Trivedi, Arjav. "Shelf-edge exchange in a numerical model of the Shetland shelf." Thesis, Imperial College London, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10044/1/52909.

Abstract:
The fast Shetland slope current flows on one side of the Faroe-Shetland Channel (FSC). Mesoscale activity and bottom friction are mechanisms that affect the slope current, helping to mix water and tracers across the shelf-edge. We simulate the FSC dynamics using a high resolution (~ 2km) hydrostatic configuration of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology General Circulation Model (MITgcm). The model was validated against a variety of observations: surface currents; Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs); Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs); hydrographic observations; and shelf-edge exchange

Zora Cross (1890–1964) is considered a minor literary figure, but 100 years ago she was one of Australia’s best-known authors. Her book of poetry Songs of Love and Life (1917) sold thousands of copies during the First World War and met with rapturous reviews. She was one of the few writers of her time to take on subjects like sex and childbirth, and is still recognised for her poem Elegy on an Australian Schoolboy (1921), written after her brother was killed in the war. Zora Cross wrote an early history of Australian literature in 1921 and profiled women authors for the Australian Woman’s Mirr

South Africa has an extensive coastline offshore of which lies the prominent South African continental shelf, a relatively flat extension of the onshore coastal plain. The continental shelf is host to major mineral and petroleum deposits, home to South Africa’s major sea fisheries and full of navigation hazards. Therefore, knowledge of the seafloor features, or bathymetry, of the continental shelf is essential to understanding both its long-term geological evolution and present-day use for resources and navigation.
