Abstract:
Comparative history which intellectually emerged at the end of the 18th century, is a method of explaining, analyzing and interpreting the similarities or the differences which are put forth as a result of comparing the various historical units. The purposes of the method are; to reveal the subjects which can not be performed without comparison, to make generalizations with obtained data from comparison of individual events, to give broader perspective to historians. While reaching the aim the temporal/spatial/social etc. features should be considered. This article reveals general features to be considered in the comparative history and then discusses the mistakes in using this method and critics about these mistakes.

AbstractThis article argues that Simeon's insistence on the value of explicit comparison within individual studies of public policy needs to remain central even in historical institutionalist approaches which “take time seriously” and focus on causal mechanisms—a methodological injunction sometimes seen to augur in favour of single-case and single-outcome studies. However, if Simeon's suggested approach is to reflect the major advances that have occurred since he wrote, it will require more fully and more explicitly combining the power of the comparative method with the powerful insights generated by a logic of intertemporal causal mechanisms unfolding over time.

Abstract This paper discusses the issue of the specificities of the relationship of the comparative and the historical methods in the research of political history. We find examples of the relationship of the comparative and the historical methods in the research of political history in works of modern historiography. Contemporary political history studies various forms of political reality, a variety of themes and those subject to fad, like other branches of history. The analysis has shown that all general scientific methods, particularly the historical method, as well as the comparative method, enable the scientific cognition of social, historical and political phenomena and processes, which also applies to the research of political history.

Abstract:
The article examines the main directions of improving the methodology of comparative history of law in the context of comparative legal science. It is proved that the comparative historical approach includes a basic comparative historical method, and taking about the principles of interdisciplinary, it can integrate the methodological capabilities of those tools that are used in other areas of scientific knowledge. It is found that the comparative historical method integrates the existing ways, methods and techniques of comparative knowledge of all forms of reflection of historical and legal reality. It is revealed that the use of a comparative historical approach and method in the area of comparative history of law allows us to learn the general, special and unique in the historical and legal development of diverse manifestations and forms of reflection of historical and legal reality in relation to various "non-legal" phenomena. It is proved that such knowledge is based on the integration of subject knowledge and the plurality of their understanding. It is found that the comparative-historical approach can attract the possibilities of methodological approaches used in the Humanities and social Sciences and adapted to the knowledge of legal reality (anthropological, humanistic, civilization). In the comparative history of law area, they «aim» at the scientific study of historical and legal reality, and the comparative-historical approach integrates the acquired knowledge for the purpose of comparative research of the historical and legal development of its manifestations and forms of reflection. It is established that the comparative-historical approach not only integrates this knowledge, but also "processes" it in the comparative perspective of knowledge. It is proved that it becomes possible to receive and accumulate substantive knowledge about the historical dynamics of human and civil rights and freedoms, the legal status of various sectors of the population in any spatial geographical scope with the variety of their forms reflect, subject to the identification of common and different", "equal and opposite"; it becomes possible to clarify the common and different», «equal and opposite to the historical development of "human right" in different societies. It is proved that the comparative historical approach based on the recognition of the equivalence of the "legal values" of all civilizations and the fact that any civilization can not be considered as an ideal model, searches for and integrates the common and different", "identical and opposite", "common and different", "confrontational-dangerous", "sensational, explosive", that caused in history the non-perception and rejection of the "legal values" of other civilizations. Key words: legal science, comparative history of law, methodology, comparative historical approach, historical-legal reality.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the process of evolution of the comparative law methodology from classical approaches of using the historical and comparative method to the principles of modern postnonclassical science. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the development of the comparative law methodology at different stages in the national legal doctrine. In the course of the research, methods of synchronous and diachronic comparison were used, which made it possible to evaluate doctrinal approaches to the methodology of comparative legal research. The appeal to the historical aspects of the problem caused the use of the historical method. The method of analysis was used to study scientific papers on the comparative law methodology. As a result of the conducted research, it became possible to identify the features of the development of the comparative law methodology at different historical stages, depending on the evolution of the prevailing scientific paradigm. The process of developing the comparative historical method into a full-fledged scientific direction within the framework of legal science is shown. It is concluded that in the conditions of postnonclassical scientific rationality, comparative law becomes interdisciplinary, it is characterized by an emphasis on the anthropological component of legal reality and the analysis of non-legal factors affecting the legal behavior of legal subjects in different legal cultures.

Abstract:
The essay presents its author's understanding of historical sociology, as well as a view on how to practice historical sociology. The preconditions that have been necessary for the emergence of historical sociology from the American intellectual tradition are the following: first, to overcome the 'historiosophical ahistoricism' of classical sociology and the ahistoricism of early empirical sociology in the United States. Second, the emergence of 'social history' in Europe under the influence of the Great War and the social sciences rejecting the idea of progress in its evolutionary and revolutionary interpretations. The essay provides a detailed investigation of the features of the 'new historical science' in comparison with its traditional counterpart, as well as exploring the similarities and differences between social history and historical sociology. Social history is considered as an intermediate link between the classical 'sociology of history' and American historical sociology. Following social history, historical sociology turns to comparative studies and quantitative methods, but at the same time does not abandon hermeneutics. Historical sociology presupposes a mutual weakening of the nomothetics of classical 'grand theories' and the ideography of traditional history. It also implies a full-fledged sociological investigation of historical phenomena using procedures accepted in empirical sociology, rather than the reinterpretation of historical research in sociological-theoretical terms. This results in the emergence of special (rather than general) processual and medium-level theories of social change based on historical facts. Historical sociology focuses on theoretical generalizations, which clearly distinguishes it from social history. The essay investigates the different approaches and purposes of using the comparative historical method - and the quantitative methods that complement it. In turn, their utilization leads to problems with the acceptance of their results by traditional historians specialized in a single country and on studying primary sources in the original. Instead of concluding, the author discusses his experience and participation in the institutionalization of historical sociology in Russia and points out the problems hindering it.

Toulmin, Matthew William Stirling, and matt_toulmin@sall com. "Reconstructing linguistic history in a dialect continuum: The Kamta, Rajbanshi, and Northern Deshi Bangla subgroup of Indo-Aryan." The Australian National University. Faculty of Arts, 2006. http://thesis.anu.edu.au./public/adt-ANU20070411.000201.

Full text
Abstract:
This study outlines a methodological framework for reconstructing linguistic history within a dialect continuum and applies this methodology to an under-described, controversial, and complex subgroup of New Indo-Aryan (NIA)—the Kamta, Rajbanshi and Northern Deshi Bangla lects (KRNB). ¶ Dialect continua are characterised by non-discrete boundaries between speech communities, and as a result previously divergent lects may undergo common innovations; the result is the familiar picture of overlapping dialectological isoglosses. The sequencing of these innovations and the historical relations between the lects involved are often highly ambiguous. Given the right sociohistorical conditions, a widespread innovation may be more recent than a localised innovation—the very opposite sequencing to that implied by the splits in a family tree. ¶ Not surprisingly, discrete application to the NIA continuum of traditional methodologies—including the Comparative Method, etymological reconstruction and dialect geography—has yielded unsatisfactory and at times chronologically distorted results. Historical studies, therefore, have chosen between: (a) only studying the histories of NIA lects with written records; (b) reconstructing using the chronology suggested by the shape of a family tree; or (c) settling for a ‘flat’, non-historical account of dialect geography. ¶ Under the approach developed here, the strengths of each of these traditional methods are synthesised within an overarching framework provided by a sociohistorical theory of language change. This synthesis enables the linguistic history of the KRNB lects to be reconstructed with some detail from the proto-Kamta stage (1250-1550 AD) up to the present day. Innovations are sequenced based on three types of criteria: linguistic, textual and sociohistorical. The old Kamta stage, and its relation to old Bangla and Asamiya, is reconstructed based on linguistic Propagation Events and Speech Community Events—two concepts central to the methodology. The old Kamta speech community and its language became divided into western, central and eastern subsections during the middle KRNB period (1550-1787 AD, dates assigned by attested sociohistorical events). During the same period, KRNB lects also underwent partial reintegration with NIA lects further afield by means of more widely propagated changes. This trend of differentiation at a local level, concurrent with reintegration at a wider level, also characterises the modern KRNB period from 1787 AD to the present. ¶ This account of KRNB linguistic history is based on a rigorous reconstruction of changes in phonology and morphology. The result is not only a reconstruction of historical changes, but of the proto-Kamta phoneme inventory, hundreds of words of vocabulary, and specific areas of nominal and verbal morphology. The reconstruction is based on data collected in the field for the purposes of this study. Phonological reconstruction has made use of the WordCorr software program, and the reconstructed vocabulary is presented in a comparative wordlist in an appendix. ¶ The methodology developed and applied in this study has been found highly successful; though naturally not without its own limitations. This study has significance for its contribution both to the methodology of historical linguistic reconstruction and to the light shed on the linguistic prehistory of KRNB.

Brown, Candace. "MOTIVES FOR PARTICIPATION IN TRIATHLONS AMONG MIDLIFE TO OLDER BLACK WOMEN: A MIXED METHOD STUDY." VCU Scholars Compass, 2016. http://scholarscompass.vcu.edu/etd/4181.

Full text
Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Research has established the positive link between physical activity and its impact on health among adults. Generally, as people get older, they are less likely to be active. Black women comprise 13% of the women in the US but constitute 52% of women who are inactive. Existing articles on exercise motivation among Black women have generally assessed sedentary individuals. Little research has examined the motivations to exercise among physically active Black women. METHODS: Guided by the regulators of the Self Determination Theory, the 56 item Motivations of Marathoners Scales for Triathletes (MOMS-T) was used to assess the motives of (N =121) midlife to older Black women (36+) and then transformed into a semi structured guide to interview (n =12) women to further understand their motives for participating in triathlons. RESULTS: Univariate and two way analysis reveals age as a predictor for the four regulators (external, introjection, integration and intrinsic) but BMI and distance are not. Integration demonstrated the highest mean. Qualitative results indicated that construct of self competition and receiving medals are important aspects of participation but are not measured in the survey. A new scale, triathlete lifestyle, should be considered within the MOMS-T. CONCLUSION: Findings were representative of the study population and comparable to previous studies. The survey transformation of the MOMS-T into an interview guide provided additional qualitative explanations of the survey answers demonstrating a secondary method of gathering data as important to provide further understanding about constructs not measured in the survey form of the MOMS-T.

Drumheller, Dolores. "Information Withholding and the Management of Productivity in Teams." ScholarWorks, 2011. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/1059.

Abstract:
The importance of good communications between team members has been well documented. Yet previous studies on communications between team members have neglected to focus on reasons for information withholding between people working on teams. The purpose of this case study of 16 engineers and 6 educators was to understand why team members withhold information when working together. A convenience sample was selected from a software engineering organization. Collective intelligence theory in a modern communications environment was used as the theoretical foundation. This theory posits that the synergy of full group collaboration results in enhanced performance and the spread of new ideas. The exploratory research questions addressed in this study were designed to understand how employees decide what information to withhold when participating on teams; how withholding information is influenced by critical thinking, creativity, positions on a team, and type of employee; and the effects of information withholding. Collected data from online interviews were transcribed and validated via member checks, coded using open and axial coding, and analyzed. Seven themes were found: insecurity, gate keeping, discrimination, personality, creativity, organizational structure, and team management. The results of this study may provide information that can help managers understand employees' experiences with, reactions to, and opinions about information withholding and provide strategies to create an environment in which team members do not withhold information from each other, thus improving or enhancing positive social change in organizations.

Abstract:
In this thesis, I investigate a decades-old problem found in the stop system of Proto-Indo-European (PIE). More specifically, I will be investigating the paucity of */b/ in the forms reconstructed for the ancient, hypothetical language. As cross-linguistic evidence and phonological theory alone have fallen short of providing a satisfactory answer, herein will I employ modern empirical methods of linguistic investigation, namely laboratory phonology experiments and computational database analysis. Following Byrd 2015, I advocate for an examination of synchronic phenomena and behavior as a method for investigating diachronic change. In Chapter 1, I present an overview of the various proposed phonological systems of PIE and some of the explanations previously given for the enigmatic rarity of PIE */b/. Chapter 2 presents a detailed account of three lab phonology experiments I conducted in order to investigate perceptual confusability as a motivator of asymmetric merger within a system of stop consonants. Chapter 3 presents the preliminary form and findings of a computational database of reconstructed forms in PIE that I created and have named the Database of Etymological Reconstructions Beginnning in Proto-Indo-European (DERBiPIE). The final chapter, Chapter 4, offers a summary of the work presented herein and conclusions that may be drawn, offering suggestions for continued work on the topic and others like it.

Abstract:
Il ressort de cette étude qu’ils ontsurtout exercé une influence méthodologique et intellectuelle sur la norme législative<br>The followers of Frederic Le Play (1806-1882) sought by the establishment of schools, toperpetuate the work of their master. They indeed tried to reestablish social spirit as the true basisof legal science. The latter, frontally opposed to the classical spirit of Jurists, made of abstractionand ideality, must allow life to penetrate the field of legal science, saturated with the ideology ofthe Enlightenment. To achieve this objective, they develop a methodological reflection on legalscience, which must combine the classic deductive process to the induction of Social Sciences.Once seated on the neutrality of the social fact, legal science can finally be cleansed ofRousseau’s ideology and be, after all, depoliticized. The leplaysiens ultimately found the truebasis of law in tradition, defined as a mixture of immanence and historicity. The disciples of LePlay, who intend to promote reforms to the advent of a traditional society vector of social peace, then use formal sources of law. The latter appear truly manipulated : the followers of theengineer use indeed to suit their needs, both custom, jurisprudence and law to achieve theirreforms. It appears from this study that they have mostly influenced the Third Republiclegislation in a methodological and intellectual way

Abstract:
Business intelligence (BI) involves transforming data into actionable information to make better business decisions that may help improve operations. Although businesses have experienced success with BI, how leaders of church organizations might be able to exploit the advantages of BI in church organizations remains largely unexplored. The purpose of the phenomenological study was to explore the perceptions of pastoral leaders concerning the potential usefulness of BI in church organizations. Conceptual support for the study was based on the premise that churches may also benefit from BI that helps improve decision making and organizational performance. Three research questions were used to examine the current role of BI in church organizations, the potential usefulness of BI in church organizations, and potential conflicts that might exist between spiritual and BI management objectives. Semistructured interviews were used to obtain data from 20 pastoral leaders. The data were analyzed using the modified Van Kaam method of analysis. The results indicated that pastoral leaders perceived that BI can be a useful technology in church organizations. Additionally, the pastoral leaders did not perceive any conflict between BI and church management objectives. Church leaders may be able to take advantage of BI to achieve their social outreach programs. As a result, local churches can have a greater social impact on the surrounding communities.

Yasar, Rusen. "The institutionalization of multilevel politics in Europe." Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2017. https://www.repository.cam.ac.uk/handle/1810/269685.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis addresses the question as to why multilevel politics is becoming an integral part of politics in Europe. Multilevel politics is conceptualized as a system which functions through a complex web of political relations within and across levels of decision making. The thesis argues that the rise of multilevel politics can be explained by its institutionalization in terms of the emergence, the evolution and especially the effects of relevant institutions. Based on a mixed-method research project, the influence of European institutions on subnational actors and the alignment of actor motives with institutional characteristics are empirically shown. The first chapter of the dissertation establishes the centrality of institutions for political transformation, examines the role of transnational and domestic institutions for multilevel politics, and contextualizes the research question in terms of institution-actor relations. The second chapter develops a new-institutionalist theoretical framework that explains the emergence, the evolution and the effects of the institutions, and formulates a series of hypotheses with regard to freestanding institutional influence, power distribution, material benefits and political identification. The third chapter outlines the mixed-method research design which addresses individual-level and institutional-level variations through a Europe-wide survey and a comparative case study. The fourth chapter on survey results shows generally favourable views on multilevel politics, and strong associations of these views with the independent variables under scrutiny. The fifth chapter specifies a multivariate model which includes all posited variables and confirms the majority of the hypotheses. Therefore, the new-institutionalist argument is broadly confirmed, while there is relatively weak evidence to sustain sociological explanations. The final chapter compares the Committee of the Regions and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, and examines the institutional characteristics which correspond to the hypothesized variables. It is then concluded that the two institutions share several overarching similarities, and display complementarity in other aspects.

Brisibe, Evelyn Oghogho. "Phenomenological Study of Career Advancement Experiences of Ethnic Female Migrant." ScholarWorks, 2016. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/3141.

Full text
Abstract:
In the 2006 census, Statistics Canada recorded that 23% of immigrant women aged 15 and over had a university degree at the bachelor's level or above. These women could help sustain an organization's competitive advantage and respond to labor shortages posed by an aging population. This phenomenological study highlighted self-initiated migration journey and career advancement experiences of migrant women. Through LinkedIn and referrals from non-profit organizations, a sample of 20 women was recruited. All women had migrated to Canada between the ages 32 to 50, all had 5 to 10 years of residence in Canada and all had college degrees from their home countries. Data were collected through in-depth qualitative interviews and analyzed utilizing Moustakas's framework. The themes were driven predominantly by the data from the study. In order to manage structural barriers to their career development, the participants highlighted the importance of career preparation such as postgraduate education, qualification accreditations and international experience to advancing their careers in Canada. The findings of this study showed that, the principles of meritocracy was influenced by ethic discrimination and educational barriers experienced by participants. The participants challenged inequalities by navigating within organizational structures using these modes of engagement; maintenance, transformation, and entrepreneurship as they developed their careers. The results provide a framework to the Canadian government, businesses, and settlement agencies to understand the implications of ethnicity and international experience to the current debate and proposition for reforms to immigration and hiring policies.

The volume consists of two parts, one of which comprises analyses of filmic transmediations of Shakespeare’s sonnets (The Sonnetproject, New York Shakespeare Exchange 2013), the other analyses of literary ekphrases (by W. Szymborska, U. Fanthorpe, J. Stone etc.). It results from an Intermedial studies seminar held in 2021 within the program Literature and Intercultural Communication at Masaryk University, Brno. The contributions display various approaches that fall under two main intermedial methods, literature-centered (introduced by Werner Wolf), which focuses primarily on a semantic analysis of the original text, and literature-oriented (as suggested by Irina Rajewsky), which respects the transmediation as an autonomous representation and observes its relations to the pretext mainly retrospectively; and even a comparative one, which involves a translinguistic analysis of translations as intercultural and historical transfers.

Abstract:
The paper analyzes the historical retrospective and a comparative study of the verification of court decisions in criminal cases. The author traces the emergence of the idea of checking court decisions and the first experiments of its implementation, the transition from the "court with a judge" to the "audit" procedure for monitoring court decisions, and then to the consideration of complaints against court decisions as a continuation of the dispute between the parties and the formation of methods and procedures for reviewing criminal cases, depending on the subject of appeal. The features of the Romano-German and English models of judicial review are highlighted. Special attention is paid to the Soviet system of verification of sentences, rulings and definitions as the basis of the socialist model of judicial review and its subsequent transformation in Russia in the post-Soviet period.&#x0D; The monograph is intended for researchers, teachers, undergraduate, specialist, master's, postgraduate and doctoral students, as well as practicing lawyers.

Abstract:
The article adresses the well-known question about the eventual links between the Old Russian Domostroi and the European domestic handbooks and focuses on the aporia to which lead all the previous comparative works. The methodological character of the impasse apears clearly when we analyze those works in the light of a clearly defined comparative method. As a result, the author suggests to address the relationships between the Domostroi and its European analogues no more from the traditional literary point of view but from a historical one.

The recovery of the history of humanity goes through the comprehension of ancient testimonies handed down to us in artistic representations. The innovative tool par excellence is the technologies. Smarticon is an Italian patent for method in charge of studying historical analysis (originated from the morphology of the concept), of examining the phenomenology analysis (which results in the typology and exceeds it) and to the comparative research (which allows to arrive at the hermeneutics ). The comprehension of the transitory meaning of each event is entrusted to the historian who, by recomposing the phenomena, is also able to codify the comparative meanings.

Abstract This book is about the classical comparative method of historical linguistics.1 When historical linguists talk about the ‘comparative method’, what they usually have in mind is not just a method but also an associated theory, and the contributors to this volume are no exception to this generalisation. For over a century a mainstay of the associated theory has been the ‘Neo grammarian hypothesis’, set out by Osthoff and Brugmann (1878) in the manifesto which sought to bring scholarly rigour to historical linguistics: ‘[E]very sound change, inasmuch as it occurs mechanically, takes place according to laws that admit no exception.’ (translated in Lehmann 1967: 204).

Abstract:
The policy imposed by the authorities in Romania from the moment of transitioning to the communist regime (1947), followed the Soviet model, which was based on the materialist-atheist ideology, however adapted to Romanian society. The repercussions were multiple, among them including the suppression of free expression of religious sentiment. In this context were most of the cults in Romania, among which the Orthodox Church. Predominant in Romania, this Church suffered greatly from the communist regime, which persecuted not just the ecclesiastical hierarchy, but also its prominent followers. Situated in an irreducible antagonism that completely contradicts each other, Christianity, on one hand, as the religion of freedom, love, and life, and Communism, on the other hand, as anthropocentric and atheist ideology, imposing itself through hatred and terror, were permanently positioned in opposition. The persecution started by the communist regime made many victims, with people from all social categories and religious convictions, of different ages whether they were men or women, young or old. Although many of these people enjoyed societal prestige at that time, they were still declared enemies of the people and, consequently, endured tortures and persecutions with an inhuman intensity. In the process of communizing the society, the Orthodox Church was seen as an obstacle in the way of forming the new man, being subjected to a systematic campaign of intimidation and control by the authorities, through a series of repressive actions (control of the clergy, limiting worship practices, imprisonment, expulsion of monks from monasteries etc.). All these aspects have been presented in this study, making use of the following methods: analytical, comparative, historical and descriptive, in accordance with archival data and other related studies

In Indonesian Petroleum Association 44th Annual Convention and Exhibition. Indonesian Petroleum Association, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.29118/ipa21-bc-1.

Abstract:
This paper presents a comparative analysis of the use of two methods, Risk Adjusted Discount Rate (RADR) and Monte Carlo Simulation, in evaluating the risks and uncertainties in an oil and gas investment proposal. Basically, RADR method is the same as the usual discounted cash flow. But the discount rate already considers any risk/uncertainty that a project will face. Thus, some percentage, based on trusted publisher, will be added to the discount rate. While using monte carlo simulation, an economic model, with base discount rate, will be evaluated by creating hundreds of possible iterations that continually change the major economic assumption based on historical data such as production, capital expenditure, operating expenditure, oil and gas price. The purpose of this paper is to compare the use of two methods, RADR and Historical-Based Monte Carlo Simulation in evaluating risk/uncertainty in oil and gas investment proposal. There are four real oil and gas projects which will be evaluated: Project 1 (Gas Development Project), Project 2 (Shallow Water Development Project), Project 3 (Offshore Development Project), and Project 4 (EOR Development Project). The Net Present Value (NPV) of each project with those two methods will be evaluated and analyzed. The comparison study shows that NPV Calculation with Historical-Based Monte Carlo Simulation tend to have higher NPV. This is important to maintain the level of project attractiveness. Historical Based Monte Carlo Simulation method also shows the real risks and uncertainties because it is based on the historical data. Besides, this method gives real picture of what the project might face in the future instead of allowing static variables to be introduced into potential dynamic model. However, to make Historical-Based Monte Carlo Simulation robust, complete historical database is needed. While, Risk Adjusted Discount Rate method can simply be used by trusted publication.

Abstract:
A study of the history of corruption and the penalties for it has inadvertently led to the conclusion that this socially dangerous phenomenon not only fails to disappear from public administration, but continues to remain and increase, having the features of a transnational phenomenon that affects societies and economies of all countries. Throughout history, there has been an evolution of corruption parallel to the evolution of the state. Corruption undermines democratic institutions and values and the ethical values of the individual, leading to a double standard of behaviour in both public service and civil society. In Russia, corruption is recognised by both officials and the population. The main purpose of the study is to examine the manifestation of corruption and methods of counteracting it from a historical perspective. Objectives: analyse the forms and methods of corruption control as viewed through the prism of historical experience; consider contemporary manifestations of corruption from a position of social values. Research methods: a comparative analysis method to investigate the manifestation of corruption and the possibilities for its prevention from a historical perspective. Main conclusions: corruption is a multi-faceted and multi-dimensional phenomenon that is seen and studied as an economic, political, social and cultural problem; social values are the basis of a modern preventive mechanism against corruption; public policy against corruption is the main mechanism and strategy.

Abstract:
A significant segment in service law is banking. The first reason for that is the great role that banking has in the economic system of every country with a market economy, while the second reason is that public and private interests are realized on the basis of banking operations. Banking performs a specific activity, which differs from the activity of other business entities and which makes it recognizable on the market, since this activity cannot be performed by other entities (receiving deposits and giving loans). From the above, there is a need to study the historical development of banking, its present and based on that project the future of banking, in order to be ready to face all the challenges that will arise in the future and thus preserve business positions in a strong and competitive market economy. The historical method, as well as the normative and comparative method were used in the study of the subject of this paper.

Full text
Abstract:
The main objective of the study is to reveal the functional parameters of anthroponyms in the media texts. Methods of investigation: the method of media texts monitoring, the comparative method; the method of contextual analysis, the methods of functional analysis. Results. Anthroponyms in media texts contribute to the exact reproduction of facts, the display of a certain time-space. The use of an anthroponym in the media gives its bearer greater social significance; silencing an anthroponym demonstrates a desire to remove its bearer from the public agenda. Anthroponyms can reflect person’s social connections, inform about a belonging to a certain national, ethnic, age, social group. Conclusions Anthroponyms give media text more credibility, because they inform about a specific person in specific realities, personalize information. Anthroponyms are capable to mark time-space, therefore the actualization of proper names can be a means of transferring to another time, informing about forgotten historical facts and persons. Given the ability of anthroponyms – the names of famous persons – to be reduced, the journalist should take into account the possible difficulties of identifying such a person in a different time-space or under the condition of insufficient recognition. Entering the language game, anthroponyms are actualizing simultaneously meanings associated with different time-spaces, such ability can be effectively used to draw historical or cultural parallels, create an expressive load. Given the ability of anthroponyms to increase or decrease social status, journalists should be responsible in the selection of proper names as part of the factual material of the media text. Marking through anthroponyms the connection with national, social, age groups makes these words unique identifiers of the division into “own” or “strangers”, demonstrates the attitude of the speaker towards the bearer of his own name. Significance. The revealed functional parameters of anthroponyms as part of the actual material of the media text provide journalists with ample opportunities for the implementation of various communicative tasks. Key words: media text, anthroponym, factual material, language picture of the world, time-space, social communications.

Abstract:
The article clarifies of gender identity stereotypes in modern media. The main gender stereotypes covered in modern mass media are analyzed and refuted. The model of gender relations in the media is reflected mainly in the stereotypical images of men and woman. The features of the use of gender concepts in modern periodicals for women and men were determined. The most frequently used derivatives of these macroconcepts were identified and analyzed in detail. It has been found that publications for women and men are full of various gender concepts that are used in different contexts. Ingeneral, theanalysisofthe concept-maximums and concept-minimum gender and their characteristics is carried out in the context of gender stereotypes that have been forme dand function in the society, system atizing the a ctual presentations. The study of the gender concept is relevant because it reveals new trends and features of modern gender images. Taking into account the special features of gender-labeled periodicals in general and the practical absence of comprehensive scientific studies of the gender concept in particular, there is a need to supplement Ukrainian science with this topic. Gender psychology, which is served by methods of various sciences, primarily sociological, pedagogical, linguistic, psychological, socio-psychological. Let us pay attention to linguistic and psycholinguistic methods in gender studies. Linguistic methods complement intelligence research tasks, associated with speech, word and text. Psycholinguistic methods used in gender psychology (semantic differential, semantic integral, semantic analysis of words and texts), aimed at studying speech messages, specific mechanisms of origin and perception, functions of speech activity in society, studying the relationship between speech messages and gender properties participants in the communication, to analyze the linguistic development in connection with the general development of the individual. Nowhere in gender practice there is the whole arsenal of psychological methods that allow you to explore psychological peculiarities of a person like observation, experiments, questionnaires, interviews, testing, modeling, etc. The methods of psychological self-diagnostics include: the gender aspect of the own socio-psychological portrait, a gender biography as a variant of the biographical method, aimed at the reconstruction of individual social experience. In the process of writing a gender autobiography, a person can understand the characteristics of his gender identity, as well as ways and means of their formation. Socio-psychological methods of studying gender include the study of socially constructed women’s and men’s roles, relationships and identities, sexual characteristics, psychological characteristics, etc. The use of gender indicators and gender approaches as a means of socio-psychological and sociological analysis broadens the subject boundaries of these disciplines and makes them the subject of study within these disciplines. And also, in the article a combination of concrete-historical, structural-typological, system-functional methods is implemented. Descriptive and comparative methods, method of typology, modeling are used. Also used is a method of content analysis for the study of gender content of modern gender-stamped journals. It was he who allowed quantitatively to identify and explore the features of the gender concept in the pages of periodicals for women and men. A combination of historical, structural-typological, system-functional methods is also implemented in the article. Descriptive and comparative methods, method of typology, modeling are used. A method of content analysis for the study of gender content of modern gender-labeled journals is also used. It allowed to identify and explore the features of the gender concept quantitatively in the periodicals for women and men. The conceptual perception and interpretation of the gender concept «woman», which is highlighted in the modern gender-labeled press in Ukraine, requires the elaboration of the polyfunctionality of gender interpretations, the comprehension of the metaphorical perception of this image and its role and purpose in society. A gendered approach to researching the gender content of contemporary periodicals for women and men. Conceptual analysis of contemporary gender-stamped publications within the gender conceptual sphere allows to identify and correlate the meta-gender and gender concepts that appear in society.

Abstract:
The article updates the activities of regional broadcasters in the information space of the Luhansk region, where numerous enemy information attacks preceded the invasion of the Russian occupation forces. Main objective of the study - mass media activities of the Luhansk region’s television companies in the pre-war and post-war periods and the specifics of the integration of the (pro) Russian agenda into the region’s information space. The study was done out using a descriptive, classification, comparative-historical method, which made it possible to consider the regional telespace in the context of historical transformations and highlight stages in development, identify system-forming factors, which made it possible to move from the consideration of certain elements to the analysis of the system. Conclusions. The mass communication activities of the Luhansk region’s television companies in different historical periods have shown their ability to maintain the regional media field, the diversity and variety of content. However, the media sphere was not devoid of Soviet party ideology (1958-1991), with its subsequent post-Soviet modification and political layering (1991-2004) of anti-Ukrainian forces; with the saturation (2004-2014) of the information space with non-Ukrainian information flows and the promotion of symbols, worldview and philosophical concepts of the updated Soviet ideology – the «Russkiy mir» and its further functioning (2014-2022) in the conditions of real military operations in the East of Ukraine. Significance. During the ongoing war, Ukraine’s experience can be used in research on Russian information interference, inciting enmity, hatred between peoples, promoting narratives in the Ukrainian and international information space, verifying the criteria for distinguishing between information destructive to democracy and a valid expression of freedom of speech, and creating an international platform for exchange information about threats, misinformation, narratives and their rapid leveling. Abstract:
The article conducts an analysis of the content of regional Public Television during the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. A comparative analysis of programs created by regional teams of the Public broadcaster before the full-scale invasion is presented. The research aims to study and provide a detailed analysis of the television content of regional branches of Public Television to understand the peculiarities of operation during a state of war, track changes in the thematic content, and speech format. Analytical methods of scientific research (analysis of television content of regional branches of Public Television), as well as inductive, deductive, and abstract-logical methods, are employed. The historical method is applied to the study of television reform in Ukraine. The key method in the research is content analysis, which is used to study the impact of television reform on the quality and volume of content of regional branches of Public Television. Using the example of the content of “Suspilne-Ternopil,” the thematic and problematic content of programs of the regional branch of Public Television is investigated. A significant reduction in the share of in-house produced content on local issues is identified. In particular, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the production of the program “Today. Main” was suspended, a socio-political talk show that extensively covered local issues. Emphasis is placed on the importance of regional media in times of war, representing the interests of the public at both regional and central levels. In our opinion, regional broadcasters of Public Television should reintroduce in-house produced programs to restore a platform for discussing local issues. Strengthening ties with high-quality media from neighboring states is also advisable, specifically for the exchange of journalists’ experiences and high-quality content. In Ukraine, this type of journalism is just emerging, but its introduction into the editorial policy of the media may have a national importance. These are regional and local media that can inform their communities about the positive solution of certain problems in other communities, and thus thanks to this model can save local journalism. In the scientific context, there is a need to outline the main differences in the understanding of the concepts of decision journalism and constructive journalism, to understand the socio-psychological need to create good news.

Abstract:
The article reveals and analyses a wide range of terms for the Holodomor of the 1920s and 1930s in Ukraine. The main objectives of the study are to find out the peculiarities of the linguistic presentation of the Holodomor phenomenon in scientific, popular science, and journalistic discourses, and to reveal semantic differences in the use of various terms for the Holodomor used in different languages. The main methodological bases of the study are linguistic analysis, socio-cultural method, qualitative content analysis, comparative method, etc. The method of retrospection must be used to substantiate the hypothesis. Thus, the reasons for the formation of the semantic contours of the terms “Holodomor”, “Famine”, “Great Famine”, “Terror by Famine”, “Big Hunger”, etc. were clarified. At the same time, the semantic nuances of word use are identified. As a conclusion, the authors substantiate the fundamental importance of using the term “Holodomor-genocide” in scientific circulation as the one that most accurately represents the essence of the historical phenomenon of the Holodomor. Based on the analysis of the documents, the content of the term “genocide” is formulated. It is explained that the Holodomor is genocide of the Ukrainian people, just as the Holocaust is genocide of the Jewish people. The authors prove the anti-Ukrainian orientation of the consistent and deliberate policy of Stalin and his followers against the Ukrainian nation, which culminated in the murder by starvation. These research findings are significant not only for the development of Ukrainian terminology or international terminology. They are also of great importance for modern politics, political science and historiography, and jurisprudence, especially in the context of a new genocide – the Russian Federation’s full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. Keywords: Holodomor; genocide; Ukraine; Stalin’s terror; terminology.

Stelmakh, Marta. HISTORICAL CONTEXT IN THE COLLECTION OF ARTICLES BY TIMOTHY SNYDER «UKRAINIAN HISTORY, RUSSIAN POLITICS, EUROPEAN FUTURE». Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.50.11098.

Abstract:
The article examines the problem of the image formation of Ukraine in the international arena in the historical journalism of Timothy Snyder. The subject of the research is the historical context in the journalistic collection «Ukrainian History, Russian Politics, European Future». It identifies the main considerations of the author on the past of Russian-Ukrainian relations and the need to develop historical consciousness in the fight against Russian manipulation. Methodology: the comparative, historical, system analysis and other methods are used in the process of scientific research. The results of the study were obtained by analysing the author’s journalistic works and by considering the main historical themes raised by Timothy Snyder. Main results: The historical context in Timothy Snyder’s journalism is often focused on the Holodomor and the events of World War II. After all, these events are connected with the beginning of the image formation of the Ukrainian people as supporters of Nazism by the Russian authorities and the devaluation of the Ukrainians’ contribution to the establishment of peace during the Second World War. It is determined that the non-reflective attitude to history, the inability to draw parallels between the events of the past and the future leads to an ineffective response to manipulation and propaganda, which can threaten world peace. Conclusions: the realization that Russian aggression against Ukraine has its own history is a necessary aspect in the elucidation of this issue. The Eurasian Union and cooperation with the European far-right are Russian propaganda tools that discredit the Ukrainian state in the world community. Publicist Timothy Snyder points out that Europe’s future interconnects with the past, so he emphasizes the need to study and rethink history, which today has become the object of propaganda and manipulation. Significance: The results of our study will help journalists who study the historical aspect of journalistic materials and research foreign materials on Ukrainian issues. In addition, our research is necessary for Ukraine, because Russia’s aggression continues, as well as the aggressor’s propaganda, which is based on the distortion and falsification of historical events.

The subject of the research is the genocidal component of the Russian-Ukrainian war, as well as the reasons and evidence of the genocidal intentions of the Russian authorities in Timothy Snyder’s reasoning. The objective of the study is to establish the specifics of the elucidation of the reasons and evidence of the genocidal component in Russia’s policy against Ukraine in the scientist’s writings. The following methods were used in the process of scientific research: systematic, comparative, content analysis, historical, and their combination. The research highlights the main theses and ideas of the author regarding the facts of Russia’s expansionist position against Ukraine. Moreover, the study specifies the main theses of the author, which he uses to explain the reluctance of the world community to recognise the war in Ukraine as genocidal. In addition to this, the research states and describes nine features presented by Timothy Snyder to prove the intentions of the Russian Federation to exterminate Ukrainians as a nation. He also notes that the authorities of the terrorist country are doing everything to deprive the concepts of “Nazi” and “genocide” of any meaning, as well as make sure that the history of the Holocaust or the Second World War does not bring any lessons to future generations. The findings of our research are important for journalists and scholars who cover and examine the Russian-Ukrainian War and its historical context. In addition, they will aid our country in confronting the propaganda and lies spread by the Russian Federation, because Timothy Snyder explores the topic of Ukraine, as well as the longevity of Russian-Ukrainian relations in his works. Abstract:
The subject of the study is the cooperation of S. Efremov with Western Ukrainian periodicals as a page in the history of Ukrainian journalism which covers the relationship of journalists and scientists of Eastern and Western Ukraine at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. Research methods (biographical, historical, comparative, axiological, statistical, discursive) develop the comprehensive disclosure of the article. As a result of scientific research, the origins of Ukrainocentrism in the personality of S. Efremov were clarified; his person as a public figure, journalist, publisher, literary critic is multifaceted; taking into account the specifics of the memoir genre and with the involvement of the historical context, the turning points in the destiny of the author of memoirs are interpreted, revealing cooperation with Western Ukrainian magazines and newspapers. The publications ‘Zoria’, ‘Narod’, ‘Pravda’, ‘Bukovyna’, ‘Dzvinok’, are secretly got into sub-Russian Ukraine, became for S. Efremov a spiritual basis in understanding the specifics of the national (Ukrainian) mass media, ideas of education in culture of Ukraine at the end of XIX century, its territorial integrity, and state independence. Memoirs of S. Efremov on cooperation with the iconic Galician journals ‘Notes of the Scientific Society after the name Shevchenko’ and ‘Literary-Scientific Bulletin’, testify to an important stage in the formation of the author’s worldview, the expansion of the genre boundaries of his journalism, active development as a literary critic. S. Yefremov collaborated most fruitfully and for a long time with the Literary-Scientific Bulletin, and he was impressed by the democratic position of this publication. The author’s comments reveal a long-running controversy over the publication of a review of the new edition of Kobzar and thematically related discussions around his other literary criticism, in which the talent of the demanding critic was forged. S. Efremov steadfastly defended the main principles of literary criticism: objectivity and freedom of author’s thought. The names of the allies of the Ukrainian idea L. Skochkovskyi, O. Lototskyi, O. Konyskyi, P. Zhytskyi, M. Hrushevskyi in S. Efremov’s memoirs unfold in multifaceted portrait descriptions and function as historical and cultural facts that document the pages of the author’s biography, record his activities in space and time. The results of the study give grounds to characterize S. Efremov as the first professional Ukrainian-speaking journalist.

Abstract:
The article analyses the topic of the Russian war against Ukraine in the works of Anne Applebaum. The subject of the study is the Russian-Ukrainian war in the context of changes in the world order in the journalist articles published since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. This article highlights the main theses and ideas of the author and her predictions about the future of democracy. The need for a critical analysis of the world changes and a response to the expansionist actions of authoritarian states is substantiated. The main goal of the work is to find out the particularities of the consideration of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the analysis of changes in the world order in the works of Anne Applebaum. Such methods as systematic, comparative historical and others were used in the research process. A. Applebaum’s articles published before and during the full-scale invasion in the American publication “The Atlantic” were analysed. We managed to identify the main subject of A. Applebaum’s articles: the reasons and motives of Russian aggression against Ukraine; the collapse of democracy in the context of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine; the problem of the ignorance of threats from authoritarian states, in particular Russia, by the European and American communities; the rethinking of their identity and past by states due to the war on the continent, as well as the use of genocidal hate speech by the Russian authorities to justify the physical and moral destruction of Ukrainians in the past and present. The results of our research will help journalists who consider both the historical context of Russia’s genocidal policy against Ukraine as well as the impact of the war on the international system. The analysis of the works of A. Applebaum is crucial for Ukrainian society as they consider our past and present and their correlation.
