to create a \"living\" museum, by which he meant a museum with a more interesting and interactive experience. He combined the Contemporary Art Institute, (IAC) the first Brazilian design school, with an advertising school, all under one roof. His goal was to make all kinds of art accessible to everybody, contributing to its creation and quality, by brasilians for brasilians, he did this with the conscientiousness of a connoisseur and with the sponsorship of the art community. Thus, Bardi, conscious of the role of marketing realized the true importantance of advertizing everything related to Masp\'s exhibitions and other initiatives. Alongside the Chateaubriand\'s media, Bardi also advertised and wrote article in the Habitat (the Museum magazine) and Mirante das Artes & etc. (the homonym magazine of his art gallery) magazines and other periodicals like the ones directd by Carta and Alzugaray families. These brazilian articles on art and other related topics, produced by the creator and director of the most important latin american art museum, were never compiled or analysed, most likely because of the difficulty to access them. This research is intended to be the first step of this important and laborious task and focuses on Bardi´s writings published in Casa Vogue, Homem Vogue, Arte Vogue, Senhor Vogue, Senhor e Istoé magazines, between 1976 and 1988, from his first showing as collaborator in Vogue to the merger of Senhor e Istoé magazines, of Editora Três.

This dissertation describes and analyses a selection of morphosyntactic phenomena from the nominal, verbal and clausal domains of Barese, an upper southern Italian dialect of Puglia. Chapter 2 analyses pragmatically unmarked and marked sentential word orders in Barese. Barese is a null-subject language whose unmarked transitive word order is (S)VO, in which syntactic constituents can be displaced in accordance with their pragmatico-semantic relevance to the discourse. One peculiarity of Barese regards intransitives encoding a loco-temporal (c)overt argument, where VS and SV orders may both mark sentence-focus. While VS encodes a null loco-temporal argument, SV serves to encode broad focus whenever S is ‘accessible’ in the mind of both discourse participants forming part of their ‘common ground’. Chapter 3 examines the structure of Barese nominal expressions, focusing on the interaction between adjectives, possessives and demonstratives. Barese nominals nearly systematically precede adjectives and possessives, except for a small class of rudimentary evaluative adjectives which may occur prenominally. These orders, derived via the phrasal movement of the nominal across its modifiers, are contrasted with the head movement of a morpholexically restricted class of kinship nominals which can be modified by a defective set of enclitic possessives. The final section analyses the behaviour of Barese demonstratives, which only occur in prenominal position. In particular, a peculiar Barese structure which combines the definite article with the distal demonstrative pronoun is analysed, highlighting how it specifically marks discourse-old referents. Chapter 4 describes the mechanisms of auxiliary selection and past participle agreement operative in Barese. In relation to the former, Barese displays three different factors which may determine auxiliary selection, namely person, tense and mood. These three dimensions of variation are analysed in terms of parameter hierarchies which formalise the complexity of the semantic features involved in the selection of the auxiliaries HAVE and BE. It is argued that this complexity reflects different diachronic stages of auxiliary selection across different generations of speakers. The final section investigates Barese active past participle agreement which, unlike auxiliary selection, displays a conservative distribution licensed by direct objects and Undergoer subjects. The peculiarity of Barese, however, is that agreement is morpholexically limited to a small number of ‘strong’ participles which mark agreement exclusively through metaphonetic alternation. The final chapter is concerned with Barese progressive and andative periphrases which variously show inflected forms of the lexical verb in the 2SG-3SG of the present in place of the infinitive. These structures have been argued for Salentino and Sicilian dialects to have developed from instances of coordination with Latin AC ‘and’, which were then reinterpreted as instances of (pseudo-)coordination, namely subordination. In contrast, a different origin for these inflected forms of the lexical verb is proposed for Barese, where AC-coordination is not historically attested. It is argued that the loss of the infinitival ending -RE produced morphophonological identity, viz. syncretism, between the 3SG(/2SG) present and the infinitive, enabling the latter to be reinterpreted as a finite form within the periphrasis. This spred further across the neighbouring dialects to include more grammatical persons (3SG/2SG > 1SG > 3PL > all), as well as past and irrealis paradigms.

Este trabalho de pesquisa refere-se à documentação da obra escrita da arquiteta ítalo-brasileira Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992). A partir do levantamento de seu acervo escrito, estrutura o banco de dados para organizar a catalogação de seus textos com informações bibliográficas, dados das revistas e resumo de conteúdos, bem como faz a indicação dos acervos onde é possível encontrar os textos. Em paralelo, a pesquisa descortina o cenário intelectual das publicações nas quais a arquiteta trabalhou na Itália e no Brasil. Através do levantamento das ideias fundamentais de seus colegas na Itália racionalista de 40 a 46, do debate nas revistas e jornais como Domus, Casabella, Lo Stile, Grazia, apresenta-se o contexto no qual a arquitetura moderna se consolidou no país. Os discursos transitavam entre as definições estéticas e técnicas do racionalismo e as posições político-sociais. Lina Bo Bardi, recém formada, absorveu este debate de modo estrutural para a atividade profissional desenvolvida no Brasil. O trabalho aborda também o panorama das ideias de arquitetura no Brasil modernista e pós Brasília percorrendo o período de 1947 a 1985 para estruturar o percurso do trabalho escrito da arquiteta imigrada. Elaborando sua ideia de arquitetura nas revistas Habitat, Mirante das Artes, Malasartes, ou jornais da época, Lina Bo Bardi colaborou para a difusão da arquitetura moderna nacional valorizando a construção de uma cultura urbana ancorada nas experiências das vanguardas modernas europeias e de um sentido desalienado para o léxico popular. A pesquisa publica ainda, fac-similares de artigos ao longo do texto sobre este estado de questões no campo da arquitetura na Itália e no Brasil. Eles estão articulados ao panorama de conceitos e debates no qual forjou-se a ideia de arquitetura de Lina Bo Bardi.<br>This work refers to the written documentation about the Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi (1914-1992). It is the result of a survey of the archives of her written works. It structures the data bank to organize the catalog of her texts which contain bibliographic information, data from magazines and abstracts, and it indicates the archives where the texts are. Also, this research unveils the intellectual scene of the publications in which the architect worked both in Italy and in Brazil. Through the survey of her colleagues fundamental ideas in the 1940-46 rationalist Italy and the debate in magazines and newspapers such as Domus, Casabella, Lo Stile, and Grazia, the context in which modern architecture consolidated in the country presents itself. The discourse variegated between the aesthetic and technical definitions of rationalism and the social-political positions. Lina Bo Bardi, newly graduated then, absorbed this debate in a structural fashion into her professional activities in Brazil. The research also addresses the panorama of ideas on architecture in modernist Brazil post-Brasília from 1947 to 1985 to structure the pathway of the written works of the immigrant artist. Elaborating her ideas on architecture either in magazines such as Habitat, Mirante das Artes, Malasartes, or in newspapers from that period, Lina Bo Bardi collaborated with the diffusion of the national modern architecture, emphasizing the construction of an urban culture based on the state of the art experiences in modernist Europe, and on a non-alienated sense for the popular lexicon. The research also publishes facsimiles of articles about this state of questions in the architectural field both in Brazil and in Italy. They are articulated to the scenery of concepts and debates in which Lina Bo Bardis idea of architecture was steadily built.

M?TODOS: Estudo de coorte hist?rica, com revis?o de prontu?rio de 200 pacientes que preencheram os crit?rios de inclus?o para o estudo. Foram analisados os medicamentos utilizados, as consultas e os exames realizados nos per?odos pr? e p?s-cir?rgico. RESULTADOS: O estudo demonstrou que ocorreu varia??o das despesas no pr? e p?scir?rgico conforme a exist?ncia de comorbidezes e a forma de pagamento. Podemos observar que a melhora ou remiss?o das comorbidezes associadas, gera em longo prazo, uma redu??o das despesas com medicamentos, exames e profissionais. Houve associa??o estat?stica entre os gastos de medicamentos, exames e profissionais no pr? e p?s-cir?rgico. CONCLUS?O: Os custos da cirurgia s?o elevados, mas em longo prazo, os efeitos cl?nicos positivos da cirurgia e a redu??o dos custos com o tratamento, comprova que a cirurgia ? custo efetiva.

The excess of weight is the most well-established and potentially modifiable risk factor for developing UI. Weight loss is known to improve symptoms. This thesis was divided into two papers Objectives: The aim of the first paper is to evaluate the prevalence, risk factors and impact on the quality of life of UI symptoms in patients with obesity. The second study aims to evaluate the modification of symptoms after bariatric surgery and identify factors associated with remission of symptoms. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed with female patients in the preoperative period of bariatric surgery, followed by a prospective cohort with patients who presented UI symptoms. The evaluation was carried out with the application of a form and with quality of life questionnaires specific to UI, validated for the Portuguese language. Results: In the cross-sectional study, of the 221 patients evaluated, 118 (53.4%) reported episodes of UI. The prevalence of UI was 47% higher in patients who had a vaginal delivery and 34% higher in postmenopausal women. The severity of the symptoms was considered moderate in 63 (53.3%) patients. In the cohort study, eighty-eight (74.6%) of the patients were followed up and re-evaluated after 6-12 months after the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. Of these, 50 (56.8%) had remission of symptoms. Patients who only had a cesarean delivery type had a greater probability of remission of symptoms. Patients with an additional point in the "International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form" (ICIQ-SF) result prior to surgery had a 4% lower probability of remission of symptoms. Conclusion: UI has a high prevalence in patients with obesity and has a negative impact on quality of life. In the cross-sectional study, vaginal delivery and menopause were independent risk factors associated with UI. In the cohort study, cesarean section was associated with greater remission of symptoms, while patients with higher ICIQ-SF scores had lower remission of symptoms.<br>Introdu??o: Os sintomas de incontin?ncia urin?ria (IU) s?o altamente prevalentes em mulheres com obesidade. O excesso de peso ? o fator de risco mais bem estabelecido e potencialmente modific?vel no desenvolvimento da IU. A perda de peso est? associada a melhora dos sintomas. Esta tese foi dividida em dois trabalhos. A avalia??o foi realizada com a aplica??o de um formul?rio e com question?rios de qualidade de vida espec?ficos para IU, validados para a l?ngua portuguesa. Conclus?o: A IU ? altamente prevalente em pacientes com obesidade e tem um impacto negativo na qualidade de vida. No estudo transversal, parto vaginal e menopausa foram fatores de risco independentes associados a IU. No estudo decoorte, a ces?rea foi associada a maior remiss?o dos sintomas ap?s a cirurgia, enquanto pacientes com escores mais elevados no ICIQ-SF tiveram menor remiss?o de sintomas.

DE ENSINO<br>L oeuvre de Lina Bo Bardi est multiforme non seulement par la quantité de domaines professionnels d expertise, l architecture, la scénographie, muséographie et la restauration, mais aussi par la quantité de questions et concepts abordés dans leurs essais. En Europe, la architecte, au milieu de l incapacité de construire en raison de la guerre prend l écriture comme l autre façon de faire de l architecture. Les essais écrits par elle en 1943-1991 sont la base de cette recherche, et à partir de leurs analyse, et de la documentation graphique, nous avons pu d observer la présence de l expérience et des concepts de pauvreté présents le long du travail de l architecte, dans les textes et dans d autres domaines d activité. Sur les concepts de pauvreté et de l expérience a été établi une tension entre la lecture de Lina Bo Bardi et Walter Benjamin, qui a également beaucoup travaillé avec ce thème au long de son travail. Le rapprochement entre les penseurs sont nombreux, sont donnés non seulement parce qu ils partageaient un environnement de guerre qui les a amenés à observer la pauvreté de l expérience en raison des traumatismes et des silences causés par la destruction et les conflits, mais aussi de partager des vues similaires sur critique de la modernité, les rapports de production et l évolution des formes de logement. En bref, la vision de Benjamin sur ces concepts sont la base de la cartographie de ces derniers dans le travail de Lina Bo Bardi, et aussi une clée pour la lecture de ton travail aux multiples facettes de l architecte.<br>A obra de Lina Bo Bardi é multifacetada não só pela quantidade de campos profissionais de atuação como o design, a arquitetura, a cenografia, museografia e a restauração, mas também pela quantidade de questões e conceitos abordados em seus diversos ensaios. Na Europa, a arquiteta, em meio a impossibilidade do fazer arquitetônico em virtude da guerra, toma a escrita como um outro caminho para o fazer arquitetônico. Os ensaios escritos por ela no período de 1943 a 1991 são a base da pesquisa, a partir da análise deles e da documentação gráfica, foi possível observar a presença dos conceitos de experiência e pobreza presentes ao longo da obra da arquiteta, tanto nos textos quanto nos outros campos de atuação. Tratando-se dos conceitos de pobreza e experiência, foi estabelecido um tensionamento entre a leitura de Lina Bo Bardi e a de Walter Benjamin que também trabalhou intensamente com esse tema ao longo de sua obra. A aproximação entre os teóricos são muitas, são dadas não só por terem partilhados um ambiente de guerra que os levou a observar a pobreza da experiência em virtude dos traumas e dos silenciamentos causados pelas destruições e pelos conflitos, mas também por partilharem visões similares quanto a crítica da modernidade, as relações de produção e a mudança das formas de moradia. Em suma, a visão de Benjamin sobre esses conceitos não foi somente a base para o mapeamento destes na obra de Lina Bo Bardi, mas também uma chave de leitura dessa atuação multifacetada da arquiteta.

A dissertação aborda as relações entre arquitetura, artes plásticas e teatro da forma como estas aparecem na obra da arquiteta Lina Bo Bardi. Partindo do estudo das arquiteturas cênicas projetadas entre 1960 e 1985, bem como da trajetória dos diretores e grupos teatrais nelas envolvidos, procuramos identificar os procedimentos projetuais acionados pela arquiteta, assim como as relações estabelecidas com o conjunto de sua obra, investigando possíveis articulações com o panorama artístico nacional e internacional. A investigação em torno da dimensão urbana tomada por algumas das montagens teatrais estudadas, bem como da relação destas com o projeto museográfico e atividades dos museus aos quais a arquiteta esteve ligada (especialmente o Museu de Arte de São Paulo, o Museu de Arte Modena da Bahia e o Museu de Arte Popular do Unhão) nos levou a tecer uma série de possíveis relações entre os campos da arquitetura, das artes plásticas e do teatro, abrindo a possibilidade de reflexão sobre os procedimentos projetuais adotados e sobre as perspectivas vislumbradas para a arquitetura no sentido do que Lina chamou de uma \"re-proposição não perfeccionista do racionalismo\".<br>The dissertation correlates architeture, fine arts and theatre and how these subjects arise in Lina Bo Bardi´s work. Starting from the study of the scenical projects created between 1960 and 1985 and broaching the director´s and theatrical groups involved on it, this treatise tries to identify the projectual proceedings applied by the architect, as well as the relations established with her work and investigating possible links with with the nacional and international artistic panorama. The analysis of the urban dimension reached by some of the studied plays as well as its approach with the project and the activities developed at the museums to which Lina was related (especially to the São Paulo Art Museum - MASP, to the Bahia´s Modern Art Museum and to the Unhão Popular Art Museum) takes us to possible relations between architecture, fine arts and theatre. It also takes us to possible reflexions on the projectual preceedings adopted and the descried perspectives for architecture, or to what Lina called as a \"re-proposition non perfectionist of the rationalism\".

Este projeto busca analisar o Cavalete de Cristal, aparato expositivo criado no fim da década de 1950 pela arquiteta ítalo-brasileira Lina Bo Bardi para ser a peça central da composição da expografia do Museu de Arte de São Paulo, o MASP. A pesquisa evidenciará que o design dessa peça - a partir da solução espacial para a qual foi planejada e do discurso curatorial nela embutido - criou uma gramática expográfica singular que, mesmo após sua extinção em 1996, ainda reverbera de maneira potente em discussões internacionais sobre os desafios da apresentação da arte em museus na atualidade. Esta pesquisa reflete a necessidade de se voltar o olhar para a proposta de Lina Bo Bardi, evidenciando a validade de uma retomada do projeto original desse museu como forma de recuperar um espaço de vivência cultural fundamental da cidade de São Paulo - que, como poucos, nasceu de um profundo entendimento das especificidades da cultura brasileira.<br>This project undertakes an analysis of the Crystal Easel, exhibition apparatus created in the late 1950s by the Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi as the central element in the expographic composition of the Museu de Arte de São Paulo, MASP. Taking the spatial solution for which the apparatus was planned and the curatorial discourse embedded in it as starting point, the study will show that the design of this object created a singular expographic grammar that, even after its extinction in 1996, continues to reverberate forcefully in international discussions about the challenges of displaying art in museums today. This research relects the need to turn our attention to Lina Bo Bardi\'s proposal, evidencing the validity of resuming the museum\'s original proposal as a way to recover a fundamental space for cultural experience in the city of São Paulo - a museum which, like few others, was born of a deep understanding of the particularities of Brazilian culture.

Bibliography: pages 81-85.<br>This thesis addresses some of the issues involved in using numerical methods to simulate the laying of an offshore pipeline, the objective being to contribute to the expertise of the South African offshore technology. Of particular interest is the prediction of the stresses in the pipe during such an event. The thesis concentrates on the use and suitability of the finite element method to simulate the important aspects of the pipelaying problem. ABAQUS, a nonlinear general purpose finite element code, was chosen as numerical tool, and nonlinear effects such as geometry and drag, as well as contact and lift-off at the boundaries, are included in the models. The analysis is performed in two parts: in the static analysis the displaced equilibrium position of the pipeline under self weight, buoyancy and barge tension is sought, whilst the response due to wave action and barge motion is of interest in the dynamic analysis. Numerical experiments show the suitability of ABAQUS to model the behaviour of slender structures under both static loads and dynamic excitations.

La presente tesis doctoral versa sobre la dimensión social de la conservación preventiva aplicada al patrimonio arqueológico urbano, así como a los beneficios que puede generar una efectiva gestión del patrimonio arqueológico en la vida cotidiana de los habitantes. Se trata de una investigación que incide especialmente en la dimensión teórica y metodológica; sentando las bases para futuras aplicaciones. Una de sus principales aportaciones resulta de explorar los beneficios de la conservación preventiva arqueológica en espacios abiertos, en este caso ubicados en el medio urbano. En el trabajo que aquí presento me centraré en una modalidad de prevención asociada a la gestión de riesgos, que es también el sistema recientemente adoptado en conservación preventiva por el Instituto de Patrimonio Cultural Español (Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte 2018). Este trabajo busca generar un marco de trasndisciplinariedad entre tres materias fundamentales: arqueología, conservación y gestión de patrimonio, de tal forma que se mejore el diálogo entre profesionales, académicos y técnicos de la administración. El Barri Gòtic de Barcelona ha sido el telón de fondo de este estudio, donde se exploran a nivel teórico, metodológico y contextual cuáles son las bases que permitan fomentar una transformación que socialice la conservación arqueológica en el medio urbano en particular, pero con la pretensión de ser extrapolable a otros contextos. El Barri Gòtic, con su carácter multitemporal marcado por los edificios de distintas épocas, es idóneo para nutrir la investigación actuando como un palimpsesto. Los restos arqueológicos elegidos se ubican en el espacio público, en las plazas denominadas: Vila de Madrid, Vuit de Març y Traginers; y la recientemente creada, plaza de Carme Simò, que en este trabajo denomino como el “el Solar de la Muralla” o el “Solar de Sotstinent Navarro”. En ellas, las problemáticas de conservación planteadas en esta tesis doctoral se abordan de forma innovadora, analizando los riesgos derivados de su naturaleza intrínseca, y los relacionados con el tejido urbano y otros agentes que actúan en el contexto. Aparte de estos casos seleccionados, la investigación abarca también una serie de eventos puntuales o reiterados en el tiempo que han sucedido en el barrio en relación con el patrimonio cultural y que permiten comparar las dinámicas ordinarias y extraordinarias del contexto. En cada uno de estos sitios se han aplicado una serie de técnicas etnográficas que me han permitido analizar las interacciones que se producen entre patrimonio y sociedad y determinar los riesgos y conflictos a través de un análisis holístico. También se han experimentado y examinado distintas formas de representación de datos a nivel metodológico. He efectuado mi trabajo de campo de forma diacrónica durante los años 2014 a 2017, explorando las dinámicas asociadas a la vida cotidiana de los espacios y comparando estas con el disfrute y uso durante eventos específicos. Los “eventos” que sucedían en las plazas a estudiar, y en otras del barrio, se han estudiado dividiéndolos en función de su naturaleza: arriba-abajo y abajo-arriba. En esta tesis doctoral propondremos que las intervenciones de conservación preventiva en el espacio público deben considerar el espacio sociocultural que circunda al bien cultural, alineándose con las nuevas teorías en torno a la conceptualización del patrimonio como proceso cultural. A través de un análisis del trabajo de campo realizado, he confeccionado una serie de pautas metodológicas que denomino “etnografías patrimoniales”, es decir, la aplicación de un conjunto de técnicas que nos permitan obtener datos relacionados directamente con el rol que desarrolla el patrimonio cultural en el espacio público: la sinergia entre ciudadanía y patrimonio. Estas técnicas me han conducido a diseñar y realizar una serie de análisis de riesgos, a los que he sumado un análisis de conflictos, con el fin de incluir estas interacciones “sociedad-patrimonio” en los diagnósticos de conservación de los bienes culturales. Estas aplicaciones conferirán a la disciplina de la conservación preventiva un carácter inclusivo para la sociedad, ya que los riesgos y conflictos que atañen al tejido social o usuarios del espacio público se verán incluidos en la gestión de riesgos global del bien cultural, y por tanto en sus dinámicas de mitigación. Proponemos como conclusión del trabajo realizado, que, transformando y conservando el contexto, previamente analizado desde una perspectiva etnográfica, e incluyendo las sinergias que en él acontecen, podemos resignificar y enfatizar el sentimiento de pertenencia. Defendemos por tanto la búsqueda y consecución de un sentimiento curativo, que se adapte a las mutaciones que acontecen y transforman la ciudad.<br>This doctoral thesis examines the social dimension of preventive conservation applied to urban archaeological heritage, as well as the benefits that an effective management of archaeological heritage can generate in the daily life of inhabitants. It is an investigation that has a special impact on the theoretical and methodological dimensions of archaeology and heritage and intends to lay the foundations for future applications. This work aims to generate a transdisciplinary framework between three fundamental subjects: archaeology, conservation and heritage management, in a manner that improves the dialogue between professionals, academics and administration technicians.One of the main contributions of the thesis is to explore the benefits of preventive archaeological conservation in urban open. The research focuses on a form of prevention associated with risk management, which is also the system recently adopted in preventive conservation by the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute (Ministry of Culture and Sport 2018). The Gothic Quarter of Barcelona is the background of this study. By analysing this case study, the thesis explores at a theoretical, methodological and contextual level what are the main aspects that can foster the socialization of archaeological conservation. The Gothic Quarter, with its multi-temporal atmosphere characterised by buildings from different periods, acts as a suitable palimpsest that nurtures the research. The archaeological remains chosen are located in the following public spaces: Vila de Madrid, Vuit de Març and Traginers; and the recently created Carme Simò square, which in this work I refer to as the "Solar de la Muralla" or the "Solar de Sotstinent Navarro". In these plazas, the conservation challenges are approached in an innovative way, analysing both the risks derived from their intrinsic nature and those related to the urban fabric and other agents that act in the context. During my research I employed a set of ethnographic techniques in each of these sites, allowing me to analyse the interactions between heritage and society and to determine risks and conflicts through a holistic analysis. I have also tested and examined different modes of data representation on a methodological level. I have carried out my fieldwork during a long period of time between the years 2014 and 2017. During fieldwork I was able to analyze a series of specific or repeated events related to cultural heritage that have taken place in the Gothic neighbourhood which allow us to compare the ordinary and extraordinary dynamics of the use of space. In this sense, I explored the dynamics associated with the daily life of spaces, comparing its enjoyability and use throughout specific events. The "events" that took place in the squares to be studied, and in other neighbourhood ones, have been explored by dividing them in accordance with their nature: top-down and bottom-up. In this doctoral thesis I will propose that preventive conservation interventions in the public space should include the socio-cultural space which surrounds the cultural good, in alignment with the new theories on the conceptualisation of heritage as a cultural process. Through a fieldwork analysis, I have elaborated a series of methodological guidelines that I denominate "heritage ethnographies". These ethnographies allow us to obtain data directly related to the role of cultural heritage in the public space. These techniques have prompted me to design and carry out a series of risk analyses, to which I have incorporated a conflict analysis, in order to integrate these "society-heritage" interactions into the conservation diagnoses of cultural assets. These implementations will confer a social and inclusive dimension to the discipline of preventive conservation. Risks and conflicts involving the social fabric or users of public space will be incorporated into the overall risk assessment of the cultural property, and hence its mitigation dynamics. As a conclusion I propose that by transforming and preserving the context and including the synergies between heritage and users of space, we can resignify and emphasize the sense of belonging. I therefore defend the pursuit and consecution of a curative sense that is adapted to the mutations that occur and transform the city.

Abstract:
The current design code governing bridge structure resistance to vessel impact loads in the U.S. is the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials' (AASHTO) Guide Specification and Commentary for Vessel Collision Design of Highway Bridges. The code stipulated method, based on Meir-Dornberg's equivalent static load method, is usually not warranted because of insufficient data on the impact load histories and wide scatter of the impact force values. The AASHTO load equations ignore certain fundamental factors that affect the determination of impact forces and bridge dynamic responses. Some examples of factors that are omitted during standard impact force analysis are: impact duration, pier geometry, barge-barge and barge-pier interactions, and structural characteristics of bridges. The purpose of this research is to develop new methods and models for predicting barge impact forces on piers. In order to generate research information and produce more realistic flotilla impact data, extensive finite element simulations are conducted. A set of regression formulas to calculate the impact force and time duration are derived from the simulation results. Also, a parametric study is performed systematically to reveal the dynamic features of barge-bridge collisions. A method to determine the quasi upper bound of the average impact force under any given scenarios is preposed. Based on the upper bounds of the average impact forces, an impact spectrum procedure to determine the dynamic response of piers is developed. These analytical techniques transform the complex dynamics of barge-pier impact into simple problems that can be solved through hand calculations or design charts. Furthermore, the dependency of the impact forces on barge-barge and barge-pier interactions are discussed in detail. An elastoplastic model for the analysis of multi-barge flotillas impacting on bridge piers is presented. The barge flotilla impact model generates impact force time-histories for various simulation cases in a matter of minutes. The results from the proposed model are compatible with the respective impact time-histories produced by an exhuaustive finite element simulation. All of the proposed methods and loading functions in this study are illustrated through design examples. Accordingly, the research results may help engineers to enhance bridge resistance to barge impacts and also lead to economic savings in bridge protection design.

Abstract:
This thesis studies the application of gain-scheduling (GS) control techniques to floating offshore wind turbines on barge platforms. Modelling, control objectives, controller design and performance evaluations are presented for both low wind speed and high wind speed cases. Special emphasis is placed on the dynamics variation of the wind turbine system caused by plant nonlinearity with respect to wind speed. The dynamics variation is represented by a linear parameter-varying (LPV) model. The LPV model for wind turbines is derived by linearizing the nonlinear dynamics at various operating wind speeds and by interpolating the linearized models. In low wind speed, to achieve control objectives of maximizing power capture and minimizing platform movements, for the LPV model, the LPV GS design technique is explored. In this region, the advantage of making use of blade pitch angle as a control input is also investigated. In high wind speed, to achieve control objectives of regulating power capture and minimizing platform movements, both LQR and LPV GS design techniques are explored. To evaluate the designed controllers, simulation studies are conducted with a realistic 5 MW wind turbine model developed at National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and realistic wind and wave profiles. The average and root mean square values of power capture and platform pitch movement are adopted as performance measures, and compared among designed GS controllers and conventional controllers. The comparisons demonstrate the performance improvement achieved by GS control techniques.

The universe of the girl who was bornin Rome in the same year of the 1st World War, the young woman who chose architecture, until then a typically maleprofession, and then who left to live alone in Milan; woman who decided to leave her country to build, along with herhusband, a new history in Brazil. A universe tailored by the habitat theme, which was elaborated by Lina throughout her life,revealing different directions, dimensions, without losing, however, the principle of simplicity of living in harmony with nature.This habitat was naive and introspective in watercolors, rational and critical in texts and illustrations, functional and popular indesigns and chronics. The different dimensions of habitat were primarily revealed through the analysis of documents foundin the Lina Bo and Pietro Maria Bardi Institute, confirming the relevance of the theme in the work of Lina.These dimensions, in turn, gave rise to specific forms of housing, which materialized these senses and rescued the "lostforms", as used by Lina in her works, and that generated at least three types of housings: the Houses of Stories, theHouses of Journals and of the Houses of Chronicles. This division helps to better understand the universe of Lina andeven her work, showing that the houses of Lina are representative part of the whole.

The Maritime museum is currently investigating possibilities for an exhibition building housing the ceremony boat the “Royal Barge of Sweden” and 18th century King Gustav III’s leisure boats. I hope to influence this debate with this degree project. The architectural theme of the project has been learning about natural light and its relation to exhibition spaces. The initial research phase consisted of museum visits, research into projects by Gunnar Mattson and a historic comparison of the Maritime museum’s exhibition rooms. The proposed building is in Haga park, connecting to an existing jetty below Vasaslätten’s café. A concrete dry dock with an adjacent exhibition space is the main room of the building, making it possible to use the largest barge on the Brunnsviken waters. The rest of the building parts are smaller wooden pavilions on land, exhibiting the boats that are not in use. A variety of spaces and light conditions are offered. The dry dock is approached from a dark narrow entrance and opens to a bright tall space as one walk down a red carpet. The leisure boat pavilions are lit from underneath, giving the impression of the boats floating in another element.

Oscar Bardi de Fourtou est entré dans l’histoire de la vie politique française comme l’Homme du Seize-Mai, ministre de l’Intérieur à poigne, qui ne laisse pas de place à la contestation de ses décisions que l’urgence d’une crise commande. Chargé par le maréchal de Mac-Mahon de mener une lutte contre les républicains, il procède à d’importants mouvements de fonctionnaires afin que l’action gouvernementale soit soutenue localement par des agents fidèles et dévoués. Avec la dissolution de la Chambre des députés en juin 1877, il est chargé de préparer les élections législatives et empêcher les républicains de les gagner. Tous les moyens légaux sont utilisés mais soumis à la pression des différentes composantes de l’alliance conservatrice qui soutiennent l’initiative présidentielle. L’échec électoral provoque la responsabilité évidente d’un ministre trop exposé pendant la crise. Cette condamnation des vainqueurs est aussi perceptible dans les rangs de la droite conservatrice, déçue que Fourtou n’ait pris de résolutions plus radicales. Sa carrière politique est fulgurante. Avocat au barreau de Ribérac, puis maire de la ville, il est élu député de la Dordogne à trente-six ans en février 1871. Inscrit au centre-droit, il se fait remarquer par Thiers qui le nomme ministre des Travaux Publics. Après la chute du président de la République, il se rapproche de la droite dynastique et obtient la confiance de Mac-Mahon qui lui confie le ministère de l’Instruction publique, des Cultes et des Beaux-Arts. Il incarne alors une expression autoritaire du pouvoir qui est en partie la raison de sa nomination place Beauvau en juin 1874 et à nouveau en mai 1877. Parallèlement à cette carrière ministérielle, il poursuit son ancrage local (président de comice agricole, conseiller général) et devient administrateur de la Compagnie de chemin de fer d’Orléans. Fourtou est alors l’une des figures importantes de la droite conservatrice, proche de l’Elysée. Après le Seize-Mai, il poursuit sa carrière politique, malgré la flétrissure et l’invalidation de son élection qui le conduit à se représenter immédiatement et obtenir la confiance de la population. Devenu sénateur, il continue la lutte contre les réformes des opportunistes mais échoue aux différents scrutins nationaux de 1885. A la faveur du boulangisme, il redevient député en 1889 mais propose de jouer la carte de l’apaisement, signe d’une évolution idéologique de l’homme politique. Parlementaire au parcours singulier, il représente, avec d’autres, les interrogations et la recherche identitaire d’une droite française en pleine transformation dans les premières années de la Troisième République. La postérité ne retient, finalement, que la légende noire de l’ancien ministre de l’Intérieur du Seize-Mai<br>Oscar Bardi de Fourtou is involved in french political life as the Man of the Seize-Mai, the Home minister with a very special manner leading with authority and his decisions don’t accept any protest. Commissioned by the marechal Mac-Mahon to lead the fight against republicans, he organized a lot of changes inside the civil servant corps, to help the government restore its power in local position. With the dissolution of the Parliament, he had to prepare the next legislative elections in October 1877 to prevent the victory of republicans. All the legal means were used but under the political pressure of the different components of the Conservative forces which maintain the President policy. The electoral failure of the Conservative forces involved the political responsibility of the former Home minister. His bad reputation came from the winner and also in the Conservative camp, disappointed by his attitude during the crisis not taking strong solutions to resolve it. His political career is lightning. As a lawyer in Riberac, and mayor of his home town, he was elected as Member of Parliament on February 1871. Registered as a member of Right Center, he was chosen by Thiers to be the new Public Work of his government. After the of the President, he was closer to the dynastic Right, and got confidence of the new President Mac-Mahon who decided to give him the Public Education ministry. Therefore, Fourtou represents the authoritarian position of one part of the Conservatives and that’s the reason he changed to the Home ministry in June 1874 and of course, in May 1877.At the same time, he continues his local work and became the Orleans railways Company manager. One of the most important politicians of the French Right, he was closely linked to the Elysee palace. After the Seize-Mai, he carried on his political business, despite the stigmatization of the Parliament, and his invalidation, he was elected again. As senator, he fought against the opportunist reforms but didn’t succeed in the different national elections in 1885. Thanks to the Boulanger crisis, he again became a Member of Parliament in 1889 but wants to promote appeasement, as underlined in evidence in his ideological evolution. As a singular Member of Parliament, he represented a new position, with other colleagues, into the Right movement., especially the search for a new French Right identity during important changes in the first years of the Third Republic. In front of the posterity, with hindsight, he remains a dark legend as the Home minister of the Seize-Mai

OBJECTIUS Conèixer l’efectivitat d’un programa de detecció de Tuberculosi (TB) des d’un Centre d’Atenció Primària (CAP) adreçat a immigrants provinents de països amb taxes d’alta prevalença de la malaltia, majoritàriament en el moment que venen a donar-se d’alta al centre. Comprovar l’adherència al programa, la detecció de TB, de la infecció tuberculosa latent (ITL), i valorar el grau de relació entre la prova de la tuberculina (PT) i les tècniques in vitro d’interferó Gamma Release Assays (IGRA) per a detectar la ITL. PACIENTS I MÈTODES El programa es va dur a terme a l’Àrea Bàsica de Salut (ABS) de la Barceloneta. Es va designar referents a tots els serveis que hi havien d’intervenir (Medicina, Infermeria i Unitat d’Atenció a l’Usuari (UAU) de l’ABS, Servei de Radiologia de l’Hospital del Mar i Laboratori de referència), i es van elaborar algoritmes de treball de cada una de les etapes del cribratge. Es varen incloure de forma majoritària immigrants que venien de països amb alta prevalença de la malaltia (>100/100.000 habitants) que consultaven per donar-se d’alta al CAP, i alguns que feia menys de 5 anys que residien al país. La metodologia incloïa, després del consentiment informat, una enquesta d’arribada, una PT i una radiografia (Rx) de tòrax (amb les excepcions d’embaràs o sospita i de menors de 18 anys). Una de les accions que es van valorar com a molt importants, per aconseguir que les persones finalitzessin el programa va ser realitzar les primeres proves (PT i Rx) en el moment mateix de l’arribada. A aquells que presentaven una Rx alterada o una PT positiva se’ls hi practicava la tècnica tècnica de detecció d’IGRA, i una anàlisi amb serologia d’hepatitis crònica i VIH. Els que presentaven alguna alteració eren derivats a visita amb el metge referent. RESULTATS Un total de 129 persones van entrar finalment al programa, d’aquestes 86 van realitzar totes les proves que se’ls va demanar, completant absolutament l’estudi. A un 64,3 % (83 persones) es va realitzar i llegir la PT. Un total de 32 persones van presentar una PT positiva (un 38,5% de les realitzades i llegides). Es van demanar proves d’IGRA a 34 pacients (32 amb PT + i a 2 amb Rx patològica), i se’n van realitzar 30. De les 30 persones estudiades amb IGRA, en 13 persones (43,3%) la prova va ser positiva. Un 73,9% (91 persones) es van realitzar la Rx de tòrax quan s’havia indicat. Es van trobar tres lesions compatibles amb TB, 7 lesions fibròtiques antigues, i en altres 7 persones es van observar altres alteracions radiològiques. Finalment, es van diagnosticar 3 casos de TB, que van iniciar tractament amb 4 fàrmacs, i que el varen completar, i 7 persones es van considerar candidates a tractament de la ITL (TITL) i totes van acabar la teràpia. En el decurs del programa van detectar-se 2 casos d’Hepatitis C (VHC) un cas de Hipertensió Arterial (HTA) i una miocardiopatia. CONCLUSIONS La realització d’un programa de detecció de TB i ITL dirigit a població immigrant de risc des d’un CAP és possible sense alterar la dinàmica de treball del centre. Les persones referents en cada etapa del cribratge i la rapidesa en realitzar les proves que es demanen són importants per explicar l’adherència al programa, comparada amb altres experiències similars. Els resultats orienten que el programa és efectiu per detectar TB i ITL. La combinació de PPD i IGRA pot ser un bon mètode per decidir a qui realitzar el TITL.<br>AIM The aim of this project is to, firstly detect the cases of tuberculosis (TB) in patients from countries of high TB prevalence, mainly at the time of first registration to their reference general practitioner (GP). Secondly, to monitor the adherence to the program and the detection of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) and, thirdly, to assess the potential correlation between the tuberculin skin test (TST) and the Interferon-Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) to detect LTBI. PATIENTS AND METHODS The program was set up at the public primary health care center of the district area of Barceloneta. First of all, referents were designated in all the health services involved - Medicine, Nursery, Radiology, Reception, and Clinical Laboratory – and clinical algorithms were designed for all screening stages. We included patients from countries of high TB prevalence (>100/100.000), mainly when enrolling to their reference general practitioner (GP), except for a few who had been living in Spanish state for up to 5 years. The working methodology, involved signing an informed consent, filling in an initial questionnaire, and having a TST and a chest radiograph, except for pregnant women or people under 18 years of age. One of the main factors to ensure that the patients completed the program was the performance of both the TST and the chest radiograph at the time of recruitment in the center. In those with an abnormal chest radiograph and/or TST, IGRAs test was performed and were also tested for hepatitis virus C and HIV. The subjects with any abnormal tests were appointed with the reference GP. RESULTS We included a total of 129 patients in our program and 86 completed the protocol. The TST was performed and read in the 64.3% (83 individuals) of cases, obtaining 38.5% (32) positive results. The IGRAs test was proposed to 34 patients, 32 having a positive TST and 2 having a pathologic chest radiograph, obtaining a total of 30 IGRAs results. Of these, in 13 (43.3%) the test was positive. The chest radiograph was performed to the 73.9% (91) of the patients who had been ordered to do this test. We detected 3 patients with lesions compatible with TB, 7 fibrotic lesions, which could indicate previous TB, and 7 other types of radiological abnormalities. We finally diagnosed 3 TB cases, which followed and finished treatment with 4 drugs. Treatment for LTBI was indicated to 7 individuals. We also newly identified two cases co-infected with hepatitis C, one patient having hypertension, and a cardiomyopathy. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates that it is feasible to establish an early TB and LTBI detection program in a primary health care center, directed to those at risk, without interfering with the daily work in the center. Professional referees in every stage of the program and the shortness between the entry and the test performance of the tests, are key points to ensure adherence to the program compared to other studies. Our results suggest that this program is effective to detect both TB and LTBI. The combination between TST and IGRAs could be useful to decide to whom indicate prophylaxis.

Abstract:
The English coastal motor barge (ECMB) was an estuarial vessel with a limited sea-going capacity. It represented a unique line of maritime evolution carrying the small initial capital cost, minimal manning, and low operating costs of the spritsail barge (which had come to dominate lower North Sea cargo carrying under sail) directly into the second half of the 20th century. It avoided transition through the era of the steam engine and the crewing, costs and unionisation associated with it. This thesis is essentially a case study of a distinct class of tonnage. It aims to (a) record the development, growth and decline in use of the ECMB; (b) determine, set down, and quantify, those factors which allowed the ECMB to thrive as a distinct line of maritime development; (c) establish which environmental and financial factors gave rise to growth and success in an era when British - and Western European - shipping generally was in rapid decline; (d) set the extent of ECMB use in the context of (1) UK foreign trade, (2) the 'British' merchant fleet, (3) Continental competition; before much existing, unpublished, documentary evidence is lost for ever. It considers the end of Empire and changing patterns of trade, voyages, cargoes, freight rates, technical change, the cost of money in Britain, UK Inflation, and taxation, but also the contribution of increased regulation and changed UK government attitudes in the recent decline of the ECMB. It suggests that when the operation of the UK National Dock Labour Scheme acted to disadvantage major UK ports in competition with near-Continental rivals in loading and discharging ocean-going vessels, the ECMB had reached a stage of maturity and availability which facilitated the conversion of much UK trade into transhipment traffic moving via Continental ports. On entry of the UK into the EEC, a means of cheap short-sea bulk carriage was available.
