Abstract:
Kalabari-Ijo (hereafter, Kalabari) is one of the four lects of the KOIN group of East Ijo of the Ijo language cluster in the Niger-Congo phylum (Williamson & Blench 2000: 22). The other lects in this group are Kirike (Okrika), Ibani and Nkoroo. Kirike and Ibani are mutually intelligible with Kalabari, and Nkoroo is partially so. All the lects in this group are spoken in Rivers State, Nigeria. In addition, there are three other groups of Ijo: Nembe-Akaha (Akassa) in East Ijo, Inland Ijo (Oruma, Akita (Okordia), Biseni) and Izon, which together make up West Ijo. These groups are all spoken in Bayelsa State, Nigeria, with Izon spreading further to the west (Williamson, p.c.).

Abstract This paper aims to describe the origin of the Lithuanian discontinuatives nebe- / jau nebe- ‘no more, no longer’. In van der Auwera’s terms they represent the so-called ‘still’ discontinuatives, i.e. they consist of a continuative morpheme -be- and negation ne-. In Old Lithuanian texts (16th century) their productivity is strictly connected to the area of Lithuania Minor (former East Prussia). Both variants (i.e. nebe- / jau nebe- ‘no more, no longer’) have structural counterparts in German, which seems to suggest that nebe- and jau nebe- have come into being under influence of German.

Abstract:
In Nembe, ideophones, as in symbolic words in all languages in general, there is direct connection between sounds and the meanings they convey. For Nembe ideophones describing the fields of size and shape. there are peculiar strategies for accomplishing this connection. For size', medial alveolars as well as vowels in the narrow set are used for smallness, while medial velars and vowels in the wide set are used for largeness. For shape, on the other hand, consonant and vowel melodies are used rather than single phonic units. A sequence of three different consonants invariably refers to crooked shape while a sequence of three consonants ending in two identical liquids refers to straight shape, etc. However, this whole neat pattern is complicated 'by the existence of hierarchies of phonosemantic suggestiveness whereby certain phonosemantic units displace others away from their legitimate values, leading to both the ability of otherwise opposing psychomorphs to get into construction and the ability of simultaneous multiple field representation by ideophones.

Abstract:
This work aims at identifying and describing the articulatory characteristics of the bilabial and guttural consonant phonemes of the Surgut dialect of the Khanty language by distributive analysis. The Khanty language is characterized by a pronounced dialect fragmentation. The Surgut dialect is one of the Eastern Khanty dialects. A number of works are devoted to its vocalism, while only one paper addresses the Surgut consonantism. The system of the Surgut dialect consonants is characterized by several features, with one being the alternation of fricative bilabial [w], guttural non-labialized [ɣ], and guttural labialized [ɣЮ] consonants. According to experimental studies conducted in the V. M. Nadelyaev Laboratory of Experimental-Phonetic Researches, Institute of Philology, SB RAS, these sounds have been found to alternate not only in speakers of different Surgut sub-dialects but also in the speech of one speaker. This study examined the word forms with target sounds found in the dictionary of the Eastern Khanty dialects by N. I. Tereshkin. The paper presents language material, with a series of words in different phonetic contexts and a summary distribution table. Following N. S. Trubetskoy’s rules of phoneme distinction, we performed a sound analysis and identified two phonemes: the bilabial rounded phoneme /w/ and the guttural hypothetical pho-neme /ɣ/. The bilabial one was found to have two allophones [w, ɣЮ], with the guttural phoneme realized only in one allophone [ɣ].

Abstract:
The article examines the expressive activity of intertext in philosophical prose. The relevance of the work is due to the lack of a special scientific study devoted to the expressive activity of intertext. The object of the study was Bakytzhan Momyshuly’s philosophical novel “The Trail of a bird in the sky”. Intertextual elements link the text with other texts of the functional style. In this regard, intertextual elements are found in a literary text in various typologies and perform a different function. Expressiveness means strengthening the content of this text, systematization of certain information, drawing attention to it. The implementation of the expressive function of the intertext is possible only when the intertext is connected to the communication process, i.e. to the communication process. Expressiveness, according to many researchers, consists in a complex understanding, the main components of which express each other and interact in language. These include emotionality, intensity, imagery, evaluation. Artistic text is especially characterized by expressiveness as a means of creating artistic images. An artistic image is the basis of a literary text. In philosophical novels, it is reflected in the form of emotions, feelings, states of consciousness, connecting reality and fiction through the imagination of the writer. Possessing artistic and aesthetic qualities, the language of fiction refers to a certain system of means of verbal and artistic expression. Artistic speech has its own linguistic features. Expressiveness contributes to the creation of new means of conveying the thoughts and feelings of the speaker. A philosophical text affects the reader emotionally and aesthetically by communicating certain information. The difference between the concepts of expressiveness and emotionality made it possible to clarify a number of provisions concerning expressive semantics. The work of E. M. Galkina-Fedoruk, L. E. Mikhailova is devoted to the correlation of the concepts of expressiveness, emotionality. In their opinion, the category of emotionality is divided into several types: expressiveness-emotionality-evaluative (emotional); words defining moral assessment (decent, honest) refer to units of emotional assessment as expressive. The author’s position: even without expressiveness, these units cannot be emotionally evaluative. Although many linguists have studied the theoretical foundations of linguistic expression in fiction and its practical application, it is the expressive function of intertext in works of fiction that has not yet been sufficiently studied.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to critically examine the multinational oil companies’ (MOCs’) corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Nigeria. Its special focus is to investigate the impact of Global Memorandum of Understandings (GMOUs) on rural young people involved in non-timber forest products (NTFPs) for sustainable livelihood in Niger Delta, Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach Data for this study were collected from primary sources, using participatory rural appraisal technique of semi-structured interview questionnaire. The use of participatory research techniques in collecting CSR impact data especially as it concerns the rural young people is because it involves the people being studied, and their views on all the issues are paramount. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse the data. Inferential statistical tool – estimation of logit model was used to test the two research hypothesis. Findings The results indicate that GMoUs have not given adequate attention to young people as a special target sub-group who live in rural areas and depend mostly on NTFPs. Results also show that a number of factors hindering rural young people from the use and development of NTFPs include a policy vacuum, non-destructive harvesting, and destruction of natural habitats, bushfires, population growths and high demands. Research limitations/implications The semi-structured interview questionnaire was directly administered by the researchers with the help of research assistants. The use of local research assistants was because of the inability of the researchers to speak the different local languages and dialects of the many ethnic groups of Ijaws, Ogonis, Ikweres, Etches, Ekpeyes, Ogbas, Engennes, Obolos, Isokos, Nembes, Okirikas, Kalabaris, Urhobos, Iteskiris, Igbos, Ika-Igbos, Ndonis, Orons, Ibenos, Yorubas, Ibibios, Anangs, Efiks, Bekwarras, Binis, Eshans, Etsakos, Owans, Itigidis, Epies, Akokoedos, Yakkurs, etc., in the sampled rural communities. Practical implications An appropriate GMoU-intervention framework for sustainable promotion of NTFPs, domestication of NFTPs, improving harvesting and processing techniques are necessary to facilitate good security, reduction of poverty and improved livelihoods, particularly for the economically-marginalized and forest-dependent rural young people is imperative. Social implications Sustainable livelihoods of the forest-dependent rural young people in sub-Saharan Africa would require some focussed CSR interventions on the NTFPs for sustainable livelihood. Facilities pertaining to storage, grading, processing and value addition through the convergence of existing schemes and programmes should be promoted and created. MOCs are in a position to empower the rural young people with information about the market, policy and products to enable the rural people strategizing and accessing returns from NTFPs in sub-Saharan Africa. Originality/value This research adds to the literature on multinational enterprises’ CSR initiatives in developing countries and rationale for demands for social projects by host communities. It concludes that business has an obligation to help in solving problems of sustainable livelihood.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to critically examine the multinational oil companies’ (MOCs) corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Nigeria. Its special focus is to investigate the impact of the global memorandum of understanding (GMoU) on rural women livestock keepers in the oil producing communities. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses a quantitative methodology. Data were collected from primary sources using participatory rural appraisal technique. The use of participatory research technique in collecting CSR impact data especially as it concerns the small-scale women livestock keeper is based on the fact that it involves the people being studied, and their views on all the issues are paramount. The primary tool used for household survey (collection of the primary data) is a structured questionnaire which is divided into two sections. Section one of the instrument elicited information on the socio-economic characteristics of respondent, while the other section elicited information on the research questions. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data so as to answer the research questions and test the hypothesis. To answer the research questions, descriptive statistics of measurement of central tendency was used, and the results were presented in tables and charts. While in testing the hypothesis, inferential statistical tool-estimation of logit model (of receipt and non-receipt of MOCs CSR through the GMoU by rural women livestock keepers as function of selected socio-economic and domestic empowerment variables) was used. Findings The findings show that GMoU model is gender insensitive as rural women rarely have direct access to livestock interventions except through their husband or adult sons, which is attributed to the cultural and traditional context of the people, anchored in beliefs, norms and practices that breed discrimination and gender gap in the rural societies. Research limitations/implications The structured questionnaire was directly administered by the researchers with the help of local research assistants. Practical implications If the rural women do not feel GMoUs efforts to eliminate discrimination and promote equality in the livestock sector, feminized poverty would create a hostile environment for MOCs in the region. Social implications The livestock development in Nigeria can only succeed if CSR is able to draw on all the resources and talents and if rural women are able to participate fully in the GMoUs intervention plans and programs. Originality/value This research contributes to gender debate in livestock keeping from CSR perspectives in developing countries and rational for demands for social projects by host communities. It concludes that business has an obligation to help in solving problems of public concern, and that CSR priorities in Africa should be aimed toward addressing the peculiarity of the socio-economic development challenges of the country and be informed by socio-cultural influences.

Abstract:
The dissertation aims at showing the differences in dealing with the death issue in characteristic works of art of both Czech and world literature. Above all, it pursues the comparison of two novels Život střídá smrt ("Life Becomes Death") by Petr Prouza and Nebe nemá dno ("Heaven is Bottomless") by Hana Andronikova. Both unique books belong to key Czech novels with the topic of death. Moreover, both of them deal with death from the point of personal experience, which means they are strongly autobiographical. The dissertation concentrates on creative processes and topical aspects, grasps autobiographical elements of both novels and all the identities and differences in the approach to the same topic. Therefore, the dissertation is devoted to listing the works of art dealing with death, further on to the analyses, interpretation and comparison of the novels Život střídá smrt ("Life Becomes Death") and Nebe nemá dno ("Heaven is Bottomless") together with the reflexion of reader's experience.
