The durable and reliable work of piston compressors and pumps used in the oil and gas industry has great importance for practice. Investigation of complex problems with respect to mechanical and thermodynamic phenomena in compressors and pumps gives the opportunity to solve the problems of increasing the durability of oil and gas exploitation and transportation. Increasing the efficiency and durability of the compressor-pump stations directly depends on the correct calculations and designing of the different elements and mechanical parameters of piston machines. Refering to figure 1 [Fig.1], an oscillating « flipper » piston (1) and its associated chamber (2) are maintained without reciprocal contact. No oil is required because there is no contact and so no friction. An oscillating shaft (22) maintains the oscillating « flipper »piston (1). Around shaft (22), a twisting seal (8) allows for absolute sealing. This characteristic is important for Stirling engines and oil-free compressors. Referring to figure 4 [Fig.4], the two oscillating « flipper » pistons on the left belong to a Stirling-Franchot engine, more particularly to a Stirling-Franchot engine

Gas leakage is one of the main sources of inefficiencies in low-capacity reciprocating compressors, undermining the compressor performance by reducing the mass flow rate and increasing the energy consumption. In reciprocating compressors, leakage in the piston–cylinder clearance is driven by the piston motion and pressure difference between the compression chamber and the internal environment of the shell. AbstractAll engines involve the raising of pressure in the engine’s medium, be it liquid compression of water, piston-cylinder compression of air or compression by aerodynamic forces. The last is the hardest because it is required to be efficient and stable. An aerodynamic air compressor works by slowing velocities to raise pressure. The airfoil has a difficult time doing this reliably and well and so does the compressor. When it does, it allows for amazing performance of the engine in terms of power and efficiency.
