I present a case study of the use of a table-top role-playing game in a mid-level course that presupposes no previous familiarity with philosophy. The course covered philosophical analyses of propaganda and language, and the pedagogical purpose of the game was to help students grasp the basics of philosophical and linguistic theories of assertion quickly. The game, Sign, directs players to create a signed language collaboratively, and thus forces them to pay attention to the subtle ways in which communication occurs.

This paper argues that the identity of buildings through time cannot be reduced to the identity of their designations, their materials or their locations in space and time. The current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders has created a paradox in the treatment of gender dysphoria, in part by redefining the disorder. The new definition implies that the individual’s body, not his or her mind, is disordered, regardless of whether the body shows any sign of abnormal development. Thus, the manual has created a situation where a perfectly healthy body is considered disordered, while a mind that perceives that healthy body to be wrongly sexed is considered healthy. This leads to erroneous and dangerous treatment of the individual.

Chemistry is a science fundamentally characterized by the ability of making its own study objects. Chemistry's unique sign language and representations of structural formulas are highly predictive tools. These aspects, together with the richness of qualitative models, make chemistry highly attractive for philosophical studies. However, philosophy of chemistry is, within the philosophy of science, a still relatively young discipline.
