Abstract NQR spectroscopy was used to study the intercalating influence on the iodine electric field gradient of lead(ll) and cadmium(ll) iodides. We used pyridine, piperidine, aniline and quinoline, as guest substances. In the intercalates the NQR frequencies and their dependence on temperature in different crystalline phases were studied. The peculiarities of chemical bonds and crystal structures were discussed.

Abstract A screening method for determination of cadmium, lead, and copper in foods was developed. The sample (1-3 g) is digested with HN03- H2S04-HCI04 in a centrifuge tube attached to a straight glass tube that prevents loss of HN03 by volatilization. After digestion, potassium iodide, H2S04, and MIBK (4-methyl 2-pentanone) are added, and the metals are extracted with MIBK as metal iodides. The MIBK solution is injected and the metals are determined by flame polarized Zeeman atomic absorption spectrometry using a discrete nebulization technique. Abstract Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging provides cross-sectional images of single photon-emitting radiotracer distribution. In such tracers, one or more photons are emitted during the nuclear decay. A gamma camera is used to acquire the data. Traditionally, a gamma camera uses a lead collimator, a sheet of sodium iodide (NaI) scintillator, and an array of photomultiplier tubes. Recently, dedicated cardiac gamma cameras have been designed that use the semiconductor material cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) in place of NaI and photomultiplier tubes. In contrast to SPECT,

In case of a severe accident in a light water reactor, iodine is one of the most important fission products in the context of reactor safety because of its significant total fuel inventory, high specific activity and radiotoxicity. Consequently, understanding its behavior under severe accident transient conditions is a major point in the optimization of the accident management and mitigation. An experimental study has been launched at VTT investigating the behavior of iodine on primary circuit surfaces during a severe nuclear accident.
