Abstract:
This study focuses on deriving coefficients of a simple linear regression model and a quadratic regression model using fractional calculus. The work has proven that there is a smooth connection between fractional operators and classical operators. Moreover, it has also been shown that the least squares method is classically used to obtain coefficients of linear and quadratic models that are viewed as special cases of the more general fractional derivative approach which is proposed.

The geochemical processes of fractional crystallization of a magma, partial fusion of a rock and assimilation or hybridization of rock(s) and/or magma(s) are generally termed as petrological mixing process. In the present paper a unified attempt has been made to describe the three processes under the purview of regression model. As the data involved are essentially compositional in nature, their suitable log-ratio transforms have been utilized and the constrained least squares principle has been applied to reach a meaningful solution. A highly accommodative procedure is suggested so as to desc

Researchers who model fractional dependent variables often need to consider whether their data were generated by a two-part process. Two-part models are ideal for modeling two-part processes because they allow us to model the participation and magnitude decisions separately. While community-contributed commands currently facilitate estimation of two-part models, no specialized command exists for fitting two-part models with process dependency. In this article, I describe generalized two-part fractional regression, which allows for dependency between models’ parts. I show how this model can be

In the analysis of time-to-event data, e.g. from cancer studies, the group effect of main interest such as treatment effect of a chemo-therapy often needs to be adjusted by confounding factors (possibly continuous) such as hormonal receptor status, age at diagnosis, and pathological tumor size, when the study outcome is affected by their imbalanced distributions across the comparison groups. The median, or quantile, is a popular summary measure for censored survival data due to its robustness. Abstract The object of this book is to develop an approach to the large-sample analysis of fractional partial-sum processes, featuring long memory increments. Long memory in a time series, equivalently called strong dependence, is defined to mean that the autocovariance sequence is nonsummable. The processes studied have a linear moving average representation with a single parameter, denoted $d$, to measure the degree of long-run persistence. Long memory means that $d \gt 0$, while $d \lt 0$ defines a special type of short memory known as antipersistence. Antipersistent processes are treated in

Alterations in left ventricular (LV) mass and geometry and LV dysfunction increase in prevalence from stage 2 to stage 5 in CKD. Nuclear magnetic resonance is the most accurate and precise technique for measuring LV mass and function in patients with heart disease. Quantitative echocardiography is still the most frequently used means of evaluating abnormalities in LV mass and function in CKD. Anatomically, myocardial hypertrophy can be classified as concentric or eccentric. In concentric hypertrophy, the muscular component of the LV (LV wall) predominates over the cavity component (LV volume).

Abstract:
Why do individuals preferences for redistribution often diverge widely from their material self-interest? Using an original online survey experiment spanning eight countries and 12,000 respondents across Latin America, one of the most unequal regions in the world, we find significant evidence for an under-explored explanation: misconceptions regarding the distributional effects of current tax policy. Treated respondents who are informed that an increase in the value added tax (VAT) is regressive are significantly more likely to prefer policy reforms that make the tax more progressive. Treatmen

Abstract:
A major goal in Israeli and U.S. agroecosystems is to maximize nitrogen availability to crops while minimizing nitrogen losses to air and water resources. This goal has presented a significant challenge to global agronomists and scientists because crops require large inputs of nitrogen (N) fertilizer to maximize yield, but N fertilizers are easily lost to surrounding ecosystems where they contribute to water pollution and greenhouse gas concentrations. Determination of the optimum N fertilizer input is complex because the amount of N produced from soil organic matter varies with time, space an

Abstract:
Rich countries’ agricultural trade policies are the battleground on which the future of the WTO’s troubled Doha Round will be determined. Subject to widespread criticism, they nonetheless appear to be almost immune to serious reform, and one of their most common defenses is that they protect poor farmers. Our findings reject this claim. The analysis conducted here uses detailed data on farm incomes to show that major commodity programs are highly regressive in the USA, and that the only serious losses under trade reform are among large, wealthy, farmers in a few heavily protected subsectors.
