The transformation of an initially uniform population of epiblast cells into an intricately complex central nervous system (CNS) is one of the most fascinating processes during embryonic development. Presumptive neural cells are initially specified as cells of forebrain character. Studies in various vertebrates have indicated that cells of more caudal neural character, that will generate the brain stem and spinal cord, are generated through the reprogramming of these initial rostral cells. The initial regionalization of these neural progenitor cells is central to all further diversification of

Remyelination describes the regeneration of myelin sheaths, and is considered one of the most promising strategies for improving the prognosis of demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis. Data from animal models and human studies have shown that remyelination can occur extensively in the central nervous system (CNS), leading to functional recovery and axonal protection. However, remyelination does not always proceed to completion, and its failure is associated with progressive neurological disability. Here, astrocytes function in signal transmission was modeled using ex-vivo models purified from adult rat brain, named gliosomes.
