Abstract:
The ability to explain word meanings is central to a child’s language development and socialisation into different domains of language use. In previous research explanations have been shown to be linked to cognitive and linguistic development as well as academic language and discursive skills. This paper analyses what kinds of linguistic and discursive competences are put to use in explanation activities in interactions between an 8-year-old bilingual child (Albin) and his mother around a digital game. The data comes from a larger data set of video-recordings and field observation of children’s interactions around games. The analysis focuses on explanation sequences in which the child explicates the meaning of objects and procedures in the game world. The analysis shows how explanations are initiated, how they unfold in interaction and how they make relevant asymmetrical roles for the participants, allowing the child to construct a position of knowledge with regard to the game, an important part of his life world. More specifically, the analysis elucidates how Albin’s explanations highlight semantic features and relations that are meaningful for him and how he employs a wide range of linguistic and other semiotic resources in constructing his explanations in a context-sensitive way. The findings shed light on linguistic, interactional and multimodal features of explanations as a discourse activity and provide a window into practices of two-way language socialization in the family.

Abstract:
This study is a theoretical and practical assessment of corporeality and its characteristics. The article presents corporeality and somatic vocabulary through the prism of phenomenology as well as their linguistic and stylistic representation in the text. Corporeality is a phenomenological category based on the notion of the “corps sensible.” Its four characteristics are: constancy, reversibility, affectivity and kinesthesis. The study analyses peculiarities of these four characteristics and pays close attention to the phenomenon of kinesthesis. We considered this philosophical concept in the novel Dans le labyrinthe by Alain Robbe-Grillet, representative of the New Novel, who was notably influenced by phenomenology. The analysis of this novel has shown a body of somatic lexicon as one of the linguistic means of representing corporeality. The study has also analyzed the textual realization of the four characteristics of corporeality.

Abstract:
Psychoanalysis, which has emerged as a method of healing through speech, is constantly changing because it takes into account the changing symbolic order and the emergence of an understanding of the unconscious other than what it is based on. In the beginning, the analysis of the unconscious in the Freudian sense is achieved through free associations and slips. Jacques Lacan’s early teachings introduced the idea of the unconscious structured as language, and the understanding of the symptom as a metaphor, and the Name-of-the-Father as the linguistic formula of the Freudian Oedipus complex. The latest, most difficult part of Lacanian psychoanalysis and its full development by Jacques-Alain Miller in the 21st century focuses on the analysis of parlêtre / the speaking being and on the idea of a syntоm that marks the enjoyment of the speaking body, abandoning the concept of language.

Abstract:
In a book titled Le retour de l'acteur (The Return of the Actor), French sociologist, Alain Touraine, writes that "the object of sociology is to explain the behavior of actors by the social relations in which they are placed … . It is the relation, not the actor, that we must study." In this paper, I follow up on the prescriptions of that view of sociology's mission. I illustrate the empirical results of statistical analyses based on network models of event data for the years of high working-class mobilization (1919-20, the "red years") and Fascist counter-mobilization (1921-22, the "black years") in Italy. The data were collected from a newspaper on the basis of a "semantic grammar," the simple linguistic structure centered around subjects, actions, objects and their attributes. That structure, which has at its core Touraine's concern with social actors and relations, allows investigators to go "from words to numbers." The analysis of those numbers confirms the historians' view of that period, the dramatic shift in patterns of collective behavior from the "red years" to the "black years." The analyses also provide some preliminary evidence on the explanatory power of various social science theories of mobilization and of Fascism. More broadly, the paper explores some of the epistemological consequences of relying on story grammars and network models as tools for the collection and analysis of narrative data.

Full text
Abstract:
Alfin-like (AL) proteins are an important class of transcription factor (TF) widely distributed in eukaryotes and play vital roles in many aspects of plant growth and development. AL proteins contain an Alfin-like domain and a specific PHD-finger structure domain at the N-terminus and C-terminus, respectively. The PHD domain can bind to a specific (C/A) CAC element in the promoter region and affect plant growth and development by regulating the expression of functional genes. This review describes a variety of AL transcription factors that have been isolated and characterized in Arabidopsis thaliana, Brassica rapa, Zea mays, Brassica oleracea, Solanum lycopersicum, Populus trichocarpa, Pyrus bretschenedri, Malus domestica, and other species. These studies have focused mainly on plant growth and development, different abiotic stress responses, different hormonal stress responses, and stress responses after exposure to pathogenic bacteria. However, studies on the molecular functional mechanisms of Alfin-like transcription factors and the interactions between different signaling pathways are rare. In this review, we performed phylogenetic analysis, cluster analysis, and motif analysis based on A. thaliana sequences. We summarize the structural characteristics of AL transcription factors in different plant species and the diverse functions of AL transcription factors in plant development and stress regulation responses. The aim of this study was to provide a reference for further application of the functions and mechanisms of action of the AL protein family in plants.

Abstract:
Abstract In the broad field of economic research, the process of resource allocation and the degree of manifestation of the freedom of the competitive market are relevant points of interest in order to achieve in terms of microeconomic performance. Through this work, we have proposed to investigate the extent to which competitive markets tend towards that form of perfection and what are the main challenges and implications for the market freedom. The novelty of this study counts in bringing to the forefront the match-making process, implicitly the study of the match-making market, introduced by the American economist Alvin E. Roth in 2015. In particular, it analyzes a new valence of the competitive market, the operating mechanism being aimed at highlighting a specific terminology, such as linguistic decryption of markets. This paper has extended the concept of matching, by analyzing the ethical issues involved, as well as the way in which we are witnessing a crescendo of concrete examples of the functioning of these markets. At the same time, we used the use of methodological tools specific to the analysis of statistical data on measuring the degree of competitive freedom in the main key sectors in Romania in 2015 and 2019, by applying The Aggregate Index of Competitive Pressure (AICP). The results showed the degree of openness to competition of the main sectors in Romania, as well as the fact that the matching market assumes the effective operation and manifestation of the competitive mechanism.

Abstract:
ALFIN-like transcription factors (ALs) are involved in several physiological processes such as seed germination, root development and abiotic stress responses in plants. In carrot (Daucus carota), the expression of DcPSY2, a gene encoding phytoene synthase required for carotenoid biosynthesis, is induced after salt and abscisic acid (ABA) treatment. Interestingly, the DcPSY2 promoter contains multiple ALFIN response elements. By in silico analysis, we identified two putative genes with the molecular characteristics of ALs, DcAL4 and DcAL7, in the carrot transcriptome. These genes encode nuclear proteins that transactivate reporter genes and bind to the carrot DcPSY2 promoter in yeast. The expression of both genes is induced in carrot under salt stress, especially DcAL4 which also responds to ABA treatment. Transgenic homozygous T3 Arabidopsis thaliana lines that stably express DcAL4 and DcAL7 show a higher survival rate with respect to control plants after chronic salt stress. Of note is that DcAL4 lines present a better performance in salt treatments, correlating with the expression level of DcAL4, AtPSY and AtDXR and an increase in carotenoid and chlorophyll contents. Likewise, DcAL4 transgenic kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa) lines show increased carotenoid and chlorophyll content and higher survival rate compared to control plants after chronic salt treatment. Therefore, DcAL4 and DcAL7 encode functional transcription factors, while ectopic expression of DcAL4 provides increased tolerance to salinity in Arabidopsis and Kiwi plants.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Using Alain Rabatel’s reflections on points of view and enunciative responsibility, especially those founded in his work Homo narrans (2016; 2021), we sought to describe and interpret the operation of internal - enunciative - and interdiscursive - external - in the introduction to the encyclical letter Deus Caritas Est (2005), signed by the Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI, through the description and analysis of enunciative postures. Our main conclusion is that the primary speaker (S1), operates the dialogism of the text, first, from under-utterance and, later, through co-utterance and even over-utterance. S1 assumes part of the enunciative responsibility and associates itself with the New Testament point of view while suggesting an update of the Old Testament. In our terms, the Old one that rules is overthrown in favor of the New one that loves - that is, Christian-Catholic love. This investigation is affiliated with a broad and ongoing research agenda of analysis of modern pontifical discourse.

Advertisement is a public media to promote a product or a service. Shampoo advertisements, especially the ones made for women, always show the advantages that the product gives to the customers. This study construed beauty standard in shampoo advertisements through the visual and linguistic elements, and found the differences in how they construe the beauty standard. This study used four different brands taken from Cosmopolitan magazine from 2016 to 2018. The brands are Love, Beauty and Planet, Loreal Extraordinary Oil, Treseme and Garnier Fructis. This study used the Multimodality approach using two modes, visual and linguistic elements. This study used Generic Structure Potential by Cheong (2004) to divide the linguistic and visual elements, then used Kress and Leeuwen's visual grammar to analyze the visual element (2006) and used Halliday's metafunction to analyze the linguistic elements (1978). Then this study analyzed the interplay of the visual and linguistic elements to construe beauty standards in society using O'Halloran SF-MDA (2008). The study shows that all of the shampoo advertisements have different ways to construe beauty standard in society through the visual and linguistic elements.

Abstract:
Alfin-like (AL) transcription factors are a family of plant-specific genes with a PHD-finger-like structural domain at the C-terminus and a DUF3594 structural domain at the N-terminus that play important roles in plant development and stress response. In the present study, genome-wide identification and analysis were performed of the AL protein family in cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) and three wild relatives (S. pennellii, S. pimpinellifolium, and S. lycopersicoides) to evaluate their response to different abiotic stresses. A total of 39 ALs were identified and classified into four groups and based on phylogenetic tree and evolutionary analysis were shown to have formed prior to the differentiation of monocotyledons and dicots. Moreover, cis-acting element analysis revealed that various phytohormone response and abiotic stress response elements were highly existed in tomato. In addition, further analysis of the SlAL3 gene revealed that its expression was induced by drought and salt stresses and localized to the nucleus. In conclusion, our findings concerning AL genes provide useful information for further studies on their functions and regulatory mechanisms and provide theoretical references for studying AL gene response to abiotic stresses in plants.

Abstract:
This project took a unique perspective on the investigation of decision making in healthcare by examining clinician-patient consultation using methods from linguistics and communication. Our goal was to identify cognitive and behavioral patterns in interactions of clinicians-in-trainings with patients that correspond to decision making processes in time constrained situations. Objective measures of clinician-patient communications in both naturalistic and simulated settings is a promising way to examine clinician decision making under uncertainty and time pressure, and to identify specific errors in decision making that may lead to misdiagnoses. We sought to detect distinguishable patterns of communication adopted by clinicians-in-training in clinical consultation settings under time pressure. A pilot study reported in this paper provides objective measurement tools to study miscommunication within clinician-patient consultations and may positively influence the treatments and services offered within patient consultations.

Some lexical examples from Giraut de Borneil’s lyric corpus (2nd half of the twelfth century) will show how textual scholarship may benefit from the database TrobVers, especially in locating and assessing the manuscript variants. Some cases in point will help shed new light on the relationship between the application of humanities computing to complex instances of textual transmission and broad methodological issues in textual scholarship. The essay argues that the digital interface may help bridge the gap between the neo-Lachmannian recensio and the necessary consideration of contamination and other forms of lexical inno- vation in the various groups of MSS.

Abstract:
Document Analysis has major importance in Information Retrieval Systems. Dredged with vaults of paper and material documents, to protect very important information and the summaries, without losing their meaning and importance, each document need to be properly curated and processed. Ancient written documents possess many types of cursive language character sets, which are very tedious to discriminate the characters and subsequently the right meaning. To overcome the difficulties of reading the cursive language characters and prevent misunderstanding the meaning and the importance of documents, an improvised CNN [6] model to work on OCR and Tesseract API has been proposed in this work. The documents are scanned, curated and preprocessed in the forms of images. CNN are the best algorithms, hitherto in the existing AI and Deep Learning arena. CNN with OCR API could contribute to the development of efficient strategies of character recognition even with complex cursive styles. A method which is adaptable to the classification and segmentation of the text images with cursive styles is proposed I this article. Tesseract is the popular and effective OCR library with rich API that can enrich the CNN-OCR model

Abstract:
This paper considers the linguistic analysis of kinship terms on the example of English and Uzbek languages. This paper discusses various approaches to the study of these terms, their classification and criteria for their selection. Kinship determines social relations, determines the place of a person in society and corrects his behavior. Moreover, the terms of kinship and properties reflect the originality of the language, the specifics of the national path, and therefore characterize the national mentality. The terms of kinship belong to one of the most ancient layers of vocabulary, since the establishment of kinship relations took place in parallel with the formation and development of society itself.

Abstract:
Because hit men in the twenty-first-century Mexican drug war engage in paid labor at the extreme end of dehumanizing economic relations, they expose the shifting notions of work, life, and ethics that support contemporary global capitalism. Hannah Arendt's distinctions between labor, work, and action structure this comparative analysis of two 2010 narratives featuring Mexican hit men: a testimonial text titled El Sicario: The Autobiography of a Mexican Assassin and a feature film titled El infierno. These texts explore the subject-producing as well as the destructive effects of murder for hire. Alain Badiou's Ethics illuminates how when professional killing becomes a way of life, it provocatively complicates concepts of the good and the human.

Abstract:
Abstract In sheet metal forming processes, friction increases the force parameters of the forming process and produces a deterioration in the quality of the surface of the components. The basic way to reduce the unfavourable impact of friction is to lubricate the sheet metal surface with commercial oils. This article presents the results of experimental studies and analysis of variance (ANOVA) of the friction of DC01 low-carbon steel sheets using a strip drawing test. For these tests, a special device was built containing countersamples with a flat surface made of 145Cr6 steel covered with a protective AlTiN coating. Lubricants of different viscosities were fed into the contact zone under forced pressure. The effect of contact pressure on the value of the coefficient of friction was also determined. The predicted R² of 0.9227 was in reasonable agreement with the adjusted R² of 0.9411 confirming that the ANOVA model was reliable. It was found that increasing the lubricant pressure had a beneficial effect in reducing the value of the coefficient of friction. The higher the contact pressure, the more effectively the pressurised oil reduced the value of the coefficient of friction.

Abstract:
This qualitative, corpus-based, and contextual analysis approach aimed to give and provide the linguistic features and functions in male and female social media updates. The purpose of this study was to help the students assess the posts of social media users and to find out if there are linguistic features or linguistic functions found in their social media updates. In this study, there were a total of sixty-two (62) corpora taken from both male and female social media updates that are categorized into five linguistic features, including the intensifiers, tag questions, questions on declarations, lexical hedges, empty adjectives and six linguistic functions including the referential function, poetic function, emotive function, conative function, phatic function and metalingual function. Results revealed that in social media updates of males and females, linguistic features and functions are found by contextualizing their posts in the adopted linguistic frame of analysis. Also, it helps future English students know the linguistic features and linguistic functions as their basis, using other platforms for them to be responsible for posting online. It serves as their point of reference for the students and English instructors to unearth the linguistic aspect in social media, particularly in males and females.
