Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractA parallel program may be indeterminate so that it can adapt its behavior to the number of processors available.Indeterminate programs are hard to write, understand, modify or verify. They are impossible to debug, since they may not behave the same from one run to the next.We propose a new construct, a polymorphic abstract data type called an improving value, with operations that have indeterminate behavior but simple determinate semantics. These operations allow the type of indeterminate behavior required by many parallel algorithms. We define improving values in the context of a functional programming language, but the technique can be used in procedural programs as well.

Abstract:
How does Quine argue to the indeterminacy of translation? It has always been hard to tell, but one construction goes like this: A fact is determinate only if it is empirically determinable, for empirical evidence under-determines truth about the trans-empirical; theory is underdetermined by data. Therefore, facts about the unobservable, facts of theory, are indeterminate. A fact about the meaning of a person's sentence is only determinate if it is empirically determinable. The meaning of a person's sentence is empirically determinable only if it is empirically determinable under what conditions he assents to it. The meaning of a person's sentence about something unobservable is determinable only if it is determinable what unobservable events are occurring whenever he assents to a sentence supposedly about the unobservable. It is not empirically determinable what is going on in the unobservable realm whenever someone assents to a sentence supposedly about the unobservable. Therefore it is undeterminable what a person's theory sentence means. Therefore what it means is indeterminate.

This diploma thesis concerns the methodology and subsequent analysis of the quantity of European beaver (Castor fiber) inside a beaver family. These data were collected by using camera-traps. Collection was conducted from August 2015 to August 2016 in two areas. The first area was the Czech forest and the second area was Šumava. In these areas is a different degree of saturation of the beaver population. The main objective of this study was to estimate the average size of a beaver family in two model areas using camera-traps. Suitable areas were Czech Forest and Šumava. Secondary objective was to design and test methodology and application of the camera-traps and design a way to evaluate data from the captured images.

Abstract:
Necrophagous beetles (Coleoptera) are very interesting and diverse ecological group of species with an immense impact on a natural nutrient cycle. Their main food source and breeding ground are carrions of vertebrates, human remains included. This relationship is often used in various ways by forensic entomology, but its potential was not jet fully reached, because our knowledge of biology and ecology of these beetles is very much incomplete. In this thesis I would like to explore geographic distribution, ecological requirements and developmental biology of several Central European necrophagous beetles as an outcome of their ecological and evolution strategies. For that I raised three broad research questions. Which factors are determining the local abundance of carrion beetles (Coleoptera: Silphidae)? How the current geographical distribution of open-landscape carrion beetles looks like in the Czech Republic? How the temperature affects the development of Sciodrepoides watsoni (Spence, 1813)? We found out that soil type can have significant effect on abundance of carrion beetles. They showed preference for chernozem -- Nicrophorus antennatus (Reitter), N. germanicus (Linnaeus), N. interruptus (Stephens), N. sepultor (Charpentier), Silpha obscura obscura (Herbst), T. sinuatus (Fabricius) or for fluvisol as did N. humator (Gleditsch). These findings support our hypothesis that soil type could be an important factor determining the occurrence of necrophagous European carrion beetles. To collect novel data of the current geographical distribution of carrion beetles we used 420 baited pitfall traps at 84 localities, and we collected 71 234 specimens of 15 silphid species. Among them, three endangered carrion beetle species listed on the Czech Red List of Invertebrates, were found. Two are vulnerable thermophilic species of open landscapes, Nicrophorus antennatus (Reitter, 1884) (collected around Louny and Židlochovice) and Nicrophorus germanicus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Louny, Zábřeh and Židlochovice). The third is the near threatened species, Nicrophorus sepultor Charpentier, 1825 (collected around Louny, Kutná Hora, Zábřeh and Židlochovice), which also prefers open landscapes. We studied development of common Holarctic beetle Sciodrepoides watsoni under five constant temperature regimes in laboratory (15, 18, 21, 25 and 28°C). Parameters of thermal summation models and their standard errors were calculated for each developmental stage (egg, three larval instars and pupae). We also find a new character for larval instar determination (head width) and proposed novel approach for future studies of size-based characters in instar determination.

The aim of this diploma thesis is to find suitable regression models between the chosen statistical data of transport and GDP per capita and determine whether these models are statistically significant. The first part is a theoretical introduction to the problems of transport in terms of economics, as well as a description of methods of regression analysis, which is used in the practical part. The practical part draws data from Eurostat's website that provide for this thesis sufficient statistical basis. The data are graphically processed as scatter charts, based on these are determined mathematical equation of regression. The choice of suitable regression analysis is based on coefficient of determination and significance level is alpha = 0,05.

The communication systems of Multiple Input and Multiple Output (MIMO), are systems consisting of structures that use multiple antennas, both on the transmitter and the receiver. For being transmitted via antennas, noise and path problems naturally arise, which poses a challenge for the development and optimization of MIMO systems. For these reasons, many studies focus on certain properties of the signals sent in order to minimize the effects suffered on the information during transmission. There are many different types of Space-Time Block Codes (STBC) available for two transmitting antennas, such as the cyclotomic space-time block code, Golden code, and Silver code. In this work, we present a STBC construct via totally imaginary quadratic fields, Q(√d) with d <0 and present the best STBC in terms of the criterion that we call product criteria, considering extensions of Q(√d) with d = -1, - 2, - 3, - 7, -11.

Abstract:
Given that pain is the paradigmatic example of an unpleasant experience, I aim to shed light on what pain and unpleasantness are by trying to understand what it means for a pain to be unpleasant, what the structure of unpleasantness is, and by tackling several problematic aspects of the relation between pain and unpleasantness. By doing this, I will also provide a general account of what it means for an experience that might not be a pain to be unpleasant. The thesis is organised into seven chapters and divided by three main themes: i) what the unpleasantness of pain consists in, ii) how we can account for the great phenomenal diversity among experiences of unpleasantness, and iii) which cases suggest that there could be pains that are not unpleasant. Broadly, the first two chapters deal with the first theme, the third and fourth chapter with the second theme, and the fifth and sixth chapter focus on the third theme. In the final chapter I offer a conclusion of the three main themes by providing my own view on the unpleasantness of pain. According to this account, an unpleasant experience is something felt, it is a phenomenal property of mental states, and this property should be understood using the determinable-determinate distinction. By doing all of this, this thesis will provide a detailed understanding of the nature of pain and unpleasantness

Abstract:
O correto mapeamento permite corrigir a distorção perspectiva.
