Abstract:
This paper presents a thorough study of the behaviour of microwave absorption occurring in lossy dielectric slabs as used for microwave absorbers. The influence of the various parameters governing absorption is demonstrated : dielectric constant, conductivity, thickness of slab and frequency. It is shown that for several combinations of values for these parameters absorption can be maximized to up to unity, i.e. all the incident power is absorbed.

Abstract:
We introduce the notion of a parametricS-metric space as generalization of a parametric metric space. Using some expansive mappings, we prove a fixed-point theorem on a parametricS-metric space. It is important to obtain new fixed-point theorems on a parametricS-metric space because there exist some parametricS-metrics which are not generated by any parametric metric. We expect that many mathematicians will study various fixed-point theorems using new expansive mappings (or contractive mappings) in a parametricS-metric space.

Full text
Abstract:
Vibropeening is a surface treatment process, which combines the peening effect of introducing residual stress with the polishing effect of reducing surface roughness in one single process step. Vibropeening equipment induces vibrations into the media to impart residual compressive stresses in sub-surface layers, as well as polishing on the surface of the work piece. In addition to process parameters, such as vibration frequency, amplitude, and media mass, which are well known in literature, this paper will focus on the study of two additional parameters: immersion depth and process time. It was found that the lower-middle section of the vibratory trough produced the highest Almen deflection. Different continuous treatment times were also studied to explore the maximum introducible residual compressive stress state, and it was concluded that an optimal time range is required to achieve the best residual stress profile. The study demonstrates that different process parameters can influence the effectiveness of the vibropeening process, and that these can be potentially optimized for higher treatment capability.

Abstract:
The article aims to evaluate the business efficiency of commercial banks in Vietnam using both parametric and non-parametric approaches. In this study, the Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA), which belongs to a parametric method, and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), a non-parametric approach, are applied to a sample of 30 joint stock commercial banks in Vietnam in the period of 2011–2015. Applying Tobit regression model, the impact of bank size, bank age, and the ownership feature on the efficiency of bank service industry in Vietnam is also investigated. The analysis results show that in general, the Vietnamese banking efficiency is improving during the selected period regardless of techniques used. However, there is small level of similarity in efficiency rankings identified from the SFA and DEA models. In terms of efficiency determinants, the results show that all three variables of size, age, and state ownership have a positive impact on bank efficiency.

Abstract:
Since the time of bondage and feudalism, the world has watched progressed innovative and authoritative advancement, which caused increment in the productivity of financial associations. As per Wilkin (1997), acknowledgment of financial proficiency as a key basis of monetary valuation can be followed to represent ants of traditional financial aspects, for the most part Adam Smith and in addition represent ants of exemplary utilitarianism, including John Stuart Mill and Jeremy Bentham who advanced progressivism and independence. Financial radicalism advocates free enterprise private enterprise, liberal standards of basic leadership and underlines the significance of firm proficiency. These thoughts were acknowledged by neo-pragmatist hypotheses with exceptional commitment of Ludwig von Misses and Friedrich A. von Hayek. Proficiency has regularly been related to profitability. Adam Smith in his popular book "An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations" expresses that the division of work will give the best enhancement in profitability and specialist's ability. Increment in the efficiency of work, as indicated by Smith, was inferable from the sparing of the work time and to the innovation of an incredible number of machines which encourage and abbreviate work and empower one man to take every necessary step of many (Bremondt et al., 2015).

Abstract:
The emerging area of the internet of things (IoT) generates a large amount of data from IoT applications such as health care, smart cities, etc. This data needs to be analyzed in order to derive useful inferences. Machine learning (ML) plays a significant role in analyzing such data. It becomes difficult to select optimal algorithm from the available set of algorithms/classifiers to obtain best results. The performance of algorithms differs when applied to datasets from different application domains. In learning, it is difficult to understand if the difference in performance is real or due to random variation in test data, training data, or internal randomness of the learning algorithms. This study takes into account these issues during a comparison of ML algorithms for binary and multivariate classification. It helps in providing guidelines for statistical validation of results. The results obtained show that the performance measure of accuracy for one algorithm differs by critical difference (CD) than others over binary and multivariate datasets obtained from different application domains.

Abstract:
We study the interaction of structural subtyping with parametric polymorphism and recursively defined type constructors. Although structural subtyping is undecidable in this setting, we describe a notion of parametricity for type constructors and then exploit it to define parametric subtyping , a conceptually simple, decidable, and expressive fragment of structural subtyping that strictly generalizes rigid subtyping . We present and prove correct an effective saturation-based decision procedure for parametric subtyping, demonstrating its applicability using a variety of examples. We also provide an implementation of this decision procedure as an artifact.

Abstract:
Sonic crystals are periodic structures made of sound hard scatterers which attenuate sound in a range of frequencies. For an infinite periodic structure, this range of frequencies is known as band gap, and is determined by the geometric arrangement of the scatterers. In this paper, a parametric study on rectangular sonic crystal is presented. It is found that geometric spacing between the scatterers in the direction of sound propagation affects the center frequency of the band gap. Reducing the geometric spacing between the scatterers in the direction perpendicular to the sound propagation helps in better sound attenuation. Such rectangular arrangement of scatterers gives better sound attenuation than the regular square arrangement of scatterers. The model for parametric study is also supported by some experimental results.

Abstract:
Over molded pad array carrier (OMPAC) also called as ball grid array (BGA) has been used in products, such as hand held two way radio within Motorola. Now it has gained interest outside Motorola in companies like Compaq for portable computers and AT&T for the telephone systems. The reduced size, thickness, and increased I/O density at the board level are the attractive features of the OMPAC package over other competing package types. In Ref. [1, 2], life time of C5 solder interconnects under temperature cycle loading was reported. That study was based on nonlinear FEM simulation incorporating creep behavior of the solder. In the current study, influence of four key package design variables on C5 solder reliability is addressed using analyses methodology described in Ref. [1, 2]. The selected design variables are thickness of the substrate, the C5 pitch, solder ball diameter, and height to diameter (h/d) ratio of the C5 interconnect. For each design variable, three levels (low, middle, and high) are considered. The full study required a total of 81 simulation runs. However, statistical design of experiments were used and an L9 design was selected in the current study. The maximum permanent strain range for stabilized temperature cycle was calculated for all the nine case studies. In all the cases it occurs at the substrate interface in the solder ball just inside the edge of the die. The response (maximum total permanent strain range and thus maximum number of temperature cycles before failure) as a function of the four design variables are studied and the trends are: as the substrate thickness, C5 ball diameter and C5 (h/d) ratio increases and C5 pitch decreases, the maximum total permanent strain range decreases and thus cycles to failure increases. The order of importance of the design variables for the C5 reliability are (i) the C5 (h/d) ratio, (ii) the C5 ball diameter, (iii) the C5 pitch, and (iv) the substrate thickness. The C5 (h/d) is the key design variable. The maximum total permanent strain range decreases from 0.0055 for (h/d) ratio of 0.5 to 0.0045 for (h/d) ratio of 0.7. This in other words increases cycles to failure from 3000 cycles to 4400 cycles, an improvement of 47 percent.

Abstract:
In this paper, effect of the input DC electrical parameters, such as, pulse shape, cathode voltage and the postacceleration voltage on the performance of reltron oscillator have been investigated. For this purpose, a typical reltron oscillator has been designed and simulated. The mode of excitation, resonant frequency and electric field patterns in the RF modulation cavity of the reltron structure has been studied through electromagnetic simulation. The RF output performance and effect of DC electric pulse shape is studied through 3D PIC simulation. To get a practical insight of the excitation signal effect on the performance of device operation, various pulse shapes with different rise, hold and fall time have been studied the pulse of hold time 70 ns and rise and fall time of 5 ns gives maximum stable RF power. Device parametric analysis for the different cathode and post-acceleration voltages has also been investigated. With a beam current of 750 A, cathode voltage of 200 kV and post-acceleration voltage of 800 kV, the device provides ~350 MW with ~46% efficiency.

A parametric study of the vertical free vibrations of a ship hull is presented. All the effects of the rotary inertia of mass, shear distortion, thrust force, shear lag, and various damping components are taken into account in analysis. The importance of these parameters to ship-hull vibrations is discussed. The method of calculating the overall damping ratios is included and particularly emphasized.

Abstract:
A parametric study of base-isolated structure with different isolation systems is conducted for understanding their dynamic behaviour. The superstructure is idealized as a one-storey structure isolated by different isolation systems. The various isolation systems considered are: the elastomeric bearings (with and without lead core) and the sliding systems (with and without restoring force). The governing equations of motion of the isolated structural system are derived and solved in the time domain. Three time histories of simulated earthquake ground motion are applied to the isolated system and the peak average superstructure acceleration and bearing displacement of the system are plotted under different system parameters in order to study the comparative performance of different isolation systems. The important parameters considered in the study include (i) the time period and damping of the superstructure, (ii) the ratio of the base to superstructure mass, (iii) the isolation period, damping and yield strength of the elastomeric bearings and (iv) the isolation period, damping and coefficient of friction of the sliding systems. It was found that the above isolation system parameters significantly influence the earthquake response of structure. However, the damping and the period of the superstructure do not have noticeable effects on the peak response of base-isolated structure. In addition, the effects of viscous damping are found to be insignificant when the additional damping in the isolation system in the form of such as hysteretic (due to yielding of lead-core) or friction is present.
