The present work advances progress on the validation against measurements of linear and nonlinear rotordynamic models for predicting the dynamic shaft response of automotive turbochargers (TCs) supported on floating ring bearings. Waterfall spectra of measured shaft motions at the compressor and turbine ends of a test TC rotor evidences a complex response, showing synchronous (1X) and multiple subsynchronous frequencies along the entire operating speed range (maximum shaft speed ~ 65 krpm). In this work, the nonlinear oscillation behavior of rotors in floating ring bearings is investigated numerically by means of transient run-up simulations. Non plain bearing designs are considered, which are commonly used in turbocharger applications. Furthermore, a mass-conserving cavitation model based on two-phase theory is employed, which is well suited for transient journal motions due to subsynchronous oscillations. Плавающее кольцо способно центрироваться относительно вала благодаря гидродинамическим силам в кольцевой щели. Последнее условие позволяет выполнять малые радиальные зазоры, тем самым снижая утечки. Плавающие кольца не вращаются, что резко уменьшает мощность на трение и снимается проблема их охлаждения.

<p>This study investigate water uptake in six different species of hardwood in tangential and radial section. Alder (Alnus glutinosa) and beech (Fagus sylvatika) represent semi-diffuse-porous hardwoods. Aspen (Popolus tremula) and birch (Betula pubescens) represent diffuse-porous group; oak (Quercus robur) and ash (Fraxinus excelsior) the ring-porous hardwoods. Seventeen glacially sheared stumps in growth position and abundant detrital wood fragments were exposed by stream avulsion at the terminus of the Saskatchewan Glacier in 1999. The stumps lay buried beneath the glacier and over 5 m of glacial sediment until historical recession and stream incision exposed the 225- to 262-year-old stand of subalpine fir, Englemann spruce and whitebark pine trees. Crossdating and construction of two radiocarbon-controlled floating tree-ring chronologies showed that all the subfossil stumps and boles exposed at this location were killed during a Neoglacial advance
