Thouin, Emmanuelle. "L’étude de performances d’une nouvelle technique d’imagerie flash laser : l’imagerie flash laser mosaïque." Thesis, Toulouse, ISAE, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015ESAE0017/document.

Abstract:
Its principle is based on the illumination of a scene With a pulsed laser which is then backscattered to the sensor. The signal to noise ratio and contrast of the object over the background are increased in comparison With passive imaging. Even though, range and field of view (FOV) are limited for a given laser power. The new active imaging system presented here aims at vercoming this limitation. It acquires the entire scene With a high-speed scanning laser illumination focused on a limited region, whereas at each scan the full frame active image is acquired. The whole image is then reconstructed by mosaicking Il these successive images. A evaluation of the performance of this system is conducted by using a direct physical model of his so-called « mosaic active imaging ». This End to End model, realistic in terms of turbulence effects (scintillation, beam andering.. gives us a sequence of images a synthetic scenes. After describing this model, the reconstruction method will be described. It is based on a total-variation minimization scheme. Finally, the performances of this new concept are ompared to those of a conventional flash active camera by using usual metrics (Johnston's criteria, SNR, ...). For va rious mean laser powers, we quantify the gains expected in terms of range and field of view of this new concept

Abstract:

Abstract:
That is why it is very important to model the thermal behavior of fuels very precisely. The objective of this study is to develop a model that indicates the influence of porosity on thermal conductivity at 50° that is representative of the thermal behavior of the UO2 fuels. UO2 fuels were manufactured and their microstructures were studied using optical microscopy, SEM-FIB and X-ray tomography. Two types of porosity were identified: 1) sealed and near-spherical pores which are located in UO2 aggregates, and 2) an interconnected "assembly" porosity located at the interfaces of aggregates. Several descriptive parameters were estimated by immersion measurements and image analysis. Studies based on analytical and numerical homogenization were conducted. Numerical calculations using the Fast Fourier Transform method were performed on images of slice planes obtained with imaging technologies or 3D simulated microstructures generated with an original morphological model reproducing some characteristics of the observed porosity networks. The significant impact of the spatial distribution and the interconnection of the assembly porosity on the thermal conductivity of manufactured UO2 fuels were highlighted. Finally, the proposed model was compared with experimental thermal diffusivity measurements obtained by the Flash method.Discrepancies between the model and the experimental measurements have been largely reduced with the proposed model compared with the standard models, which means that the developed model is more representative of the UO2 thermal behavior

Abstract:
A key challenge facing the nuclear fusion community is how to design a reactor that will operate in environmental conditions not easily reproducible in the laboratory for materials testing. Finite element analysis (FEA), commonly used to predict components’ performance, typically uses idealised geometries. An emerging technique shown to have improved accuracy is image based finite element modelling (IBFEM). This involves converting a three dimensional image (such as from X ray tomography) into an FEA mesh. A main advantage of IBFEM is that models include micro structural and non idealised manufacturing features. The aim of this work was to investigate the thermal performance of a CFC Cu divertor monoblock, a carbon fibre composite (CFC) tile joined through its centre to a CuCrZr pipe with a Cu interlayer. As a plasma facing component located where thermal flux in the reactor is at its highest, one of its primary functions is to extract heat by active cooling. Therefore, characterisation of its thermal performance is vital. Investigation of the thermal performance of CFC Cu joining methods by laser flash analysis and X ray tomography showed a strong correlation between micro structures at the material interface and a reduction in thermal conductivity. Therefore, this problem leant itself well to be investigated further by IBFEM. However, because these high resolution models require such large numbers of elements, commercial FEA software could not be used. This served as motivation to develop parallel software capable of performing the necessary transient thermal simulations. The resultant code was shown to scale well with increasing problem sizes and a simulation with 137 million elements was successfully completed using 4096 cores. In comparison with a low resolution IBFEM and traditional FEA simulations it was demonstrated to provide additional accuracy. IBFEM was used to simulate a divertor monoblock mock up, where it was found that a region of delamination existed on the CFC Cu interface. Predictions showed that if this was aligned unfavourably it would increase thermal gradients across the component thus reducing lifespan. As this was a feature introduced in manufacturing it would not have been accounted for without IBFEM.The technique developed in this work has broad engineering applications. It could be used similarly to accurately model components in conditions unfeasible to produce in the laboratory, to assist in research and development of component manufacturing or to verify commercial components against manufacturers’ claims.

Zhao, Nannan. "Towards a Flexible High-efficiency Storage System for Containerized Applications." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/100315.

Abstract:
Due to their tight isolation, low overhead, and efficient packaging of the execution environment, Docker containers have become a prominent solution for deploying modern applications. Consequently, a large amount of Docker images are created and this massive image dataset presents challenges to the registry and container storage infrastructure and so far has remained a largely unexplored area. Hence, there is a need of docker image characterization that can help optimize and improve the storage systems for containerized applications. Moreover, existing deduplication techniques significantly degrade the performance of registries, which will slow down the container startup time. Therefore, there is growing demand for high storage efficiency and high-performance registry storage systems. Last but not least, different storage systems can be integrated with containers as backend storage systems and provide persistent storage for containerized applications. So, it is important to analyze the performance of different backend storage systems and storage drivers and draw out the implications for container storage system design. These above observations and challenges motivate my dissertation. In this dissertation, we aim to improve the flexibility, performance, and efficiency of the storage systems for containerized applications. To this end, we focus on the following three important aspects: Docker images, Docker registry storage system, and Docker container storage drivers with their backend storage systems. Specifically, this dissertation adopts three steps: (1) analyzing the Docker image dataset; (2) deriving the design implications; (3) designing a new storage framework for Docker registries and propose different optimizations for container storage systems. In the first part of this dissertation (Chapter 3), we analyze over 167TB of uncompressed Docker Hub images, characterize them using multiple metrics and evaluate the potential of le level deduplication in Docker Hub. In the second part of this dissertation (Chapter 4), we conduct a comprehensive performance analysis of container storage systems based on the key insights from our image characterizations, and derive several design implications. In the third part of this dissertation (Chapter 5), we propose DupHunter, a new Docker registry architecture, which not only natively deduplicates layers for space savings but also reduces layer restore overhead. DupHunter supports several configurable deduplication modes, which provide different levels of storage efficiency, durability, and performance, to support a range of uses. In the fourth part of this dissertation (Chapter 6), we explore an innovative holistic approach, Chameleon, that employs data redundancy techniques such as replication and erasure-coding, coupled with endurance-aware write offloading, to mitigate wear level imbalance in distributed SSD-based storage systems. This high-performance fash cluster can be used for registries to speedup performance.<br>Doctor of Philosophy<br>The amount of Docker images stored in Docker registries is increasing rapidly and present challenges for the underlying storage infrastructures. Before we do any optimizations for the storage system, we should first analyze this big Docker image dataset. To this end, in this dissertation we perform the first large-scale characterization and redundancy analysis of the images and layers stored in the Docker Hub registry. Based on the findings, this dissertation presents a series of practical and efficient techniques, algorithms, optimizations to achieve high performance and flexibility, and space-efficient storage system for containerized applications. The experimental evaluation demonstrates the effectiveness of our optimizations and techniques to make storage systems flexible and space-efficacy.

Sucosky, Philippe. "Flow Characterization and Modeling of Cartilage Development in a Spinner-Flask Bioreactor." Diss., Georgia Institute of Technology, 2005. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/6875.

Abstract:
Bioreactors are devices used for the growth of tissues in a laboratory environment. They exist in many different forms, each designed to enable the production of high-quality tissues. The dynamic environment within bioreactors is known to significantly affect the growth and development of the tissue. Chondrocytes, the building blocks of articular cartilage, for example, are stimulated by mechanical stresses such as shear, as compared with those in tissues grown under static incubation conditions. On the other hand, high shear can damage cells. Consequently the shear-stress level has to be controlled in order to optimize the design and the operating conditions of bioreactors. Spinner flasks have been used for the production of articular cartilage in vitro. Assuming the existence of a relation between the cellular glycosaminoglycan (GAG) synthesis and the local shear stresses on the construct surfaces, this research focuses on the development of a model for cartilage growth in such devices. The flow produced in a model spinner flask is characterized experimentally using particle-image velocimetry (PIV). A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model validated with respect to the laboratory measurements is constructed in order to predict the local shear stresses on the construct surfaces. Tissue growth experiments conducted in the prototype bioreactor permit construct histologies and GAG contents to be analyzed and then correlated with the shear-stress predictions. The integration of this relation into the CFD model enables the prediction of GAG synthesis through convective effects. Coupling this convective model to an existing diffusive model produces a complete cartilage-growth model for use in aiding the optimization of existing bioreactors, and in the design of new ones.

This work describes a tool for extraction of features in 2D images applied to industrial automation. The method uses techniques implemented targeting of images into pieces model as detection of edges in the extraction of spatial coordinates of the image and import applications in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) for the generation of programmers for Computer Numerical Control (CNC). This work is to copy a particular model (image) from an existing object, which features a process of reverse engineering. An initial prototype was developed using the Java language with the Eclipse IDE and library for handling complex images, the API Java Advanced Image (JAI). For the acquisition of parts to be machined, was prepared an environment of lighting to highlight areas of interest improving the luminance of the same and enabling the application of techniques developed in this prototype. Different operators for detecting edges were exploited in order to implement the best technical and that best represent the real piece. A new technique of targeting the prototype was adapted from the integration of technology Java / MatLab and with the acquisition of images through technical Multi-flash. After the application of different processing techniques, a text file containing the coordinates of the image (piece) is generated and imported into CAD. In the CAD environment, runs calculating the trajectory of the tool that identifies the geometry of the piece and defines the path of the tool in the generation of CNC program for breeding the same. Results presented and evaluation of the tool demonstrates the feasibility of applying the automated system developed as part of parts to play in numerical control machines.<br>O presente trabalho descreve uma ferramenta para extração de características em imagens 2D aplicado à automação industrial.

Title: Painting the Flesh. The image’s movement in Chaïm Soutine’s work The work of painters who lived in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century mainly consisted in a negation of representation which was not unrelated to the negation of the object-painting itself: Chaïm Soutine brings a deep radical change to this artistic approach. The purpose of our study, according to Soutine’s work, is not its painting, but the action of painting, of "painting the flesh," in order to redefine thereby painting as praxis, and, in turn, philosophy as a practice which must create its own making. Indeed, the denial of the paradigm of representation in painting led us to extend our work to the expressive dynamic reflection of contemporary art and especially to the foundations of philosophical practice considered in the essence of his expressive movement. In this regard, the theme of ‘Flesh’ is a perfect illustration, within painting and philosophy, of a dualism. Our work ambition is to go beyond this dualism. A critical dualism which polarises itself around the opposition between the image as a print-copy/ reproduction and the image as a self –referential. The ontological approach to the 'image' and the 'sensible', drawn by Merleau-Ponty's thought, defines the flesh as pregnancy, that is to say as a Being differentiating of itself which we can only apprehend by renewing our thought following the same differentiation of itself. Our analysis of Chaïm Soutine’s painting lead us to rethink the phenomenon of aesthetics, and, beyond that, to rethink the Being of every phenomena and every appearance without making reference to oppositional forms and ways of thinking from the idealist legacy of philosophy and aesthetics.<br>Titre: Peindre la chair. Our analysis of Chaïm Soutine’s painting lead us to rethink the phenomenon of aesthetics, and, beyond that, to rethink the Being of every phenomena and every appearance without making reference to oppositional forms and ways of thinking from the idealist legacy of philosophy and aesthetics

Abstract:
This research is the outcome of a montage intertwining contemporary art, film, and advertisement images with philosophical theory, following the direction set by two aesthetic figures that have traditionally been related to the notion of image, namely the mirror and the veil. What emerges is an unprecedented aesthetic figure, i. e., the prismatic veil, which, bouncing between the mirror and the veil, brings along an anti-dualistic interpretation of the world of the visible inspired by the Merleau-Pontian notion of flesh understood as a differential fabric in which things and beings only give themselves as differences with respect to all other things and beings. In the prismatic veil, the flesh is filtered through the Deleuzian notion of « crystal-image », and hence enriched with a faceted and multiple temporality that echoes Deleuze’s own reading of Nietzsche’s eternal return, and hence characterising it with a fundamental libidinal approach, which, in this study, is analysed with a particular emphasis on Lacan.By reacting to the Merleau-Pontian notion of flesh and to the mythical temporality that Merleau-Ponty himself associates to it, the temporality of the crystal-image makes the figure of the prismatic veil emerge as a sort of « flesh 2.0 », hence realising a contemporary theoretical tool aiming at favouring the understanding of the increasingly immersive and enveloping features of the present experience of images, including the implications that such an experience implies as for the identity of the viewer and for the perception of truth that is bond to his/her/their gaze. All this, without forgetting the aspect of seduction that characterises the visual universe, and hence confirming the intimate connection that intertwines images and desire

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣大學<br>資訊工程學研究所<br>102<br>Digitizing documents or books by digital cameras are preferred instead of flatbed scanners due to convenience and fast response. However, camera-captured document images have many problems, such as specular reflection, non-uniform illumination, and perspective and geometric distortions. In order to solve these defects, many methods have been proposed in the last decades. Nevertheless, they can only overcome one or two of the drawbacks mentioned above each time. This thesis proposes an integrated system to deal with the three problems based on flash and no-flash image pairs taken at the same angle. Flash and no-flash image pairs are used to compose specular reflection removal images. And then an image enhancement method is applied to remove non-uniform illumination. Finally, boundary interpolation provides an effective solution to perspective and geometric distortions. The experimental results show that our system can restore the frontal-flat views of the documents and remove specular reflection and non-uniform illumination without any specific hardwares or user inputs.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立中興大學<br>資訊科學與工程學系所<br>99<br>Motion blur due to camera shake is an annoying problem in the case of low-light photography. Image blur can be modeled as the convolution of a latent image with a motion blur kernel, where the kernel describes the motion trace of the sensor. There-fore, deblurring becomes a deconvolution operation. In this study, we present a deblurring algorithm using blurred and flash image pair. In kernel estimation, a patch search algorithm is proposed to find a good patch with details to estimate the blur kernel instead of using the whole image. The result of PSF estimation is superior and the computation time is also reduced. In deconvolution part, we improve the bilateral Richardson-Lucy deconvolution method, the parameter of the Gaussian kernel is optimized according to spatial domain variance. Experimental results on several real images demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

We modify the procedure of the fusion method proposed by Petschnigg et al. to reduce the number of times of applying bilateral filtering by getting the detail of flash image from its Y component instead of each RGB color channel. Then, we provide two new Anti-Artifact algorithms to reduce artifacts caused by the usage of inappropriate parameters in Petschnigg’s method. No parameters are needed in our Anti-Artifact algorithms so that we can avoid spending too much time in finding appropriate parameters for artifact reduction. In experiments, we use three different image sets consisting of flash and no-flash images to compare the performances of Petschnigg’s fusion method and ours. In aspect of speeding up, our method can save 22 to 26 percent of time. For artifact reduction, our two Anti-Artifact methods can obviously reduce the artifacts caused by the flash light in the fusion result.

We take players in Nand flash industry as main subjects and explore suitable ways to manage image stores in the complex environment so as to win trust from of customers, dealers, and distributors. This thesis uses multiple case studies as research methodology by analyzing and interviewing four typical companies. The results are summarized as follows: 1.Brand name capital specificity significantly influence governance mode. When brand name capital specificity is greater, running image stores directly can better sustain service quality and brand name effectively. 2.Unfamiliarity of local industry environment and lack of experience in running branch will greatly increase the risk of running a local image store. Under this situation, delegating local business to operate the image store can significantly reduce risk and increase efficiency. 3.Directly running image store provides professional service while runningimage store by delegation can offer more flexible price. Adoption these two methods concurrently will result in scope economics 4.Running an image store helps companies know market better and discover potential need from customers 5.The governance mode should individually match the resource condition, capability, channel strategy of each company.

碩士<br>輔仁大學<br>應用美術學系碩士班<br>97<br>As the internet multimedia technology comes to maturity the diversity of websites grows , flash-based websites especially . However, studies about flash-based websites are rare although design elements and styles of them are much more different from old ones . Thus the researcher wants to reach these three purposes through the user’s image evaluation of flash-based websites : (1) Generalize and classfy the motion design elements and styles of flash-based websites . (2) Understand the differences among different users when doing kansei evaluations . (3) Find out the relations between the motion design elements and the user’s image . Then makes the conclusion of new thoughts and rules for web designers to consult , hopeing to create more websites that answer to user’s kansei needs . The research selects 101 websites of FWA personal and portfolio category from 2004 to 2008 as the main focus . The research process is composed of three main stages as below . (1) Through the morphological method and the cluster analysis , the researcher chooses 8 typical websites from 4 clusters as final samples . (2) Through the reliability test , the researcher chooses 9 representitive kansei vocabularies from 755 adjectives which were wrote down by users after using the flash-based websites . And through the factor analysis , the potencial factors which influence user’s perception to flash-based websites are “Use” and “Design” . (3) Then the user’s image evaluation proceeds with the 7-point Likert Scale which groups 8 websites and 9 kansei vocabularies. Finally the researcher gets statistics from 190 valid questionnaires and makes conclusions as follows: (1) According to the result of cluster variations , the researcher names four clusters the motion cluster , the interactive cluster , the music cluster and the show cluster , and there are respective features of every single cluster . What’s more , most websites belong to the music and the show cluster ; it means a easy and elegant style of a website is welcomed . If adding some proper motion effects , it will point out the keynote. (2) Based on the outcome of the t test and the one way ANOVA , “the gender” and “the age” these two variables make big and many differences among user’s image than “the educational background” , “the design background” , “the frequency of accessing the internet” , and “the experience of visiting flash-based website” . Moreover , the divergences of the image evaluation caused by “the gender” and “the age” variables mostly fall on the “Design” factors . On the other hand , “the design background” and “the experience of visiting flash-based website” make most differences among the “Use” factors . However , “the educational background” and “the frequency of accessing the internet” just make a little difference among the “Use” and the “Design” factors. (3) “Video” , “loading bars” , “the interactive content” and “themes of websites” are 4 main elements that affects user’s perception to kansei vocabularies in total motion design elements . Web designers can make more efforts on them to create better flash-based websites in the future.

Abstract:
1 Abstract Aim of the present study was to test antipredatory function of fulguration (or flash display), which means sudden exposition of conspicous body part on otherwise cryptic animal during escape. Adult squash bugs (Coreus marginatus; Heteroptera) were used as model prey, while as model predator served two species of passerine birds - blue tit (Cyanistes caerulus) and great tit (Parus major). Three approaches were undertaken. Test of palatability should have assessed the efficiency of squash bug chemical defence against bird predators. Experiment was carried out in experimental cage without interference of experimenter and without occurrence of fulguration. The results show that chemical defense of squash bug is less efficient than defense of other species of true bugs (Pyrrhocoris apterus, Graphosoma lineatum) and that the efficiency differs between two generations of squash bugs. In the test of efficiency of fulguration, the prey was forced by experimenter to fly in response to bird attack. Blue tits attacked the immobile prey more often than the flying and fulgurating one, but the same relation wasn't significant with great tits. The latencies of birds' returns to the bugs that landed after fulguration wasn't influenced by colour of the bugs' abdomen. Third experiment consisted of computer...

碩士<br>國立臺中技術學院<br>多媒體設計研究所<br>96<br>In the design of image search engine related domain, web crawlers usually navigate the content of web pages to collect images and text. According to the HTML specification, the IMG tag can only employ three compressed image file formats, namely, GIF, JPEG and PNG, to describe images for web pages. In addition to these three image format, the flash movies’ SWF file may also incorporate several other image formats such as PIC, TIFF and BMP. Though flash movies utilize these versatile image formats, these image formats can be divided into two categories, namely, lossless and lossy images. Most current web crawlers are unable to collect or extract these embedded images from flash movies. Therefore, we try to harvest images from Flash movies on the internet in this study. We explore the harvesting techniques and propose a system prototype called Swiler with a novel crawling technique to facilitate the harvesting. We develop algorithms to extract Flash movies on the internet first. Then we analyze the format of the embedded images within flash movies and develop the image harvester with novel extracting method. And finally, we develop algorithms with threading technique to enhance the performance of harvesting. We also take the harvesting of images external to the flash movies into account by augmenting the Swiler crawler with path-crawling features to collect these images. In our preliminary experimental tests of the swiler, the improvement of our approach is reflected in the increased number and the extensiveness of extracted images and flash movies. Future work might focus on various issues of enhancing the retrieval or the utilization of these Flash movies and images.

Fewer researches are on crawling and harvesting Flash movies. Although currently some offline browser utilities are capable of harvesting Flash movie components, most of these tools are offline stand-alone programs. If users want to access additional information of these components, additional tools or operations are required. This study explores approaches to integrate the various Flash movie harvesting and extracting technologies. Based on an available offline Flash movie harvester named Swiler, we develop an online Flash movie harvester prototype called Flashare. Flashare provides facilities for users to collect and parse their interested Flash movie during their web navigation. Flashare also provides visualization facilities to present users with grid of thumbnails of parsed Flash movie components and relevant information. The performance of the prototype is enhanced by the employment of web techniques such as AJAX and Memcached. The prototype is tested with extracting Flash movies online from three types of web sites. We also invite several Flash movie designers to try and use our system. Their comments and suggestions are reviewed for system adjustments or for considerations of further revisions.

Therefore, these issues light up consumer's awareness towards to the environmental friendly and health. With the growing consciousness of environmental protection worldwide, governments make the green standards and regulations Laws to enforce enterprises of being green and environmental friendly. For today’s enterprises, in addition to enhancing products quality, environmental friendly, safety, and health, how to apply the concept of “Green marketing” to enhance consumers’ awareness of environmental protection and satisfy consumers’ needs becomes a critical goal for enterprises’ sustainability. The purpose of this research is to aim “THERMOS” as a study case to understand whether “THERMOS” Green marketing projects and promotions will influence, customers’ attitudes towards vacuum bottles brand images awareness and thus their purchasing reactions, and whether such differences exist under different types of Green marketing activities. Study Results Shown: 1. Consumers have the positive feedback towards to their purchasing attitudes to those enterprises that have Green marketing and are environmental friendly. 2. Among these three kinds of different promotions (Green product advertising, Green image advertising and Green charity friendly advertising), consumers have no different senses when they purchase the products from these Green enterprises. It is likely that these three kinds of advertising are all promoting Green issues. Therefore, consumers cannot find the differences from the brand images and products.

Abstract:
During the premodern era, images corresponded to the doctrines of ”The Word”, but in contemporary society this relationship is open and does not correspond to the divine Word. Because of our perceived, postmodern inability to respond to ancient Christian symbols, there is a need to revision these symbols and Christian spirituality. The result of such a revisioning would include an ”opening up” of ”The Word” and of traditional, worn symbols which have lost vitality in this milieu. Art produced with this in mind needs to make ”The Word” more currently accessible and relevant. Further, this revisioning would add significance and enhance the possibility of resurrecting language dealing with ”The Word”. In the process of revitalising old Christian imagery and language, I aim to show that the primary role of contemporary Christian art is to function metaphorically. Finally, I argue that Christian images can take on significance as contemporary images.<br>Art History Visual Arts and Musicology<br>M.A. (Visual Arts)
