This Thesis describes the synthesis and characterisation of titanium hydrazido(2-) complexes and their reactivity towards unsaturated molecules. This Thesis reports the synthesis and reactions of titanium-nitrogen multiply bonded compounds. Reactions with both acidic and hydridic element-hydrogen bonds are explored along with unsaturated small molecules in general. <b>Chapter One</b> provides a background on imido and hydrazido complexes, starting with the relevance of the hydrazido ligand to nitrogen fixation. Group 4 alkylidene hydrazide and alkoxyimide complexes are also reviewed. Isoniazid (INH) is an antimicrobial used around the world in the treatment and chemoprophylaxis of tuberculosis. Hepatotoxicity is a well-recognized adverse effect of INH therapy. Metabolites of INH, namely hydrazine (HD) and acetylhydrazine (AcHD), are believed to be responsible for this hepatotoxicity. Nitrogen-containing molecules are ubiquitous in both natural products and pharmaceutical drugs, thus an efficient method for the formation of these motifs is of great importance. Hydroamination, that is the addition of an N-H bond across an unsaturated carbon-carbon bond of an alkene or alkyne, stands out as a potential approach to obtain such molecules. This thesis describes investigations into the metal-mediated formation of nitrogen-carbon bonds from hydrazines and alkynes. Rh, Ir, Ru and Os metal complexes containing bidentate P,N- and N,N-donor ligands were all studied during the course of this work. A series of stereoisomers of metal complexes of general formula MCl2(PyP)2 (where M = Ru and Os, PyP = 1-(2-(diphenylphosphino)ethyl)pyrazole) (2.01-2.05) were synthesised. This thesis focuses on the development of new compounds or new processes that are more environmentally friendly and economical than those currently in use. The decomposition of hydrazine, a well established liquid rocket fuel for both the aerospace and defense industries, to the product ammonia is studied.
