Abstract:
In previous work, we have proposed a service mechanism which automatically syncs the file resources among discrete mobile devices. The mechanism includes four modules. The role-based access control module (RBAC) defined an organization policy which constructs some rules for file resources accessing. The user identification module dispatches a user some specific role (s) with relevant permission (s) and constraint (s) to access organization file resources. The en-capsulation/de-capsulation module enforces the JXTA protocol to sync the file resource synchronization over a mobile peer-to-peer network. The knowledge base module stores various organization file resources in the proposed service mechanism. However, the service mechanism faces an important challenge about data security. How to securely sync organization file resources among discrete mobile devices is worth exploring. In this study, we enforces some cryptographic techniques, including advanced encryption standard (AES), Triple data encryption standards (Triple-DES), and data encryption standards (DES), to examine secure synchronization of organization file resources among discrete mobile devices. The experiment results show the proposed mechanism is secure to automatically sync file resources among discrete mobile devices. The contribution of this work is to solve data security issue in syncing organization file resources among discrete mobile devices. We also strengthen an organization mobility to acquire the file resources by a mobile device in anywhere.

Abstract:
Based on interviews with the Ficusia animation team and professionals from Infinite Frameworks Studios, it was found that the lip and jaw movements in Ficusia were too fast, making them appear less realistic. This study aims to improve the quality of lip-sync animation in Ficusia using the viseme-based method, which allows for more natural lip and jaw movements. The viseme-based method was chosen because it is more suitable for 3D animation, producing smoother lip movements that are better integrated with facial expressions compared to the phoneme-based method, which tends to be rigid. A qualitative case study approach was conducted on the first episode of Ficusia, which contains scenes with predominantly human mouth shapes. Primary data were obtained through interviews with experienced animators and supervisors, while secondary data were gathered from literature. The results show that the viseme-based method can enhance the quality of lip-sync, create more natural animation, and improve the integration between lip movements and character expressions. This method is considered effective by professional animators and is expected to serve as a reference for producing realistic lip-sync in 3D animation. Abstract:
In recent years, cloud sync & share storage services, provided by academic and research institutions, have become a daily workplace environment for many local user groups in the High Energy Physics (HEP) community. These, however, are primarily disconnected and deployed in isolation from one another, even though new technologies have been developed and integrated to further increase the value of data. The EU-funded CS3MESH4EOSC project is connecting locally and individually provided sync and share services, and scaling them up to the European level and beyond. It aims to deliver the ScienceMesh service, an interoperable platform to easily sync and share data across institutions and extend functionalities by connecting to other research services using streamlined sets of interoperable protocols, APIs and deployment methodologies. This supports multiple distributed application workflows: data science environments, collaborative editing and data transfer services. In this paper, we present the architecture of ScienceMesh and the technical design of its reference implementation, a platform that allows organizations to join the federated service infrastructure easily and to access application services outof-the-box. We discuss the challenges faced during the process, which include diversity of sync & share platforms (Nextcloud, Owncloud, Seafile and others), absence of global user identities and user discovery, lack of interoperable protocols and APIs, and access control and protection of data endpoints. We present the rationale for the design decisions adopted to tackle these challenges and describe our deployment architecture based on Kubernetes, which enabled us to utilize monitoring and tracing functionalities. We conclude by reporting on the early user experience with ScienceMesh.

Abstract:
Up to 100 billion devices will be seeking to visually map out our existence over the internet by 2020 (UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser 2014). Just as the urban is a forcefield “of spatial transformations… that takes many different morphological forms” (Brenner 2014), this paper explores another underlying forcefield: our visual relationship with data. The most important piece of data, the individual, exists in the city as both prey and predator; having evolved from a “passive aesthetic view of the city” (Appleyard 1979, 144); transformed through shared territory (Evans and Jones 2008); and forged into impressively intricate sets of power relations through collective intentionality (Searle 2011). Through the presentation of self (Goffman, 1969, cited in Appleyard 1979, 146) we inhabit another home: the digital; in which we are simultaneously co-existent and removed by synchronisation of data. Traditionally, the software authoring the physical production of ‘space/hardware’ has been value driven (Raban, 1974, 128, cited in Appleyard 1979, 146). In a parallel universe, algorithms drive the data. For Ellis (2012) it is in the software, that meaning resides. What then is the allure of data to the individual? And what is the allure of the individual to data? It lies arguably in the perception of power and control through meaning (Appleyard, Searle et al.). We seek in the new reality to “discover where the real power lies” (Appleyard 1979, 146). Curiously, the power of data appears to increase the irrelevancy of ownership, between “ours” and “theirs” (Appleyard 1979, 152). This paper analyses past, present, and future states of data production. The data we get from data; data produced from objects; and objects produced from data. In closing, a speculative working hypothesis is presented of visual data production, which hopefully encourages further research reconciling data with meaning in the context of visual sustainability.

Abstract:
Migraines are the most common cause of chronic pain. Effective, non-pharmacological strategies to reduce migraine load, like exercise, are needed, but it is unclear how exercise timing and chronotype modulate the effects. We sought to determine the effects of time-of-day of exercise, and synchrony with one’s chronotype, on migraine load. We performed a pilot cross-over randomized trial where participants with chronic migraine completed two one-month exercise interventions, consisting of either morning exercise (before 09:00 a.m.) or evening exercise (after 7:00 p.m.) in a randomized repeated measures cross-over design (Clinical Trial #NCT04553445). Synchrony was determined by exercise time and chronotype (i.e., a morning type participant exercising in the morning is ‘in-sync,’ while an evening type participant exercising in the morning is ‘out-of-sync’). Migraine burden, and anthropometric assessment occurred before and after each month of exercise. Data was analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA with significance accepted at p < 0.05. When comparing morning and evening exercise, there was no significant improvements in any migraine-related parameters. However, when comparing in-sync and out-of-sync exercise, we found that migraine burden was only improved following in-sync exercise, while no benefits were seen in out-of-sync exercise. Our data suggests that exercise timing has limited impact, but synchrony with chronotype may be essential to decrease migraine load in chronic migraineurs.

Full text
Abstract:
The need for real-time data synchronization in fuel stations has led to widespread adoption of cloud-based streaming services such as AWS Kinesis, which allows for high-throughput data ingestion and event processing but at the cost of increased complexity, latency, and additional operational expenses. Fuel controllers generate a constant stream of transactional data that must be transmitted to the cloud efficiently and with minimal delay. However, the reliance on Kinesis and Lambda introduces multiple processing stages that can degrade real-time performance. This paper explores an alternative approach using MongoDB Sync, enabling direct synchronization from local MongoDB instances within fuel controllers to cloud-hosted MongoDB databases. By eliminating the need for event-driven computation layers, such as Lambda, and reducing dependency on cloud-managed streaming solutions, MongoDB Sync offers a simplified, cost-effective, and low-latency data update mechanism. The proposed architecture ensures that fuel transactions and ATG data are continuously and reliably synchronized without the need for intermediary processing layers. This study examines the challenges of implementing MongoDB Sync in fuel station environments, evaluates key performance metrics such as latency and resource utilization, and presents a comparative analysis with Kinesis-based solutions to determine the effectiveness of the proposed approach in enhancing operational efficiency while minimizing costs.

Abstract:
The first synchronization clustering (SynC) algorithm based on an extensive Kuromato model was presented in 2010. In 2017, an effective synchronization clustering (ESynC) algorithm, inspired by SynC algorithm and a linear version of Vicsek model, was proposed. When facing complex data distributions, ESynC algorithm may regard an irregular and whole cluster as some micro-clusters. To conquer this shortcoming, a combined clustering algorithm based on ESynC algorithm and a merging judgement process of micro-clusters (CESynC) is presented. CESynC algorithm first uses ESynC algorithm to detect clusters or micro-clusters, then merges those conjoint micro-clusters by using a merging judgement process. For some datasets that ESynC and SynC cannot detect correct clusters, CESynC can capture natural clusters. From the simulation experiments, we observe that CESynC can get better (or the same) clustering results than (or as) that of ESynC in many cases. We also observe that the clustering results of CESynC and ESynC are often better than that of SynC. Therefore, we can say CESynC can often obtain better clustering quality than ESynC and SynC in some kinds of datasets. Further comparison experiments with some classical clustering algorithms demonstrate the clustering effect of CESynC.

Abstract:
Background and Aims Stuttering as a communication disorder can cause severe problems in interpersonal communication and affect the quality of life of the sufferer. It is known as a treatable behavior, so this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of hemi-sync audio therapy in improving hearing skills and reducing stuttering in children Methods The research design is quasi-experimental (pretest-posttest design without a control group). The study population comprised primary school children with stuttering disorders living in Mashhad City, Iran. Of these population, 10 students diagnosed with high auditory sensitivity were recruited using the Guitar stuttering test and Malayeri auditory processing disorder questionnaire. Then, they were treated with hemi-sync therapy in 12 sessions for three months. Research data were analyzed using the independent t test in SPSS software, version 21. Results The results showed that hemi-sync audio therapy effectively increased auditory skills in stuttering children (P<0.05). The hemi-sync therapy reduced hearing problems after improving auditory skills and stuttering. Conclusion Because children with stuttering may have hearing impairments, increasing this skill with hemi-sync therapy can be used as an intervention and rehabilitation basis.

Abstract:
CubeSat designers are increasingly looking to incorporate delicate structures and optics into their payloads. These delicate payloads, however, may not survive the required absolute-worst-case launch vibration testing needed for flight certification. To help address this problem, and to better match testing conditions to real-world launch environments, this thesis introduces Sync, a compact 1/4U CubeSat payload designed to collect data on the vibrations and thermal environments CubeSats experience inside a deployer on the way to orbit. This data can be used to better understand the launch environment for different vehicles, and help develop new, more realistic testing guidelines that could enable more delicate payloads to be launched.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Svantesson, Dan Jerker B. Solving the Internet Jurisdiction Puzzle. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198795674.001.0001.

Abstract:
Internet jurisdiction has emerged as one of the greatest and most urgent challenges online, severely affecting areas as diverse as e-commerce, data privacy, law enforcement, content take-downs, cloud computing, e-health, Cyber security, intellectual property, freedom of speech, and Cyberwar. In this innovative book, Professor Svantesson presents a vision for a new approach to Internet jurisdiction––for both private international law and public international law––based on sixteen years of research dedicated specifically to the topic. The book demonstrates that our current paradigm remains attached to a territorial thinking that is out of sync with our modern world, especially, but not only, online. Having made the claim that our adherence to the territoriality principle is based more on habit than on any clear and universally accepted legal principles, Professor Svantesson advances a new jurisprudential framework for how we approach jurisdiction. He also proposes several other reform initiatives such as the concept of ‘investigative jurisdiction’ and an approach to geo-blocking, aimed at equipping us to solve the Internet jurisdiction puzzle. In addition, the book provides a history of Internet jurisdiction, and challenges our traditional categorisation of different types of jurisdiction. It places Internet jurisdiction in a broader context and outlines methods for how properly to understand and work with rules of Internet jurisdiction. While Solving the Internet Puzzle paints a clear picture of the concerns involved and the problems that needs to be overcome, this book is distinctly aimed at finding practical solutions anchored in a solid theoretical framework.

Abstract:
DNA sequences contain vast amounts of biological data and computer algorithms play an important role in processing these data for human inspection. Here we describe an updated computer-generated auditory display tool to be used as stand-alone audio or as a complement to a visual display for DNA sequence inspection. The auditory display uses musical notes to represent the data in relation to the process of gene expression or DNA replication. Given the use of musical notes in the auditory display raises the possibility these may be considered algorithmic music. To pursue this notion further the auditory displays were used in a music studio setting outside of the science laboratory. Musicians were challenged to play in-sync with the audio and to embellish the melodic and harmonic content of the auditory display. New music compositions featuring the auditory displays were recorded and performed live in outreach events to promote a wider understanding of the processes of gene expression and DNA replication and how gene sequence information affects human health conditions.

Hobbs, Christopher, Roy Upton, and STEFAN GAFNER. Cordyceps Botanical Adulterants Prevention Bulletin. ABC-AHP-NCNPR Botanical Adulterants Prevention Program, 2024. https://doi.org/10.59520/bapp.bapb/ydsi9045.

Abstract:
Because of the great value of cordyceps (Ophiocordyceps sinensis, syn. Cordyceps sinensis), its rarity in the wild, and the difficulty of cultivating it, adulteration and substitution frequently occurs. The authenticity of any cordyceps raw material or finished product to be used in dietary or food supplements, or in products falling into another regulatory category, should be determined, if appropriate, by both DNA and chemical analysis. This is the case even when the mycelium is grown on nutritive substrates such as brown rice (Oryza sativa, Poaceae) and the species and strain of the fungal culture used as inoculum is confirmed, because other contaminating fungal species have been observed growing out preferentially over the intended species. Traditional Chinese medical practitioners and consumers familiar with the material known by the Chinese dong chong xiao cao (冬虫夏草) may continue to judge identity and quality morphologically but with the understanding that due to its expense, it is a highly adulterated material. This bulletin provides a summary on issues regarding the adulteration of products labeled to contain cordyceps for the herbal products industry, and those with interest in the quality of cordyceps in general. In addition to data on adulteration, the bulletin contains information about the taxonomy, importance in the market, analytical methods to detect adulteration, and consequences for the consumer and the industry.

Mackie, S. J., C. M. Furlong, P. K. Pedersen, and O. H. Ardakani. Stratigraphy, facies heterogeneities, and structure in the Montney Formation of northeastern British Columbia: relation to H2S distribution. Natural Resources Canada/CMSS/Information Management, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.4095/329796.

Full text
Abstract:
In the last decade, the Lower Triassic Montney Formation of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) has undergone significant development, providing a rich dataset to study structural, stratigraphic, and facies control on the variations in hydrogen sulphide (H2S) gas content. Splitting the siltstone dominated Montney into the three regional members (i.e., Lower Montney, Middle Montney, and Upper Montney) allows for detailed analysis on the enrichment of H2S within a local-scale study area in northeastern British Columbia (BC). Within this study area, Upper Montney H2S content increases within individual parasequences both up-dip and towards the east. In addition to potential up-dip migration, there may be greater sulphur-bearing components in the east, allowing for the sulphate reduction required to generate H2S. The overlying Middle Triassic thins eastward, providing proximity to the overlying anhydrite-rich beds of the Upper Triassic Charlie Lake Formation. Further, the overlying Middle Triassic Sunset Prairie Formation has an erosional edge that corresponds with eastern elevated H2S concentrations within the Upper Montney unit. Mapped structures are syn-depositional to the Middle Triassic, potentially providing conduits for early sulphate-rich fluid migration. In the Middle and Lower Montney, elevated H2S generally occurs with proximity to the top of the Permian Belloy Formation. Within this study area, limited Lower Montney data is available and thus needs to be further corroborated with regional data. Both the Middle and Lower Montney display elevated H2S in trends that generally align with mapped faults. The faults may have acted as conduits for sulphate-rich fluids to migrate during early burial then migrate laterally through facies that may have been permeable during early burial, such as the carbonate-rich facies at the boundary between the Middle and Lower Montney. Further core and isotope analyses are required to fully understand this relationship.

Abstract:

Kindt, Roeland, Ian K Dawson, Jens-Peter B Lillesø, Alice Muchugi, Fabio Pedercini, and James M Roshetko. The one hundred tree species prioritized for planting in the tropics and subtropics as indicated by database mining. World Agroforestry, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.5716/wp21001.pdf.

Full text
Abstract:
A systematic approach to tree planting and management globally is hindered by the limited synthesis of information sources on tree uses and species priorities. To help address this, the authors ‘mined’ information from 23 online global and regional databases to assemble a list of the most frequent tree species deemed useful for planting according to database mentions, with a focus on tropical regions. Using a simple vote count approach for ranking species, we obtained a shortlist of 100 trees mentioned in at least 10 of our data sources (the ‘top-100’ species). A longer list of 830 trees that were mentioned at least five times was also compiled. Our ‘top-100’ list indicated that the family Fabaceae (syn. Leguminosae) was most common. The information associated with our mined data sources indicated that the ‘top-100’ list consisted of a complementary group of species of differing uses. These included the following: for wood (mostly for timber) and fuel production, human nutrition, animal fodder supply, and environmental service provision (varied services). Of these uses, wood was most frequently specified, with fuel and food use also highly important. Many of the ‘top-100’ species were assigned multiple uses. The majority of the ‘top-100’ species had weediness characteristics according to ‘attribute’ invasiveness databases that were also reviewed, thereby demonstrating potential environmental concerns associated with tree planting that need to be balanced against environmental and livelihood benefits. Less than half of the ‘top-100’ species were included in the OECD Scheme for the Certification of Forest Reproductive Material, thus supporting a view that lack of germplasm access is a common concern for trees. A comparison of the ‘top-100’ species with regionally-defined tree inventories indicated their diverse continental origins, as would be anticipated from a global analysis. However, compared to baseline expectations, some geographic regions were better represented than others. Our analysis assists in priority-setting for research and serves as a guide to practical tree planting initiatives. We stress that this ‘top-100’ list does not necessarily represent tree priorities for the future, but provides a starting point for also addressing representation gaps. Indeed, our primary concern going forward is with the latter.

Persson, John, Björn Rogell, and Patrik Bohman.

Full text
Abstract:
I Hjälmaren följer SLU tre lokaler. I Vänern provfiskar SLU två lokaler.

Neyedley, K., J. J. Hanley, P. Mercier-Langevin, and M. Fayek. Ore mineralogy, pyrite chemistry, and S isotope systematics of magmatic-hydrothermal Au mineralization associated with the Mooshla Intrusive Complex (MIC), Doyon-Bousquet-LaRonde mining camp, Abitibi greenstone belt, Québec. Natural Resources Canada/CMSS/Information Management, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.4095/328985.

Full text
Abstract:
The Mooshla Intrusive Complex (MIC) is an Archean polyphase magmatic body located in the Doyon-Bousquet-LaRonde (DBL) mining camp of the Abitibi greenstone belt, Québec. The MIC is spatially associated with numerous gold (Au)-rich VMS, epizonal 'intrusion-related' Au-Cu vein systems, and shear zone-hosted (orogenic?) Au deposits. To elucidate genetic links between deposits and the MIC, mineralized samples from two of the epizonal 'intrusion-related' Au-Cu vein systems (Doyon and Grand Duc Au-Cu) have been characterized using a variety of analytical techniques. Preliminary results indicate gold (as electrum) from both deposits occurs relatively late in the systems as it is primarily observed along fractures in pyrite and gangue minerals. At Grand Duc gold appears to have formed syn- to post-crystallization relative to base metal sulphides (e.g. chalcopyrite, sphalerite, pyrrhotite), whereas base metal sulphides at Doyon are relatively rare. The accessory ore mineral assemblage at Doyon is relatively simple compared to Grand Duc, consisting of petzite (Ag3AuTe2), calaverite (AuTe2), and hessite (Ag2Te), while accessory ore minerals at Grand Duc are comprised of tellurobismuthite (Bi2Te3), volynskite (AgBiTe2), native Te, tsumoite (BiTe) or tetradymite (Bi2Te2S), altaite (PbTe), petzite, calaverite, and hessite. Pyrite trace element distribution maps from representative pyrite grains from Doyon and Grand Duc were collected and confirm petrographic observations that Au occurs relatively late. Pyrite from Doyon appears to have been initially trace-element poor, then became enriched in As, followed by the ore metal stage consisting of Au-Ag-Te-Bi-Pb-Cu enrichment and lastly a Co-Ni-Se(?) stage enrichment. Grand Duc pyrite is more complex with initial enrichments in Co-Se-As (Stage 1) followed by an increase in As-Co(?) concentrations (Stage 2). The ore metal stage (Stage 3) is indicated by another increase in As coupled with Au-Ag-Bi-Te-Sb-Pb-Ni-Cu-Zn-Sn-Cd-In enrichment. The final stage of pyrite growth (Stage 4) is represented by the same element assemblage as Stage 3 but at lower concentrations. Preliminary sulphur isotope data from Grand Duc indicates pyrite, pyrrhotite, and chalcopyrite all have similar delta-34S values (~1.5 1 permille) with no core-to-rim variations. Pyrite from Doyon has slightly higher delta-34S values (~2.5 1 permille) compared to Grand Duc but similarly does not show much core-to-rim variation. At Grand Duc, the occurrence of Au concentrating along the rim of pyrite grains and associated with an enrichment in As and other metals (Sb-Ag-Bi-Te) shares similarities with porphyry and epithermal deposits, and the overall metal association of Au with Te and Bi is a hallmark of other intrusion-related gold systems. The occurrence of the ore metal-rich rims on pyrite from Grand Duc could be related to fluid boiling which results in the destabilization of gold-bearing aqueous complexes. Pyrite from Doyon does not show this inferred boiling texture but shares characteristics of dissolution-reprecipitation processes, where metals in the pyrite lattice are dissolved and then reconcentrated into discrete mineral phases that commonly precipitate in voids and fractures created during pyrite dissolution.
