Two aerospace superalloys, Inconel 718 and IMI 318, were machined with different grades of PVD (KC730 and KC732) and CVD (KC950) coated tools in order to evaluate their performance under various cutting conditions and to further investigate the effect of the machining conditions on surface finish and surface integrity of the work materials. A self-propelled rotary tool was also developed and used for machining under the finishing conditions. Tool wear, component forces and surface roughness were recorded and analysed during the machining trials. Study of the surface integrity involved physical as well as metallographic examination and analysis of the machined surfaces. The results of the machining trials show that the multi-layer (TiN/TiCN/TiN) PVD coated KC732 tools gave the best overall performance when machining both Inconel 718 and IMI 318, especially at lower feed conditions. Flank wear, excessive chipping, flaking of tool materials close to the cutting edge or on the rake face were the dominant failure modes when machining with the PVD coated tools while flank wear and notching were dominant when cutting with the CVD coated tools. These failure modes are associated with attrition, abrasion, diffusion and plastic deformation wear mechanisms acting individually or in combination during machining. The statistical regression analysis of the tool life data shows that wear of the PVD and CVD coated tools used for machining Inconel 718 was mainly affected by cutting speeds employed while cutting speed and feed rate exhibited similar influence on tool performance when machining IMI 318 with PVD coated tools. Tool life equations for each of the three coated grades when machining both superalloys under the cutting conditions investigated were derived. Severe plastic deformation and hardening of the machined surfaces occurred after machining both materials due to a combined action of increased component forces, thus increased stresses, and high temperature. Softening of the top surface layer when machining IMI 318 can be attributed to overaging of the titanium as a result of highly localised surface heating during machining. Tearing of the machined surfaces occurred when machining IMI 318 with the PVD coated tools, particularly with KC732 tools as a result of irregular flank wear and excessive chipping of KC732 tools. The self-propelled rotary tool (SPRT) incorporating K68 straight grade carbide exhibited superior wear-resistance when machining IMI 318 due to the absence of thermally related wear mechanisms caused by reduced temperature and the use of the entire edge of a round insert during rotary cutting. The minimal subsurface alterations (such as plastic deformation and hardness) when machining Inconel 718 and IMI 318 with the SPRT can also be attributed to lower cutting temperature with rotary action.

The structures of several glass systems containing the lone-pair cation Sb3+ have been studied using a range of techniques, including neutron diraction, Mössbauer spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, X-ray diraction and density measurements. Comparisons with some related crystals have also been used to identify structural features. An Sb2O3 glass was prepared by roller-quenching and found to be both fully amorphous and free of contaminants, using X-ray diraction and EDX analysis, respectively. A glass transition temperature, Tg, of 250(2) °C and a crystallisation temperature, Tc, of 303(2) °C were measured using dierential scanning calorimetry, whilst the density of the glass was found to be 5:27(2) g cm3. Analysis of the total correlation function T(r) from neutron diraction of the sample found two distinct peaks at 1:972(1)Å and 2:092(4) Å, with a total Sb-O coordination number of 3:24(4), indicating the presence of some [Sb3+O4] and/or [Sb5+O6] units, in addition to the main [Sb3+O3] network. Several models of the local structure are proposed, based on dierent possible amounts of Sb5+ present in the glass. An antimony oxychloride glass was prepared from crystalline Sb8O11Cl2 by splatquenching, and Mössbauer spectroscopy was used to determine that it contained no Sb5+. The thermal events in the system were characterised, with Tg = 278(2) °C and Tc = 318(2) °C; the density was found to be 5:10(2) g cm3. Neutron diraction of the crystal distinguished between two dierent structural models in the literature, whilst also indicating that the glass may consist of similar chains of [Sb3+O3] and [Sb3+O4] units. Glasses of nominal composition x Sb2O3 . (1 - x) B2O3 were studied over the range x = 0:1 to x = 0:7. Raman spectroscopy and neutron diraction indicated that the glass network consists of significant amounts of [B3O6] boroxol rings at low x that are cleaved by the introduction of [Sb3+O3] trigonal pyramids. At higher x, there is some evidence for Sb-O-Sb bonding, resulting in the persistence of the boroxol rings to x - 0:7. Two Sb-O distances were apparent in the T(r), suggesting similar models of the antimony oxide units to those for the Sb2O3 glass. Five antimony silicate glasses of nominal composition x Sb2O3 . (1 - x) SiO2 were prepared and found by Mössbauer spectroscopy to contain growing amounts of Sb5+ with increasing x, up to 9:9(5)% at x = 0:8. Density measurements suggested that the SiO2 and Sb2O3 networks mix in the glass without significantly altering each other, and this is supported by comparison of the measured neutron diraction T(r) with a weighted sum of the total correlation functions of the two system end-members. The simulation also indicated fewer high-coordination antimony oxide units ([Sb 3+O4], [Sb5+O6]) than in the Sb2O3 glass, although two distinct Sb-O distances were once again apparent in the neutron T(r). The overall conclusion is that Sb2O3 forms a glass network consisting predominantly of [Sb3+O3] trigonal pyramids with a stereochemically-active lone-pair, whilst some more highly-coordinated [Sb3+O4] and [Sb5+O6] units may also be present.

The presentation uses the forensic evidence to examine the extent to which the perceived image of Richard III is the result of Tudor propaganda.

A plasmid-encoded Type III Secretion System (T3SS) is employed by human pathogenic yersiniae to inject effector proteins, termed Yops, directly into host cells. The secretion of Yops is tightly regulated, and occurs only upon contact with a eukaryotic cell in vivo or in media devoid of calcium in vitro. A complex containing the secreted protein YopN, its heterodimeric chaperone SycN/YscB, and TyeA is required to prevent secretion of effector Yops until the appropriate secretion-triggering signals are encountered. The mechanism by which these proteins regulate the T3S process is unknown. A mutational analysis of YopN and TyeA was performed to identify regions and residues of these proteins that are required to regulate Yop secretion. Amino-acid residues of TyeA were identified that were specifically required for the interaction of TyeA with YopN, confirming that the YopN/TyeA interaction is essential for the regulation of Yop secretion. Furthermore, analysis of TyeA mutants identified a surface-exposed region that was critical for the regulation of Yop secretion, but not required for interaction with YopN. YopN residues critical for the regulation of secretion clustered within the N- and C-terminal regions of YopN that were required to interact with the SycN/YscB chaperone and TyeA, respectively. No residues critical for the regulation of secretion were identified in the central region of YopN, suggesting that this region acts primarily to maintain proper positioning of the functional N- and C-terminal regions of this complex. A novel role for the chaperone binding domain (CBD) of YopN in the regulation of Yop secretion was identified. This role was separate from its role in binding the SycN/YscB chaperone and targeting YopN for secretion. Finally, it was demonstrated that the SycN/YscB chaperone is dispensable for the regulation of secretion if the expression of both YopN and TyeA is increased, indicating that these chaperones have no direct role in the regulation of Yop secretion. These results indicate that the YopN secretion signal and SycN/YscB chaperone function to efficiently target the YopN/TyeA complex to the T3S apparatus, whereas the YopN CBD and C-terminal region of YopN complexed with TyeA mediate the block in Yop secretion.

This thesis contains an introductory chapter to gold(I)- and indium(III)-catalysis, followed by five chapters outlining the research undertaken by the author during the duration of study. Chapter 1 gives an introduction to gold(I)- and indium(III)-catalysis and, in particular, focuses on the reported literature on the development of the gold(I)-catalysed reactions of allenes. Chapter 2 describes the research undertaken into the dehydrative thiolation of allenols, and the discovery of InCl3 as a superior catalyst for this reaction compared to Au(I). The use of InCl3 as a catalyst provided excellent regioselectivities of the desired 1,3-diene products in good to excellent yields. Several reactions were carried out using a gold(I) catalyst for comparison, but they consistently provided lower yields and poorer regioselectivities. Mechanistic studies outlining the differences between Au(I) and In(III) are also discussed. Chapter 3 details the developments on the dehydrative reactions of allylic alcohols to form allylic ethers, with an In(III) vs. Au(I) comparison. These investigations show that InCl3 can be used as a cheaper alternative to Au(I) for this reaction and, in some cases, outperforms Au(I). In particular, In(III) exhibited superior performance as a catalyst when substrates or nucleophiles contain pendent π bonds. Chapter 4 presents the successful development of a mild protodeboronation reaction of boronic acids under gold(I)-catalysis. Additive free conditions and the use of “green” solvents provides a mild reaction with an excellent functional group tolerance. This method can be adapted for a regioselective ipso-deuteration technique which would be useful in labelling studies. Mechanistic investigations are also discussed. Chapter 5 outlines a quick and efficient iododeboronation reaction which can be carried out in “green” solvents in under 10 mins, making this reaction potentially useful for radiolabelling studies. Chapter 6 describes the first intermolecular gold(I)-catalysed chirality transfer hydroalkoxylation reaction of 1,3-disubstituted allenes. These reactions proceed with excellent regioselectivity and a high degree of chirality transfer. Mechanistic studies are also discussed.

The work in the Brown laboratory has two long-range objectives. Both are derived from an interest in the replication of the genome of Gram-positive eubacteria. One objective is to gain a deeper understanding of the structure and function of DNA polymerase III, the unique species of DNA polymerase which is essential for chromosome replication. The second objective, the one from which this thesis is derived, is to determine whether a selective inhibitor of this DNA polymerase can serve as a basis for producing a new generation of clinically useful Gram-positive-selective antimicrobial agents.
The polymerase III-specific inhibitor prototypes investigated in this work are members of a family of simple 6-substituted uracils. The following members of this family, TMAU and EMAU, were used as platforms for the manipulation of the N3 atom (arrow), the only ring component which could be substituted without severe reduction of inhibitory activity.
The N3 position was substituted with a series of alkyl groups of increasing size. The resulting structure-activity relationships at the level of the polymerase was consistent with the presence of an N3-specific subdomain within the inhibitor binding site which could accommodate a wide variety of substituents.
Although specific alkyl substituents at N3 also significantly enhanced the antibacterial potency of TMAU and EMAU, the respective compounds were found to have insufficient aqueous solubility for successful application in in vivo infection. To increase aqueous solubility, the N3 atom of the EMAU platform was substituted with selected hydroxy- and methoxyalkyl groups. The latter agents retained both anti-polymerase and antibacterial activity, and, as expected, they displayed a combination of lipid and aqueous solubility favorable to efficacy in in vivo infection. Two of the agents, N3-hydroxypropyl- and N3-methoxypropyl-EMAU were examined for their ability to protect mice from lethal staphylococcal infection. Both were found to be active in this model.
In sum, the results of this work demonstrated, for the first time, that: (1) the eubacterial replication-specific DNA polymerase III is a valid target for antibiotic development, and (2) the N3-substituted 6-anilinouracil platform has strong potential as a basis for novel antibiotics useful against Gram-positive bacterial infection.

Imidazolium trans-[tetrachloro (dimethyl sulfoxide)(imidazole)ruthenate(III)], NAMI-A, is an experimental metastasis inhibitor whose specific mechanism of activation and action remains to be elucidated. In the nucleophilic and reducing physiological environment; it is anticipated that the most relevant and available reductants upon introduction of NAMI-A as a therapeutic agent will be the biologically-relevant free thiols. The kinetics and mechanisms of interaction of NAMI-A with biologically-active thiols cysteamine, glutathione, cysteine and a popular chemoprotectant, 2-mercaptoethane sulfonate (MESNA) have been studied spectrophotometrically under physiologically-relevant conditions. The reactions are characterized by initial reduction of NAMI-A with simultaneous formation of dimeric thiol and subsequent ligand exchange with water to various degrees as evidenced by Electospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry. Stoichiometry of reactions shows that one molecule of NAMI-A reacted with one mole of thiol to form corresponding disulfide cystamine, dimeric MESNA, oxidized glutathione and cystine. Observed rate constants, ko, for the reaction of NAMI-A with cysteamine, MESNA, GSH and cysteine were deduced to be 6.85 + 0.3 x 10-1, 9.4 + 0.5 x 10-2 , 7.42 + 0.4 x 10-3 and 3.63 + 0.3 x 10-2 s-1 respectively. Activation parameters determined from Arrhenius plots are indicative of formation of associative intermediates prior to formation of products. A negative correlation was obtained from the Brønsted plot derived from observed rate constants and the pKa of the different thiols demonstrating significant contribution of thiolate species towards the rate. In conclusion, interactions of NAMI-A with biologically-active thiols are kinetically and thermodynamically favored and should play significant roles in in vivo metabolism of NAMI-A.

Previous issue date: 2015-08-30<br>CAPES - Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior<br>O presente trabalho trata da preparação de vidros baseados em polifosfatos de sódio (NaPO3)n contendo óxidos de antimônio (III) e cobre (II), onde a presença do agente redutor α-Sb2O3 foi responsável pelos processos de oxi-redução: Cu2+→ Cu+→Cu0 durante a síntese dos vidros a 1000°C. Os resultados de medidas de absorção de Raios X próxima a borda K do Cu (XANES) e de espectroscopia Eletrônica forneceram informações valiosas sobre a existência de partículas metálicas nos vidros com dimensões nanométricas. Este resultado mostra a possibilidade de se obter nanopartículas metálicas de Cu0 durante a etapa de fusão dos vidros sem a necessidade de tratamentos térmicos dos materiais em temperaturas próximas a transição vítrea. A síntese de diferentes fases cristalinas do óxido de antimônio (III): α-Sb2O3, α-Sb2O4, β-Sb2O4 e β-Sb2O3, por meio de diferentes tratamentos isotérmicos possibilitou o estudo via espectroscopia Raman e Difração de Raios X por policristais destes compostos. O diagrama de composição ternário para os vidros (0,9-x)NaPO3-xSb2O3-0,1CuO mostra as diferentes regiões de domínio vítreo de formação de vidros estáveis. O estudo espectroscópico dos vidros (0,9-x)NaPO3-xSb2O3-0,1CuO contendo nanopartículas metálicas de Cu0 dopados com 0,5 mol% de Er2O3 foi realizado via espectroscopia de Fluorescência usando diferentes radiações excitantes: 532, 633 e 785 nm. O mapeamento Raman dos vidros mostrou a intensificação da fluorescência dos íons Er3+, tanto pelo efeito da mudança do ambiente químico ao redor do íon Er3+ (cristalização) quanto pela transferência de energia dos plasmons de superfície excitados para os níveis de energia do íon terra-rara (SEF – Surface-Enhanced Fluorescence). Além disso, vidros contendo nanopartículas metálicas de Cu0 apresentaram resultados satisfatórios quando a possibilidade de utilização como substratos SERS (Surface-Enhanced Resonance Spectroscopy), sendo observada a intensificação do sinal Raman dos modos vibracionais da o-fenilenodiamina usando o vidro x = 0,6 como substrato.<br>This Thesis deals with the preparation of glasses based on sodium polyphosphate, containing antimony (III) and copper (II) oxides. The presence of α-Sb2O3 reducing agent was responsible for redox processes: Cu 2+→ Cu+→ Cu0 during synthesis of the glasses at 1000°C. The results of X-ray absorption measurements near the K edge of Cu (XANES) and electronic spectroscopy provided valuable information on the presence of metallic particles in glasses with nanometric dimensions. This result shows the possibility of obtaining metallic Cu nanoparticles during the melting step of glass preparation, without the need for posterior treatments. The synthesis of the different crystal phases of antimony (III) oxide, i.e., α-Sb2O3, α-Sb2O4, β-Sb2O4 and β-Sb2O3, through different isothermal treatments enabled the study through Raman spectroscopy and X-ray Diffraction. The ternary composition diagram for glass NaPO3-Sb2O3-CuO shows the different regions of vitreous domain. The spectroscopic study of glasses (0.9-x)NaPO3- xSb2O3-0,1CuO, containing Cu nanoparticles doped with 0.5 mol% of Er2O3 was realized by fluorescence spectroscopy using different exciting radiation: 532, 633 and 785 nm. The Raman mapping of these glasses showed the intensification of fluorescence of Er3+ ions, both the effect of changing the chemical environment around the Er3+ ion (crystallization) as the energy transfer from the excited surface plasmons for energy rare-earth ion levels (SEF - Surface-Enhanced Fluorescence). Additionally, glasses containing Cu nanoparticles showed satisfactory results of use as SERS substrates (Surface-Enhanced Resonance Spectroscopy), with the observed enhancement of the Raman signal of the vibrational modes of using phenylenediamine and the glass with x = 0.6 as substrate.

Introducción: el tema de los derechos humanos es uno de los que más publicidad ha tenido estos últimos tiempos, los derechos de los pacientes se encuentran dentro de éstos; los pacientes, que son los directos beneficiarios luchan actualmente con una sociedad globalizada, llena de tecnología y que brinda toda clase de información, muchas veces no entendida; lo cual ocasiona desconocimiento en cuanto a sus derechos y por ende el desinterés de exigirlos.Objetivo: determinar el nivel de conocimiento sobre los derechos de los pacientes en los usuarios del servicio de cirugía del Hospital Suárez Angamos. Método: el presente trabajo es de tipo cuantitativo, diseño descriptivo, de corte transversal; con una muestra probabilística representativa de 234 acudieron al servicio de cirugía en su etapa preoperatoria. Los datos se obtuvieron a través de un instrumento elaborado por las investigadoras que recopiló información sobre el conocimiento que tienen los usuarios acerca de sus derechos: autonomía y a ser informado; la recolección se realizó durante el mes de Enero 2014. Los datos fueron procesados y analizados por la estadística descriptiva en el estadístico SPS v.19. Resultados: el conocimiento medio prevaleció en las tres dimensiones medidas, aspectos generales 70,2%; derecho a ser informado 61,2% y derecho de autonomía con 68,5%.

A caracterização da macrotextura e microtextura da superfície de pavimentos asfálticos pode ser obtida por meio de diversos tipos de equipamentos que possuem características distintas. Os resultados dos ensaios obtidos por esses diferentes equipamentos foram comparados e harmonizados por uma grande pesquisa desenvolvida pela PIARC (Permanent International Association of Road Congress, atualmente denominada de World Road Association) que converteu estes diferentes valores em um índice internacional combinado denominado de IFI - International Friction Index. Posteriormente, a ASTM especificou o emprego deste índice por meio da publicação da norma E 1960-98 Standard Practice for Calculating International Friction Index of a Pavement Surface. Nesta tese foram avaliados a textura e o atrito em doze tipos de revestimentos asfálticos com características distintas: usinados a quente de diversas graduações, tratamentos superficiais, microrrevestimentos a frio e lamas asfálticas, por meio de aparelhagem portátil: ensaios de mancha de areia e Pêndulo Britânico, respectivamente. Estes diferentes revestimentos apresentam uma gama de textura variando de aberta e rugosa a fechada e polida. Os resultados geraram um banco de dados com 417 valores de campo, sendo 178 referentes à macrotextura, 166 à microtextura e 73 à drenabilidade. Com estes dados, foram calculados valores de IFI, compostos pelos parâmetros Sp e F60, resultando em 165 pares de valores. Com base na experiência prática e análises estatísticas, demonstrou-se a validade de uso de equipamentos portáveis para a determinação dos valores de IFI e estabeleceram-se critérios e faixas de classificação para a aderência em função do par de valores de IFI (Sp; F60). Esta classificação possibilita os órgãos viários a usarem o IFI (Sp; F60) como uma ferramenta de gerência de pavimentos para avaliarem as condições de aderência em pista molhada de suas vias ou de locais específicos, objetivando, quando necessária, a realização de intervenções.<br>The characterization of the macrotexture and microtexture of asphalt pavements surfaces can be obtained by means of different types of equipment presenting different characteristics. The results of the essays obtained by these different equipment were compared and harmonized by an ample research developed by PIARC (Permanent International Association of Road Congress, now denominated World Road Association) which converts these different values into an international combined index denominated IFI - International Friction Index. In this thesis, texture and friction were evaluated on twelve types of asphalt pavings with different characteristics: hot asphalt mixes of different gradations, asphalt surface treatments, cold-mixed micro-surfacing and slurry seals, by means of portable equipment, sand patch and British pendulum essays, respectively. These different pavings present a range of texture varying from open and rough to closed and polished. The results generated a database with 417 field values, being 178 related to macrotexture, 166 to microtexture and 73 to drainability. With these data, IFI values were calculated, composed by parameters Sp and F60, resulting in 165 pairs of values. Based on practical experience and on statistical analyses, the validity of using portable equipment for determining the IFI values was demonstrated and classification criteria and bands for adherence were established in function of the pair of IFI values (Sp; F60). This classification allows road organisms to use IFI (Sp; F60) as a pavement management tool to assess the adherence conditions on the wet lanes of their roads or on specific sites, aiming to conduct interventions, whenever necessary.

The application of standards subject to the Resolution 3897/2010 revoked by Resolution 4194/2013 will address the implementation and management of liquidity risk, the new methodology of calculating the Reference Equity and the introduction of additional core capital, among other issues. Changes brought by the withdrawal of tax credits for purposes of computing the capital and changes in the form of acceptance of subordinated debt will have a strong impact on all financial institutions, with repercussions on the levels of capitalization and leverage. L'objectif de ce travail de thèse a consisté à explorer les techniques avancées de fabrication de dispositifs très hautes fréquences aussi bien actifs que passifs. Pour les composants actifs, le travail a concerné les diodes à effet tunnel résonnant qui présentent des effets de conductance différentielle négative. Concernant les dispositifs passifs, nous nous sommes intéressés principalement aux guides d'ondes coplanaires sur membrane diélectrique. Au préalable, nous avons effectué une étude théorique des non linéarités de conduction dans les hétérostructures de semi-conducteurs à puits quantique. Cette étude est basée sur la recherche des probabilités de transmission par effet tunnel et des états de localisation. Suite à cette étape de conception, nous avons fabriqué des composants dont les caractéristiques courant tension sont à l'état de l'art en termes de conductance différentielle négative. Pour ce faire, il a été nécessaire de mettre en oeuvre des techniques de définition des motifs combinant la photolithographie et l'écriture au masqueur électronique à l'échelle submicronique. Par ailleurs, les procédés d'implantation profonde et de gravure ionique réactive ont été utilisés. La caractérisation hyperfréquence de ces composants, réussie en zone de conductance négative, a complété cette étude des composants actifs. Pour les lignes de propagation sur membranes, nous avons cherché à démontrer la possibilité d'utiliser des technologies de micro-usinage volumique des matériaux III-V pour s'affranchir du substrat. Les milieux de propagation obtenus, de cette façon, peuvent se comparer à l'air avec des permittivités effectives très proches de l'unité. Par ailleurs, l'absence de dispersion et un niveau très faible de pertes ont été démontrés, avec également l'étude d'une transition parabolique originale.

Polyethylene (PE) is one of the most popular polymers used in daily life. However, saturated hydrocarbons cannot absorb the energy of light reaching to earth, so degradation process is rather slow which in return cause disposal problems. On the other hand, it was observed that in presence of oxygen and impurities in the polymer matrix, degradation can be rendered to shorter time intervals. This study covers investigation of effect of three different additives in UV induced oxidative degradation of polyethylene.
In this work vanadium (III) acetylacetonate, serpentine and Cloisite 30B were used as additives both together and alone to follow photodegradation of polyethylene. Amount of vanadium (III) acetylacetonate was kept constant at 0.2 wt%, while serpentine and Cloisite 30B were used between 1 and 4 wt%.
All compositions were prepared by using Brabender Torque Rheometer, and shaped as thin films by compression molding. Samples were irradiated by UV light up to 500 hours. Mechanical and spectroscopic measurements were carried out in certain time intervals to monitor the degradation.
It can be concluded that all combinations of three additives showed the fastest degradation behavior compared to pure PE. In the absence of vanadium (III) acetylacetonate the degradation was slowed and fluctuations were observed in the residual percentage strain at break values. There was not a significant change in tensile strength of all samples. Carbonyl index values followed by FTIR were always in increasing manner. Thermal properties were also investigated by DSC Thermograms and they did not change significantly.

Neste trabalho foram processados e caracterizados dispositivos emissores de luz (LEDs) baseados em estruturas p-i-n a partir de filmes de GaAs dopados unicamente com Silício e crescidos através da técnica de Epitaxia de Feixes Moleculares sobre substratos de GaAs orientados nas superfícies (311)A e (211)A. Nas superfícies (311)A e (211)A, o Si tem comportamento anfótero, ou seja, pode ocupar tanto o sítio do Ga como o do As, o que resulta em filmes com portadores tipo n e p, respectivamente. As características elétricas dos filmes dependem das seguintes condições de crescimento: i) razão entre os fluxos de Ga e As; e ii) temperatura do substrato. As técnicas de caracterização utilizadas foram fundamentalmente: Fotoluminescência, IxV (corrente-tensão) e Efeito Hall. Os dispositivos p-i-n foram processados a partir de técnicas convencionais de fotolitografia e caracterizados a partir das técnicas de IxV e Eletrolumi-nescência. Os dispositivos estudados foram produzidos a partir de camadas de GaAs e AlGaAs crescidas nas direções [311]A e [211]A. Os dispositivos obtidos a partir de filmes dopados de GaAs apresentaram uma boa eficiência de emissão, porém foram observadas perdas ôhmicas ocasionadas pela natureza da junção obtida nestes planos, ocasionada por defeitos, principalmente nos filmes dopados tipo n que são crescidos em condições extremas de temperatura e pressão de Arsênio. Os dispositivos a base de AlGaAs apresentaram baixa eficiência e altas perdas, relacionadas com a alta compensação apresentada pelos filmes. Foram testados também dispositivos com heteroestruturas na camada intrínseca, apresentando resultados satisfatórios.

Casuística e Métodos: estudo caso controle envolvendo 316 pacientes estadiadas para prolapso genital, utilizando-se o sistema de quantificação de prolapso dos órgãos pélvicos (POP-Q), padronizado pela Sociedade Internacional de Continência (ICS). O grupo caso foi constituído por 107 pacientes nos estádios III e IV e o grupo controle por 209 mulheres nos estádios 0 e I. Aplicouse a estas pacientes a anamnese dirigida, com o objetivo de avaliar a presença ou não dos principais fatores de risco para prolapso genital (história obstétrica, idade da menopausa, história familiar, tosse crônica e constipação intestinal). Foi realizada, ainda, coleta de 5 ml de sangue periférico para extração do DNA leucocitário. O fragmento a ser estudado (exon 31 do gene do COL3A1) foi amplificado por meio de reação de polimerase em cadeia (PCR). Para a comparação das variáveis qualitativas foi utilizado o teste de Qui-quadrado (X2). Para as variáveis quantitativas foi optado pelo teste de Mann-Whitney U, já que estas variáveis não tiveram padrão de distribuição normal na população. Para o cálculo do valor de odds ratio e Intervalos de Confiança foi utilizada Regressão Logística Binária. O valor de significância estatística estabelecido foi de 5%, ou p<0,05 e o intervalo de confiança foi de 95% (95% IC). Os indivíduos homozigotos mutados e heterozigotos foram analisados e englobados em um só grupo e comparados com os homozigotos selvagens para a alteração genética pesquisada. Toda a análise estatística foi realizada com o software Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 14.0. Resultados: Com relação às variáveis quantitativas, foram observadas diferenças significativas para todas (p<0,05), com exceção da idade da menopausa. Já na análise das variáveis qualitativas, observamos que só houve diferença significante para as mulheres que apresentavam história familiar de prolapso genital. Não houve diferença estatisticamente significante quanto à presença do polimorfismo em questão em ambos os grupos estudados, considerando que os genótipos em estudo encontravam-se em Equilíbrio de Hardy-Weinberg. Conclusão: a presença de polimorfismo no exon 31 da cadeia alfa 1 do gene do colágeno tipo III não é fator de risco para prolapso genital na amostra da população brasileira estudada.<br>Objective: To verify the possible association between the presence of the polymorphism in exon 31 of COL3A1 gene and the occurrence of genital prolapse in a sample of the population. To compare the qualitative variables we used the chi square (X2). For quantitative variables was chosen by the Mann - Whitney U, as these variables had normal distribution pattern in the population. For the calculation of odds ratios and confidence intervals was used binary logistic regression. The value of statistical significance was set at 5% or p <0.05 and confidence interval was 95% (95% CI). The homozygous and heterozygous mutant were analyzed and grouped into one group and compared with the homozygous wild for the gene studied. All statistical analysis was performed with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 14.0. Results: With respect to quantitative variables, significant differences were observed for all (p <0.05), except for age of menopause. In the analysis of qualitative variables, we found that only significant difference for women who had a family history of prolapse. There was no statistically significant difference regarding the presence of the polymorphism in question in both groups, whereas the genotypes studied were in Hardy-Weinberg. Conclusion: The presence of a polymorphism in exon 31 of alpha chain 1 gene of collagen type 3 is not a risk factor for pelvic organ prolapse in the Brazilian population studied.<br>TEDE<br>BV UNIFESP: Teses e dissertações

This thesis draws on David Harvey’s concept of “accumulation by dispossession” and an international political economy (IPE) approach centred on the institutional arrangements and power structures that privilege certain actors and values, in order to critique current capitalist practices of primitive accumulation by the global corporate extractive industry. The thesis examines how accumulation by dispossession by the global extractive industry is facilitated by the “free entry” or “free mining” principle. It does so by focusing on Canada as a leader in the global extractive industry and the spread of this country’s mining laws to other countries – in other words, the transnationalisation of norms in the global extractive industry – so as to maintain a consistent and familiar operating environment for Canadian extractive companies. The transnationalisation of norms is further promoted by key international institutions such as the World Bank, which is also the world’s largest development lender and also plays a key role in shaping the regulations that govern natural resource extraction. The thesis briefly investigates some Canadian examples of resource extraction projects, in order to demonstrate the weaknesses of Canadian mining laws, particularly the lack of protection of landowners’ rights under the free entry system and the subsequent need for “free, prior and informed consent” (FPIC). The thesis also considers some of the challenges to the adoption and implementation of the right to FPIC. These challenges include embedded institutional structures like the free entry mining system, international political economy (IPE) as shaped by international institutions and powerful corporations, as well as concerns regarding ‘local’ power structures or the legitimacy of representatives of communities affected by extractive projects. The thesis concludes that in order for Canada to be truly recognized as a leader in the global extractive industry, it must establish legal norms domestically to ensure that Canadian mining companies and residents can be held accountable when there is evidence of environmental and/or human rights violations associated with the activities of Canadian mining companies abroad. The thesis also concludes that Canada needs to address underlying structural issues such as the free entry mining system and implement FPIC, in order to curb “accumulation by dispossession” by the extractive industry, both domestically and abroad.

Insulin-like growth factors (IGF) are known paracrine/autocrine regulators of ovarian development in teleosts. Initial studies investigated the hormonal and intracellular signal cascades involved in regulating the expression of ovarian-derived IGFs in zebrafish (Danio rerio). Quantitative real-time PCR was used to quantify the expression of igf3, igf2a, and igf2b in full grown immature (FG; 0.57-0.65 mm) and mid-vitellogenic (MV; 0.45-0.56 mm) follicles. Addition of the gonadotropin analogue human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and the adenylate cyclase activator forskolin increased igf3 expression in FG and MV follicles, but had no effect on igf2a or igf2b expression. The effects of hCG were blocked by the addition of the protein kinase A inhibitor H-89. Pituitary adenylate cyclase activating peptide stimulated a small increase in igf3 expression in FG follicles, while growth hormone and salmon gonadotropin releasing hormone had no effect on igf3, igf2a, or igf2b expression. Treatment with melittin, prostaglandin F2α, and prostaglandin E2 inhibited igf3 and igf2b expression in FG follicles whereas the protein kinase C activators, PMA and A23187, significantly inhibited igf3, igf2a, igf2b expression in FG and MV follicles. Secondary studies investigated the involvement of ovarian-derived IGFs in mediating the ovarian actions of gonadotropins on cell survival and steroidogenesis. Treatment of FG follicles with recombinant human IGF-I, hCG, or forskolin inhibited the induction of caspase-3/7 activity, which was used as a measure of apoptosis. The effects of hCG and forskolin on caspase-3/7 were attenuated by co-treatment with NVP-AEW54, an IGF-I receptor antagonist. hCG increased production of the maturation-inducing steroid 17α, 20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one and co-treatment with NVP-AEW541 had no effect. These results suggest there is a high degree of hormonal specificity in regulating IGFs in the zebrafish ovary and the ovarian-derived IGFs, presumably IGF-III, are downstream mediators of gonadotropin-dependent cell survival, but are not involved in gonadotropin-induced steroidogenesis.

We present a comprehensive investigation of the low-¯eld hole mobility in strained Ge and III-V (GaAs, GaSb, InSb and In1¡xGaxAs) p-channel inversion layers with both SiO2 and high-· insulators. The valence (sub)band structure of Ge and III-V channels, relaxed and under strain (tensile and compressive) is calculated using an effcient self-consistent method based on the six-band k ¢ p perturbation theory. The hole mobility is then computed using the Kubo-Greenwood formalism accounting for non-polar hole-phonon scattering (acoustic and optical), surface roughness scatter- ing, polar phonon scattering (III-Vs only), alloy scattering (alloys only) and remote phonon scattering, accounting for multi-subband dielectric screening. As expected, we find that Ge and III-V semiconductors exhibit a mobility significantly larger than the \universal" Si mobility. This is true for MOS systems with either SiO2 or high-k insulators, although the latter ones are found to degrade the hole mobility compared to SiO2 due to scattering with interfacial optical phonons. In addition, III-Vs are more sensitive to the interfacial optical phonons than Ge due to the existence of the substrate polar phonons. Strain { especially biaxial tensile stress for Ge and biaxial compressive stress for III-Vs (except for GaAs) { is found to have a significant beneficial effect with both SiO2 and HfO2. Among strained p-channels, we find a large enhancement (up to a factor of 10 with respect to Si) of the mobility in the case of uniaxial compressive stress added on a Ge p-channel similarly to the well-known case of Si. InSb exhibits the largest mobility enhancement. In0:7Ga0:3As also exhibits an increased hole mobility compared to Si, although the enhancement is not as large. Finally, our theoretical results are favorably compared with available experimental data for a relaxed Ge p-channel with a HfO2 insulator.

Im Hinblick auf die Größe (ca. 300 Studierende) und das Alter ist das Internationale Hochschulinstitut Zittau ein Winzling in der universitären Landschaft. Und dennoch können wir auf 20 erfolgreiche Jahre zurückblicken, die in einem angemessenen Rahmen gefeiert werden sollten. Im akademischen Umfeld ist es gute Tradition, einen derartigen feierlichen Anlass mit der Herausgabe einer Festschrift zu würdigen.
Im ersten Teil der Festschrift finden sich drei Beiträge zur Entwicklung des IHI Zittau und dem in Zittau entwickelten kooperativen Promotionsmodell. Der zweite Teil umfasst 22 Beiträge von Promovierenden, die ihre Promotionsvorhaben beschreiben.
