The yeast Candida bombicola (ATCC 22214) was grown in the self-cycling fermentor (SCF). A medium with both glucose and hexadecane was used to examine sophorolipid production. The sophorolipid was collected in a crystalline form. A modified control scheme that monitored the rate of dissolved oxygen (DO) consumption was successfully implemented to account for the weak or nonexistent minima in the DO.<br>The effect of harvesting with the circulation pump off was also examined. The Self-Cycling Fermentation (SCF) technique and an agar diffusion assay were used to follow the production of lipase by Candida bombicola. Repeatable lipase production profiles were determined for two different media. Each medium gave a considerably different profile.<br>When the broth contained oil, 60 to 80% of the lipase activity remained after freezing. All activity was lost when the broth did not contain oil.<br>The lipase was found to be associated with the cell. Comprehensive investigation of the effect of polluting substances upon active sludge and of the opportunities for immobilisation of ferment preparations in the process of biological aerobic treatment of sewage. Refined mathematical models describing the population dynamics and identification of degradation rations based on the results of experimental investigations. The models obtained describe both the active sludge dynamics and the substrate biodegradation reasonably accurately, therefore, they can be applied to computations of sewage treatment in practice.

<p>The present Master thesis describes the development and optimization of a fed-batch process for production of recombinant proteins in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3) in a multi-fermentor system. The system consists of six 1-liter fermentors, capable of producing 500-1500 μg/mL with present protocol.</p><p>Response surface methodology (RSM) was used for multivariable optimization regarding cultivation time, pH, temperature and feed rate. Optimal protein expression conditions were found out to be 17.8 h cultivation time, 36.7 ºC, pH 6.8 and a feed rate corresponding to specific growth of 0.23 h-1,
