Abstract:
Abstract. Using the right equilibrium moisture content (EMC) relationship is critical for implementing successful aeration strategies and for determining the safe storage moisture content of grains and oilseeds. The oil content of sunflower seeds substantially affects the moisture equilibrium relationship, implying that a specific set of model parameters for each oil content range should be obtained. To overcome this practical limitation, the Enhanced Halsey model was developed incorporating a new parameter (D) to characterize the effect of oil content on the original Modified Halsey model. The constants A, B, C, and D of the model were obtained for a wide range of temperatures, moisture and oil contents. The simplicity of the Enhanced Halsey model and the possibility of adapting EMC as a function of oil content make the Enhanced Halsey model valuable for engineering applications (e.g., aeration controllers) and for predicting the safe storage moisture content of seeds with different oil contents, such as sunflower. Abstract:

Abstract:
Knowledge of pesticide adsorption characteristics is essential to predict their behavior in soil. The adsorption equilibrium isotherms of two insecticides chlorantraniliprole (CAP) and dinotefuran (DNF) on two common Egyptian soil types, clay loam and sandy loam were studied and modeled. To predict the adsorption isotherms and to determine the adsorption parameters, ten isotherm models: Langmuir (five linear forms), Freundlich, Temkin, Dubinin-Radushkevich, Elovick, Fowler-Guggenheim, Kiselev, Jovanoic, Harkins-Jura, and Halsey were applied on experimental data. The results revealed that the adsorption isotherm models fitted the data in the order of Halsey > Freundlich > Jovanoic > Langmuir isotherme. The models of Harkins-Jura, Elovich, Temkin, and Fowler-Guggenheim are not applicable to predict the adsorption isotherms of the tested insecticides. In order to determine the best-fit isotherm, the correlation coefficient (R2), comparing the experimental (exp) and calculated (cal) adsorption data, and a normalized standard deviation (Δg%) were used to evaluate the data. Therefore, the isotherm models Halsey and Freundlich could be used to predict the adsorption characteristics of CAP and DNF in the common Egyptian soil types, clay loam and sandy loam. Consequently, the mathematical models Halsey, Freundlich, and Jovanoic can describe the fate of CAP and DNF and can be used to control Egyptian soil contamination.

Abstract:
Narcis Narcisism gained attention and discussion in recent years. This was caused by the rise of social media facilitating self-promotion and self-expression on a massive scale so that narcissistic behaviours can be seen more and more obvious. It could become a problem when they were excessive, inflexible, and maladaptive, leading to harm or distress to individuals or those around them. These extreme traits can be classified as Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). This study aimed to describe the narcissistic's trait of Elizabeth Halsey in Bad Teacher Movie. Elizabeth Halsey worked as a teacher who should demonstrate empathy by understanding her students' perspectives, needs, and emotions, how she can creates a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel valued and heard but her character as a teacher showed narcissistic traits that are the opposite of what a teacher should have. This research used a psychoanalysis approach. The method of this research was qualitative method. In collecting the data, the researchers watched the movie, marking and classifying in what kinds of types of traits that the Elizabeth Halsey had. In analyzing the data, the researchers used descriptive method firstly by identifying all the statements that describe the types of the traits faced by Elizabeth Halsey, and then analyzed the data based on the finding. The results of this study found that there were four of nine traits of narcissistic in Elizabeth Halsey's Character. The first is entitlement trait, she only thought about herself, she did not have any shame on herself, she still asked money from her ex fiance. The second was exploitative traits, in this case, Elizabeth Halsey took advantage on many people, she would do everything without thinking's other feelings and opinion. The third was lack of empathy, she did not showed any empathy for her students who got bullied in front of her, and the last was envy trait, she did not accept the reality that the wealthy man fell in love with her enemy at school, she arranged everything to make her enemy kicked out from school.

Abstract:
In the review of rural, regional and remote education in Australia, Halsey briefly reflected on the old conundrum of how traditional Indigenous culture and 'western' knowledge (as represented in mainstream curriculum) might be integrated in remote schooling contexts. The recommendation supplied was for 'greater opportunity in the curriculum for learning about and valuing home and Homelands knowledge and life skills' (Halsey, 2018, p. 32). But what are 'homelands' and why were they viewed as so vital by the Indigenous Elders Halsey consulted? In fact, in north-east Arnhem Land, such a (seemingly) simple recommendation rests upon a long and complex history of Indigenous negotiation with balanda (white) educational policies and practices. At the Warramiri Yolŋu homeland of Gäwa, a philosophy of education has developed to encompass a profound place-based prioritisation. Community research from Gäwa will be outlined to elucidate this localised Indigenous 'on country' and 'through country' pedagogy, and a practical demonstration of the philosophy in terms of the incorporation of a Warramiri 'turning' seasonal-cycle curriculum will also be briefly discussed.

Abstract:
The present study determined the sorption characteristics of Bulgarian penny buns (Boletus) for eight water activities in the 10 % 90 % range and at three temperatures, of 10 °С, 25 °С and 40 °С. The coefficients of the modified Oswin, Chung-Pfost, Halsey and Henderson models were obtained statistically. The modified Halsey model is recommended as a description of adsorption and desorption isotherms since it corresponds to the criteria for model assessment and suitability. Via BET model linearization, the values of the monolayer moisture content for water activity of aw > 0.5 and temperatures of 10 °С, 25 °С and 40 °С were established. The approximate physico-chemical composition of Bulgarian penny buns (Boletus) – moisture content – 10.80 %, protein – 32.23 %, carbohydrate 0.99 %, fat – 6.62 %, ashes – 6.20 % - was also determined.

Abstract:
Sorption isotherms of red pepper (var. Lamuyo) were determined at three temperatures (10, 20 and 30°C) in a range of water activity from 0.10 to 0.96. BET, GAB, Halsey, Herderson, Caurie, Smith, Oswin and Iglesias—Chirife equations were tested for modelling the sorption isotherms. The statistical evaluation of fit quality of the preceding models showed good results using the BET, GAB, Halsey and Iglesias—Chirife models on experimental sorption data. The BET and GAB models showed monolayer moisture contents from 0.07 to 0.10 g water/g (d.b.); however, they did not show direct dependence on temperature. The Clausius—Clapeyron equation satisfactorily determined the sorption isosteric heats, which were found to increase as the moisture content decreased; the desorption heat (74.2kJ/mol) was higher than that of adsorption heat (36.9kJ/mol). The preceding experimental data showed a good quality fit when evaluated with the Tsami equation.

Abstract:
Sorption isotherms of eggplant were determined employing, as experimental technique, a static gravimetric method, using saturated salt solutions to achieve the equilibrium. The experiments were carried out at different temperatures (20, 35, 50 and 65 °C). The sorption isotherms can be classified, according to Brunauer’s classification, as type II or III depending on temperature. Equilibrium moisture content data were correlated by two models usually applied to foodstuffs (Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) and Halsey). BET model was employed to determine monolayer moisture content (0.121 kg/kg d.b.). Halsey model was selected by the goodness of fitting. Experimental data were analyzed by a thermodynamic approach to obtain some properties as net isosteric heat, equilibrium heat and differential and net integral entropy. The differential enthalpy and entropy decreased with increasing moisture content and satisfied the compensation theory. The net integral enthalpy and entropy showed maximum values (~31 kJ/mol and ~88 J/mol.K) at 0.093 (kg/kg d.b.) of moisture content.

Abstract:
Water pollution caused by the lead(II) from the spent liquor has caught much attention. The research from the theoretical model to application fundaments is of vital importance. In this study, lead(II) adsorption isotherms are investigated using a series of hybrid membranes containing mercapto groups (–SH groups) as the hybrid adsorbents. To determine the best fitting equation, the experimental data were analyzed using six two-parameter isotherm equations (i.e., Langmuir, Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R), Temkin, Harkins-Jura, and Halsey isotherm models). It was found that the lead(II) adsorption on these samples followed the Freundlich, Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R), and Halsey isotherm models. Moreover, the mean free energy of adsorption was calculated using Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm model and it was confirmed that the adsorption process was physical in nature. These findings are very meaningful in the removal of lead(II) ions from water using the hybrid membranes as adsorbents.

Abstract:
Gender disparities in participation in many STEM fields, particularly computer science, engineering, and physics, remain prevalent in Western societies. Stewart-Williams and Halsey contend that an important contributor to these disparities is gender differences in career-related preferences that are driven partly by biology. We argue that Stewart-Williams and Halsey understate the influence of cultural factors in shaping these preferences. We provide evidence for an important and overlooked cultural factor that contributes to gender disparities in computer science, engineering, and physics: masculine defaults. Masculine defaults exist when cultures value and reward traits and characteristics associated with the male gender role and see them as standard ( Cheryan & Markus, 2020 ). We provide examples of how changing computer science, engineering, and physics cultures can decrease gender disparities in participation. Finally, we discuss policy implications, specifically the importance of (1) recognizing that preferences for STEM are malleable and (2) addressing exclusionary cultures of STEM fields. Recognizing and changing exclusionary STEM cultures are important for creating a society that is more just and equitable.

Let (Ω, μ) be a set of real numbers to which we associate a measure μ. Let α≥0, let Ωα={x∈Ω/α(x)=α}, where α is the concentration index defined by Halsey et al. [1986]. Let fH(α) be the Hausdorff dimension of Ωα. Let fL(α) be the Legendre spectrum of Ω, as defined in [Riedi & Mandelbrot, 1998]; and fC(α) the classical computational spectrum of Ω, defined in [Halsey et al., 1986]. The task of comparing fH, fC and fL for different measures μ was tackled by several authors [Cawley & Mauldin, 1992; Mandelbrot & Riedi, 1997; Riedi & Mandelbrot, 1998] working, mainly, on self-similar measures μ. The Farey tree partition in the unit segment induces a probability measure μ on an universal class of fractal sets Ω that occur in physics and other disciplines. This measure μ is the Hyperbolic measure μℍ, fundamentally different from any self-similar one. In this paper we compare fH, fC and fL for μℍ.

Sorption characteristics were done at temperatures 10°C, 25°C, and 40°C, and the water activities (aw) in the interval 0.112 to 0.868 by the gravimetric-static method. For all compared products, augmentation in the temperature leads to a diminution in the sorption capacity. Using the statistical software “Statistica”, it was evaluated four models of Oswin, Chung-Pfost, Henderson, and Halsey. According to the obtained coefficients of each model and the criteria – P and SEM, the most appropriate model is the Halsey (for nectarine powder, white wheat, whole wheat, and einkorn mixtures). The Oswin model was suggested for the satisfactory description of the oat flour mixture with nectarine powder. The results showed that the monolayer moisture content varied in the large limits from 5.78% d.b. to 11.38% d.b. for water activities below 0.5.

Abstract:
In this study, activated carbons prepared from agrowastes by chemical activation were used to remove acetic acid from an aqueous solution through a batch process. The prepared adsorbents were characterized by SEM, XRD, FT-IR, and point of zero charge (pHpzc). The effects of adsorbent dosage, initial concentration, and contact time were considered. Equilibrium data was tested using Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Frenkel–Halsey–Hill models. The degree of adsorption of acetic acid increased for both adsorbents as contact time, and adsorbent dosage and initial concentration were increased. The adsorption data were described well by the (Freundlich=Frenkel–Halsey–Hill) models with the highest regression coefficient of R 2 = 0.9961 and R 2 = 0.9951 for Rice Husk Activated Carbon (RH-AC) and Potato Peels Activated Carbon (PP-AC), respectively. This suggests a multilayer through the existence of a heterogeneous pore distribution in the adsorbent surface. Kinetic data agreed well with pseudosecond-order ( R 2 = 0.999 and R 2 = 0.994 ) RH-AC and PP-AC, correspondingly. This indicates that the adsorption process was chemisorption in nature. The regeneration studies showed that the adsorbents prepared could be renewed and reused before losing their adsorbing affinity for acetic acid.

Abstract:
Abstract Dynamic vapor sorption equipment (AQUADVS) was used to determine adsorption and desorption isotherms for powder rich in fiber (PRF) produced from Palm Date flesh of Sifri cultivar (Phoenix dactylifera L.) at temperatures 25, 35 and 45 °C in a wide range of water activity (0.09–0.87). Equilibrium was achieved within 29 and 25 h for the adsorption and desorption process respectively. The obtained data were fitted to ten models (Peleg, GAB, BET, Halsey, Oswin, Smith, Modified Henderson, Adam and Shove, Modified Oswin and Modified Halsey). The results indicated that the PRF followed type III behavior. The empirical Peleg model was found to be the best to represent the experimental data in the water activity range 0.09–0.87. The isosteric heat of sorption and the differential entropy decreased by increasing the moisture content and can be predicted by polynomial functions. Glass transition temperatures (Tg) of PRF were determined. The Tg decreased as the moisture content increased and can be correlated using the Gordon and Taylor model (R2=0.976). The PRF should be stored at moisture less than 9 d.b.% and temperature less than 35 °C.

Abstract:
The equilibrium moisture contents were determined for un-osmosed and pre-osmosed (salt osmosed and sugar osmosed) whole pricked aonla fruit using the static method at 25, 40, 50, 60 and 70° Cover a range of relative humidities from 20 to 90%. The sorption capacity of aonla decreased with an increase in temperature at constant water activity. The sorption isotherms exhibited the phenomenon of hysteresis, in which the equilibrium moisture content was higher at a particular equilibrium relative humidity for desorption curve than for adsorption. The hysteresis effect was more pertinent for un-osmosed and salt osmosed samples in comparison to sugar osmosed samples. The goodness of fit for three parameter sorption models to experimental data was determined. Four models namely the modified Chung Pfost, modified Halsey, modified Henderson and modified Exponential, were evaluated to determine the best fit for the experimental data. For both adsorption and desorption process of aonla fruit, the equilibrium moisture content of un-osmosed and salt osmosed aonla samples can be predicted well by modified Exponential model whereas, modified Halsey model showed good predictive accuracy for sugar osmosed aonla samples.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Moisture content is an important feedstock quality in converting it into energy through biochemical or thermochemical platforms. Knowledge of moisture sorption relationship is useful in drying and storage to preserve the quality of feedstocks. Moisture sorption isotherms for potential feedstocks such as corn stover and big bluestem are missing. EMC values of corn stover and big bluestem were determined using static gravimetric technique with saturated salt solutions (ERH 0.12–0.89) at different temperatures (20, 30, and 40°C). Depending upon the ERH values, EMC values were ranged from 8.0 to 19.6 and 8.8 to 19.2% db for corn stover and big bluestem, respectively, and they followed typical type II isotherm found in food materials. Nonlinear regression was used to fit five commonly used three-parameter isotherm models (i.e., modified Oswin model, modified Halsey model, modified Chung-Pfost model, modified Henderson model, and the modified Guggenheim-Anderson-de Boer (GAB) model) to the experimental data. Modified Halsey emerged as the best model with highF-statistic andR2values with lowEmandEsand fairly random scattered residual plot for corn stover and big bluestem. These models can be used to predict the equilibrium moisture content of these feedstocks starting from harvesting, drying, preprocessing, transportation, storage, and conversion.

Abstract:
In this study, date-seed-based carbon was prepared and investigated for the adsorption process on the removal of curcumin dye in an aqueous solution. Carbon is prepared by carbonizing date palm seeds for 3 hours at a temperature of 250°C, followed by a grinding and sieving process. The carbon particles were then characterized using a Digital Microscope, sieve test, and Fourier transforms infrared analysis instrument. The adsorption test was carried out through batch experiments at constant pressure and room temperature. The adsorption results were then evaluated using ten adsorption isotherm models, including Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, Dubinin-Radushkevich, Fowler-Guggenheim, Hill-Deboer, Jovanovic, Harkin-Jura, Flory-Huggins, and Halsey. Carbon-based adsorbent from date palm seed showed an adsorption capacity in the range of 38.759 mg/g with a suitable adsorption isotherm is Langmuir > Dubinin-Radushkevich > Jovanovic > Freundlich > Halsey. Based on the five best-fitted isotherms, the adsorption process runs normally, spontaneously, and favorably, confirming monolayer and multilayer formation occurs on heterogeneous surfaces. Then, the adsorption follows cooperative adsorption with chemical and physical interactions at one time. The research study presents findings on adsorbents synthesized by date palm seeds for water treatment and their potential applications as adsorbents.

Abstract To find the Hausdorff dimensional spectrum that characterizes a multifractal, it is required to find the mass function τ(q), which is implicitly defined by the Halsey equation, which in general can only be solved numerically, however there are particular cases in which it is possible to find analytically τ(q) as a parametrically defined function. In this paper we present and discuss the Piña’s method to find analytically τ(q), the Hausdorff dimension spectrum of the multifractal is found.

Dr Halsey has brought to my attention that a sentence in the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection control statement (AAP News, September 1988) and perinatal statement (Pediatrics 1988;82:941-944) might be misinterpreted as advocating artificial feeding for HP/-infected infants in developing countries. It was our intention to advocate the use of artificial feeding by HIV-infected mothers only in the United States and other developed countries where safe water and hygienic practices are the norm. In other countries, the advantages of breast milk outweigh the possible risk of transmission to the newborn.

Abstract:
The swelling and adsorption arising in the case of the polymolecular sorption of the vapour of low-molecular substances by swelling polymers can be satisfactorily described in terms of Frenkel-Halsey-Hill (FHH) theory. The FHH equation has been used to analyze the sorption and swelling isotherms obtained from the sorption of water vapour by styrene/divinylbenzene copolymers possessing surface amino groups. The notion of the ‘monolayer swelling volume’ has been introduced by the authors to obtain an equation which describes the characteristic swelling curve for the group of substances investigated.
