Abstract:
The trial brought by the court of the Inquisition of Granada against some members of the cathedral community, including the minstrels and the organist, for the scandal caused during the mass celebrated on the second day of Easter in 1595, which ended with their imprisonment, allows us to know the structure of the choir and the situation and access to the tribunes of the minstrels and the organ. It also confirms that the cathedral had, at that date, six active minstrels in its service, as well as information on the participation of the wind players and the organ in the liturgy of the mass, their timbral combinations and the distribution of the work of the two organists who were salaried by the institution. Finally, it provides information on the bass instruments that the minstrels played outside the sacred sphere for their own entertainment.

The galleons that led the fleet of the Indies carried among their crew several salaried wind players. On its route, one of the most prominent seaports was that of San Juan de Ulúa (Mexico), located in front of Veracruz, a must to get to The Viceroyalty of New Spain. In this port, some of those ministriles died, in whose auction of goods we found various instruments.
