Perchet, Romain. "Construction et gestion d'un portefeuille en budget de risque." Paris, EHESS, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015EHES0179.
Full textThis thesis, based on articles, propose solutions to investors to build and manage portfolios taking into account the frequency of crisis. The first chapter explains the motivation of these articles. The second chapter proposes a solution to build robust mid-term asset allocation whereas the chapter three and four offer solutions to manage short term risk. For a number of different formulations of robust portfolio optimization, quadratic and absolute, I show that (a) in the limit of low uncertainty in estimated asset mean returns the robust portfolio converges towards the mean-variance portfolio obtained with the same inputs, and (b) in the limit of high uncertainty the robust portfolio converges towards a risk-based portfolio, which is a function of how the uncertainty in estimated asset mean returns is defined. Inter-temporal risk parity is a strategy which rebalances between a risky asset and cash in order to target a constant level of risk over time. When applied to equities and compared to a buy and hold strategy it is known to improve the Sharpe ratio and reduce drawdowns. I used Monte Carlo simulations based on a number of time-series parametric models from the GARCH family in order to analyze the relative importance of a number of effects in explaining those benefits. I also apply these strategies to factor investing, namely value and momentum investing in equities, government bonds and foreign exchange. Value and momentum factors generate a premium which is traditionally captured by dollar-neutral long-short portfolios rebalanced every month to take into account changes in stock, bond or foreign exchange factor exposures and keep leverage constant

Full textHorizons are first-class elements of the structural models used for Oil & Gasexploration. When they have a complex shape, they become difficult or even outright impossibleto manage within typical software packages. Handling those so-called “multivalued”horizons indeed requires tackling two problems. First, data models must be found to representthem. A review of the state of the art, complemented by a benchmark, led us to promotethe use of patch systems and triangulated surfaces in order to represent reverse-faulted horizonsand salt domes, respectively. Second, multivalued surfaces must be reconstructed fromsparse and non-uniformly distributed interpretation data. We developed two reconstructionmethods, each targeting a multivalued horizon type. They are based on standard geoscienceinterpolation methods, making them both fast and natural extensions of the state of the art.Using the proposed models along with the reconstruction methods, it is now possible to efficientlytackle the more complex fields were they are typically found

Full textFacing crisis, farm-firms try to offer differentiate product adapted to needs of supermarket-firms. Elaboration of this couple product/market could only be achieved through a couple product/partner. Moreover, agricultural policy is looking for local development based on European quality signs. Central thesis questions is : what are cohesion process individual and collective strategies? Minor one's : what are "meta-rules" strategic partnerships used in co-construction of "structuration" and "justification"? Main hypothesis is : cohesion of individual and collective strategy is voluntary dynamic force of strategic information system collective construction. Couple "product/territory" adapted this baseline to farming industry. Research intents took part into thought and action on phenomenal description. Orientated project systemic model of small farm-firms and of couple product/territory is proposed. Characterized by "identity alterity", small firms are estimating their cohesion space with couple product/territory through cohesion loops. These links are running by two "metarules" which are information and quality. Couple product/territory is constructed through "identity alterity" - "structuration potentialisation" loop. Structuration refered to justification. Justification hanged on relationships with customers and with "legitimacy makers". Couple product/territory has to make initiator "meta-rules" become operational. Using quality management tools and information system allowed self-confidence and confidence. Exploration study showed interest into escaping from agronomics "terroir" for insisting on collective strategic goodwill: couple product/territory. "Apple(s) from Alpes" case suggested method for research on small firms strategic partnerships

Full textThis doctoral work analyses the place and the role of computing tools in farm management. From the recent developpement of microcomputing technics, emerges a large and direct diffusion of management tools for farmers. In fact, several tens of thousands of them manage their farm and use these tools daily. The analysis focuses on the farmer's management activity. In this frame, the ways to use tools and their effects in term of management are examined carefully. Method used is interactive research and direct observation. Means of access to, and local context are carefully described. In the results of this work, the different levels of uses and the dynamic of instrumental learning are characterized. The effects in term of management are analysed according to three levels : the improvement of administrative procedures, the intensification of the logic of adjustment and attention, the developpement of the strategic vision of farmer. Then a model is proposed, which explains why this learning process leads to a transformation of management practices and a kind of vigilance economy for farmer. This conceptual model of the decisional and informational process can be used for a renewal of works about farm management methods. At last and from these results, a reflection about the contribution of management research is presented, particularly in the matter of farm advice and decision support
Signori, Ombretta. "Construction de portefeuilles et couverture du risque d’inflation." Paris 10, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA100111.
Full textThe aim of this thesis is to address the question of how to build a portfolio that offers protection against inflation. Rather than proposing a rigid solution, the research will offer insights to practitioners on best inflation hedging portfolios case-by-case. Preserving the purchasing power of savings should be an objective of all investors, both individuals and institutional investors. Looking beyond the short term, investors could have to cope with the threat of a rise in consumer prices. Following the subprime meltdown almost all developed countries applied extremely expansionary monetary policies with significant stimulus packages and injections of liquidity into money markets. Emerging markets central banks are no longer focusing on combating inflation, choosing instead to support growth, while renewed tensions in the Middle East may well push up oil and other commodities’ prices adding further pressures to the ongoing debate. These concerns raise the interest of re-considering how to build a portfolio that protects investors from inflation risk. In principle, the only asset class providing protection from uncertainty about real interest rates and inflation is inflation-linked (IL) bonds. Never mind, when addressing the aim of inflation hedging, it is important to look beyond natural inflation hedgers, since not all developing countries issued IL bonds and these markets are still narrow and less liquid compared to their nominal-bond counterparts. Moreover, the current low-yield regime makes it more challenging to obtain high real returns. We will organize our thesis in four chapters

Full textWhy is risk management so little applied to construction projects? Is it due to actors who are not able to incorporate new methods or methods that are not applicable at all to the specificities of construction? The main objective of this research is to propose a method of risk analysis that is adapted to the context of construction, especially for companies that areresponsible for the work of the construction project. To achieve this objective, the research was divided into two parts: a first part containing the first four chapters which presents thecontext, the organization, the actors, the phases of the construction projects based on a bibliographic search and the presentation of the two cases. who have experienced seriousaccidentsThe second part is composed by the last four chapters which approach the existing methods and propose a method developed from the theory of utility multi attributes. This dynamic and evolutive method is proposed in such a way that the perspectives of the different levels ofdecision within the same company responsible for the works in the execution phase of the construction project are taken into account in the face of the risk management of the project, to improve the performance of projects, by reducing accidents, delays and consequently extracosts, and taking into account the perspective

Full textThis thesis presents a prescriptive model for projects that develop innovative products. Its prescriptive character and its universality stem from 11 axioms or axiomatic propositions. It is constructed to find a solution to the general problematic of project management effectiveness (getting results) and efficiency (getting results with less energy). The model is composed of a structure on the operational level and of a design on the managerial level. Two teams, three functions and five roles are the constitutive elements of the model. The construction of the prescriptive model is the result of extensive theoretical and practical research. The study of literature starts with a presentation of classical authors on work organization; it extends into an analysis on the Aston group and the contingency theory and it ends with a study of the matrix structure and the project management concept. This work generates a general conceptual approach on the specificities of project management, its work mode and its work organization. The empirical research uses the action-research methodology and was conducted in EXFO, an innovative company based in Quebec City. Action research implemented the prescriptive model in the company’s R & D and put it into practice on an actual innovative project of the Project Management Office. The research demonstrates that the prescriptive model is simple, practical and reliable. It also makes clear that in-depth assimilation of the model’s concepts, roles and functions is challenging and time-consuming.

Full textMany researchers in the field of Natural Language Processing have shown the significance of descriptive linguistics and especially the use of large-scaled databases of fine-grained linguistic components composed of lexicons and grammars. This approach has a drawback: it requires long-term investment. It is then necessary to develop methods and computational tools to help the construction of such data that are required to be directly applicable to texts. This work focuses on a specific linguistic representation: local grammars that describe precise and local constraints in the form of graphs. Two issues arise : How to efficiently build precise, complete and text-applicable grammars? How to deal with their growing number and their dispersion ? To handle the first problem, a set of simple and empirical methods have been exposed on the basis of M. Gross (1975)'s lexicon-grammar methodology. The whole process of linguistic analysis and formal representation has been described through the examples of two original phenomena: expressions of measurement (un immeuble d'une hauteur de 20 mètres) and locative prepositional phrases containing geographical proper names (à l'île de la Réunion). Each phenomenon has been narrowed to elementary sentences. This enables semantically classify them according to formal criteria. The syntactical behavior of these sentences has been systematically studied according to the lexical value of their elements. Then, the observed properties have been encoded either directly in the form of graphs with an editor or in the form of syntactical matrices then semi-automatically converted into graphs according to E. Roche (1993). These studies led to develop new conversion algorithms in the case of matrix systems where linguistic information is encoded in several matrices. For the second issue, a prototype on-line library of local grammars have been designed and implemented. The objective is to centralize and distribute local grammars constructed within the RELEX network of laboratories. We developed a set of tools allowing users to both store new graphs and search for graphs according to different criteria. The implementation of a grammar search engine led to an investigation into a new field of information retrieval: searching of linguistic information into sets of local grammars

A group of indicators were created for the supervision of the system. The proposal was tested based on an applied experimentation plan to three real designs and the records, the data and the several produced documents were integrated and proceed with an computer application developed for the effect, that uses the Excel program of Microsoft. Finally, it was made a comparison of the results and conclusions that where reached for the adaptation of the proposal. As base reference, the norms ISO 9000 (2000) was used, to propose a Quality Management System (QMS) integrated in a global vision of the organizations as being an integrated group of processes. A quality manual, essential document of a OMS, applied on a company for studies and designs is presented, tends as reference the Portuguese reality. In this document, they grew the processes, the procedures and the indicators to use. The conduction of the construction operations realities of France, Portugal and Britain are analyzed and compared

Full textWhile academic literature focuses either on managers that are isolated from the hierarchy or on downward relationships, this doctoral research investigates the dynamics and the quality of the upward hierarchical relationship between a manager and his/her boss. A comprehensive research based on a qualitative and abductive double-loop methodology is conducted. We use two series of interviews with, respectively, twenty and twenty-six managers from various hierarchical levels and organizations. The first one examines autonomy and accountability issues. It leads us to propose a model of managerial relationship building on which second-stage interviews rely. We show that managers devote time and effort to building the relationship with their bosses. We identify a set of stages in which turning points mark the passage from one stage to another: (1) a seeding and learning stage during which the manager develops strategies aimed at reducing uncertainty about the superior’s expectations and way of functioning ; (2) the establishing of a “negative” (characterized by scarce interactions, low feedback and decreasing willingness of the manager to invest in the relationship) or “positive” trust (interactions are frequent and the relationship is emotionally-driven and self-sustaining) and (3) a potential decline stage

Full text"key success factors", this suggestive and vague expression seems to be much more appropriate for journalese than for an real management concept. Curiously, its actual diffusion is not supported by structured efforts in theory or development practice. The aim of this research is to develop an identification tool for key success factors. It is an applied research, a development of an operational tool for consulting experimented in stratorg, consulting company. The work is divided in four parts: 1) state of the art: both theoretical field and consulting practices are examined here, with a particular attention for stratorg's experience. The theoretical state of art consists in a semantic approach of the increasing use of this expression. 2) development of a tool for analysis: this part begins with the definition of a sound concept making easier the development of an adapted operational method. The different steps of the process are then presented. 3) testing of the tool: the principal test on "facilities management" activity is described in details. Five other cases complete the description of the utilisation and evolution of the tool. 4) conclusion and other developments: ksf seems to reveal the growing distance between strategic analysis practices and theoretical diagram presented in manuals. As regards consulting practices, different levels of knowledge must be coordinated: the tool is integrated in the methodological support of the missions. This system must itself be consistent with the consulting company vision or understanding of business, this vision itself founded on dominant theories in economy

Full textThèse confidentielle jusqu'au 06-12-2018 : The main objective of this thesis is to present an overviews of the conceptual frameworks for understanding how people seek, manage and use information in military context. Providing theoretical and methodological frameworks to question the information practices of citizens and professional groups is probably one of the contributions of information science. This research has the following objectives: 1) Describe the commander’s information practices, mainly the need, the research, the use, the sharing, and the feedback. 2) Identify the factors that interact with commander’s information practices. 3) Discerning the relationship between information practices, sensemaking and information management in the military affairs. This exploratory qualitative study is based on SMM (sense-making method) of Brenda Dervin. The methodology is enriched by the retrospective approach of sensemaking of Karl E. Weick. Twenty-eight individual interviews and a group interview are the source of research data. The study conducts to the establishment of factors influencing commander’s information practices. The main issue is the framework of commanders’ information practices dealing with the variables like trust, networks, structure, organizational culture including sensemaking

The study examines the acquisition of the ability to write different types of text, and the work has been realized with 9-10 and 13-14 year olds, and with adults. Subjects were asked to produce narratives and descriptives with the help of a computer the ability to write texts was assessed by studying the implementation of the processes of planning and reviewing which have been defined by hayes & flower in their model. It appeans that an expert functionning in written production requires the processes to be well mastered (namely they must, in the same time, require less time and be more efficient) it is also possible to say that nar rative structure has an effect on the production task ; actually it makes the management of the task easier, but only in expert writers who master the narrative structure very well. To complete results obtained, it is necessary to evoke the capacity of the working memory and the level of metacognitive development, in so far as factors which contribute to have access to the expertise in writing texts

Full textAfter a review of the literature, the topic of this research results from dissatisfactions with the fields of strategic direction of firm's development and of relationship between diversification and performance. The goal is the setting-up of an analysis framework of performance factors, in diversification by acquisition. This research is based upon a clinical and longitudinal paradigm and fifteen pechiney group's acquisitions (between 1982 and 1992) with an access to the group's internal data (strategic, economic and financial data along with twenty nine managers interviews). In the absence of a consensus on the definition of a diversification concept, the reseracher privileges a unit of analys is by means of the strategic segmentation tools in order to evaluate activity changes. The unit of analysis is the elementary activity (business) defined by three dimensions : customer functions, customer groups; technologies (abell, 1980). An adapted grid allows to characterize the strategic direction of moves beyond the motivations formulated by the strategic plan, in particular by referring to unintentional moves of diversification. After taking into account the limits and amendments of rumelt's model (1974) on the relationship between the diversification and the performance of development strategies, the researcher suggests an analysis framework with the strategy implementation. The integration process of acquisitions is analysed through performance indicators in terms of efficiency and effectiveness (simon, 1983)

Within a socio-constructivist perpective, knowledge is structured, used and re constructed through action in a social context, and organizational knowledge is knowledge relevant for organizational action. The state of the art orientates this research towards logic of discovery. The goal is to understand bad-known phenomena and to provoke the emergence of new theoretical elements. It is based on the principles of abduction. It elabores conjectures on the mechanisms of organizational knowledge construction and propôsitions about the effects of planning practices on knowledge construction. .

Full textThe socio-economic dynamics determine gender relations and the allocation of productive resources. In this area, the development of foodstuff and vegetable cultivation has forged a new agricultural context that we want to study in this work. There was a transformation of actors involved, of the spatial changes, of gender relations and the access to resources. This research is to identify the significant dynamics that accompanied this agricultural transition, to show that agricultural reconversion does not occur in the same way for women and men and to review the specificities of their new economic activities. The development of gender asymmetries, of the women activities, equal status and rights between the sexes do not lead to equality of power between men and women and equitable access to productive resources since many aspects of Bamun culture (crop specialization, division of labor) maintains a hierarchy in favor of men and reinforce the superiority of their status, their functions and activities

Full textThis thesis deals with the urbanisation process in congo, related especially to the construction of residential buildings adapted to the income level of the majority, its costs and propositions to improve the manufacturing process of construction materials, as well as the lay out of the urban area, to fit in with the development plan for the cities of dolisie and mossendjo, located in the niari region of congo. After a first methodology section, the second section, having analysed the urbanisation and lay out of the two selected towns : dolisie (population - 11,000 in 1960, 76,000 in 1992, the third largest town of the country, after brazzaville and pointe-noire) and mossendjo (population - 29,000 in 1992, fifth largest town) and a general presentation of the urbanisation in the niari region, development (of housing estates) and a socio-economic analysis of the two towns, the author gives concrete proposals to solve the serious problem of uncontrolled urbanisation that congo, and africa as a whole, are faced with. These are essentially based on the conclusions of a personal study by the author. In the third section, jean-romuald mambou studies the construction materials, especially burnt bricks and has analyses and criticises its traditional manufacturing process. The proposals submitted in this chapter are based on laboratory analysis and examples of the techniques used in togo, as well as on a production cost surevey. These proposals have been developed in detail, leading up to the proposition of a model brick kiln, called the "intermittent fumace with curved and perforated trays". Full textThis thesis focuses on changes in career management practices occuring in large companies located in france: the phenomenon observed between 1990 and 1996, characterized by the progressive abandoning of the concept of career, and the simultaneous emergence of the concept of employability, poses the question of the possible meaning of this semantic shift; alternatively, it could reveal the employer's desire to maintain their involvement in the management of people's development, and their desire to legitimize a radical transformation of the employment relationship through an appropriate managerial rhetoric. On the basis of a resolute constructivist position, the author explores the idea of the continuity of a promise principle in the employment relationship, via the substitute of a promise of employability for a career promise that has came in for a great deal of criticism in recent years. The attempt to reintroduce the idea of promise at a time when the notion of flexibility is prevailing, leads to an ambitious conception of hrm, since it refutes the idea of an ineluctable disengagement of employers in career management of qualified people. The research presented here aims at offering another solution to managerial philosophies too often exclusively based on non-disputed ideologies. Three monographs on young graduate executives, completed by the analysis of the economic, sociological and managerial literature devoted to career, make it possible - in the first part - to identify credible reasons for the employers commitment to "career-related" promises while two case studies (the first one dealing with edf-gdf, the second with a consulting firm), presented in the second part, contribute to creating a possible foundation for the notion of "employability-related" promise. This thesis, which does not deny the obstacles existing in the process of elaborating a promise of employability, leads to the question of the investments that firms are willing to accept, in order to exert an influence on their future and that of other people

Full textEquity warrants are contingent claims issued by companies together with other securities (bonds, shares. . . ) Or alone. They answer two aims : some middle size companies expect to finance their growth, when biggest companies try to strengthen their capital control. Warrants provide a delayed increase of the capital of the firm, and this one is responsible of a dilution effect. These financial securities have characteristics which differ from call-options, especially in regard to their usual longest maturity. So, a specific approach is justified for valuation of warrants and exercise strategies. The models based on Black-Scholes option pricing model can be used only for valuation of warrants before their maturity. The formula must be corrected by a dilution factor. The valuation of warrants after their issue. Imply the use of option models on the equity of the firm and not on the common stock. The strategies of simultaneous exercise of warrants at maturity are optimal only in few cases. The sequential exercise strategies are usually the best ones. The analysis of the French market shows that warrants are in most cases exercised before their maturity. The exercise decision appears to be. .

Full textCompanies wishing to expand or to become more efficient try to come up with new products or services. However, in the information and communication technology field, a lot of innovations do not meet user requirements. The purpose of our research work is to identify, through the study of human interactions, the mechanisms of innovative projects, in order to find the best ways to save time and / or avoid certain errors. Several case studies in the field, using an inductive approach, bring to light practices often used in the development of innovative projects. Then flexible methodology (from problematic to requirement model) is built and becomes a real toolbox (understanding the situation in order to be able to propose or to make the best decisions)
