Abstract:
Abstract Introduction During the last decade, our national Joint Trauma System (JTS) has served as the reference body for trauma care throughout our military. The JTS has published 63 Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) on its website to set standards and to provide guidance for deployed providers in the management of challenging clinical scenarios. Given that there is limited burn expertise in the military, the JTS CPGs are a major source of information for most providers. It has been possible to track CPG download activity for over a year. We hypothesized that assessment of download activity would reflect the relative value of JTS CPGs. In particular, we aimed to document the value of burn-related CPGs. Methods Download activity was determined from data pulled for jts.amedd.army.mil, utilizing Google’s Digital Analytics Program (DAP), for 27 Feb 2018 to 3 Sep 2019. After refining results from all of the military down to jts.amedd.army.mil, a search was then launched to determine the top activities on the JTS webpage. An additional refinement was conducted to establish search-date parameters. Data were exported into an Excel spreadsheet for further analysis. The data were analyzed for specific titles and numbers of downloads; those downloads consistently appearing at the top of the download activity were split out and detailed. Results Downloading was consistently the top “event” or tangible action on the site. In 17 months, total CPG downloads from the JTS website were 75,901. Burn-related CPGs and supporting documents (e.g. Lund-Browder chart; resuscitation flowsheet) were downloaded 6,177 times. The next most frequently downloaded CPG was the traumatic brain injury (TBI) CPG, which was downloaded 6,041 times. If each guideline had equal distribution of downloads, they would each be downloaded 1,205 times; burn-related CPGs were download 5 times more frequently than the mean. Conclusions This study emphasizes the importance of burn-related CPGs to providers throughout the global continuum of care. These providers frequently work in expeditionary, remote and austere environments without rapid access to specialty surgical expertise. The use of detailed CPGs can help bridge this gap. Applicability of Research to Practice This model can be used for remote rural areas nationally and internationally. Computer-based tracking of CPG and educational material downloads can, furthermore, be used to identify ongoing educational needs.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between electronic journal downloads and citations and whether online electronic resource usage can be adopted as an alternative to citation for evaluation of scholarly discourse. Design/methodology/approach A consolidated 16 publishers’ COUNTER usage data of UGC-Infonet members was collected from INFLIBNET Centre. The usage was meticulously filtered from UGC-subscribed journals and institutional subscriptions. The quantitative data were analysed to establish the relationship between download, impact factor (IF) and price. Multiple regression analysis was used to assess the influence of price and IF on usage and to predict the usage when they are known and the threshold for significance was set at p < 0.05. Findings There exists a relationship between IF and downloads of journals in UGC-Infonet. Journal IF and price significantly influence usage, where journal IF plays an important role in the intensity of the use. Also, the top 25 hottest downloaded papers were journals with IF; hence, no journal without IF featured in the top 25 most downloaded journals in the consortia. The relationship between the top 25 IF journals in the consortia and download is strong (r = 0.368537). Originality/value The only account that reports on the relationship between journal IFs and downloads for UGC-Infonet consortia. Also, the influence of usage behaviour with respect to citation and price of a journal.

Abstract:
Digitized natural history data are enabling a broad range of innovative studies of biodiversity. Large-scale data aggregators such as Global Biodiversity Information facility (GBIF) and Integrated Digitized Biocollections (iDigBio) provide easy, global access to millions of specimen records contributed by thousands of collections. A developing community of eager users of specimen data – whether locality, image, trait, etc. – is perhaps unaware of the effort and resources required to curate specimens, digitize information, capture images, mobilize records, serve the data, and maintain the infrastructure (human and cyber) to support all of these activities. Tracking of specimen information throughout the research process is needed to provide appropriate attribution to the institutions and staff that have supplied and served the records. Such tracking may also allow for annotation and comment on particular records or collections by the global community. Detailed data tracking is also required for open, reproducible science. Despite growing recognition of the value and need for thorough data tracking, both technical and sociological challenges continue to impede progress. In this talk, I will present a brief vision of how application of a DOI to each iteration of a data set in a typical research project could provide attribution to the provider, opportunity for comment and annotation of records, and the foundation for reproducible science based on natural history specimen records. Sociological change – such as journal requirements for data deposition of all iterations of a data set – can be accomplished using community meetings and workshops, along with editorial efforts, as were applied to DNA sequence data two decades ago.

Abstract:
This paper argues that Dynamic Coalition Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Network exists in numerous scenarios where mobile users cluster and form coalitions, and the relationship between sizes of coalitions and distances from mobile nodes to their Point of Interest (PoI) follows exponential distributions. The P2P coalition patterns of mobile users and their exponential distribution behavior can be utilized for efficient and adaptive content file download of cellular users. An adaptive protocol named COADA (COalition-aware Adaptive content DownloAd) is designed that (a) blends cellular and P2P (e.g., WiFi or Bluetooth) wireless interfaces, (b) leverages the clustering of people into P2P coalitions when moving towards PoI, and (c) utilizes exponential-coalition-size function of the Dynamic Coalition P2P Network to minimize the cellular download and meet content file download deadline. With COADA protocol, mobile nodes periodically sample the current P2P coalition size and predict the future coalition size using the exponential function. In order to decide how much file data is available in P2P coalition channels versus how much file data must be downloaded from the server over the cellular network, Online Codes techniques are used and tune cellular download timers to meet the file download deadline. The simulation results show that COADA achieves considerable performance improvements by downloading less file data from the cellular channel and more file data over the P2P coalition network while meeting the file download deadline.

Abstract:
Abstract SeisIO for the Julia language is a new geophysical data framework that combines the intuitive syntax of a high-level language with performance comparable to FORTRAN or C. Benchmark comparisons against recent versions of popular programs for seismic data download and analysis demonstrate significant improvements in file read speed and orders-of-magnitude improvements in memory overhead. Because the Julia language natively supports parallel computing with an intuitive syntax, we benchmark test parallel download and processing of multiweek segments of contiguous data from two sets of 10 broadband seismic stations, and find that SeisIO outperforms two popular Python-based tools for data downloads. The current capabilities of SeisIO include file read support for several geophysical data formats, online data access using a variety of services, and optimized versions of several common data processing operations. Tutorial notebooks and extensive documentation are available to improve the user experience. As an accessible example of performant scientific computing for the next generation of researchers, SeisIO offers ease of use and rapid learning without sacrificing computational efficiency.

Abstract:
In this paper, we propose a two-step data-analytic approach to the promotion planning for mobile applications (apps). In the first step, we use historical sales data to estimate the app demand model and quantify the effect of price promotions on download volume. The estimation results reveal two interesting characteristics of the relationship between price promotion and download volume of mobile apps: (1) the magnitude of the direct immediate promotion effect is declining within a multiday promotion; and (2) due to the visibility effect (i.e., apps ranked high on the download chart are more visible to consumers), a price promotion also has an indirect effect on download volume by affecting app rank, and this effect can persist after the promotion ends. Based on the empirically estimated demand model, we propose a moving planning window heuristic to construct a promotion policy. Our heuristic promotion policy consists of shorter and more frequent promotions. We show that the proposed policy can increase the app lifetime revenue by around 10%.

Abstract:
The need arises in parallel downloads of multilingual information for powerful graphical and analytical tools, as information with a variety of different languages distributed in different Web pages and the databases are heterogeneous and uneven in data grid. Petri net is a powerful graphical and mathematics tool for describing the concurrent, asynchronous and dynamic events. The parallel downloading of multilingual information was modeled and analyzed using extended timed colored Petri net (ETSdCPN). In ETSdCPN model, the color represents different languages information, and the time duration associated with place instead of transition is a function of tokens instead of constant. The reachable parallel download graph (RPDG) of ETSdCPN is defined. Finally, some important results such as rate of satisfaction and makespan of multilingual information parallel downloads are gotten by analyzing reachability of Petri net.

Abstract:
Instagram has been used by many groups, such as business people, academics, to politicians, to take advantage of the insights gained by processing and analyzing Instagram data for various purposes. However, before processing and analyzing data, users must first pass data collection or downloading from Instagram. The problem faced is that most data collection methods are still done manually as for many parties that offer Instagram account data download services with various price options. This research applied a web scraping method to automatically build a web-based Instagram account data download application so that several parties can use it. The web scraping method was chosen because by using this method, researchers do not need to use Instagram's Application Programming Interface (API), which has access restrictions in retrieving data on Instagram. In this study, application testing was conducted on 15 Instagram accounts with various publications, namely between 100 and 11000. Based on the download data analysis results, the application of the web scraping method to download Instagram account data can successfully download a maximum of 2412 account data. In this application, users can download Instagram account data to Data Collection and then manage it like deleting and exporting data collection in the form of CSV, Excel, or JSON.

Abstract:
Background Despite the benefits offered by an abundance of health applications promoted on app marketplaces (e.g., Google Play Store), the wide adoption of mobile health and e-health apps is yet to come. Objective This study aims to investigate the current landscape of smartphone apps that focus on improving and sustaining health and wellbeing. Understanding the categories that popular apps focus on and the relevant features provided to users, which lead to higher user scores and downloads will offer insights to enable higher adoption in the general populace. This study on 1,000 mobile health applications aims to shed light on the reasons why particular apps are liked and adopted while many are not. Methods User-generated data (i.e. review scores) and company-generated data (i.e. app descriptions) were collected from app marketplaces and manually coded and categorized by two researchers. For analysis, Artificial Neural Networks, Random Forest and Naïve Bayes Artificial Intelligence algorithms were used. Results The analysis led to features that attracted more download behavior and higher user scores. The findings suggest that apps that mention a privacy policy or provide videos in description lead to higher user scores, whereas free apps with in-app purchase possibilities, social networking and sharing features and feedback mechanisms lead to higher number of downloads. Moreover, differences in user scores and the total number of downloads are detected in distinct subcategories of mobile health apps. Conclusion This study contributes to the current knowledge of m-health application use by reviewing mobile health applications using content analysis and machine learning algorithms. The content analysis adds significant value by providing classification, keywords and factors that influence download behavior and user scores in a m-health context.

As universities cut library funding and forego expensive journal subscriptions, many academic organizations and researchers, including the American Educational Research Association (AERA), are moving toward open-access publications that are freely downloadable by anyone with a working internet connection. However, the impact of paywalls on the consumption of academic articles is unclear. We provide novel evidence on this question by exploiting a natural experiment in which six high-impact, usually gated AERA journals became open access for a 2-month period in 2017. Using monthly download data and an always-open-access journal as a comparison group, we show that making journals open access likely increased article downloads in those journals by 55% to 95% per month. Given a per-article download price of $36, this suggests a relatively elastic response: The average price elasticity of demand for downloads is 1.2, with individual journal elasticities ranging from 0.6 to 2.

Abstract:
This work proposed a clustering scheme for Point Of Interests’ (POIs’) geo data sharing in Vehicular Social Network (VSN). In the proposed scheme, some vehicles can form a cluster to downloaded POIs’ geo data when they are approaching to a new set of POIs. One vehicle is chosen as the cluster head to download POIs’ geo data using its cellular network and shares the downloaded POIs’ geo data to its cluster members using IEEE 802.11p network. This work (1) uses GPS to get vehicles’ locations to calculate the timing of triggering the clustering process, and (2) proposes a clustering method to organize a group of vehicles that are proximate with each other for a while during their touring to become a cluster. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme can have higher available distance and higher successful ratio of the complete sharing of downloaded POIs’ geo data.

Findings This study provides evidence that log file analytics data appear to grossly over-report due to traffic from robots that are difficult to identify and screen. The study also introduces a proof-of-concept prototype that makes the research method easily accessible to IR managers who seek accurate counts of Citable Content Downloads. Research limitations/implications The method described in this paper does not account for direct access to Citable Content Downloads that originate outside Google Search properties. Originality/value This paper proposes that IR managers adopt a new reporting framework that classifies IR page views and download activity into three categories that communicate metrics about user activity related to the research process. It also proposes that IR managers rely on a hybrid of existing Google Services to improve reporting of Citable Content Downloads and offers a prototype web service where IR managers can test results for their repositories.

Abstract:
Distributed multimedia streaming systems are increasingly popular due to technological advances, and numerous streaming services are available today. On servers or proxy caches, there is a huge scaling challenge in supporting thousands of concurrent users that request delivery of high-rate, time-dependent data like audio and video, because this requires transfers of large amounts of data through several sub-systems within a streaming node. Unnecessary copy operations in the data path can therefore contribute significantly to the resource consumption of streaming operations. Despite previous research, off-the-shelf operating systems have only limited support for data paths that have been optimized for streaming. Additionally, system call overhead has grown with newer operating systems editions, adding to the cost of data movement. Frequently, it is argued that these issues can be ignored because of the continuing growth of CPU speeds. However, such an argument fails to take problems of modern streaming systems into account. The dissipation of heat generated by disks and high-end CPUs is a major problem of data centers, which would be alleviated if less power-hungry CPUs could be used. The power budget of mobile devices, which are increasingly used for streaming as well, is tight, and reduced power consumption an important issue. In this paper, we prove that these operations consume a large amount of resources, and we therefore revisit the data movement problem and provide a comprehensive evaluation of possible streaming data I/O paths in the Linux 2.6 kernel. We have implemented and evaluated several enhanced mechanisms and show how to provide support for more efficient memory usage and reduction of user/kernel space switches for content download and streaming applications. In particular, we are able to reduce the CPU usage by approximately 27% compared to the best approach without kernel modifications, by removing copy operations and system calls for a streaming scenario in which RTP headers must be added to stored data for sequence numbers and timing.

Abstract:
Abstract Summary Sequencing data resources have increased exponentially in recent years, as has interest in large-scale meta-analyses of integrated next-generation sequencing datasets. However, curation of integrated datasets that match a user’s particular research priorities is currently a time-intensive and imprecise task. MetaSeek is a sequencing data discovery tool that enables users to flexibly search and filter on any metadata field to quickly find the sequencing datasets that meet their needs. MetaSeek automatically scrapes metadata from all publicly available datasets in the Sequence Read Archive, cleans and parses messy, user-provided metadata into a structured, standard-compliant database and predicts missing fields where possible. MetaSeek provides a web-based graphical user interface and interactive visualization dashboard, as well as a programmatic API to rapidly search, filter, visualize, save, share and download matching sequencing metadata. Availability and implementation The MetaSeek online interface is available at https://www.metaseek.cloud/. The MetaSeek database can also be accessed via API to programmatically search, filter and download all metadata. MetaSeek source code, metadata scrapers and documents are available at https://github.com/MetaSeek-Sequencing-Data-Discovery/metaseek/.

Abstract:
Background Despite the worldwide growth in mobile health (mHealth) tools and the possible benefits of mHealth for patients and health care providers, scientific research examining factors explaining the adoption level of mHealth tools remains scarce. Objective We performed an experimental vignette study to investigate how four factors related to the business model of an mHealth app affect its adoption and users’ willingness to pay: (1) the revenue model (ie, sharing data with third parties vs accepting advertisements); (2) the data protection model (General Data Protection Regulation [GDPR]-compliant data handling vs nonGDPR-compliant data handling); (3) the recommendation model (ie, doctor vs patient recommendation); and (4) the provider model (ie, pharmaceutical vs medical association provider). In addition, health consciousness, health information orientation, and electronic health literacy were explored as intrapersonal predictors of adoption. Methods We conducted an experimental study in three countries, Spain (N=800), Germany (N=800), and the Netherlands (N=416), to assess the influence of multiple business models and intrapersonal characteristics on the willingness to pay and intention to download a health app. Results The revenue model did not affect willingness to pay or intentions to download the app in all three countries. In the Netherlands, data protection increased willingness to pay for the health app (P<.001). Moreover, in all three countries, data protection increased the likelihood of downloading the app (P<.001). In Germany (P=.04) and the Netherlands (P=.007), a doctor recommendation increased both willingness to pay and intention to download the health app. For all three countries, apps manufactured in association with a medical organization were more likely to be downloaded (P<.001). Finally, in all three countries, men, younger individuals, those with higher levels of education, and people with a health information orientation were willing to pay more for adoption of the health app and had a higher intention to download the app. Conclusions The finding that people want their data protected by legislation but are not willing to pay more for data protection suggests that in the context of mHealth, app privacy protection cannot be leveraged as a selling point. However, people do value a doctor recommendation and apps manufactured by a medical association, which particularly influence their intention to download an mHealth app.

Abstract:
In 2016, the National Book Council, the ISBN agency for Malta, released its ISBN database online. A few months later, the ISBN database was enhanced with an open-data feature that enables users to download the search results in a single file with read and write access. The database includes all the ISBN data of Malta except for some records and data that were lost during the period before 2013 when paper data storage of ISBN records was the common practice. The implementation of an ISBN electronic database now ensures that no data go missing and facilitates the preservation of metadata. As added value, the open-data system provides access to all of the ISBN records as listed in the database, which means that virtually all of the ISBN data elements can be downloaded from the database. Researchers, publishers, authors, and booksellers all stand to benefit from this open ISBN data system.

Abstract:
As mobile game distribution costs gets near zero, the number of available games on app stores, which is already enormous, continues to grow. It gets increasingly difficult for game developers to build a mobile game and achieve the top positions on charts. With it in mind, this paper’s main purpose is to investigate the relationship between game features and the performance achieved by mobile games in terms of number of downloads and gross revenue. A total of 37 game features were analyzed in order to study how each of them influence mobile games’ performance on app stores. The performance of mobile games is measured based on their current position in download and revenue charts on Google Play store. A linear regression model that maps game features and charts performance is trained using a M5 prime classifier and data from 64 mobile games. Results show how each game feature influences the download and revenue performance of successful mobile games.

Abstract:
93 Background: In 2019, the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC) developed an immuno-oncology (IO) wallet card to address the continuous need for immune-related adverse event education and resources, particularly for IO patients and the non-oncology providers from whom they receive care. The wallet card was distributed to ACCC’s membership of cancer programs via mailings and online, which included a short survey for users to complete at time of download. Methods: To better understand the demographics and motivations of individuals who access the IO wallet card, an exploratory analysis was performed on data collected through the download survey. Data included the survey responses from all downloads between March and September 2019 (n = 141), which was then cleaned to remove duplicates, incomplete responses, and responses from ACCC staff, international users, pharmaceutical representatives, consultants, and patients. Analysis was then performed on the resulting data set of downloads from US-based health care providers (n = 86). Results: Cancer program administrators and nurses accounted for the majority of downloads (30% and 20%, respectively), as well as individuals from comprehensive community cancer programs (44%) and NCI-designated comprehensive cancer programs (16%). Fewer downloads came from other oncology disciplines (2-9%) and small practices (2-6%). Survey responses indicated that the majority of downloads were due to the cancer program not already having the resource (47%), or for comparison with a wallet card developed by the cancer program (15%) or another organization (10%). Patient education materials provided by these institutions included wallet cards (45%), as well as print materials developed by the cancer program (16%), another professional organization (7%), or distributed by drug companies (5%). Conclusions: These finding shed light on the primary audiences accessing the IO wallet card, how this resource may complement other IO patient education materials, and areas where additional education may be needed. Specifically, IO wallet card dissemination or related education may need to be tailored to better reach specific oncology disciplines as well as those practicing in smaller clinics.

Abstract:
Popular songs are often said to be ‘contagious’, ‘infectious’ or ‘viral’. We find that download count time series for many popular songs resemble infectious disease epidemic curves. This paper suggests infectious disease transmission models could help clarify mechanisms that contribute to the ‘spread’ of song preferences and how these mechanisms underlie song popularity. We analysed data from MixRadio, comprising song downloads through Nokia cell phones in Great Britain from 2007 to 2014. We compared the ability of the standard susceptible–infectious–recovered (SIR) epidemic model and a phenomenological (spline) model to fit download time series of popular songs. We fitted these same models to simulated epidemic time series generated by the SIR model. Song downloads are captured better by the SIR model, to the same extent that actual SIR simulations are fitted better by the SIR model than by splines. This suggests that the social processes underlying song popularity are similar to those that drive infectious disease transmission. We draw conclusions about song popularity within specific genres based on estimated SIR parameters. In particular, we argue that faster spread of preferences for Electronica songs may reflect stronger connectivity of the ‘susceptible community’, compared with the larger and broader community that listens to more common genres.
