Year to year fluctuations in 0+ fish cohort strength are a common phenomenon. Many factors can affect cohort strength during the fish's early life period. Stable isotope analysis (SIA) provides an alternative dietary analysis tool to SCA, with use of fin tissue, scales and/or epidermal mucus potentially enabling its non-destructive application. Activities of digestive enzymes and main histological characteristics of the intestine were investigated in larvae of three salmonid species (Coregonus maraena, C. atterensis, Thymallus thymallus), of burbot (Lota lota), and pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) at the onset of exogenous feeding (0 day degrees (°d)) and at 250°d thereafter. At the onset of exogenous feeding the activities of proteolytic, lipolytic, and carbohydrate splitting enzymes were detected in the intestines of all species. The enzymatic activities showed significant species specific differences indicating specializations in fun

The aim of this work was to determine the impact of etomidate (Propiscin) dose (1 and 2 ml l−1) and exposure time (2 and 10 min) on the biochemical and haematological parameters of juvenile pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) [mean body length (Lc) 25.9 cm; body weight (W) 189.9 g] that were reared in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). Significant changes in the mean values of total protein, globulin, calcium, magnesium, and ammonia were noted in all groups immediately following exposure. The greatest changes in the haematological indicators were observed in groups subjected to 10-min exposur

Abstract. Over the last 50 years, the concept of sustainable development has been introduced all across the world. It involves the transformation of all branches of the economy based on the "green economy". Fishery, which is based on the exploitation of natural resources and directly affects the ecological and food security of the country, is primarily subject to restructuring due to the need to achieve the goals of sustainable development. The latter means that the needs of the current generation must be fulfilled without creating obstacles for future generations. Accordingly, there is a prob

In 2009-15 in the Small of Bay South Caspian during the ichthyological research, 119 species of zander- Sander lucioperca (Linne, 1758) were caught. Their bioecological characteristics (length, weight and body fatness, age composition, length etc.) were identified. Due to the significant impact of zander, which is a predatory fish, on population dynamics of peaceful fishes, the regulation of its reserve is of great importance. To this end, the development of spinning recreational fishing in the bay is proposed.

Abstract Pikeperch, Sander lucioperca (L.) is a valuable species that is in high demand among consumers due to its nutritional features such as delicious meat, white and soft texture and lack of intermascualr bones. The main barriers in the development of pikeperch aquaculture are the challenges of its larviculture. A major problem in the larval period is that pikeperch must feed on live food, which imposes high costs on producers. Therefore, substituting live food with formulated diets is necessary, but this process cannot be performed easily and it requires an action plan to be successful. T
