Abstract:
Context Whereas the serratus anterior (SA) and the upper trapezius (UT) work as a force couple for scapular motion, weakness of the SA and overactivation of the UT are often present in overhead athletes with shoulder dysfunction. Therefore, researchers addressing an intramuscular imbalance between the SA and UT have focused on finding exercises that target the weak SA and minimally activate the UT. Objective To compare the effectiveness of push-up plus (PUP) exercise variants based on the electromyographic (EMG) activity of the SA and UT. Data Sources A systematic search of PubMed and Scopus between January 1, 2000, and March 31, 2008. Study Selection Studies of PUP exercises that involved EMG analysis. Data Extraction We assessed study quality using the Critical Appraisal Skills Program. For the systematic analysis, the following data were extracted: (1) author, year, and study design; (2) participant characteristics; (3) type of PUP intervention; (4) EMG outcome measures; and (5) main results. For the meta-analysis, the EMG data of the SA and UT were calculated using the mean difference of EMG activity with a 95% confidence interval. Data Synthesis Based on 19 studies with 356 participants, different hand positions (the distance between the hands, shoulder-flexion angle, and elbow-flexion angle) and different lower extremity positions variably affected the activation of the SA and UT during the PUP exercise. Also, when participants performed the PUP on an unstable surface compared with a stable surface, UT activity increased 2.74% (95% confidence interval = 0.07%, 5.41%). Conclusions The standard PUP exercise elicited high EMG activity of the SA. Participants generated higher SA and lower UT EMG activity when they performed the PUP exercise on a stable surface in full elbow extension, with the hands placed shoulder-width apart, shoulder-flexion angles of 110° or 120°, and the ipsilateral lower extremity lifted.

Abstract:
Recently, studies on cell surface markers of spermatogonia in combination with germ cell transplantation techniques have made possible the functional analysis of germline stem cells (GS cells). The GS cells are downstream of the stem cells such as ES cells and embryonic germ cells (EG cells), which are derived from primordial germ cells (PGCs). Therefore, GS cells are expected to be useful in the production of genetically modified animals. In this study, we examined the enrichment and cultivation of mouse GS cells by magnetic cell sorting (MACS). Testicular cell suspensions were collected from C57BL/6J cryptorchid adult testes at 2 to 3 months after surgery and ICR pup (6 to 8 dpp) testes. They were digested by 0.1% collagenase followed by 0.25% trypsin with gentle shaking. Dissociated cell suspensions were filtrated through a glass-wool column followed by a Falcon cell strainer (40-m mesh). They were then treated with biotin-conjugated anti-mouse CD9 antibody, whose antigen, CD9, is localized on the GS cell surface, followed by the streptavidin-microbeads treatment. The cell suspension was passed through a MACS-separation column. In Experiment I, MACS-treated fractions were analyzed by flow cytometry (FCM) on the rates of recovery and enrichment and their cellular characteristics. In Experiment II, CD9-positive (CD9+) cells were cultured on gelatin-coated MultiDish (176740, Nunc) with 4-5 105 cells/well in StemPro34-SFM supplemented with 1% fetal bovine serum, leukemia inhibitory factor, GDNF, bFGF, EGF, insulin, transferrin, putrescine, MEM vitamin solution, MEM-NEAA and some other reagents at 32C or 37C under 5% CO2 in air. They were examined for their proliferation and cytological changes such as CD9, 6-integrin and Oct-1 expression by immunohistochemistry. In Experiment I, MACS selection effectively enriched CD9+ cells from mouse testes. However, FCM analysis revealed that the CD9-negative (CD9-) cells partially remained in MACS-selected fraction from cryptorchid adult testes. In contrast, the CD9+ subpopulation could be successfully separated from CD9- subpopulation from pup testes. Therefore CD9+ subpopulation from pup testes was used for the following cultivation. In Experiment II, the cells proliferated in the first few days in suspension. Then they attached to the dish and formed colonies after 5 days or 3 days of culture at 32C or 37C, respectively. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the cells maintained the expression of CD9 for at least 14 days, but their expression of 6-integrin gradually diminished. It was demonstrated by immunohistochemistry and FCM analysis that the cells in colonies expressed Oct-1, and its expression level was stronger in culture at 37C than at 32C. These findings indicate that the CD9+ cells collected from mouse pup testes have stem cell properties. Abstract:
The focus of software engineering has traditionally been oriented toward new software construction inspite of the fact that very substantial costs arise in the maintenance phase of the software lifecycle. A key element in the maintenance phase is "program understanding" because the individuals assigned this task are typically distinct from those on the development team. Tools to assist with program understanding have, nevertheless, received only modest attention in recent years. In this thesis the topic is explored within the context of the development of a particular program understanding tool called PUMP. PUMP (Program Understanding Tool for MODSIM Programs) is a tool developed to help understand simulation models written in the object-oriented simulation language called MODSIM programs. It has a simple graphical user interface (GUI) and may be used for both system exploration and for browsing purposes as part of a professional software development tool. It quickly displays and provides views of complex inheritance trees, making it an important tool for understanding object-oriented systems.

Abstract:
This work applies to an electronic solution for administration of the company's library. On the basis of an analysis of the current access and its defects a list of qualitative and functional requests for application, which is consequently drafted and implemented, has been compiled. The final system has a form of web application, which is available to its users through Internet browser from an arbitrary device connected to the company's computer net (eventually Internet), including mobile phones etc. Thanks to the fact that the program is based exclusively on open-source technologies, there are no license fees of third parties connected with its setting or operation. The application foremost enables its users (mostly employees of a company) to accede the online book catalogue, search it using different criteria, acquire information about available books and make reservations of the required books to be lent. Librarians within the system administrate especially a book catalogue and reservations and borrows of the books. The program strongly diversifies with its functionality from solution for classic public libraries -- it is possible to register and administrate there the private books of employees, information about current borrow of the given book are available to all users, it is allowed to the employees to dispose the borrows between themselves, users are able to insert commentaries to the books etc. As a part of this work there is a source code of the application and users' manual containing except for description of functions the preview of screens of the system as well.

Abstract:
The Field Study Report records the establishment of a theoretical model for examining aspects of complex innovations, the application of that model to the Commonwealth Participation and Equity Program in the ACT government sector using an historical perspective, and the drawing of conclusions occasioned by that, application. Based on the literature of the management of change, educational administration and educational politics as well as the history of the program, it is argued that specific groups of factors influencing the delivery and impact of the program may be identified and their effects described, with a view to guiding future delivery of major educational reform programs. The theoretical model for classifying and examining the relative importance of the factors is a synthesis based on the work of the researchers Hoy and Miskel (1982), with a major additional component, prompted by writers in the field of educational politics. The method of application also allows the discussion of two further underlying propositions. These are; (a) That the modes of delivery employed by the ACT Schools Authority for PEP evolved during the course of its implementation; (b) That the program had a discernible impact, in terms of its aims, but this impact, was modified qualitatively and quantitatively by the process of mutual adaptation and by other factors external and internal to the program. In a series of linked steps, the thesis examines the literature, drawing out a grouped collection of factors potentially influencing the program, describes the context, modes of delivery, aims and outcomes of PEP, categorises the identified factors according to their apparent relative influence, and uses these learnings to make predictions and conclusions about PEP and future system-wide reform initiatives. It is concluded that the underlying propositions of the thesis are confirmed. It is also argued that the study has highlighted the predominant influence of political factors, most groups of management factors and factors related to school organisation, whereas other factors are of lesser importance in moulding program delivery strategies and shaping program outcomes. As well, the thesis concludes that the particular framework adopted for the study possesses considerable potential for use in a variety of future research, and that the introduction of the factor-based structure as a means of carrying out historical research helps promote rigour, objectivity and credibility where there is a reliance on the involvement of a participant-observer to provide reflective data. In relation to PEP itself, it is concluded that the process of mutual adaptation and the influence of the multiplicity of factors ensured that the higher-order program outcomes such as institutionalisation of new curriculum definitions, the development of negotiated student, management and teaching/learning strategies and attitudinal changes about, the purposes and ownership of education, were modified even more significantly than the outcomes which could be measured in quantitative terms. A collection of specific suggestions for improved program delivery in the future is provided.

With the advance of technology new solutions have been proposed to support health professionals to assist their patients. However, many institutions do not make patient's health records available. Nursing evolution and prescription along with other types of nursing information represent 50% of all patient's data. Because of the dynamicity required by nursing tasks, the simultaneous access to this kind of information in any physical location in the institution is another problem that should be handled. Based on such issues, it was proposed a framework responsible for centralizing, organizing, and standardizing the gathering and searching for nursing evolution and prescription information. Moreover, this framework also intends to make this information available to mobile devices. It was developed a prototype to a health institution to demonstrate the viability, and questionnaires were applied to professionals onsite who assessed aspects related to usability and motivation. Due to the use of mobile devices, health professionals could access, respecting security issues, any patient's information any time and at any place simultaneously. The framework had promissory results and was characterized as very interesting and efficient with 31.43 and 32.86 scores respectively, in a 0 to 36 scale. The satisfaction index related to the usability aspect was 88.57% and 85.71% related to how information was presented. The overall satisfaction grade was 91.84%.

Abstract:
A utilização do programa Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) no tratamento dos dados recolhidos, possibilitou a realização de várias análises estatísticas. The events sector grew up essentially since the 90´s and followed directly the changes and the new paradigms of the tourism industry. (Bowdin, McDonnell, Allen, Harris & O´ Tool, 2003). Facing now an independent and active consumer, which is constantly looking for authentic and original new experiences that can exceed their expectations, events are now more than ever the main factor that distinguishes destinations. Currently, events not only contribute to attract new tourists, but also to show their loyalty to the destination. Strategic management of destinations, along with event tourism and the new consumers constitute the main topics of the literature review of this research. The Algarve region and the “Allgarve” Program were selected at an empirical level. Using the data from a survey conducted on an audience that attended “street artist events” and Pop music concerts in the “Allgarve´11”, questions like loyalty, satisfaction, motivation and perception about the Event´s Program, are the main subjects analyzed. It was also possible to make a description of this audience, as well as their recommendations, suggestions and preferences regarding the “Allgarve” Program. The application of the software “Statistical Package for the Social Sciences” (SPSS) in the analysis of the collected data, allowed the development of several statistical analyses. From the descriptive analyzes of the collected data, it was concluded that despite a low rate of participations in previous editions, satisfaction levels were higher in relation to the lived experience. We also concluded that the audience built a positive image about the Program, recognizing its prestige, attractiveness and capacity, contributing to the growth of Algarve´s cultural offer. The application of Nonlinear Canonical Correlation Analysis (OVERALS) and of the K-Means method, supported the relation between satisfaction and intention to recommend the experience to others, since all of the 191 satisfied interviewees revealed the intention to recommend “Allgarve” Events to family and friends, as well as 111 of them intend to return and participate again. Despite of its flaws, positive conclusions were reached, and after its five editions, the program could finally have been linked to the region’s image, distinguishing it in a whole range of cultural events and entertainment.

Xie, Jueren. "Effect of Specimen Length on Structural and Sealability Evaluation of Tubular Connections in HPHT and Thermal Wells." In SPE Thermal Integrity and Design Symposium. SPE, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.2118/203857-ms.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Premium connection designs are typically evaluated and qualified to broadly adopted industry standards, such as ISO 13679 (2019) and API RP 5C5 (2017) procedures for testing casing and tubing connection in High Pressure and High Temperature (HPHT) wells up to temperatures of 180°C, and ISO/PAS 12835 (2013) for testing casing connection in thermal wells that experience temperatures from 180°C to 350°C. The primary focus of these qualification protocols is to evaluate the sealing capacity and structural integrity of the candidate connection design under loads representative of the conditions that the connection will experience through the well's life cycle. The test specimens consist of the coupling and the pipe segments on both sides of the coupling. While it may be desirable to evaluate test specimens with lengths equal to that of the field product to capture the temperature, pressure and mechanical loads on the specimen, it is advantageous to limit the length for purposes including handling and controlling the size and cost of the evaluation program. It has been observed that the test results can be affected by the specimen length, so the proper selection of specimen length is a key aspect of these evaluation programs. Current test protocols provide the requirement of a minimum unsupported length for allowing the tests to simulate the strain localization condition. On the other hand, if the unsupported length exceeds a critical value, the test specimens may experience lateral buckling, and preventing buckling adds complexity and cost to the test program. No guidelines have been given in the protocols on the maximum pup length requirement for preventing lateral buckling. Therefore, a better understanding of the impact of specimen length is warranted in order to achieve more reliable and accurate results from the testing program. This paper presents an investigation of the effect of specimen length on the structural integrity and sealability of premium connections based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Parametric FEA was completed to determine the impact of specimen length for several sizes of a generic premium connection design under API RP 5C5 (2017) HPHT well and ISO/PAS 12835 (2013) thermal well conditions. Based on the analysis results, recommendations are made to improve and enhance the guidelines for identifying a suitable specimen length for the test component of an evaluation program.

Abstract:
To prepare for implementation of ASME OM Code [1] Mandatory Appendix III (Appendix III) for inservice testing of motor-operated valves (MOVs), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) performed a comprehensive assessment at all three of their nuclear sites to identify gaps between their legacy IST and MOV programs and an IST program that meets the requirements of Appendix III. This assessment reviewed each paragraph of Appendix III and T VA governing documents to determine how the requirements are already being met or are missing in the legacy MOV program(s). Secondly, the assessment performed a high level overview of TVA’s MOV programs in response to NRC Generic Letters 89-10 [6] and 96-05 [7] and identifies areas for improvement for TVA consideration. This paper presents the assessment purpose and objectives, scope, approach and methods, references, summary of significant gaps, and proposed actions to resolve these gaps prior to Appendix III implementation. Abstract:
Members of ISTB and ISTA have developed a list of issues regarding ISTB Pump Implementation that have been identified during IST Program Reviews, Day to Day operation of IST Programs, and site assessments of IST Programs (including issues found during updates). Implementation of the ISTB requirements for pumps in commercial US plants has presented challenges over the last few years with all the changes in ISTB since the issuance of the 1995 Edition of the ASME OM Code through the 2006 Addenda. This paper will discuss issues related to IST implementation. Good practices will be discussed to help IST engineers improve their programs. Some projected issues with implementation of 2012 Edition Appendix V will also be discussed. Paper published with permission.
