Abstract:
The Fincastle site (DlOx-5) is located in Southern Alberta, Canada. Excavations from 2004-2007 unearthed a significant number of lithic artefacts, fire-broken rock and a dense bone bed. Radiocarbon dates (ca. 2500 BP) place the single occupancy kill site in the Late Middle Prehistoric Period. This thesis investigates the butchering activities that took place in the East Block of the site, where 60,000 bone fragments were collected. Of these faunal remains, 5,540 records were processed and examined using Brumley’s (1991) Bone Unit (BU) analysis scheme. They were then assigned to a Bone Unit But

Coastal and estuarine environments are popular sites for human settlement, yet they are among the most vulnerable to changing climate and extreme weather events such as rising sea level and storm surges. Storm surge barriers have been installed in numerous estuaries around the world to mitigate flooding risk. Future development of this profit- driven industry to meet the needs of a rapid growing population is dependent on the improved efficiency and sustainability of feeding methods. Wet diets of whole fish and cephalopods are often fed to broodstock, however, they are abundant in long-chain highly unsaturated fatty acids and high rancidity making them prone to

Deoxygenation events within the Swan-Canning Estuary are a severe and potentially lethal threat to the resident aquatic fauna and an ongoing concern for management. Hypoxic conditions develop in the upper estuary following heavy rainfall events that deliver an influx of freshwater into the system, stratifying the water column. When tidally driven seawater and freshwater discharge meet, haloclines are formed, creating a barrier to vertical mixing. Organisms living within the stratified bottom waters can rapidly deplete oxygen reserves, eventually causing the lower layers to become hypoxic. The
