Abstract:
Recent taxonomic and systematic research on Cyrtodactylus khasiensis has found that this nomen comprises a large number of superficially similar but deeply divergent species-level taxa from throughout north-east India and surrounding countries. In this study we focus on the taxonomic status of recently surveyed populations from the East Garo Hills and West Garo Hills districts and a single specimen collected from Ri Bhoi District in Meghalaya State, north-east India. Based on a combination of morphological and molecular data we found that the Ri Bhoi specimen is conspecific with the recently described C. urbanus, and that the Garo Hills populations represent a new species of Cyrtodactylus described herein. Molecular analyses (using the NADH dehydrogenase 2, nd2 and adjoining tRNA genes) demonstrate that the new species is nested within the khasiensis group of the Indo-Burma radiation of Cyrtodactylus, and is well-supported as sister to a clade that comprises C. septentrionalis and C. guwahatiensis. We morphologically compare the new C. urbanus specimen with the original description of the species, identify a number of errors and ambiguities in the original description, and notably expand the known morphological variation for the species based on 23 characters. The discovery of an endemic new species of lizards from the Garo Hills further highlights the region as an overlooked centre of biodiversity importance. We discuss several misidentifications in the literature of other reptile species from the region emphasising the need for further attention by taxonomists to review the herpetofauna of the Garo Hills.

Abstract:
Over the past few decades deforestation has become the issue of global concern for its rapid reduction of biodiversity. The tropical moist deciduous Sal forest ecosystem of central Bangladesh is currently in a critical situation. Destructive anthropogenic and natural impacts coupled with overexploitation of forest resources have caused severe damage to the forest ecosystem. Due to rubber monoculture, expanding commercial fuel wood plantations & expanding agriculture, illegal cutting, encroachment of forest areas, and illegal poaching of wildlife, the Sal forest is losing biodiversity alarmingly. The study is based on intensive literature survey and tries to explore the overall deforestation situation and conservation practices for Madhupur Sal forest that comprises about 5% of the total forests in Bangladesh. The level of destruction of the natural Sal forest has pushed the forest-dwelling indigenous Garo community into cash crop production, forcing them to move away from their traditional subsistence economy. Now we need to address a joint conservation and improved management plan of the forest resources use. Thus all kinds of military establishments, construction of roads and highways for military purposes should be avoided and a policy of planned industrialization should be adopted to mitigate the adverse effect of industrialization. Findings of the study will help to identify the causes of deforestation and conservation of Madhupur Sal forest and also in other national parks in Bangladesh which ultimately conserve the biodiversity and help to maintain natural balance.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/jesnr.v6i2.22105 J. Abstract:
Obesity is one of the most important nutritional disorders affecting domestic cats, and has a multifactorial etiology. Main risk factors include age, breed, gender, neutering, type of food, and frequency of feeding. In addition to the metabolic syndrome, obesity is associated to development of orthopedic diseases and skin disorders. Obesity increases anesthetic risk and decreases longevity and quality of live. Body condition score is the standard method of diagnosis, and treatment consists in dietary energy restriction and exercise programs. Prevention is paramount to disease control. In this article we review the current literature related to feline obesity and highlight its prevalence and etiology, as well as the role of adipose tissue – as an endocrine organ –, in the diseases. Comorbidities, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention are discussed.

Abstract:
It has been estimated that 300–500 million malaria infections occur on an annual basis and causes fatality to millions of human beings. Most of the drugs used for treatment of malaria have developed drug-resistant parasites or have serious side effects. Plant kingdom has throughout the centuries proved to be efficient source of efficacious malarial drugs like quinine and artemisinin. Since these drugs have already developed or in the process of developing drug resistance, it is important to continuously search the plant kingdom for more effective antimalarial drugs. In this aspect, the medicinal practices of indigenous communities can play a major role in identification of antimalarial plants. Bangladesh has a number of indigenous communities or tribes, who because of their living within or in close proximity to mosquito-infested forest regions, have high incidences of malaria. Over the centuries, the tribal medicinal practitioners have treated malaria with various plant-based formulations. The objective of the present study was to conduct an ethnomedicinal survey among various tribes of Bangladesh to identify the plants that they use for treatment of the disease. Surveys were conducted among seven tribes, namely, Bawm, Chak, Chakma, Garo, Marma, Murong, and Tripura, who inhabit the southeastern or northcentral forested regions of Bangladesh. Interviews conducted with the various tribal medicinal practitioners indicated that a total of eleven plants distributed into 10 families were used for treatment of malaria and accompanying symptoms like fever, anemia, ache, vomiting, and chills. Leaves constituted 35.7% of total uses followed by roots at 21.4%. Other plant parts used for treatment included barks, seeds, fruits, and flowers. A review of the published scientific literature showed that a number of plants used by the tribal medicinal practitioners have been scientifically validated in their uses. Taken together, the plants merit further scientific research towards possible discovery of novel compounds that can be used to successfully treat malaria with less undesirable sideeffects.

Abstract:
Abstract: The works by Luisa Futoransky are representative of what Deleuze and Guattari define as a “minor literature”, a literature that questions the relationship between nation and literary canon. Her novels and poems use collage as a way to represent this “minor literature”, a medium to create a subaltern voice in her literature. Hers is a literature that lives in the borderlands, experiencing the border from a feminist perspective. In this essay, I propose a reading of Futoransky’s works from a transatlantic and subaltern perspective. Her aesthetic project breaks the bonds between language and territory. The main strategies analyzed here are: the dissolution of the subject, the use of collage and quotation as postmodern techniques to destabilize meaning, humor, and a poetic memory that challenges national borders. This paper analyzes how Futoransky explores the tensions between memory and place from the complexities of global and local dynamics. Keywords: Futoransky, Minor Literature, Subalternization, Deterritorialization.

Abstract:
Fernando Márquez's novel Mary Ann (1985) is a representative case of the literature born within the cultural movement of La Movida, which is accommodated within the overall framework of Postmodernism. It is proposed as a generic hybrid creation and eclectic in the cultural references (literature, cinema, comics, politics). Written with a clear transgressive and provocative will, it inherits the musical punk attitudes, while reserves a space for myth as sacred field. This is the case of Greta Garbo, figure that goes over the entire book and inspires a particular reflection on the social concept of beauty. This article spells out the many musical and cultural references that underpin this work, and explores the singular meaning that Marquez impress to myth.

Abstract:
The concepts of local wisdom inherited through folklores and children literature are the strategies to transform the values considered important to learn by children through textbooks. Therefore, children literature should be meaningful and highly relevant to the empowerment of the children’s life according to the stage of their development. This study questions how to write children’s literature with the theme of local wisdom based on character education. Based on the problem, the study aims to produce children literature with the theme of local wisdom, which is based on character education and according to the children’s development. There are three stages of children literature: emotional, intellectual, and personal development. The study belongs to descriptive qualitative research, employing Brady’s theory on children development and Rampan’s on the technique of writing children literature. Library research and creative process are used in the method. The study generates three models of folklore with the theme of local wisdom according to the children development: Putri Emas dan Burung Ajaib, Putri Cantik dari Pulau Bintan, and Sang Pembangkang. Besides, it also produces three literary works based on character education: “Lalang dan Kupu-Kupu yang Menawan,” “Gara-gara Ketinggalan Bekal,” and “Surti, Mawar, and Kupu-kupu.”

Abstract:
Asset management (AM) is the core business function of grid-based asset management organizations (GAMO). GAMO are looking for compliance with a new international AM standard (ISO 55 000). Currently, a limited perspective – consisting of New Public Management (NPM) and project management (PM) – provides meaning for the new AM standard. However, the limited perspective is not sufficient in aligning AM / GAMO with energy transition and environmental management successfully. The article is aiming at enabling the ISO AM standard to become a co-creational force in energy transition and environmental management. Based on professional engagement and substantial literature review the article employs ‚reflective practice' and causal loop diagrams to identify and elaborate issues of concern that need to be addressed by an enriched perspective on ISO AM: 1) organizational ‚line of sight' (complement key performance indicators with evidence-based causal relationships), 2) control of work (complement formal institutions with AM professionalism), 3) management accounting (advance decision support for the management of the capex/opex relationship), 4) transition modeling (advance agent-based models of AM), and 5) the sustainable management of the resource soil (assess the ecosystem services/disservices that arise from underground urban space use by GAMO during transition times).

Abstract:

A 19-year-old girl presented with fever, headache, vomiting and drowsiness. She had grade 1 papilloedema and neck rigidity but no focal deficits or seizures. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis revealed lymphocytic pleocytosis, slightly elevated protein and normal glucose. MRI of the brain showed a hyperintense lesion in left ganglio-capsular region on the fluid attenuation inversion recovery sequence with perilesional oedema and mild midline shift. Haemorrhage was seen in the region on susceptibility weighted imaging . The patient was thoroughly investigated for known causes of meningoencephalitis, but the diagnosis of scrub typhus was delayed till the 10th day of illness. She was treated with doxycycline for 2 weeks and had marked improvement, both clinically and radiologically. Literature review has revealed that although meningoencephalitis in scrub typhus is not uncommon, such atypical lesions on brain MRI are a rarity. Serial imaging was performed to document the disease progression and resolution on treatment.

In 2000 Lilienfeld, Wood, and Garb defined projective tests in a traditional yet loose manner. When a more precise and exclusive definition is furnished, two classes of responses indicative of deviancy can be logically derived. It is suggested that a focused review of the literature yields consistent relations between psychopathology and two response types, falsifications and misrepresentations. This provides common ground for recognizing a circumscribed core of valid predictors across projective techniques.

A discussion of the 1932 Hollywood adaptation of Pirandello's 1930 play, Come tu mi vuoi, in the context of Miriam Hansen's analysis of Hollywood cinema as "vernacular modernism" allows us to explore the relationship between Pirandello's umorismo and mass culture. The coexistence of multiple identity constructs in the absence of one stable identity is at the core of umorismo and is vividly dramatized in the play's presumably amnesiac female protagonist. The film's humoristic dimension is found not so much in its explicit discourse on identity, which the film's happy ending largely tends to resolve, as in its peculiar reconstruction of the Greta Garbo star-image, lying in excess of the film's story and diegesis, which shares with Pirandello's humour the constellation of diverse and competing images as projected onto the figure of the female protagonist.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Papillary carcinoma arising in thyroglossal cyst is rare and is usually detected on postoperative histopathology after routine Sistrunk operation. Further management is a matter of debate and the choice lies between regular follow-up after Sistrunk operation or total thyroidectomy with or without radioiodine ablation and thyroxine suppression therapy. Here, we present a case of papillary carcinoma of thyroglossal duct cyst in a 26- year-old lady. Papillary carcinoma was detected after a routine Sistrunk operation was done for a seemingly innocuous thyroglossal cyst. A total thyroidectomy was carried 1 week later followed by hormone replacement therapy to suppress serum thyroid-stimulating hormone levels.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
IN THE CENTER OF THE IMPASSE: READING AND REWRITING MACHADO DE ASSIS WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS Abstract - For various reasons, reading classical authors by young people has been questioned. This paper intends to reflect upon literature teaching in High School using Machado de Assis’ works. It presents and analyzes an activity of literary reading and writing that resulted in retellings of Machado’s tales, more specifically, of “Noite de Almirante” (1884) [‘Admiral’s Night’] and “Missa do galo” (1894) [‘Midnight Mass’]. In order to do so, the Machadian short stories are presented, as well as students’ textual productions. Such analyses are carried out in the light of theories dedicated to the issue of literary literacy, which results in an exposition of reasons for reading and discussing authors such as Machado de Assis, who serves as an inspiration for the exercise of literary writing in the classroom. Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract Following an exploration of engineering programmes in higher education, and a review of literature on engineering registers, genres and disciplines, this paper asks if there is a register for engineering. Word frequencies, n-grams and frequent n-grams in context were analysed in a 7.3 million word corpus created from four sections (Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results & Discussion, Conclusion) of over 1000 articles in civil, electrical and mechanical engineering. From the perspective of systemic functional linguistics, this reveals how engineering is construed through language that reflects the social context of high impact, open access, multi-modal, 21st century, international journal article publication, with multiple author roles, and prescribed genres, where reviewers focus on problem solving and facts, rather than persuasive claims.
