Abstract:
The article deals with the development of cartography at Charles University in Prague. Its development is monitored from the time of our oldest known map by Vavřinec of Březová, master and professor of Prague University, dating from the beginning of the 15th century. A special attention is paid to the development after 1920, when Faculty of Science was established at Charles University - since that time, both geography and cartography have been taught here instead of the Faculty of Philosophy. Cartography, science on map generating, has been always a part of geography and only recently it has become an independent discipline.

Abstract Only two specimens of the ammonite genus Schloenbachia have hitherto been recorded from the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin (BCB). While the first specimen was originally described by Dr. J. Soukup in the 1970s, the other one was discovered in an older collection of the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague in 2018. Recently, both specimens were systematically investigated and interpreted as Schloenbachia lymensis, a new ammonite species for the BCB. The stratigraphic distribution of S. lymensis as well as the palaeobiogeography of this taxon are discussed in this paper.

Abstract:
Devising new ways to collaborate with faculty can be a challenge. In offering professors the opportunity to replace a written paper with a LibGuide assignment, the librarians hoped that the close working relationship necessary to ensure the success of this pilot would allow us to become actively engaged in the classroom. From the perspectives of faculty, a LibGuides assignment can represent an interesting alternative to a research paper that offers flexibility in design and content. For students, a LibGuide assignment can not only be fun but also challenging, since they will have to assess everything they put in the guide.

This diploma thesis focuses on the history of the faculty of theology in Prague from its foundation in 1347 until the outbreak of the Hussite revolution. This thesis first maps the assumptions of the establishment of general teaching in Prague and the founding act of Pope Clement VI. and Emperor Charles IV. Subsequently, the beginnings of teaching at the faculty of theology and its institutional development until 1419 are described. Special attention is paid to the issue of the papal establishment of the faculty, the organization of studies and the role of the Archbishop of Prague as the university chancellor. The internal difficulties of the faculty and the placement of the faculty of theology in the context of the history of Charles University are not neglected either. Methodologically, the work is based on a comparison of literature, and analysis of sources.

Abstract:
Ecclesiology of Antonín Salajka (1901-1975) The following work presents an ecclesiological analysis of the publication by prof. Antonín Salajka (1901-1975). In the first part, it submits the biography of the author. This author was the first czech catholic priest laureated in Pontifical Institute of Oriental Studies in Rome (in 1930). In the second part, it closely inteprets the very ecclesiology of the author itself. Salajka - theologist is introduced from several perspectives as well. First we supplied a suggestion for periodization of his scientific work. There we proposed two periods in congruence with a paradigm change of ecclesiastic-social circumstances, including changes of theological studies, which evidently affected our author's life and scientific work. The two proposed periods are: (1) 1930-1950, i.e. scientifically paramount and fundamental; (2) 1950-1975. Further, we introduced areas which fell under Salajka's interest: unionism, eastern christian churches and the problem of christian unification, eastern dogmatic theology, Church Slavonic, the study of christian East, dogmatic theology, so called theologia comparata, but also ecumenism, theological realisation, method in theology, fundamental theology, moral theology, last but not least pedagogical activity. The main subject in his...

Disertační práce proto přináší kompletní přehled Machoňovy tvorby a jejích stylových proměn.

Abstract:
A long-term approach is definitive for my career, which has evolved at a single place over more than 30 years. But the Long-Term Research Ecology (LTER) program, and especially its urban research, has broadened my thinking far beyond the boundaries of the ecosystem science tradition in which I was trained. I have added to my expectations of students that they learn collaboration, use a diversity of approaches, explore existing data, and document and archive their own data. I anticipate that they will find careers in a broader diversity of areas than academia. The urban research in the LTER program has provided an incentive for me to work on communicating with the public, educators, students, and practitioners. I am still learning but am much more motivated than previously to reach out to these communities. Collaboration is standard practice for ecosystem science but the LTER program has expanded the types of scientists with whom I collaborate as well as the extent of my external collaborations. My decision to lead the Central Arizona–Phoenix (CAP) LTER project was therefore life-changing in extending the horizons of my science, mentoring, collaborations, and outreach. Since 1997, when the CAP program began, I have been involved in the LTER program. I was the original principal investigator, and Charles Redman and I were codirectors from 1997 to 2010. In 2010, after successfully renewing the CAP project, I took a 2-year hiatus to work at the National Science Foundation (NSF). I returned in 2012 and am currently the principal investigator and sole director. This has been my only involvement in the LTER program throughout my career, although as an undergraduate, I conducted research at what was to become the H. J. Andrews Experimental Forest site. I am trained as a stream ecologist and biogeochemist, and I have been at Arizona State University (ASU) for my entire graduate and postgraduate career. Currently I am a professor, having moved through ranks, first as a non–tenure track research faculty member, then as an “academic professional,” and finally as an associate and then full professor. I lead somewhat of a double life, scientifically.
