Abstract:
Section 1 of this article discusses the concept of bibliographical control and makes a distinction between this term, “bibliographical description,” and related terms, which are often confused in the literature. It further discusses the function of bibliographical control and criticizes Patrick Wilson’s distinction between “exploitative control” and “descriptive control.” Section 2 presents projects for establishing bibliographic control from the Library of Alexandria to the Internet and Google, and it is found that these projects have often been dominated by a positivist dream to make all information in the world available to everybody. Section 3 discusses the theoretical problems of providing comprehensive coverage and retrieving documents represented in databases and argues that 100% coverage and retrievability is an unobtainable ideal. It is shown that bibliographical control has been taken very seriously in the field of medicine, where knowledge of the most important findings is of utmost importance. In principle, it is equally important in all other domains. The conclusion states that the alternative to a positivist dream of complete bibliographic control is a pragmatic philosophy aiming at optimizing bibliographic control supporting specific activities, perspectives, and interests.

Abstract:
In addition to a list of valid names and synonyms, as provided by the Trichoptera World Checklist, access to the primary literature itself is essential for research in Trichoptera taxonomy and systematics. To improve access to bibliographic information, we established the Trichoptera Literature Database, http://www.trichopteralit.umn.edu, a bibliographic database of over 8,500 citations of literature on Trichoptera. In addition to compiling bibliographical information, we provided access to over 450 high quality Portable Document Format files (PDFs) of historically important, rare, or out-of-print older works as well as more current literature. To provide universal web access to this bibliographical resource, we constructed a dynamic, custom-designed, web application (PHP, Symfony framework) created to import Extensible Markup Language (XML) from the EndNote data file. The database allows the user to search by author and year of publication, displays citations in a standard bibliographic format, and provides download links to available PDF literature. Existing bibliographies of Trichoptera literature and online access to Zoological Record databases were used to accumulate citations. Protocols for scanning literature, issues regarding copyright, and procedures for uploading citations and PDFs to the database are established. We hope to create a collaborative framework of contributors by seeking regional, subject, or language organizers from the community of Trichoptera workers to assist in completing and maintaining this resource with the goal of lowering barriers to efficient access to taxonomic information.

Abstract:
The online searching of databases to retrieve bibliographical information is increasingly becoming common research practice in a wide range of disciplines. For the scholar of African studies there is as yet no single comprehensive database covering the literature from the continent on a multi-disciplinary basis; however there are a number of existing databases which serve as a useful and up-to-date bibliographical tool. The aim of this paper is briefly to outline those currently available databases which are of relevance to African studies and to offer some suggestions as to how this valuable service may best be utilised.Online information retrieval services first became readily available to the public in the early 1970s, chiefly in the area of science and technology.

Abstract:
This paper consists of short reports on three projects which evaluated online chemical hazards services. Two were studies of bibliographical databases and one a study of databanks. Test queries were used in the evaluations. The chemical hazards bibliographic databases studied were HSEline, CISDOC, Laboratory Hazards Bulletin (LHB), Chemical Hazards in Industry (CHI), Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH), Safety Science Abstracts (SSA), EMBASE, BIOSIS, MEDLINE and CASearch. The main conclusion reached was that whilst all the databases included relevant references none provided comprehensive coverage for the test queries. HSEline produced the highest number of relevant references and LHB and CHI also performed well, but most of the other databases were useful for some of the queries. The chemical hazards databanks compared were RTECS (Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances), HSDB (Hazardous Substances Data Bank), OHMTADS (Oil and Hazardous Materials - Technical Assistance Data - system), BAKER, CHRIS (Chemical Hazards Response Information System) and CESARS (Chemical Evaluation Search and Re trieval System). The main conclusions of the evaluation were that HSDB gives the widest subject coverage and has the longest datasheets. Its coverage of animal toxicology is as good as that of RTECS. HSDB is the best source for human toxicity information and has the same amount or more information than BAKER and CHRIS on emergency actions. RTECS concentrates on toxic effects and has little information on physical/chemical properties, manufacture, emergency han dling, chemical reactions or explosive properties. OHMTADS does not contain first aid procedures but gives concise infor mation on other emergency actions. BAKER and CHRIS are useful for substance identification, waste management and emergency spill procedures.

Abstract:
In 1974 the list of bibliographic works on the literature of Canadian art and architecture totalled 14 items, some in typescript. Since then there has been a surge of bibliographical activity including the creation of databases. Canadian art librarians are urged to lobby publishers to develop more precise index terminology and to improve indexing coverage of Canadian art periodical literature. Librarians should use the computer technology now in place to prepare exhibition histories, exhibition catalogue lists and indexes, while retaining their traditional respect for content, for bibliographic standards, and for the experience and specialized knowledge of qualified bibliographers and indexers.

Abstract:
This paper aims to provide a bibliometric analysis of the literature on oral and maxillofacial surgery, comparing different databases and discussing the advantages, disadvantages, and specific features of each one. A bibliographical search for oral and maxillofacial surgery literature was conducted on Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Dimensions, SciELO, LILACS, and Google Scholar. Seven different search strategies were used on each database. VOSViewer and Microsoft Excel were used for tabulation and data visualization. Some statistical tests were performed with a 95% confidence interval, which was considered significant. A table comparing the number of articles obtained during seven different literature searches was created. A correlogram created in RStudio showed the correlation between the number of articles in the different databases evaluated. The functionalities of each database were compared. It is recommended to use more than one database when searching for literature related to surgery. Among the analyzed databases, PubMed stands out for its functionalities, precision, and quantity of available articles.

Abstract:
Abstract In any study of translations one must first decide what is to be counted as a “translation” and how such things are to be found, usually through recourse to bibliographical databases. We propose that, starting from the maximalist view that translations are potentially everywhere, various distribution processes impose a series of selective filters thanks to which some translations are more easily identified and accessible than others. The study of translation must be aware of these prior filters, and must know how to account for them, and sometimes how to overcome them. Research processes then necessarily impose their own selective filters, which may reduce or extend the number and kinds of translations given by prior filters. We present three research projects where the play of prior and research filters is very different. For one-off large-scale relational hypotheses, the Index Translationum is found to be relatively cost-efficient. For more detailed objects such as translation flows from Spanish into French in a specific period, a book-industry database offers significant advantages. And for a study marked by a paucity of texts, as is the case of translation from Korean into English following the Korean War, a combination of databases is necessary, the most useful turning out to be Amazon.

Online searches may be performed in astronomy and astrophysics either by OBJECT or by SUBJECT. Until recently, although object searches could be performed on a variety of databases in the physical sciences, results were poor and incomplete. Only if an object were mentioned by name in the title or abstract could one hope for any hits at all. The greatest blessing to befall the astronomical community was the advent of SIMBAD (Sets of Identifications, Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data), a database in which searches are conducted by OBJECT only. It is produced and accessible from the Centre de Donnees de Strasbourg (CDS), Observatoire Astronomique, and is the result of many years of arduous work by a few dedicated astronomers and computer scientists. It is comprised of the merging of two earlier databases, the Catalog of Stellar Identifications (CSI) and the Bibliographical Star Index (BSI)

Abstract:
Although by the 1970s it was clear that neither funding nor available space in research libraries could cope with the increasing volume and cost of publications, subsequent developments in technology and improvements in international communication networks make access to remote databases technically possible and would seem to put the IFLA/Unesco goal of UAP within reach. But there are some problems to be solved. No existing library provides users with free and unimpeded access to bibliographical information held in remote databases. Also, printed catalogues such as that of the British Library, containing as they do important local information, serve a different purpose from collaborative databases, and both electronic and ‘eye-readable’ bibliographic resources must have a place in research libraries. Databases are much slower to search than printed catalogues, because readers find the system difficult, and enhanced keyword and subject access produces large numbers of records to be browsed; a very large number of terminals is therefore needed to meet demand. Also, records in databases lack the context they have in printed catalogues, complex headings causing particular problems; collaborative databases do not use normalized headings; and input errors can make records irretrievable. Retrospective reconciliation of differences in major catalogues is hardly conceivable. Subject indexing also leaves much to be desired, quite apart from the use of different languages for indexing non-English language books. The rules by which bibliographic files are structured need to be understood, and special expertise is likely to continue to be required for retrieval; the choice lies between educating users and providing a body of interpreters.

Abstract:
Background Sharing knowledge such as resources, research results, and scholarly documents, is of key importance to improving collaboration between researchers worldwide. Research results from the field of artificial intelligence (AI) are vital to share because of the extensive applicability of AI to several other fields of research. This has led to a significant increase in the number of AI publications over the past decade. The metadata of AI publications, including bibliometrics and altmetrics indicators, can be accessed by searching familiar bibliographical databases such as Web of Science (WoS), which enables the impact of research to be evaluated and identify rising researchers and trending topics in the field of AI. Problem description In general, bibliographical databases have two limitations in terms of the type and form of metadata we aim to improve. First, most bibliographical databases, such as WoS, are more concerned with bibliometric indicators and do not offer a wide range of altmetric indicators to complement traditional bibliometric indicators. Second, the traditional format in which data is downloaded from bibliographical databases limits users to keyword-based searches without considering the semantics of the data. Proposed solution To overcome these limitations, we developed a repository, named AI-SPedia. The repository contains semantic knowledge of scientific publications concerned with AI and considers both the bibliometric and altmetric indicators. Moreover, it uses semantic web technology to produce and store data to enable semantic-based searches. Furthermore, we devised related competency questions to be answered by posing smart queries against the AI-SPedia datasets. Results The results revealed that AI-SPedia can evaluate the impact of AI research by exploiting knowledge that is not explicitly mentioned but extracted using the power of semantics. Moreover, a simple analysis was performed based on the answered questions to help make research policy decisions in the AI domain. The end product, AI-SPedia, is considered the first attempt to evaluate the impacts of AI scientific publications using both bibliometric and altmetric indicators and the power of semantic web technology.

Abstract:
Objective: The aim of this study is to synthesize the existing evidence on Goal Directed Perfusion Methods: The search for the existing evidence was made in the MEDLINE databases, using the PubMed search engine. The initial search term was “goal directed perfusion.” In order to narrow the search, MeHS terms such as “cardiac surgery” and “cardiopulmonary bypass” were used together with the initial term and the Boolean operator AND. Results: At first, 238 references were obtained, combined whit “cardiac surgery” there were 49 references and finally whit “cardiopulmonary bypass” 21. We read 23 articles. Levels of oxygen delivery (DO2i) > 272 ml/min/m2, minimize hemodilution an maintain hematocrit values > 26% decrease acute kidney injury. A carbon dioxide production VCO2 i > of 60 ml/min/m2 and DO2i/VCO2i < 5 are predictors of hyperlactatemia. The mixed venous oxygen saturation (SvO2) and the oxygen extraction rate (ERO2) are better predictors of transfusion during extracorporeal circulation than hemoglobin value. The majority of the bibliography refers to adult surgery, but the application of GDP to the pediatric perfusion is beginning. Conclusion: The improvement of “optimal” perfusion, considered the gold standard, towards goal directed perfusion is already in use. Many hospitals are incorporating online monitoring of the new perfusion parameters in order to apply a specific perfusion to each patient as well as his metabolic needs during extracorporeal circulation.

In best library tradition, although it is only so far a proposed system, it is already known by its acronym SASID and that is how I shall refer to it throughout this talk.Although there is obviously a number of existing databases which do serve African research there is a minimal number which have specifically African coverage and certainly none which directly meets our needs in Southern African Studies, especially as most databases are subject rather than country/region orientated.

Online searching services such as Medline services are the most important application of the ficility. (b) Creation of in-house searchable databases, specific examples of which might include the library’s own catalogue, bibliographical indexes, subject information banks and directory type information. For operating the above mentioned subject, librarians need to have skills in using the computer as a tool in library administration using software for statistical computations etc. The following Dbase Program is for Check-in Periodicals in the Small Library with Personal Comuter. Abstract:
IntroductionCommunicable disease epidemics and pandemics magnify the health inequities experienced by marginalised populations. People who use substances suffer from high rates of morbidity and mortality and should be a priority to receive palliative care, yet they encounter many barriers to palliative care access. Given the pre-existing inequities to palliative care access for people with life-limiting illnesses who use substances, it is important to understand the impact of communicable disease epidemics and pandemics such as COVID-19 on this population. Methods and analysisWe will conduct a scoping review and report according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews reporting guidelines. We conducted a comprehensive literature search in seven bibliographical databases from the inception of each database to August 2020. We also performed a grey literature search to identify the publications not indexed in the bibliographical databases. All the searches will be rerun in April 2021 to retrieve recently published information because the COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing at the time of this writing. We will extract the quantitative data using a standardised data extraction form and summarise it using descriptive statistics. Additionally, we will conduct thematic qualitative analyses and present our findings as narrative summaries.Ethics and disseminationEthics approval is not required for a scoping review. We will disseminate our findings to healthcare providers and policymakers through professional networks, digital communications through social media platforms, conference presentations and publication in a scientific journal.

Abstract:
The Netherlands Institute for Art History (RKD) is one of the largest art documentation centres in the world. It maintains collections of millions of reproductions and press clippings, as well as housing a sizeable library of approximately 400,000 books. In the past decade the RKD has begun setting up various automated systems for the management of these collections. The major systems in operation are the automated library with some 30,000 records online and accessible for visitors, a database with bio- and bibliographical information on artists, and the recently initiated image database. Plans for the future include in-house and web access to all databases, continued improvement and expansion of the systems, retrospective conversion of parts of the collections and publication of CD-ROMs.

Abstract:
This article presents bibliography as a field of study. It consists of several traditions, of which enumerative (or “systematic”) bibliography is considered most important in relation to information science, but at the same time tends to be rejected as a scientific or scholarly field by other bibliographical traditions. It is about making, using and evaluating bibliographies, which list all kinds of publications. Analytic, descriptive and textual bibliography are other subfields, which are important for establishing the identity of a given document (is the Hamlet that scholar A is reading the same Hamlet that scholar B is reading?) and for providing critical editions of important works. Historical bibliography (with the sociology of text and book history) is yet another subfield, a very broad one that lacks coherence, but which provides important perspectives on the functions of different kinds of publications. In the UNISIST model, bibliographies are considered secondary kinds of publications (based on primary literature and a prerequisite for tertiary literature). From the Library of Alexandria (c. 285- BC) to Google (and Google Scholar) it has been a utopian dream to establish universal bibliographical control, to make all publications relevant for those needing any special set of them. To optimize visibility and retrievability of documents is an important task for information science, related to the goal of bibliographical control, and to literature- and information searching in bibliographic and full-text databases. A theoretical view on (enumerative) bibliography was suggested by Margaret Egan and Jesse Shera in 1952, in which a new field called “social epistemology” was seen as a “parent” discipline for the study of bibliography. This view is critically examined in this article, and it is suggested that Shera’s 1951 characterization of social epistemology represents a better foundation for bibliography.

Abstract:
The presented review of three reports is devoted to bibliographic databases on health and other effects and indexes in nuclear workers (NW) and uranium miners (U miners), developed within the framework of the research theme of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia (FMBA) and registered with the state in Rospatent. Report 1 sets out introductory issues of the theory of databases, as well as registers, and provides detailed information on the database for NW. The purpose of the database for NW creating was to form a repository for accessible for abstract and full-text search published data on themes relevant for conducting research examinations for expertise in the system of the FMBA, in other healthcare institutions dealing with the radiation factor, and, more broadly, for conducting fundamental and applied research in the field of professional exposures. The main parts of the database are two separate sub-databases for Russian and foreign NW (Russian NW and Foreign NW), in which the sources are collected in alphabetical order by the authors of the publication or the organizations that created the document. The structural form of information is a catalog that includes primary (main) units of information in the form of an information file about the source (DOC), which contains the title of the publication/document, an abstract (sometimes additional information), and the full original publication (PDF, rarely HTML), available for 88–91 % of sources (the Russian and Foreign sub-databases contain 2078 and 2145 sources, respectively, as of the end of January 2025). 51 % of the works in the database correspond to studies for Russian NW; followed by the USA, Great Britain, Canada, France, and Japan. Visual and/or software search of the material in the database it is supposed to be carried out both through the information names of the catalogs, including the themes of research, carried out using the list of abbreviations (metadata for the database), and through all the texts of the sources included in the database using the proposed programs. Auxiliary elements of the database are fragments of two sub-bases that have undergone hierarchical thematic cataloging in accordance with the identified areas of research on the effects and indexes for NW. These elements are intended, firstly, for initial familiarization with the subject of the database for NW, and, secondly, they are significant as a final thematic base with a certain number of sources, which can be used directly for operational purposes. The developed database for NW has no analogues among industry databases/registers for NW in various countries, nor among bibliographic and search systems. PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, CINAHL, ISRCTN, Web of Science and Google revealed 5–24 times fewer sources on the theme than the proposed database, and in most cases the world search systems do not provide for the extraction of original publications (as for the IAEA INIS bibliographic database on radiation effects). The depth of the search for works on effects and indexes for NW in the world systems is significantly inferior to the developed database (1960–1970s versus 1940–1950s). It is concluded that the presented database on NW is unique for examination within the framework of the FMBA and other healthcare institutions, and has no complete replacement as a scientific reference and expert depot of sources.

Abstract:
Bibliography on the quality of the life of patients with chronic wounds in Brazil between 2000 and 2009 is analyzed. A systematic review of the literature was undertaken through a search on studies indexed at BIREME databases. Seven articles, a dissertation and a thesis were obtained; the former, corresponding to 50% of material, were mostly published in 2001 and 2006. Results showed that three articles were published in the online journal Ciencia y Enfermería, online Brazilian Journal of Nursing and The Journal of Nursing of UERJ, with one article each (16.6%). Four articles were published in the Jornal Vascular Brasileiro and in the Journal of Angiology and Vascular Surgery with two article each (33.3%). Taking into consideration the publications’ professional category, 62.5% belonged to the nursing field and 37.5% to the medicine one, all published in the southeastern region of Brazil. Knowledge on the characteristics on life quality of chronic wound patients would produce a change of focus which may establish more attention on one of the most important problems in Brazilian public health.

Abstract:
Bone metastases are the most common and hard-to-treat complication of BC. About 70% of patients with metastatic BC have distant bone relapses during the disease. BC always leads to the death of patients within 5-10 years, and this statistic has not changed in the last 2-3 decades. The work aims to carry out a bibliometric analysis of the interrelationships of BC, processes of biomineralization (calcification), and metastases of BC to bone tissue. The authors searched electronic databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar for the period 1973-2023 using key terms such as "breast cancer," "calcification," and "bone metastases." For bibliometric analysis, an online platform for monitoring and analyzing international scientific research using visualization tools and current citation metrics SciVal (Scopus), and a tool for building and visualizing bibliometric networks VOSviewer, were used. The authors used Scopus database bibliometric tools to analyze the year, source, type of study, subject area, and country of the publication. The VOSviewer system from the University of Leiden (https://www.vosviewer.com/download) was used to generate and visualize the bibliometric network. We found and examined 103 publications in the Scopus database using the keywords "breast cancer," "calcification," and "bone metastases" for the period 1973-2023. The results of the bibliometric analysis indicate that the number of publications on the specified subject has grown significantly (with small fluctuations) over the past 20 years, indicating scientists' interest in the problem and ways to solve it. The complex relationship between pathological biomineralization, breast cancer, and bone metastases is being actively studied by scientists, mainly from the United States of America, Germany, and Italy. Using the tool for building and visualizing bibliometric networks VOSviewer of publication activity for the period 1973-2023 in the researched topics of BC with calcification, we identified four chronological stages, which include: 1) radiological and biochemical research methods, 2) research on the effectiveness of diagnostics and treatment, including .h pathomorphological assessment of pathology, 3) fundamental studies of bone and mineral metabolism, 4) a practically oriented period of research. We also divided the identified publications into six thematic clusters: 1) application of radiological methods, 2) bone and mineral metabolism in conditions of pathology, 3) clinical diagnosis and prediction of the course of related pathology, 4) biomaterials and nanotechnology, 5) chemotherapy of oncopathology and its consequences, 6) fundamental molecular genetic research.

Purpose: This study aims at identifying and analyzing the characteristics of international scientific research that address the literature fragment referring to the Port Performance Evaluation to identify the existence of theoretical alignment of Performance Evaluation notion, as an area of knowledge, with practical area stage, the Port Performance Evaluation.Design/Methodology/Approach: The approach the problem, this paper makes use of qualitative research, since it analyzes the Bibliographical Portfolio characteristics related to the Performance Evaluation Port. The strategy adopted was action research where the authors through their analysis and interpretation made the selection of the Bibliographical Portfolio.Findings: From the analyzed literature fragment it was possible to identify some misalignment between what has been pointed out in the literature regarding the management practices in the port sector. This discrepancy refers to the management practices that are ignored by port managers, which implies the loss of opportunities and may even come to jeopardize the organization's performance.Research limitations/implications: The literature search was restricted to articles written in the English language, published in indexed scientific journals in the selected databases (ii) the restriction by the time limit of articles published after the year 2000; (iii) the generation of knowledge based on the characteristics selected by the researchers and (iv) the analysis of BP articles regarding the by the judgment and interpretation of this research authors. It is suggested for future work the expanding this research to other databases, other languages, other features, and continuity of this investigation with the development of "systemic analysis' and 'identifying research opportunities' stages through ProKnow-C.Originality/value: Although two similar works have been developed in the same area of research in 2015, the results achieved have contributed to the advancement of research Port Performance Evaluation, once extended the time horizon, the databases used for research and variables.

Information on scientific publications of Pushchino Research Center staff is originally seen as an important component of implementing the library information function of the Centralized Library System of the Central Library in Pushchino, which is a department of the Library on Natural Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences (LNS RAS). During the library activity, since 1968, it could distinguish three main periods in creating and developing the information-bibliographic support of users’ publication activity in all research institutes of the Center. The first stage is starting creation of the employees card files, based on which the bibliographical indices of scientists’ publications have been published. The accuracy and completeness of accumulated information has laid an excellent foundation for transition to electronic databases reflecting the researchers’ works of all institutions of the Center. The second stage has shown that in some cases a scientist’s bibliography is incomplete, but ease of information entry about publications and well-chosen software allows revealing all the information about the publication to the reader in a convenient form. The third stage is characterized by emerging new forms of information provision about scientific publications. The copyrights profiles have appeared for identifying standards of the scientific works authorship that allow creating a tool to search and analyze both publication activity of organizations and researchers. But at this stage the problem of creating a complete and reliable scientific bibliography list in scientometric databases has not solved yet.

Abstract:
Since the early 2000s, fuzzy mathematics has fostered a stream of research on the financial valuation of assets incorporating optionality. This paper makes two contributions to this field. First, it conducts a bibliographical analysis of contributions from fuzzy set theory to option pricing, focusing on fuzzy-random option pricing (FROP) and its applications in binomial and trinomial lattice approaches. Second, it extends the FROP to yield curve modeling within a binomial framework. The bibliographical analysis followed the PRISMA guidelines and was conducted via the SCOPUS and WoS databases. We present a structured review of papers on FROP in discrete time (FROPDT), identifying the principal papers and outlets. The findings reveal that this focus has been applied to price options on stocks, stock indices, and real options. However, the exploration of its application to the term structure of interest-sensitive interest rate assets is very rare. To address this gap, we develop a fuzzy-random extension of the Ho–Lee term structure model, applying it to the European interbank market and price caplet options.

Abstract:
Abstract. Since 1990, we have maintained a database of historical information on landslides and floods in Italy, known as the National Research Council's AVI (Damaged Urban Areas) archive. The database was originally designed to respond to a request of the Minister of Civil Protection, and was aimed at helping the regional assessment of landslide and flood risk in Italy. The database was compiled in 1991-1992 to cover the period 1917 to 1990, and then updated to cover systematically the period 1917 to 2000, and non-systematically the periods 1900 to 1916 and 2001 to 2002. The database currently contains information on more than 32000 landslide events occurred at more than 21000 sites, and on more than 29000 flood events occurred at more than 14000 sites. Independently from the AVI archive, we have obtained other databases containing information on damage caused by mass movements and inundations, daily discharge measurements and solid-transport measurements at selected gauging stations, bibliographical and reference information on landslides and inundations, and a catalogue of National legislation on hydrological and geological hazards and risk in Italy. The databases are part of an information system known as SICI (an Italian acronym for Sistema Informativo sulle Catastrofi Idrogeologiche, Information System on Hydrological and Geomorphological Catastrophes), which is currently the largest single repository of historical information on landslides and floods in Italy. After an outline of the history and evolution of the AVI Project archive, we present and discuss: (a) the structure of the SICI information system, including the hardware and software solutions adopted to maintain, manage, update, use and disseminate the information stored in the various databases, (b) the type and amount of information stored in each database, including an estimate of their completeness, and (c) examples of recent applications of the information system, including a web-based GIS system to show the location of sites historically affected by landslides and floods, and an estimate of geo-hydrological (i.e. landslide and flood) risk in Italy based on the available historical information.

Abstract:
This study aimed to analyze ten publications that portray the application of artificial intelligence in material storage. The conceptual bibliographic method was used in its four stages: a) formulation of primary and accessory research questions, b) data collection in scientific databases, c) analysis and organization of the collected data, and d) generation and interpretation of the answers to the formulated research questions. The results showed that the goals of the studies focused on problematic situations that can be considered complex, the methods of the studies consisted of numerous techniques and procedures, the artificial intelligence tools applied in the studies were varied and in large quantity, and the results and conclusions of the studies show that artificial intelligence is a technology that can effectively solve problems and help to overcome storage challenges. The conclusion points out that the more complex the problem or challenge to be faced, the greater the effectiveness of artificial intelligence in solving or helping to overcome it. The study's main contribution to science highlights the need for logistics and storage professionals to know and know how to apply artificial intelligence in logistics practice.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to assess the state of reference publishing between 2003 and 2013 in print, online databases (free access and fee-based) and Internet sites for the field of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) studies. Background data on trends in non-reference monographic publishing and the growth of topical websites covering LGBT-related subjects are provided. Design/methodology/approach – The WorldCat bibliographical database was scanned for titles published during the decade 2003-2013 to ascertain trends in subject monographs within LGBT studies. The status of the pool of LGBT websites reviewed by the author in 2005 for Choice was checked to evaluate the stability of this expanding format of LGBT information. Those reference works and online resources identified were annotated and placed in the context of general LGBT reference publishing. Findings – Results of the study showed that the genres of encyclopaedias and handbooks continued to be produced for LGBT studies during the first decade of the twenty-first century. The creation of a database of full-text primary materials (ranging from newspapers and academic periodicals to research monographs) marks the recognition by the research community of the value of this body of formerly marginalized literature. The stability of the group of subject websites produced on LGBT topics delineated by the author in 2005 indicates that these resources can be effectively used in the reference process. Originality/value – The data in this article will assist librarians engaged in collection development and reference work by providing a contemporary analysis and bibliographic overview of the sources and types of reference tools in a new interdisciplinary field.

Abstract:
An important tool in the solution of a task of the socio-economical development can be bibliographical databases, which are necessary to collection and systematization of the large amounts of heterogeneous information. The efficiency of such tools in application to the development of river tourism in Russia is considered. With the search engine of «Scientific electronic library» it is established that the number of the thematically relevant works published during five years is high. The attention is paid to river tourism in the Volga River basin and the river systems of the other territories. The analyzed sources are assigned to twelve themes grouped into three clusters. The interpretation of the obtained results shows that the bibliographical databases are important as to the only establishment of the scientific potential of the socio-economical tasks, as to the finding of the important directions of the relevant activity.

Dufault, Olivier. "The Alleged Crisis of Classics and the Engagement with Theory in Ancient Mediterranean Studies: A Statistical Analysis of L'Année philologique." Mouseion 19, no. 3 (2023): 268–96. http://dx.doi.org/10.3138/mous.19.3.03.

Abstract:
In “Who Killed Homer?” Victor Davis Hanson and John Heath identify approaches and theories borrowed from gender and postcolonial studies as the cause of the alleged “crisis” of classics. However, L'Année philologique, the most comprehensive bibliographical database dealing with ancient Mediterranean studies and classics, shows that there are no reasons to speak of a crisis as far as the volume of publications in ancient Mediterranean studies is concerned. It also demonstrates that the relative number of publications in large research areas has remained roughly the same for the last hundred years. Against anecdotal evidence suggesting that gender and postcolonial studies have affected the methods and objectives of ancient Mediterranean studies, a comparison of L'Année philologique with other databases suggests that scholars in the field have one of the lowest rates of engagement with “theory” in the humanities (here represented by concepts and authors typical of gender studies, postcolonial studies, anthropology, sociology, the Frankfurt school, and psychoanalysis).
