Abstract:

Because planning management of the leisure and tourism-oriented suburban villages lags behind, a series of problems occur: sustainable development of rural tourism is limited, and the content of planning management is unclear, and implement does not reach the designed position. In order to solve these problems, through research and analysis, we master the status quo of planning management of leisure and tourism-oriented suburban villages in China, and determine the content of planning management. The author analyze the interactive relationship between system theory and leisure and tourism-oriented suburban rural planning management and construct a planning management system based on the perspective of systems theory. The informatization design of system was achieved by information technology. The results show that the informatization system based on the perspective of system theory not only provides a solution for the planning management of the leisure and tourism-oriented suburban villages, but also lays a foundation for software development and website function design.

Abstract:

Purpose This paper aims to explore Indian consumer behaviour towards tourism and identifies their preferences when planning leisure trips. Design/methodology/approach Based on a literature review, a questionnaire was designed giving more focus on pleasure or leisure trips. After that data were collected using an online survey method, and this yielded 165 responses that were analysed by using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Findings The findings reveal that among Indian tourists, highland locations are the most preferred location for a leisure trip. While selecting a tourist location and planning a leisure trip, Indian consumers look for security and safety followed by the available amenities, budget and weather conditions. Family and friends’ suggestions and the various activities available at the destination also have a moderate impact on the consumer’s choices. Research limitations/implications The article contributes to emerging research on the Indian tourism industry and consumer behaviour in tourism. Practical implications Research can help tourism companies and agencies to design innovative solutions to increase as well as maintain their customer base. Originality/value This article adds some value to the current literature specifically related to leisure tourism. The factors identified that impact on consumer decisions (including demographic factors) can be further investigated to provide innovative solutions.

Abstract:

There is an abundance of information sources on the Internet that consumers use to plan and book their travel. This information reflects the fact that travel comprises a significant part of the business conducted through the web. Consumers are sometimes faced with a complex task of making purchasing decisions in the dynamic and fast-paced medium of the Internet. In spite of the importance of travel and the intricacies of the decision process, an integrated framework that identifies the various determinants of the online leisure travel planning decision process and how they interact, is largely absent in travel literature. This study aims to make a contribution by extracting from relevant literature useful elements that could comprise such a framework. It also uses several phases of qualitative research to refine the framework, and then a quantitative assessment of data collected from an online questionnaire completed by 1,198 respondents to test specific components of the framework that deal with online travel booking intention. In the final model building stage, three logistic regression models were compared. The first is a parsimonious one containing key determinants that lead to online travel booking intention. These determinants emerged from theoretical frameworks of the theory of reasoned action and innovation adoption theory. The second Model used strictly involvement, motivation, and knowledge variables that are thought to influence online booking intention. The third Model included a combination of relevant predictor variables from the other two Models. The relationship between various demographics and online travel booking intention was investigated yielding some interesting insights. Consequently, this study recommends these demographic variables be considered in segmenting travelers to find those more likely to book online. The determinants of online leisure travel booking decision processes could be used in conjunction with demographic variables to more accurately predict leisure travel website usage.

Abstract:

The overall objective of this study is to establish the extent to which an ERP system could be used within the management of British Tennis. Whilst ERP systems are used extensively in commercial organisations, there is little research into the use of these systems in the management of sport by the National Governing Bodies and by the operational providers of sport facilities. This supports the specific finding in the Game Plan (National Strategy Unit, 2002), which identified that the management systems within sports administration need to be improved and that there is a general lack of research within this specific area. The research proposes an ERP framework which can be implemented to achieve a number of improvements in operations and to enable other opportunities such as targeted marketing. Porter’s Value Chain is used as a model to investigate the organisations involved in the provision of tennis, and this model brings together the two concepts of multi-organisational structures and ERP systems. This enables the selected modules of the ERP system to be mapped on the value chain, and a new value network to be created. This research uses a predominantly qualitative method which incorporates an iterative approach to the investigation, based on the model by Bryman. Iteration One uses a mixture of indepth and semi-structured interviews to establish and corroborate the themes identified as part of the literature review. Also there are additional areas of theory identified as part of the data collection process which are explored in more depth. The second iteration is then used to gather further information and information confirmatory to the first iteration. Findings demonstrate a mixture of governmental, commercial, profit-making and not-forprofit organisations that have no central system in use. The research proposes that a central ERP system, including a number of functional modules, could be implemented into this environment and that it would deliver benefits to all organisations, including cost reduction, managerial benefits, strategic benefits, improved IT infrastructure and organisational benefits.

The death of distance does not equal the death of cities and of urban life. Cities are transforming their roles and functions in reaction to a major technological shift --from post-industrial to informational. And contrary to popular belief, new telecommunications infrastructure will increase the significance of some cities as important physical meeting places. A host of new network cities have emerged from this new global infrastructure which supports the rapidly growing world of information technology. These cities, once the centers of manufacturing, are now the centers for the production of information that is distributed electronically around the globe. Contemporary cities are not just dense physical agglomerations of buildings, the crossroads of transportation networks, or the main center of economic, social and cultural life, but also the electronic hubs for telecommunication networks. Techno logy has extended the geographic reach of these cities to enable their denizens to interact more, both electronically and face-to-face. And as the material and intellectual basis of our society change due to the new digital revolution, widely accepted dichotomies --in particular, real/virtual, mind/body, local/global and natural/artificial-- are blurred and call for re-redefinition. New patterns of living and working are also emerging from these changes. By far, the largest impact of this electronic communication network is on the workplace, particularly in the growing area of information work. The workplace is today much more flexible both in terms of time and place. I believe that the office, now only one of many workplaces, will be used especially for intense face-to-face and collaborative work. Th is flexible and more sociable aspect of work and the ubiquitous and fine-grained nature of digital flow is blurring the, once, clear boundary between work and leisure. Abstract:

This research investigates the influence of national culture on the trip planning and purchase-consumption behaviour of international leisure travellers. This study focuses on achieving a theory-driven, rigorous study that covers a large number of national cultures in empirically testing systematic relations between national values and overseas leisure travel behaviour. The study proposes a conceptual model linking four sets of generalized national value dimensions drawn from the Hofstede, Schwartz and Inglehart studies with trip planning and purchase-consumption behaviours, drawing on and extending the model of a tourism consumption system suggested by Woodside and King (2001). Both country- and individual-level control variables are incorporated in the model. Per capita GDP and statutory annual leave are country-level covariates; prior-destination experience, trip purpose, age and gender are individual-level covariates. In addition to these covariates, trip itinerary planning and total external search are included in models of consumption behaviours. Secondary data obtained from the quarterly Australian International Visitor Survey (from quarter one 2000) is used to test the proposed model. The final sample for the study comprises international leisure travellers from 22 Asian, European and North American countries. Trip planning and consumption behaviours are taken as the dependent variables in a series of weighted and multi-level (HLM) regression models where the independent variables include national values, per capita income and statutory leave (at the country-level) and four travel segments constructed from prior-destination experience and trip purpose, age and gender at the individual-level, as well as trip itinerary planning and total search. The study found that national values play a significant role in influencing both trip planning and purchase-consumption behaviour. National values were found to have a stronger impact on trip planning behaviours than on consumption behaviours at a destination. The four sets of national values differed in explanatory power as did, the three national culture models in an international tourism context, although there was substantial convergent validity across the three models of national culture. The impact of national values on overseas leisure travel behaviour was strongest among the holiday travellers and the youngest (15-24) female tourists, followed by older (45-55plus) tourists. The study contributes a theory-driven, rigorous investigation of national culture and overseas leisure travel behaviour by provision of comprehensive conceptual model and by empirically testing the hypotheses on a large number of countries. It enriches our understanding of the role of national culture on cross-cultural consumer behaviour. The study's findings may assist in developing more effective international destination marketing strategy (e.g., positioning, communication and products-services development) by showing the potential usefulness of national values. Finally, several avenues for future research are suggested including direct measurement of cultural values, further empirical testing based on larger samples, further advances in the conceptual model adding post-purchase behaviour and other confounding variables.

Abstract:

The purpose of this project is to explore how the community planning and style of housing of Temple Terrace Estates embodies the socio-economic conflicts inherent to the United States in the 1920s. To account for missing narratives, I will approach this research from a critical cultural perspective. I chose this approach as a way to investigate the power dynamics in the city during the time it was known as Temple Terrace Estates Inc. The Estates attracted investors by encouraging northerners to purchase a Mediterranean Revival or Spanish Colonial style villa in conjunction with a parcel of a large orange grove, which would be tended by paid laborers. The rigorous nostalgia for a colonial past resulted in marginalization of the laboring class and a loss of their voice in history. Thus, my objective is to bring attention to unrepresented experiences that exist within a dominant narrative The following chapters outline the history of Temple Terrace Estates, examine primary sources, and discuss my experience of living in the city. They also explain the theories and methods I use in the analysis such as space/place theory, critical cultural theory, and suburban theory. I tell the story of the conception and construction of The Estates as part of the story of Tampa, Florida, and the United States during the 1920s. Next, I examine the presence of both domestic and agricultural labor in the Estates and discuss the inherent exclusion of laborer's voices in the city's history. I analyze maps, ads, marketing, newspaper thesiss, housing styles, and agricultural practices of the Estates. Knowledge of the city's past provides a way to create meaning in contemporary issues such as historic preservation, crime, and education in the city. Addressing social inequality and implied violence in the history of labor at the Estates might strengthen current accusations of continued racism. However, the omission of the voices of laborers also perpetuates secrecy and mistrust. If Temple Terrace's recent initiative toward historic status is to succeed, there must be support from the community. Scholars and community members of Temple Terrace must acknowledge the continual re-production and re-presentation of the past with a more inclusive narrative. This study demonstrates that the application of critical cultural theory has relevant application today in its ability to diffuse current conflict and aid in historic preservation. Inclusive narratives of the past can help produce safer and more beautiful more beautiful communities for the future.

Abstract:

Purpose – The purpose of the research was to examine the attitudes of local cycle tourism stakeholders towards cycle tourism development in Istria County and its impact on the destination. Also, the goal was to determine local stakeholders’ general opinions and suggestions regarding past and future cycle tourism development. Methodology – The research target group was local cycle tourism stakeholders in Istria County. For the research purpose an online questionnaire was created. The research was carried out online from April 7, 2020, to July 5, 2020. In total, 201 questionnaires were collected. Findings – As the research results show, local stakeholders have a generally positive attitude towards cycle tourism development in the destination. Most respondents evaluated that the local community benefits from cycle tourism development in the destination and that cycle tourism development additionally promotes the destination. Moreover, 30% of local stakeholders consider that they should be more involved in developing and planning cycle tourism in Istria County. Contribution – The paper’s practical value is that research results can be used as a relevant database in future planning of these tourism products. Also, insights obtained by conducting empirical research can contribute to a better understanding of how the local stakeholders can be involved in planning tourism in the destination

Abstract:

Okinotorishima is the Japanese southernmost tropical island and has the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of about 430,000km2 area. It is located approximately 1,700km away from Tokyo and 1,100km away from Okinawa and consists of a coral reef of 7.6km2 area and two islands within the reef. In the waters of Okinotorishima, sea bottom mineral resources such as manganese nodule and cobalt rich manganese crust, biological resources such as fish and renewable energy resources such as ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC), wind force and solar power are promising. The objective of this research is to propose an OCEAN CITY Planning to administrate and utilize Okinotorishima and its surrounding waters (EEZ) and to report the development of mechanical connector, which is a key technology to construct the OCEAN CITY in its waters. In the OCEAN CITY, economic activity, research and development (R&D) activity and sightseeing/leisure activity are performed based on the resources mentioned above. The proposed OCEAN CITY consists of a semisubmersible floating ring structure and a semisubmersible floating rectangular runway. The ring structure and the runway are constructed with mechanically connected multiple floating units of about 300m length each. Both semisubmersible structures are also connected by mechanical connectors. In this paper, it is shown that the OCEAN CITY can produce electricity, water and food for the use in the city and for the sale outside the city. It is also shown that the mechanical connector, which is indispensable for very large floating structures such as the proposed OCEAN CITY used in open seas, has been promisingly developed.

Abstract:

Environmental perception of the residential community has a non-negligible impact on a healthy lifestyle for the elderly. The perceived level- and actual satisfaction- of the elderly offered by the “space vitality” of the residential community is closely related to the physical and mental health for the elderly which also largely determines their quality of life. From the perspective of urban planning, it is a crucial measure to identify and effectively regulate the critical environmental impact factors of the residential community that affect the perception and experience of the elderly, to promote the construction of the age-friendly community. This paper took Dalian, China as the research range, and took the elderly as the object of research in relation to the perception of space vitality within the residential community and its associated environment-related factors. Correlation analysis was used to identify the potential environmental factors related to the perception of space vitality by the elderly. It found that the general level of the elderly's perception of space vitality has a positive correlation with many elements of the built environment e.g., the perception of the diversity, or the landscape of leisure places, which are both related to overall spatial quality. However, it does not show a significant correlation with the social environment. Therefore, useful suggestions are made on how to improve the elderly’s perception of space vitality within the residential community, particularly in prior planning and design practice. The optimization of the spatial quality of the built environment should be the core point of concern. By optimizing the arrangement of the relevant elements of the site, the elderly’s level of perception and satisfaction with the space vitality of the residential community should improve; furthermore, the physical and mental health of the elderly will be promoted in line with their quality of life.

Promoting the construction of characteristic towns under the background of new urbanization is an important way for my country to break the bottleneck of economic development and realize economic transformation and upgrading. In recent years, although the construction of characteristic towns in Sichuan Province has achieved remarkable results and a large number, especially tourist and leisure characteristic towns accounted for the largest proportion, they still face urgent problems such as avoiding redundant construction, achieving scientific development, and overall planning. This study takes 20 cultural tourism characteristic towns selected by the first batch of Sichuan Province as the research object, combined with field research and tourist questionnaire surveys, and screened out relevant influencing factors of characteristic towns from different aspects such as transportation, economy, industry, ecology, historical and cultural heritage. Analyze the correlation with the development level of characteristic towns in order to find out the key factors affecting the development of characteristic towns of this type, provide a policy basis for the scientific development and overall planning of reserve characteristic towns in our province, and contribute to the construction of new urbanization And provide advice and suggestions on the development of tourism industry in our province.

Abstract:

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects that COVID-19 outbreak has had on tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and specifically in Sarajevo Canton. Methodology – A survey was conducted in two rounds in March and September 2020, and responses were obtained from 126 running businesses from the tourism in Sarajevo Canton about the actual and expected consequences that COVID-19 outbreak has had on their business. The respondents were asked questions about the effects that COVID-19 has had on their business operations during the first six months of COVID-19 outbreak and their expectations for the future. The questions also included issues related to the government interventions and stimulus packages to overcome the effects of COVID-19 to ensure the sustainability of the tourism in Sarajevo Canton. Findings – Our results show that all businesses have faced a significant downturn in their business operations and had to undertake different measures and activities internally to overcome (and survive) the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results also show that there is very low level of satisfaction with the government interventions to tourism. Contribution – The findings illustrate and confirm many flaws in tourism system in Sarajevo Canton and BiH where tourism has been developing organically and without proper integration of the private and public industry. Our findings can be used for planning purposes and improvement of the situation during COVID-19 and post-COVID-19 period.

With a few exceptions, research on ride-hailing has focused on North American cities. Previous studies have identified the characteristics and preferences of ride-hailing adopters in a handful of cities. However, given their marked geographical focus, the relevance and applicability of such work to the practice of transport planning and regulation in cities in the Global South is minimal. In developing cities, the entrance of new transport services follows very different trajectories to those in North America and Europe, facing additional social, economic, and cultural challenges, and involving different strategies. Moreover, the determinants of mode choice might be mediated by social issues such as the perception of crime and the risk of sexual harassment in public transportation, which is often experienced by women in large cities such as Mexico. This paper examines ride-hailing in the Metropolitan Area of Mexico City, unpacking the characteristics of its users, the ways they differ from users of other transport modes, and the implications for urban mobility. Building on the household travel survey from 2017, our analytical approach is based on a set of categorical models. Findings suggest that gender, age, education, and being more mobile are determinants of ride-hailing adoption. The analysis shows that ride-hailing is used for occasional trips, and it is usually done for leisure and health trips as well as for night trips. The study also reflects on ride-hailings implications for the way women access the city.
