Abstract:
This thesis describes investigations into cryofixation by the plunge-cooling technique, at ambient pressure. The objective was to characterise coolants which are commonly used for cryofixation, so that the structure and chemistry of biological specimens may be preserved in a more life-like state. The work began with the design of a suitable cooling device. This was developed further into a large test-bed apparatus which was used in both biological and methodological experiments. The large cooling apparatus demonstrated for the first time that ethane was a superior coolant under forced convecti

Abstract:
Cryogen spray cooling (CSC) is an effective method to minimize epidermal damage during laser treatment of various cutaneous anomalies such as port wine stains (PWS). We examined the mechanism of heat removal by CSC from skin, and heat removal was compared for CSC and contact cooling, another precooling method for cutaneous laser therapy. Next, we examined the heat removal ability of various cryogen delivery devices using a skin phantom and an inverse heat conduction algorithm. Third, the droplet characteristics were evaluated and correlated with heat removal in the skin phantom. An ex vivo stu

Due to various reactions of skin or biological tissue react toward the absorption and scattering of different light waves. Every kind of wavelengths of laser beam can be used to treat different pathological changes. To avoid the skin or biological tissue burned down or necrotic during the laser treatment process, the study on the heat transfer reaction of skin or biological tissue in the laser irradiation is very important. Abstract:
Evaporative cooling is an alternative and efficient method of cooling in dry climates. When a liquid evaporates into the surrounding gas, the energy required for the change of phase produces a cooling effect. The wet bulb depression is the measure of potential for evaporative cooling. Greater the wet bulb depression greater is the cooling effect, and vice versa. The residential desert cooler, apart from cooling the air increases the humidity of the air in the room by absorbing moisture from the water supplied to the cooler. This may result in an undesirable increase in humidity level. Allerg

博士
國立中興大學
應用數學系所
104
In medical cosmetology, laser energy must be properly controlled to avoid unnecessary thermal damage of normal tissue due to excessive irradiation. When a laser source is applied to a specific target that is very close to the surface tissue, residual heat may damage the surface tissue even after the laser treatment is halted. In the laser treatment, laser heat sources may apply as the multiple-points around the specific target that the distance among these multiple-points are very close. The thermal energies may accumulate due to the effects of the interactions
