Abstract:
The study investigated the impact of children’s literature reception on literacy at children with mild mental retardation in the process designed on the adapted receptive model of children’s literature didactics. An experiment of a one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted on the sample of seven children with mild mental retardation. In the period of one semester their literacy program was supported with children’s literature education according to the adapted model of receptive children’s literature didactics. After that, their reading competence was tested with the Assessment scheme of reading competence (Pečjak at. al., 2011), which was focused on two dimensions of the reading process: reading comprehension and the quantitative and qualitative data of students’ reading performance. Among the last one a) reading speed was measured, b) reading rhythm was observed, c) reading mistakes were counted and classified, d) reading accurateness was observed and e) reading expression was measured. The results show the positive impact of the adapted model of receptive children’s literature didactics on students’ reading competence – the reading speed, the reading rhythm the accurateness of reading performance and the reading expression improved and the number of reading mistakes decreased. Abstract:
In the course of practical grammar of Ukrainian as a foreign language, a pronoun takes a special place in view of its specific meaning, morphological features, syntactic functions and stylistic properties. The substitutive and indicative function makes the pronoun multifaceted, heterogeneous and extremely difficult to master for foreigners. There is a lack of research related to the description of lexical-semantic features, stylistic properties and grammatical features of pronouns in Ukrainian linguistic didactics. For the purpose of teaching grammar of Ukrainian as a foreign language, a multifaceted analysis of pronouns is essential, which has to take into account their features at different levels simultaneously, namely morphological, syntactic, lexical, and stylistic ones. The study of Ukrainian pronouns also requires the research of their conjugation, the possibility of transition to other parts of the language and functioning in fixed language collocations. Pronouns in the course of Ukrainian as a foreign language are distinguished by a functional feature - the ability to be used instead of a noun, adjective or numeral. Pronouns combined within a separate independent meaningful part are substitute words with a special anaphoric function, which makes them a universal means of text creation. For a foreign listener, it is extremely important to learn the peculiarities of the semantics and functions of pronouns of different categories, in particular personal, reflexive, possessive, indicative, interrogative, relative, negative, and indefinite ones. Penetration into the semantic structure of pronouns of various lexical and grammatical categories, identifying the peculiarities of grammatical features and conjugation makes it possible to identify the most important properties of pronouns of the Ukrainian language for studying in a classroom, to draw up a system of exercises for the development of abilities and skills of their correct use in speech. Abstract:
This paper deals with the selection and the lexicographic treatment of figurative expressions in two dictionaries: a French-Serbian dictionary for elementary school students and an Italian-Serbian dictionary for elementary and secondary school students. First, the corpus is processed for the purpose of quantitative comparison of figurative expressions, then 18 related words from each dictionary are singled out in order for qualitative similarities and differences to be more thoroughly examined, with, finally, the same words being analysed by means of general two-way dictionaries. The highlights of the analysis are as follows: the number of marked figurative expressions is disproportionately greater in the dictionary intended for both elementary and secondary school students; translation equivalents are identical or very similar in both school dictionaries, with the exception of the way they are marked; both school dictionaries feature examples for all figurative meanings; and, the number of figurative meanings in school dictionaries is lower than in general dictionaries, but the former show more consistence with regard to their marking and exemplifying. As far as the results are concerned, they are interpreted through the prism of lexicological, lexicographic, and didactic factors. In the end, the author conclude(s) that an appropriate treatment of figurative expressions is one of the key reasons why two-way school dictionaries are still an indispensable tool in foreign language teaching.

Abstract:
Introduction. The author examines the feasibility and possibilities of adapting linguistic research data on synonyms typical of legal English texts for teaching purposes. It identifies the most frequent features of pairs of synonyms in commercial legal documents, based on that, a classification is proposed that takes into account the perception of the synonyms by Russian-speaking law students. Goal. The purpose of the article is to justify the need to adapt linguistic data as a stage preceding the preparation and creation of teaching materials for a Legal English course. The category of students such course is designed for does not possess deep linguistic knowledge, yet they need to understand all the nuances of term usage and other high-frequency vocabulary, which is one of the key requirements for lawyers. Materials and methods. The methodological foundation of the research includes the method of continuous sampling, comparative analysis, frequency analysis, cluster analysis, classification, and typology. The study applies the principle of adaptation of linguistic research. It presents a comparative analysis of Russian and foreign classifications of synonyms for legal terms. Results and discussion. Interchangeable synonyms consist of cognate and non-cognate words that show no variation in meaning within the studied contexts; syntactic expressions with minor changes in terminological phrases; propositional structures that can be paraphrased; simple forms that serve as equivalents to compound ones; and Anglo-American correspondences. The second group involves stylistically conditioned expressions. The third comprises forms distinguished by a single semantic feature, regardless of context. The fourth category refers to elements differing by one or several features, depending on context or compatibility. False synonyms are also part of this classification. Conclusion. The identified classifications of synonyms are based on different features: parts of speech, the degree of overlap of semantic fields, syntactic functions, as well as structural, orthographic, and morphological characteristics. The classification adapted for teaching purposes focuses on identifying interchangeable and non-interchangeable lexical elements.

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to interpreting the modern understanding of numerals as a part of speech through the prism of both traditional and contemporary grammatical frameworks and new scientific paradigms. It is demonstrated that despite the peripheral nature of this linguistic component, research aspects related to the study of numerals are far from being exhausted today. In the 20th century, numerals were predominantly examined within a focus on traditional grammar and functional grammar, establishing both broad and narrow understandings. In the 21st century, numerals have started to be studied within the realms of the pragmatic, linguocognitive, and linguoconceptual knowledge paradigms, particularly within the perspectives of the emerging linguistic directions such as the poetic grammar, the theory of precedentness, the discourse linguistics, the morphology of evaluation, the grammatical stylistics, as well as the comparative-historical and comparative-contrastive linguistics. It has been established that Ukrainian researchers pay attention to the peculiarities of English numerals, which is associated with its globalization function, and conduct a comparative analysis of the Ukrainian numeral with the English numeral. They also update works on the uniqueness of expressing the concept of quantity through different linguistic units. Separate studies focused on the study of the English numeral are proposed, which is important since English is practically a mandatory subject in secondary schools and universities in Ukraine. Therefore, such research has great significance not only for linguistics but also for didactics. It is noted that the Ukrainian numeral possesses significant potential for modelling evaluative meanings, expression, and artistic linguistic devices. The pragmatic power of certain numerals has been noted, as they have the ability to serve as markers of imagery, emotionality, axiology, expressiveness, and the idiolect of the writer in general. The perspective of research outlined includes the necessity of conducting comparative studies of Ukrainian and English languages, particularly focusing on the morphology of evaluation. Based on a critical analysis of literary data and our own experience in teaching medical terminology toRussian (Russian-speaking) students, the work presents the features of terminology that determine the basicprinciples of linguodidactics of this discipline and the success of its mastery. Using the identified features as an example, methodological approaches to describing cognitive processes in the formation of clinical thinkingof a future doctor are assessed. The hypothesis about the hierarchical structure of linguistic knowledge and clinical thinking is discussed. It is concluded that it is necessary to integrate scientific data from neurobiologicalsciences at the present stage of development of didactics in the formation of clinical thinking. Abstract The following contribution is divided into two parts, for reasons of space. The current article will deal with issues of translation and translatability from German into English in the field of Didaktik (didactics, subject didactics and general subject didactics). The starting point will be to gather information about the spread and acceptance of the concept of didactics as a cover term for a comprehensive theory of teaching and learning within school as an institution, in Europe and beyond. The multi-facetted reality of this concept in so many countries or educational settings and the different approaches to go with it, will have an effect on the demands of an appropriate rendering of Didaktik in English as a lingua franca and thus transferring it into another, essentially foreign socio- cultural context. The same is even more true for the notion of Fachdidaktik (= subject-matter didactics). In particular, it will be shown that there are challenges and even limits in sharing didactic and subject-didactic knowledge, concepts and research findings internationally, when transmitting them from German into English and thus from a continental European into an Anglo-Saxon way of thinking and of organizing school education. The difficulty to establish a one-to-one equivalence is reflected on the linguistic level, where certain anglicized forms which do not originally exist in English, have been developed (e.g. subject-matter) didactics, general subject didactics), for lack of appropriate translations. Also in many other cases of translation more than one version is possible, depending on context, focus or intention. This insight will be applied to individual notions or whole semantic clusters in the field (e.g. around key words like Fach or Fachliche Bildung). In combination with the second part the overall goal is to bring Didaktik/didactics and curriculum theory into conversation again and widen the scope towards subject-matter didactics at the same time.2

Mokyklinių istorijos vadovėlių turinio projektavimas ugdymo paradigmų kaitoje Šio darbo tyrimo objektas - VI-ųjų klasių istorijos vadovėlių turinio projektavimas didaktiniu požiūriu. Buvo siekiama ištirti bendrojo lavinimo mokyklos VI-ųjų klasių vadovėlių turinio projektavimą ugdymo paradigmų kaitoje. Iš pradžių buvo analizuojama mokslinė literatūra apie mokyklinių vadovėlių turinio projektavimą bei siekiama atskleisti bendrojo lavinimo mokyklos istorijos vadovėlių pasirinkimo kriterijus, atsižvelgiant į istorijos mokytojų didaktines nuostatas. Tyrimo metu apklausti 123 VI-siose klasėse dirbantys įvairiose Lietuvos respublikos vietovėse mokytojai. Atliekant tyrimą nustatėme, kad vadovėlio pasirinkimą lemia jų atitikimas Bendrosioms programoms. Tačiau nė vieno vadovėlio negalima pavadinti geriausiu, nes nė vienas nelaiduoja vienodai gerai didaktikos principų. Nustatyta, kad šiuolaikiniai istorijos vadovėliai geriausiai laiduoja vaizdumo principo, moksliškumo, prieinamumo principą, tačiau dar pasigendama vidinės integracijos, ugdomojo mokymosi, reflektyvaus mokymosi principų prielaidų. Istorijos vadovėliai laiduoja įvairius mokymo metodus. Palankiausiai įvertino „minčių lietaus“ ir „sąvokų žemėlapių“ metodus naudojamus vadovėliuose. Mokyklose naudojami istorijos vadovėliai labiau laiduoja klasikinius mokymo metodus, nei šiuolaikinius, aktyviuosius metodus. [toliau žr. visą tekstą]<br>The object of this research is planning a subject- matter of manuals for the 6th grade in history in didactics approach. It was important to research the planning subject-matter for secondary school manuals for the 6th grade in history on the background of the transition of educational paradigms. At the beginning scientific literature about the subject –matter of the school manuals was analysed as well as reveal criteria of the choice of the manual in history depending on the teacher’s didactics attitude. 123 teachers of history working in the 6th grade were questioned all over the country during the research. The result revealed that the choice of the manual depends on its correspondence with the Common curriculum. Also it became obvious that none of the manuals could be recognised as the best one for none could guarantee the equal implementation of the principles of the didactics. It was estimated that contemporary manuals for history guarantee pictorial principle, as well as scholarly, accessibility, but still there is a lack of assumptions of internal integration, training learning, and reflective learning. The manuals for history ensure variety of teaching methods. The methods represented in the manuals as brain storming and mind map were assessed most positively. The manuals most frequently used at school ensure the classical teaching methods more often than modern and the active ones. AbstractThe essay analyzes the poetics of Enzo Mari in the light of postcrocian aesthetics, in particular Umberto Eco and Luciano Anceschi’ contributes.The field of reflection of the essay, conducted on several levels (both meta-artistic and intra-artistic) is polarized around some expressions and some key words, explications of issues perceived as urgent.First, a rethinking of aesthetic experience on the basis of the results of psychology and the phenomenology of perception.Secondly, a rethinking of the status of the work of art, which becomes “open work” or work “with multiple outcomes”; to characterize the work is a semantic stratification, a multiplicity of meanings that requires an active user, able to enter the work and trace an interpretative path. Thirdly, a rethinking of the aesthetic-social impact of art capable of activating an “aesthetic education”, a new and more conscious experience of the “environment”, be it natural or cultural: artistic objects, as well as those of design, have a transformative power of ordinary space-time, and consequently of the habits that mark it. This creates a very close link between aisthesis, poiein and praxis, between aesthetics, artistic operation and life, in its ethical and social aspect.

The CIM Explorer software provides us with an intelligent interface for exploring the Romanian version of the International Classification of Diseases (in Romanian Clasificarea Internationala a Maladiilor - CIM). The ICD was transposed from its initial appearance as a printed document into a database. The classification can be accessed in two modes: &amp;ldquo;Navigation&amp;rdquo; and &amp;ldquo;Code&amp;rdquo; and queried in the &amp;ldquo;Key words&amp;rdquo; mode. In the last mode CIM Explorer program searches for the right content of the ICD records starting from naturally written expressions which it &amp;ldquo;understands&amp;rdquo;. As a results it returns all the records containing the key words regardless their grammatical form. This program implements the specificity of the Romanian language where the words are made up from a root and a flexional termination.

Abstract Leading theories on metaphysical foundations hold that meanings are grounded in a relation between the expressions of a language and objects they refer to or express. They differ in what related objects, and what relation to those objects, they specify. It is generally accepted that the relationship concerns how expressions are used by speakers of the language. Conventions turn what speakers mean and express into what words and sentences mean and express. We review problems with theories that focus on reference and truth and argue for a theory based on the expression of structured cognitive propositions, identified with thoughts. The fact that thoughts have parts is key to compositionality as well as word meaning.

This chapter provides an overview of key elements of eighteenth-century thought on music in which its relationship with words and the origins of language (as well as literature) was central. The chapter briefly explores different approaches to these conjunctions, considering contemporaneous theorisations of musical mimesis and semiosis as expressions of rhetoric, national character, the long-running ‘ancients vs moderns’ conflict, and the contrast between imitation and expression. The impact these theoretical explorations had on musical works composed during the period is addressed using examples from Vivaldi and Handel.

This chapter analyzes the encounter between the radicality of the Manifesto of the 121 and the specific radicality of Blanchot's own thinking and writing. First, the chapter adheres to the letter of the manifesto and discusses the implications of its key words and expressions. It then examines the intersection between the idea of a “declared right to insubordination” and other of Blanchot's formulations that refer to the idea of a refusal or negativity that under certain circumstances might be carried to extremes. Abstract This is the most important chapter in the entire book. A new method, designated the symbolic vector method, in treating vector analysis will be introduced. The main advantages of this method are the differential expressions of the three key functions in vector analysis are derived based on one basic formula, all of the integral theorems in vector analysis are deduced from one generalized theorem, the commonly used vector identities are found by an algebraic method without pedorming any differentiation, and two differential operators in the curvilinear coordinate system are introduced. They are designated as the divergence operator and the curl operator, which are distinct from the operator used for the gradient. The technical meaning of the words “divergence,” “curl”, and “gradient” will be explained shortly. It should be pointed out that the nomenclature for some technical terms introduced in this chapter is different from the original one used in [18).

This chapter focuses on the pragmatic aspect of comprehensibility, i.e., when the speaker’s sounds and words are clear, but their intended meaning is not because of their limited pragmatic knowledge. The discussions of this chapter will include the speaker’s perspective and highlights the dynamic nature of comprehensibility. After defining comprehensibility from a communication and intercultural perspective, the chapter will discuss the key aspects of pragmatic knowledge that affect comprehensibility. Summarising research in this area (e.g., Purpura, 2004; Rover, 2011, Taguchi, 2005, 2007, 2012) we will discuss issues such as use of formulaic expressions, implicatures and indirect speech acts as some potential areas in which comprehensibility issues arise. We will also focus on cultural norms and differences in pragmatic aspects of language use, e.g., politeness and backchannelling, that affect comprehensibility. More importantly, we will argue that to have a full understanding of the effects of pragmatic knowledge on comprehensibility, it is necessary to examine the speaker’s participation in extended discourse during both monologic and dialogic types of performance (Tavakoli, 2016; Tavakoli, 2018).

Abstract:
In this article, the translation principles of D.S. Merezhkosky are considered on the basis of the tragedy of Sophocles Oedipus Rex. Since the key motives of this tragedy are the motive of guilt and the motive of the crime, it is important how this is reflected in the translations, given the differences in the lexical means of the Russian and Greek languages. The article draws attention to the fact that Merezhkovsky conveyed various Greek words and expressions with vocabulary associated with the concept of “evil”. “Evil”, “villainy”, “crime”, “evil”, all this vocabulary does not change the original, but clarifies it, emphasizing the most important semantic motive of the tragedy. Oedipus treats his guilt, albeit involuntary, objectively, that is, as a crime, as an evil caused by him, albeit against his will, to other people. Calling himself a “villain”, the hero considers himself a criminal, he takes responsibility for the suffering caused to others, which is one of the moral lessons of this tragedy. Thus, abandoning the strategy of literal translation, Merezhkovsky was able to convey the main ideological meaning of the tragedy of Sophocles, not reducible to the “tragedy of rock”.

The analogy between Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) and the human language inspires the decomposition of a surgical task into its primary elements. The frequency of different elements or words&amp;rdquo; and their sequential associations or &amp;ldquo;grammar&amp;rdquo; both hold critical information about the process and outcome of the procedure. Modeling these sequential element expressions using a multi finite states model (Markov model) reveals the grammatical structure of the surgical task and is utilized as one of the key steps in objectively assessing surgical performance. The experimental protocol included 30 surgeons at different levels of training (5&amp;times;Rl,R2,R3,R4,R5, and experts) performing Laparoscopic suturing on an animal model (pig). The kinematics and dynamics of left and right endoscopic tools along with the visual view of the surgical scene were acquired by the Blue DRAGON system. The methodology of decomposing the surgical task is based on a fully connected, finite-states (30 states) Markov model (MM) where the left and right hands are represented by 15 states each. In addition to the MM objective analysis, a scoring protocol was used by an expert surgeon to subjectively assess the subjects&amp;rsquo; technical performance. An objective learning curve was defined based on measuring quantitative statistical distance (similarity) between MM of experts and MM of residents at different levels of training. The objective learning curve (e.g. statistical distance between MM) was similar to that of the subjective performance analysis. The MM proved to be a powerful and compact mathematical model for decomposing a complex task such as laparoscopic suturing. Systems like surgical robots or virtual reality simulators that inherently measure the kinematics and dynamics of the surgical tool may benefit from inclusion of the proposed methodology for analysis of efficacy and objective evaluation of surgical skills during training.

Eye-tracking technology was used to analyze the participants’ visual attention while solving a multiple-choice science problem. The research encompassed 103 people of varying levels of knowledge, from pupils to scientists. The respondents in general devoted more time to analyze the chosen fields. However, the trend is reversed for people with high scientific expertise and criticism and with extreme motivation to solve a problem. The trend depends also on the strategies of solving a problem and conviction about the correctness of the answer. Abstract:
We present the description of our system that was ranked third in the noun sub-track of the Taxonomy Enrichment for the Russian Language shared task offered by Dialogue Evaluation 2020. Our best-performing system appears against the backdrop of other methods and their combinations attempted, and its results argue in favour of Occam’s razor for this task. A simple supervised classifier was trained on static distributional embeddings of hyponym words as features and their numeric hypernym synset identifiers from the taxonomy as class labels. It outperformed more complicated approaches based on learning linear projections from hyponym embeddings to hypernym embeddings and returning synset identifiers for the nearest neighbours of the predicted vectors. Training specially tailored word embeddings for ruWordNet multi-word expressions proved to be one of the key factors for both approaches.

Abstract:
We present a new open-access electronic resource named the Russian Constructicon that offers a searchable database of Russian constructions accompanied by descriptions of their properties and illustrated with corpus examples. The project was carried out over the period 2016–2020 and at present contains an inventory of over 2200 multi-word constructions of Contemporary Standard Russian. We prioritize “partially schematic” constructions that lie between the two extremes of fully compositional syntactic sequences on the one hand and fully idiomatic (phraseological) expressions on the other hand. Constructions of this type are difficult to account for in terms of either lexicon or grammar alone, and are often underrepresented in reference works of Russian. A typical construction in our database contains a fixed part (anchor words) and an open slot that can be filled with a restricted set of lexemes. In this paper we first focus on key characteristics of this resource that make it different from existing constructicons of other languages. Second, we describe how the new interface will be designed and how it will serve the needs of both linguists and L2 learners of Russian. In particular, we discuss various search possibilities relevant for different users and those parameters that are available for specifying the retrieval output. An example of an entry is given to show how the information about each construction is structured and presented. Third, we provide an overview of our multi-level semantic classification of constructions. We argue that our system of semantic and syntactic tags subdivides our items into meaningful classes and smaller groups and eventually facilitates the identification of constructional families and clusters. This methodology works well in turning the initial list of constructions as unrelated units into a structured network and makes it possible to refine and expand the collected inventory of constructions in a systematic way.

Modern times seem to have been inflicted with a puzzling sickness that pervades humans’ existence on every possible level. The modern sickness of loneliness and loss of connection assumes center stage position whether in social contexts or personal spaces. This modern ailment is clear within the modern American setting particularly; therefore, many dramatic pieces try to dramatize its manifestations and consequences. The present paper attempts to explore the manifestations of this sickness in the representations of animal companionship. Such representations populate many modern American plays from the beginning of the twentieth century and moving on to the millennium. The paper suggests that images and representations of animal companionship are only expressions of modern individuals’ isolation and loss of connection. The paper examines two plays by Edward Albee, The Zoo Story (1959) and The Goat or Who’s Sylvia? (2000), that represent a new kind of companionship that may or may not sustain the struggle of their modern protagonists to establish some kind of connection with the world around them. Abstract:
This article examines modern digital lexicographic corpus technologies that allow for the development of novel lexicographic principles employed in the Linguistic Encyclopedic Dictionary. The key principle among them is a combination of lexicographic and encyclopedic approaches to language description presented in a concise form, a feature characteristic of new automated systems of artificial intelligence, such as Augmented Writing, among others. While ‘word-for-word’ translation still lags behind professional standards, ongoing developments in digital technologies, including machine learning and access to vast text corpora, enable users to ‘intuitively’ customize digital products to meet their specific needs. Novel software tools no longer translate literally; they contextualize words and identify their meanings in new, often fixed, word combinations, whether common or terminological. Moreover, comparative corpus-based applied research on scientific (linguistic) styles in English and Russian reveals significant structural asymmetry between their most informative, ‘dominant’ units — extended terminological expressions, which are predominantly language-specific. Their complexity necessitates the development of special translation algorithms based on the encyclopedic approach to the identification of their meanings in foreign languages, including Russian. This approach was employed in the Linguistic Encyclopedic Dictionary edited by Viktoria N. Yartseva.

Abstract A necessary condition of understanding how designers work is understanding how designers talk. In this paper we show how new methods of linguistic data analysis are beginning to reveal insights into the general nature of design conversations. For the first time we combine design activity data collected over 30 years by the Design Thinking Research Symposium (DTRS) ‘shared data’ series into a single corpus. We apply emerging techniques of analysis on this corpus and explore word forms, expressions, topics, and themes related to the particularities of how designers talk. We describe three such methods: generating category network maps using the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) system; semantic grouping of words using word embeddings and examining the distribution of these groups across the datasets, and custom text generation using an A1-based language modeller. In applying these methods, we show that exploring design activity data at the corpus level can reveal more general patterns of design talk and raise key questions and hypotheses for further study. We see these methods as a first step in developing an understanding of how people not considered to be designers (e.g., scientists, business people, politicians) talk in ways that might be considered ‘designerly’ [1].

Mevlânâ was born on September 30, 1207, in the city of Balkh, one of the old Turkish cultural centers, today within the borders of Afghanistan. His real name is Muhammed Celâleddin. His grandfather, Hüseyin Hatibî, was one of the great scholars of his time. His father, Bahâeddin Veled, was known as "Sultânü'l Ulemâ" (Sultân of Scholars). Sultânü'l Ulemâ, an honest person who did not hesitate to speak to anyone, would say everything he knew right in his lessons and sermons without knowing any boundaries. Language is the symbol of being human. Language, which is the necessity of being human, the development of thought and emotion, indispensable of respect and love, is a legacy that nations inherited from the past to the present and the future. It is a known fact that individuals speaking the same language have the same background, culture and values, that is, a common destiny. Our expressions clearly carry the values, norms and social control elements, beliefs and traditions of our nation and play an important role in transferring the above-listed ones to future generations with the help of the language they are a part of. Mevlana has a very important place in the history of Turkish literature. In our study, there will be a language study on volume I based on the book "All Stories in Mesnevi" prepared by Mehmet Zeren. Based on the auxiliary verbs in the stories in the book, the idioms in the sentence will be determined. The idioms determined in the work, the number of lines and the number of pages will be determined. Abstract:
The article explores the key vocabulary of 2020 in the network space of Ukraine. Texts of journalistic, official-business style, analytical publications of well-known journalists on current topics are analyzed. Extralinguistic factors of new word formation, their adaptation to the sphere of special and socio-political vocabulary of the Ukrainian language are determined. Examples show modern impressions in the media, their stylistic use and impact on public opinion in a pandemic. New meanings of foreign expressions, media terminology, peculiarities of translation of neologisms from English into Ukrainian have been clarified. According to the materials of the online media, a «dictionary of the coronavirus era» is provided. The journalistic text functions in the media on the basis of logical judgments, credible arguments, impressive language. Its purpose is to show the socio-political problem, to sharpen its significance for society and to propose solutions through convincing considerations. Most researchers emphasize the influential role of journalistic style, which through the media shapes public opinion on issues of politics, economics, education, health care, war, the future of the country. To cover such a wide range of topics, socio-political vocabulary is used first of all – neutral and emotionally-evaluative, rhetorical questions and imperatives, special terminology, foreign words. There is an ongoing discussion in online publications about the use of the new foreign token «lockdown» instead of the word «quarantine», which has long been learned in the Ukrainian language. Research on this topic has shown that at the initial stage of the pandemic, the word «lockdown» prevailed in the colloquial language of politicians, media personalities and part of society did not quite understand its meaning. Lockdown, in its current interpretation, is a restrictive measure to protect people from a dangerous virus that has spread to many countries; isolation of the population («stay in place») in case of risk of spreading Covid-19. In English, US citizens are told what a lockdown is: «A lockdown is a restriction policy for people or communities to stay where they are, usually due to specific risks to themselves or to others if they can move and interact freely. The term «stay-at-home» or «shelter-in-place» is often used for lockdowns that affect an area, rather than specific locations». Content analysis of online texts leads to the conclusion that in 2020 a special vocabulary was actively functioning, with the appropriate definitions, which the media described as a «dictionary of coronavirus vocabulary». Media broadcasting is the deepest and pulsating source of creative texts with new meanings, phrases, expressiveness. The influential power of the word finds its unconditional embodiment in the media. Journalists, bloggers, experts, politicians, analyzing current events, produce concepts of a new reality. The world is changing and the language of the media is responding to these changes. It manifests itself most vividly and emotionally in the network sphere, in various genres and styles.
