Abstract:

Crews, Janna Margarette. "Principles and methodology for computer-assisted instruction (CAI) design." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/280509.

Full text
Abstract:
As the role of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) rapidly expands in the educational and training efforts of all types of organizations, the need for well-designed, learner-centered CAI continues to grow. The CAI design principles and methodology proposed herein provide systems designers with a framework for designing effective, learner-centered CAI systems that support learning with information technologies. Implementing the framework should lead to CAI that better supports learners in the development of their mental schemas, and ultimately, in achieving their learning objectives. The primary goals of this research are two-fold. First, derive a theoretically and empirically-based set of CAI design principles directed at purposefully exploiting the unique capabilities of information technology to help learners develop their mental schemas. Second, codify a methodology for implementing these principles in the systems analysis and design process. Both goals are accomplished as follows. First, a literature review was undertaken to uncover features important for designing CAI to improve learning. Concurrently, the design features and functionality of several existing CAI were reviewed. A field study of one distinctive CAI was conducted to investigate and substantiate its effectiveness. Results indicated that learners using the CAI improved their achievement significantly more than learners who did not use the CAI. Moreover, learners attributed their improved performance to using the CAI. Based on the literature review, review of existing CAI, and the results of the field study, a set of principles and a methodology for designing CAI were derived. The design principles and methodology focus the CAI design process on supporting learners' development of their mental schemas. Finally, we designed, developed and implemented a prototype web based, multimedia training system in accordance with the proposed CAI design principles. As a partial instantiation of the proposed principles and methodology, this prototype CAI provides a proof-of-concept. The design and effectiveness of the prototype CAI has been tested in a series of experiments. The corroborating evidence from these studies indicates that the prototype CAI is well-designed, usable, and an effective training tool. The demonstrated success of the prototype provides evidence of the merits of the proposed principles and methodology.

Marangoni, Melissa. "InterpreToolkit: le specifiche di un software per interpreti professionisti e in formazione." Master's thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2021. http://amslaurea.unibo.it/24883/.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
Expert opinion has been, and still is, of undoubted assistance in the investigation of crime and the administration of criminal justice. It has also been the cause of a number of celebrated miscarriages of justice. Technological advances and greater investment in forensic science resources in the latter half of the 20 century meant that forensic science could be applied to many more cases than ever before. It also meant that forensic scientists had to meet new challenges in the way they formed and expressed opinions about their findings. The creation of a commercial market for forensic science in the 1990s in England and Wales put additional pressures on suppliers to provide value-for-money for their customers. In an attempt to satisfy the potentially conflicting demands of providing robust, reliable opinion and of giving value-for-money, a novel process called Case Assessment and Interpretation (CAI), based on the underlying logic of Bayes Theorem and the use of likelihood ratios, was proposed in 1998 as a model of good practice in forensic science. Over the course of the next 12 years, the model process was applied to most main-stream forensic science disciplines and, as a result, the ideas were refined and fresh insights on the nature of expertise were gained. This thesis describes the background to the initial development of the CAI model, sets out subsequent improvements, demonstrates how the model may have helped avoid misleading opinion being given and considers the current status of CAI. The conclusion of the thesis is that assessment of likelihood ratios, within the framework of the Case Assessment and Interpretation model, does provide a philosophical, yet practical, means of delivering robust, reliable opinion and value-for-money.

Tongroon, Manida. "Combustion characteristics and in-cylinder process of CAI combustion with alcohol fuels." Thesis, Brunel University, 2010. http://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/4501.

Full text
Abstract:
Controlled auto-ignition (CAI) combustion in the gasoline engine has been extensively studied in the last several years due to its potential for simultaneous improvement in fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. At the same time, there has been increasing interest in the use of alternative fuels in order to reduce reliance on conventional fossil fuels. Therefore, this study has been carried out to investigate the effect of alcohol fuels on the combustion characteristics and in-cylinder processes of CAI combustion in a single cylinder gasoline engine. In order to study the effect of alcohol fuels, combustion characteristics were investigated by heat releases analysis in the first part. The combustion process was studied through flame structure and excited molecule by chemiluminescence imaging. Furthermore, in-cylinder gas composition was analysis by GC-MS to identify the auto-ignition reactions involved in the CAI combustion. In addition, the influence of spark-assisted ignition and injection timings were also studied. Alcohol fuels, in particular methanol, resulted in advanced auto-ignition and faster combustion than that of gasoline. In addition, their use could lead to substantially lower HC, NOX and CO exhaust emissions. Spark-assisted ignition assisted gasoline combustion by advancing ignition timing and initiating flame kernel at the centre of combustion chamber but it had marginal effect on alcohol fuels. Auto-ignition always took place at the perimeter of the chamber and occurred earlier with alcohol fuels. Fuel reforming reactions during the NVO period were observed and they had significant effect on alcohol combustion.

Milovanović, Nebojša. "A study of controlled auto ignition (CAI) combustion in internal combustion engines." Thesis, Loughborough University, 2003. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/19906.

Full text
Abstract:
Controlled Auto Ignition (CAI) combustion is a new combustion principle in internal combustion engines which has in recent years attracted increased attention. In CAI combustion, which combines features of spark ignition (SI) and compression ignition (CI) principles, air/fuel mixture is premixed, as in SI combustion and auto-ignited by piston compression as in CI combustion. Ignition is provided in multiple points, and thus the charge gives a simultaneous energy release. This results in uniform and simultaneous auto-ignition and chemical reaction throughout the whole charge without flame propagation. CAI combustion is controlled by the chemical kinetics of air/fuel mixture with no influence of turbulence. The CAI engine offers benefits in comparison to spark ignited and compression ignited engines in higher efficiency due to elimination of throttling losses at part and idle loads. There is a possibility to use high compression ratios since it is not knock limited, and in significant lower NOx emission (≈90%) and particle matter emission (≈50%), due to much lower combustion temperature and elimination of fuel rich zones. However, there are several disadvantages of the CAI engine that limits its practical application, such as high level of hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions, high peak pressures, high rates of heat release, reduced power per displacement and difficulties in starting and controlling the engine. Controlling the operation over a wide range of loads and speeds is probably the major difficulty facing CAI engines. Controlling is actually two-components as it consists of auto-ignition phasing and controlling the rates of heat release. As CAI combustion is controlled by chemical kinetics of air/fuel mixture, the auto-ignition timing and heat release rate are determined by the charge properties such as temperature, composition and pressure. Therefore, changes in engine operational parameters or in types of fuel, results in changing of the charge properties. Hence, the auto-ignition timing and the rate of heat release. The Thesis investigates a controlled auto-ignition (CAI) combustion in internal combustion engines suitable for transport applications. The CAI engine environment is simulated by using a single-zone, homogeneous reactor model with a time variable volume according to the slider-crank relationship. The model uses detailed chemical kinetics and distributed heat transfer losses according to Woschini's correlation [1]. The fundamentals of chemical kinetics, and their relationship with combustion related problems are presented. The phenomenology and principles of auto-ignition process itself and its characteristics in CAI combustion are explained. The simulation model for representing CAI engine environment is established and calibrated with respect to the experimental data. The influences of fuel composition on the auto-ignition timing and the rate of heat release in a CAI engine are investigated. The effects of engine parameters on CAI combustion in different engine concepts fuelled with various fuels are analysed. The effects of internal gas recirculation (IEGR) in controlling the auto-ignition timing and the heat release rate in a CAI engine fuelled with different fuels are investigated. The effects of variable valve timings strategy on gas exchange process in CAI engine fuelled with commercial gasoline (95RON) are analysed.

楊賀凱. "A Case-Based Tutorical CAI System." Thesis, 1994. http://ndltd.ncl.edu.tw/handle/41214304812929837675.

Full text
Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣師範大學<br>資訊教育研究所<br>82<br>As to the domestic development of computer - assisted instruction (CAI), the tutorial is the primary mode of CAI. Lessons are directly computerized into the tutorial program. A tutorial program is not like the drill & practice program which only helps a student refine performace. It is able to teach a student to learn something new. Besides, as far as the program control strategy is concerned, tutorials are divided into two models: linear and branching. The linear model is the simplest way to design the courseware. The instructional materials are arranged into small units. The student must master the current unit and anwer at least a question before proceeding to the next. The sequence of instruction in the linear model is determined by the programmer. By following the sequence, the student accomlishes the learning. The branching model provides flexibility to randomly access lesson units or to make multiple choices. The sequence of instruction is determined by the studetn's performance or choice. That is, branching may occur based on the student's reaction to the tutorial program. This study proposes a tutorial model called case - based tutorial which incorporates the concepts of a AI technique case - based planning for representing the curriculum of a CAI system. The curriculum is the domain of mathematic equations (linear equations and quadratic equations). The following are some characteristics of CBT (Case - Based Tutorial): 1. CBT regards a student's needs as a case. Instruction is conducted according to a certain plan. Thus, learning and instruction are individualized. CBT provides appropriate course units and the sequence of instruction for the student by a plan. 2. CBT possesses the ability to modify instructional plans. Consequently, students are not limited to receive programmed plans. 3. The program control unit and instructional materials are two separated portions. That makes the instructional materials changeable in order to meet special groups of students. 4. The object - oriented curriculum representation can facilitate the planning process of CBT. And the tutor may use the object - oriented curriculum representation to estalish effective organization of instructional mater ials. CBT regards a student's needs as a case. It arranges an appropriate plan to teach the student. The design of the case - based tutorial focus on the retrieval of plans from the case base, the modification of plans, and the curriculum representation. In order to realize student attitude on using the system, there were 30 second graders at the junior high schools selected as subjects. Most of the subjects liked the tutorial method of CBT. The most obvious weakness is that the presentation of course content is not so colorful and active because that the expert system language adopted in this study lacks some functions of designing the graphic user interface. Anyway, the new program control strategy provides a idea of designing a CAI system.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立中央大學<br>中國文學研究所<br>99<br>Cai Xiang''s Style name was Junmo, and his posthumous name was Zhonghuei. Cai Xiang (1012–1067) was a respectable patriot, an innovative and people-loved official, and a poet in the Song Dynasty. Cai Xiang had the reputation with his contemporaries, Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Mi Fu, as the greatest four calligrapher and he was named the best at that time. He had collected works of poems which is about four hundred thousand words left in this day, where we can find his outstanding in literature, knowledge in bridge architecture and botanical, and political talent as a Duanmingdian Xueshi (secretariat Drafter of Duanming Court ).In this paper, we will focus on the study of poetry, trying to explore Cai Xiang’s literature values and meaning in terms of the view of cultural geography. There are five chapters. In the first chapter, we will introduce our purpose of study, and then we would jump from the stereotype of the greatest four in the Song Dynasty to further discuss Cai Xiang’s intelligence, FuJian background, and historical status. We will also discuss the structure, source, and method in this paper. In the second chapter, we will divided it into three parts to express Cai Xiang’s background and literature activities in terms of politics, society, economy, and religion in the beginning of Song Dynasty. In the third chapter, we will give an analysis of how Cai Xiang’s personality and his poetry works get involved with Confucian ideology, Taoism, and Buddhism. Junmo’s poetry and his zeitgeist not only a reflection of a charm of northern Song Dynasty, but a tradition of long Chinese history. In the fourth chapter, We will try to explain the culture of FuJian from Cai Xiang’s poetry based on point of view of regional literature and culture. There are four main points which are the scenery of FuJian, the life of tea tasting, the combination of literature and calligraphy, and culture inheritance. In this way, we would discover the material civilization and spiritual progress of Song Dynasty had reached a certain height at that time. In the final chapter, we will conclude the study. Besides the singing and longing for the good old times, Cai Xiang’s peotry reflects the interaction between people and the community, expressing the subjects such as academic, religion, art, and economy. Cai Xiang had also treated living with lute-playing, chess, calligraphy, painting, poem, wine, tea, and flower as a graceful symbol of ideal life style. From this point, we can see how rich Cai Xiang’s poetry could be in all times.

Abstract:
Computers are excellent tools and assistants in foundation-phase classrooms. Computer-assisted instruction (CAI) influences the way teachers teach, as well as the way learners learn with regard to the curriculum. The responsibility for providing foundation phase-learners with educationally appropriate computer experiences in literacy, numeracy and life skills rests with the educators because the learners' progress in learning depends on the skills, attitudes and ingenuity of the educators, and the software they select for the learners. Educators should have the vision, the knowledge and the experience to introduce and apply CAI to benefit every learner in the didactic situation. Educators' general lack of knowledge and skills in this area has necessitated the compilation of didactic guidelines. The guidelines emerged from the literature that was consulted for this study. These guidelines should assist educators in providing successful CAI for learners.<br>Educational Studies<br>M.Ed.

Lau, Wing-Hong. "Cai Tingkai - the national hero from Lingnan." Thesis, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/17555.

Full text
Abstract:
On 28th January 1932, Cai Tingkai ([Chinese Characters]) (1892-1968), and Jiang Guangnai ([Chinese Characters]) (1888-1967) led the Chinese 19th Route Army to fight the Japanese in Shanghai for 33 days and became instant household names among the Chinese. The battle was known as the 1.28 Incident. Lloyd Eastman in 1974 pointed out that historians from then onwards would have difficulties in deciding who is the greater among the two. In the thesis I shall argue that Cai Tingkai is a military hero comparable to Yue Fei ([Chinese Characters]) (1103-1142). My thesis will explicate why, on the heel of patriotism and regionalism Cai became a national hero in the 1930s. In China, military hero often belongs to a period of unrest and warfare, whose single-minded sincerity and faith in his cause will not allow him to escape and compromise in face of a challenge. His courage, sense of destiny and duty guide him forward, but he is tied to the losing side that will eventually doom him. In 1932 Cai took the cause so common among heroes: in practical term the struggle has been futile, and in many instances, even counter-productive. Cai lived in a period when the old social order had disintegrated. It was a good opportunity for regionalism to manifest itself: the North was China's traditional political center of authority and orthodoxy, but in the 1930s the South generated a current to challenge it. Unknown to Cai, he was a participant as well as a creator of that historical current. Cai discarded his Guomindang (GMD) ([Chinese Characters]) identity in November 1933, but he never was a Communist. Because he was a non-conformist in the GMD, his historical position as a national hero has been undeservedly played down by the Nanjing regime. Also, because of his former GMD identity, for political reasons, he is unlikely to be remembered as a national hero in Mainland China. The purpose of this thesis is to put Cai back to the right place in the annuals of history.<br>Arts, Faculty of<br>History, Department of<br>Graduate

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立中興大學<br>台灣文學研究所<br>97<br>Cai Qiu-Tong(1900-1984) was born at Five Penny Village, Yuan Chung Hsieh, Yuen Lin Hisen. His stories were written in Taiwanese during Japanese conquered Taiwan. He is one of the novelists who interpreted deeply the relationship between land and farmers. He clearly understood farmers’ working lives and described the people, things via his compositions which were filled with the local stuffs. He was a Pau Ching (village major) who could grasp the details of society, the culture, customs and religion. He could put them in writing for the things he saw and show how hard Taiwanese were facing Japanese colonization. Since they are not listed as the official history; however, they are more clear than history, which allows people to get the clear picture of Taiwanese village under Japanese control. In this essay except the first and last chapter it probed into the inner conflict of intellectuals under colonial regime via chapter two, the life and writing background of Cai Qiu-Tong. In addition to few of intellectuals, capitalists, asset owners, most characters were policemen, Pau Ching (village major) and tons of common persons who he was familiar with. He observed deeply and described these greedy, exaggerate and stupid people to reflect their less knowledge and no national consciousness. In chapter 3, I analyzed how Cai Qiu-Tong to specify these people with special writing style. In chapter 4, it reflected the multi-language features via his black humor, extra and local style works. Chapter 5 focused on the major sense of his work. It recorded the real farmers’ life. And at the same time it criticized to the modernized colony and promoted the local education, broke people’s superstition to enlighten people’s intelligence in Cai Qiu-Tong’s works Cai Qui-Tong bore the multi-positions. He was a farmer, writer, Pau-Ching, legislator and major of city after war. He actively attended the literary activities and organized literary magazines. His works deeply impressed people’s due to his special positions which were different from the other writers. Cai Qui-Tong recorded farmers’ live through his practical and actual participation in society. He brought up how colony regime treated the colony via exploiting and squeezing. At the same time he made an irony mood to describe how the policemen oppressed people and how Pau Ching made a fun. He used the broken heart, irony method to judge those intellectuals who were so sad to convince the nationality culture. He played an important role via his special people description of writing in Taiwanese literature during the Japanese Colonial Period. Lin Ya Chin even recognized Cai Qiu-Tong’s works as “Taiwanese Oral literature” or “Taiwan Oral Novel to respect the special writing style of Cai Qui-Tong”

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立交通大學<br>資訊科學學系<br>82<br>In the field of CAI, the system''s capability to adapt tutoring processes to individual student is very limited, and hence those instructional systems have been inadequate to provide robust and rich learning environments. Starting in the 1970s, Intelligent CAI(ICAI) systems were discussed in order to overcome the limitation of traditional CAIs by imposing Artificial Intelligence(AI) principles and techniques on conventional approaches. The ICAI system can instruct students in an intelligent way, and bring more interactivity and flexibility to tutoring domains. In our work, it is desired to develop an ICAI system on the domain of a senior high school course about Chemistry, which could provide a flexible learning environment to assist in instructional activities. In our system development, it not only focuses on the design of user interfaces and subject materials, but also pays attention to the analysis of personalities. By analyzing the personal characteristics, the system is able to present more flexible and personalized tutoring processes for various students. In this thesis, we shall propose a theoretical framework based upon Expert System principles and some methodologies for the development and construction of the ICAI system.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立彰化師範大學<br>工業教育學系<br>85<br>Abstract Enhancing the human ability to obtain knowledge and skills is the essence of education and training. With the advancement of personal computer technology, multimedia CAL has matured. However, the level that the education system in reaching this goal is not parallel to the opportunities available from modern technology. In this thesis, the author develops a multimedia CAL in Robotics using VB and other editing software to edit the video images, graphics, animation, sounds and hypertext media. In addition, the relations between multimedia CAL and engineeringcourse are discussed and find the possibility to develop the multimedia CAL. The multimedia CAL software system is based on the hypertext, the competence-based vocational education theory, and presented in the forms of tutorial, simulation, drilland practice. The software is interactive which includes a self-learning program, a self- testing program, and a manipulator simulation program. An expert facet face panel discussion was held to evaluate this software. According to the experts' opinions, the software has the following strengths: (1) its content is correcand educational. (2) its goal is clear and is appropriate for the learner. (3) its comfortable graphics/colors/sounds can maintain learners' motivation and presents data effectively. (4) it is easy to use by the learners without help. (5) it exploithardware' advantages. (6) its users guide is effective. (7) it improves the learningeffectiveness in Robotics. In this research, the conclusion is drawn as follows: 1. It is flexible and easy to develop multimedia CAL software by using VB.2. The multimedia presentation should apply an integrated format of media in order to increase the compatibility. 3. It will be more convenient and easy to add, delete, modify data if we use the 'openfile method' to load data in design phase.4. The multimedia database should be built to help in creating multimedia CAL software.

碩士<br>國立交通大學<br>資訊工程學系<br>86<br>To create a physics CAI, it takes lots of efforts and uses a variety ofspecialists, including scenario expert, project designer and programmer, etc.The requirement elicitation problems may happen during the communication among the experts. Thus, the quality and productivity of the software is difficult to achieve. Hence, to develop a case tool for creating a physics CAI must be conducted. Our objective is to provide an visual development environment whichsupports the development of a physics CAI ,i.e., to design a script language for describing physics CAI scenario, and to design a visual authoring system for physics CAI. Users can easily organize various media through this development environment and describe physics CAI scenarios in a visual style. With the aidof this visual development environment, users can easily produce a physics CAI lesson. The script language is a scene-based language and supportsfeatures such as making the effect of animation, synchronous for text andvoice, and the interaction with the users.

碩士<br>國立交通大學<br>資訊工程學系<br>86<br>The object-oriented application framework technology plays an important role in contemporary software development. Frameworksare reusable, extensible, and modular, so it can reduce the cost and improve the quality of software. So far, there are few CAI tools available for physics CAI education. We try to use framework technology to design and implement an adaptive framework for physics CAI tools. In this research, we attempt to develop a domain-specific framework for physics CAI representation system. With the designed physics CAI framework, one can quickly implement the physics CAI courses or lessons. The designed physics CAI framework can also be extended to incorporate other features for complicated course demonstrations. Examples are shown to demonstrate the applicability and feasibility of the designed physics CAI framework.
