Abstract:
The rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, particularly generative AI and large language models, have unlocked new possibilities for revolutionizing healthcare delivery. However, harnessing the full potential of these technologies requires effective prompt engineering—designing and optimizing input prompts to guide AI systems toward generating clinically relevant and accurate outputs. Despite the importance of prompt engineering, medical education has yet to fully incorporate comprehensive training on this critical skill, leading to a knowledge gap among medical clinicians. This article addresses this educational gap by providing an overview of generative AI prompt engineering, its potential applications in primary care medicine, and best practices for its effective implementation. The role of well-crafted prompts in eliciting accurate, relevant, and valuable responses from AI models is discussed, emphasizing the need for prompts grounded in medical knowledge and aligned with evidence-based guidelines. The article explores various applications of prompt engineering in primary care, including enhancing patient–provider communication, streamlining clinical documentation, supporting medical education, and facilitating personalized care and shared decision-making. Incorporating domain-specific knowledge, engaging in iterative refinement and validation of prompts, and addressing ethical considerations and potential biases are highlighted. Embracing prompt engineering as a core competency in medical education will be crucial for successfully adopting and implementing AI technologies in primary care, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes and enhanced healthcare delivery.

Abstract:
This feasibility study explored the contextual factors influencing office workers’ adherence to an e-health intervention targeting total and prolonged sedentary time over 12 weeks. A three-arm quasi-randomized intervention included prompts at 30 or 60 min intervals delivered via a smartphone application, and a no-prompt comparison arm. Fifty-six office workers completed baseline (64% female) and 44 completed the 12 week follow-up (80% retention). Ecological momentary assessments (EMA) captured contextual data, with 82.8 ± 24.9 EMA prompt questionnaires completed weekly. Two focus groups with n = 8 Prompt 30 and 60 participants were conducted one-month post-intervention to address intervention acceptability and feasibility. Contextual findings indicate that when working on a sedentary task (i.e., reading or screen-based work) and located at an individual workstation, hourly prompts may be more acceptable and feasible for promoting a reduction in total and prolonged sedentary time compared to 30 min prompts. Interpersonal support also appears important for promoting subtle shifts in sedentary working practices. This novel study gives a real-time insight into the factors influencing adherence to e-health prompts. Findings identified unique, pragmatic considerations for delivering a workplace e-health intervention, indicating that further research is warranted to optimize the method of intervention delivery prior to evaluation of a large-scale intervention.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Prompt notification of critical laboratory values to providers is essential for effective patient care. To improve the delivery of these critical values, a quality improvement project was initiated to determine the obstacles to prompt notification and to identify possible interventions to improve this process. Methods Critical value call logs were retrieved, and delivery time, patient location, test name, and call time were abstracted and analyzed. All critical values with delivery times greater than 60 min were reviewed by 2 authors for 1 representative month in both the pre- and postintervention period. Results Based on the results of the data review, a modification to the laboratory information system call center color-coded alerts was introduced to address delays attributable to the laboratory. The overall rate of calls greater than 60 min decreased from 3.4% ± 0.8% in the preintervention study period to 1.3 ± 0.3%, postintervention. The average number of values not delivered within 60 min decreased by 64% across all locations, following with an 82% decrease for values originating from inpatient locations, and a 39% decrease for outpatient values. Conclusions Low complexity interventions to critical value callback protocols can significantly increase the efficacy of communication between the laboratory and providers.

Abstract:
A 35-year-old oriental woman, who was 32 weeks pregnant, was hospitalized with suspected preeclampsia. Subsequently, she developed stupor and lethargia. Biochemical assessment showed severe hypercalcemia (21 mg/dl) with undetectable parathyroid hormone (PTH) and markedly elevated PTH-related peptide (PTHrP) levels (26 pmol/l, normal values <1.1 pmol/l). The patient was treated with i.v. fluid administration, which resulted in an unsatisfactory reduction in serum calcium. Therefore, a cesarean section was performed to deliver the baby. Serum calcium levels promptly normalized after delivery with undetectable PTHrP levels. She delivered a healthy infant only presenting with transient mild jaundice and slightly prolonged QT interval with serum calcium level of 7.8–8.4 mg/dl (corrected for albumin levels). In the subsequent days, the patient developed a transient ‘hungry bone’ syndrome (calcium 6.7 mg/dl, phosphorous 2.1 mg/dl, and PTH 100.4 pg/ml). In conclusion, this pregnant patient presented with PTHrP-associated hypercalcemia, presumably of placental origin. Delivery resulted in prompt reduction of serum calcium levels and a transient ‘hungry bone’ syndrome.

Abstract:
Choice has been demonstrated to have positive effects on behavior like increasing task engagement, positive affect, and accuracy in the completion of tasks. However, the effects of choice have been primarily observed with individuals receiving behavior analytic interventions. It is unknown whether the choice of intervention modality would have similar positive effects on the implementer. Social scripts are a social skill intervention that provides a model of appropriate language through the presentation of antecedent stimuli that increase the likelihood of desired behavior in learners. Social script can be delivered in two different modalities, auditory and textual, which facilitate the choice for instructors for this study. The purpose of the study was to (a) evaluate the effects of multiple available intervention modalities on the frequency of implementation, (b) assess instructor preference of two social skill interventions, and (c) to determine the feasibility of those interventions. The results of this study indicate the multiple choices of modalities did not affect the frequency of implementation but did have an effect on instructor preference. Two instructors in this study showed a mixed preference until the choice was available and their preference switched to auditory scripts. Overall, teachers in this study rated the social script intervention highly. There was a 9.2% increase in acceptability from pre- to post-test.

Heckmann, Benjamin. "Service quality and profit control in utility computing service life cycles." Thesis, University of Plymouth, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10026.1/1568.

Full text
Abstract:
Utility Computing is one of the most discussed business models in the context of Cloud Computing. Service providers are more and more pushed into the role of utilities by their customer's expectations. Subsequently, the demand for predictable service availability and pay-per-use pricing models increases. Furthermore, for providers, a new opportunity to optimise resource usage offers arises, resulting from new virtualisation techniques. In this context, the control of service quality and profit depends on a deep understanding of the representation of the relationship between business and technique. This research analyses the relationship between the business model of Utility Computing and Service-oriented Computing architectures hosted in Cloud environments. The relations are clarified in detail for the entire service life cycle and throughout all architectural layers. Based on the elaborated relations, an approach to a delivery framework is evolved, in order to enable the optimisation of the relation attributes, while the service implementation passes through business planning, development, and operations. Related work from academic literature does not cover the collected requirements on service offers in this context. This finding is revealed by a critical review of approaches in the fields of Cloud Computing, Grid Computing, and Application Clusters. The related work is analysed regarding appropriate provision architectures and quality assurance approaches. The main concepts of the delivery framework are evaluated based on a simulation model. To demonstrate the ability of the framework to model complex pay-per-use service cascades in Cloud environments, several experiments have been conducted. First outcomes proof that the contributions of this research undoubtedly enable the optimisation of service quality and profit in Cloud-based Service-oriented Computing architectures.

Abstract:
<p> Despite the rapid growth of online learning and student enrollment at for-profit colleges, previous research has found that employers are wary of job applicants with credentials earned from these sources. This study compared the attitudes of health care recruiters toward four different RN-to-BSN degree options based on the method of instruction (classroom, online) and the type of college (traditional, for-profit). A sample of 116 health care recruiters from across the United States completed an online survey. The study revealed that there were significant differences in the perceived advantage in the hiring process, credibility, concerns about credentials and likelihood to recommend hiring. Applicants with RN-to-BSN degrees from traditional colleges and via classroom instruction were clearly most favored and those with degrees earned through online instruction at for-profit colleges were perceived the least favorably. An online degree from a traditional college was determined to be more acceptable than an online degree from a for-profit college but still less acceptable than a degree earned through classroom instruction at a traditional college. The implication of these findings is that the return on education for students earning college degrees online or from for-profit colleges may be inhibited by employer perceptions regarding the quality of credentials earned in these environments.</p>

Wagner, Andre. "The impact of an organisational capacity assessment on non-profit organisations in South Africa." University of the Western Cape, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/11394/7706.

Full text
Abstract:
Magister Economicae - MEcon<br>The research study investigated the potential impact that organisational capacity assessments can have on the long-term sustainability of non-profit organisations (NPOs). The researcher employed longitudinal research design as the main instrument in the collection of data. Data was collected from four local non-profit organisations in the Cullinan and Bronkhorstspruit areas of South Africa. These organisations were evaluated by means of a questionnaire, which was developed by the researcher. NPOs can only play a pivotal role in community and social services if management, leadership, governance and other elements of organisational capacity are well developed and continuously strengthened. This is critical for attracting local and international donors who provide crucial running costs and relieve national, provincial and local government departments of the financial burden. Currently, the South African government supports NPOs in South Africa. The legislative and registration aspects of NPOs are regulated by the NPO Act (Act 71 of 1997) and the Income Tax Act (Act 58 of 1962). The State of South African Registered NPOs Report 2010/2011 indicated a growth of the number of registrations to have increased by 8.3%. However, in the same financial year a total number of 468 NPOs were deregistered; 98% of these lost their registration due to non-compliance of regulatory requirements. According to the State of South African Registered NPOs Report (2016) the total number of applications received for the financial year was 16 726 (53.7%), however 4 421 (46%) did not meet the requirements of sections 12-13 of the NPO Act, an issue that would definitely affect the existence of non-compliant institutions.

Mason, Jennifer Patricia. "Agency, Stewardship And The Authorising Environment: Public Sector Contracting With The Not-For-Profit Sector To Deliver Out-Of-Home Care In Australia." Thesis, The University of Sydney, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/2123/16843.

Full text
Abstract:
Publicly funded human services in Australia are increasingly outsourced under contract to the not-for-profit (NFP) sector. This thesis considers the outsourcing of out-of-home care (OOHC) for neglected and abused children in Australia over the last three decades. The outsourcing has been accompanied by intense debate over the most appropriate ways to provide funding to the NFP sector and to ensure the safety of the children who are brought into care. The central objective of the thesis is to examine whether contracting with NFPs for the provision of OOHC is characterised by trust and collaboration, consistent with a ‘stewardship’ contracting approach, or by low levels of trust and high levels of control, consistent with a ‘principal-agent’ approach (hereafter, ‘agency’ approach). A particular focus is the role of the ‘authorising environment’, the institutions and individuals who oversee public managers in the shaping of contracts. A qualitative research design is used to pursue the research objective, using 53 ‘elite-level’, semi-structured interviews with ministers, heads of external accountability bodies and senior managers in the public and NFP sectors. The interviews are complemented by analysis of a large volume of reports from relevant public inquiries undertaken over the last three decades. The principal finding of the thesis is that the authorising environment imposes multiple, overlapping levels of scrutiny upon contract design and administration, and that this environment impels public managers to perpetuate a contracting approach which prioritises risk management, low levels of trust, and high levels of control. For OOHC, the authorising environment has been characterised mainly by instability, generating frequent policy changes and numerous reports from parliamentary committees, standing integrity agencies and public inquiries. Within this environment, the creation of stewardship contracting based upon collaboration and trust is all but impossible to achieve, and agency approaches thus continue to predominate. The findings of the thesis are important for scholarship and for contractual practice. The current body of stewardship literature is limited in that little attention has been paid to the impact of external accountability mechanisms such as public inquiries and integrity agencies in shaping the authorising environment for public sector contracting. The thesis assists in taking a systematic approach to the impact of different elements of the authorising environment. The data on which the thesis is based shows that public and NFP managers working in OOHC are highly conscious of the potential value of collaborative approaches, particularly those aimed at increasing client participation and client well-being. However, in a highly politicised sector such as OOHC, the implication is that any client-centred mechanisms must be consciously designed, written-in, pursued and protected if trust-based contracting is to dominate over agency approaches.

Thesis, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2001. http://hdl.handle.net/1721.1/69763.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (M.C.P.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Urban Studies and Planning, 2001.<br>Includes bibliographical references (leaves 87-89).<br>The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) took effect on July 1, 2000, replacing the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) and becoming the most recent in a series of public interventions in the area of employment and training in the United States. WIA made many significant changes to the way publicly-financed job training services are funded, targeted, and accessed. It prioritized job placement over training and shifted from targeting low-income populations to universal access to services. Most significantly, WIA replaced contracts to training vendors with a customer-held voucher system administered through "One-Stop Career Centers," which act as the center of all local employment and training activity. These changes caused significant concern for non-profit job training providers who worried about the effect of this new legislation on their organizations, their job training programs, and their clients. From the perspective of non-profit job training providers in Boston, this thesis attempts to explain the initial concerns related to WIA and to analyze whether these predictions are playing out in practice now that the first year of implementation is well underway. This analysis is based on a survey of non-profit job training providers in Greater Boston conducted in August 2000 and in-depth follow-up interviews in March and April 2001 with five of the survey respondents who previously received JTPA funding and now receive WIA funding. Additionally, this research is based on reports, articles, and books written on U.S. employment and training legislation, the Workforce Investment Act, and vouchers in a variety of social service arenas. This thesis demonstrates that non-profit job training providers initially worried about program financing, cash flow, program planning, coordination with career centers, competition, marketing, and exclusion of the most disadvantaged clients. The interviews illustrate that most of these initial concerns have continued to challenge non-profit providers well into the first year of WIA implementation. Certain characteristics, however, have assisted some providers in overcoming these challenges more easily than others. Career center partners, large organizations with a commitment to workforce development, providers with a wide diversity of funding sources, and programs serving a particular niche of the labor force, all appear to have advantages in the new training system.<br>by Michelle M. Abstract:
This qualitative study examines the challenges that community health workers or Promotores face when implementing their programs to produce better outcomes in the Latino community. Data collection was derived from five local promotores with an adequate knowledge base of expertise in promotores programs. Study themes focused on how promotores implement their programs, the challenges they face and providing professional and personal insight on working with the Latino community. Present day research emphasizes that promotores or the community health worker model approaches have been promoted as a strategy to address health disparities experienced by Latino communities in the U.S. These programs have been implemented in an effort to improve the health of Latino families and bring awareness to public health issues. However, not much is known about the challenges that they face when implementing these interventions. Study results indicated five emerging themes pertaining to the challenges that promotores face when implementing their programs and include: mental health stigma, recruitment, funding barriers, and lack of evaluation. Finally, suggestions for further research on promotores and the Latino community are discussed.

Abstract:
When we look at all the challenges facing the world, including inequality, population migration, and climate change, we can see a role for development banking in nearly all of them. But will that role be played for good or ill? This book brings together two people who collectively draw on their forty-five years of experience in that world to argue that development banking can-and must-play a constructive role. We only need to read the news to find public outrage at tales of short-sighted greed in the financial world. But what happens when banks invest in long-term sustainability? Readers will find a fascinating example in the journey of the Dutch development bank FMO. At times global in perspective, at other moments intimately personal, Banking for a Better World interweaves candid anecdotes with development history, as well as banking lessons with client interviews, to deliver a powerful argument for a business model that generates profit through impact, and impact through profit. This is an important and accessible must-read for anyone involved in banking, business, policy making, and civil society as a whole. Banking for a Better World challenges us to start finding overlaps between our own lives and global issues and to bridge the distance between our personal needs and those of our planet.

Abstract:
Major obstetric haemorrhage affects around 0.4% of pregnant women, accounts for around 50% of intensive care unit admissions amongst pregnant women, and is a significant cause of maternal death. Optimal obstetric and anaesthetic management plays an important role in reducing mortality. Such management includes antenatal optimization (ensuring that pre-delivery haemoglobin is normal, and identifying risk factors such as placenta praevia), prompt recognition of bleeding and senior involvement, and debriefing for staff and patients after the event. This chapter focuses on the causes of, and treatments for, antenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum haemorrhage. Resuscitation and therapeutic (pharmacological and surgical) strategies are described and the use of blood products and cell salvage discussed from the point of view of both the anaesthetist and the obstetrician. Lastly, current controversies, including the use of recombinant factor VII and tranexamic acid are mentioned.

Abstract:
AbstractWaiting is a waste in business processes, adversely affecting performance metrics such as cycle time or on-time delivery. Process mining techniques allow business users to analyze waiting times and their causes based on data extracted from enterprise systems. However, process mining techniques, per se, do not assist users in identifying redesign options to optimize business processes, e.g. to reduce waiting time. Recent studies suggest that Large Language Models (LLMs) may aid business users in various process analysis tasks, particularly in conjunction with process mining techniques. This paper studies how to use LLMs to assist business users in analyzing and redesigning business processes to optimize waiting time. The study compares two methods to prompt an LLM to recommend redesign options to reduce waiting times: (1) a baseline (“zero-shot”) method involving a minimalistic prompt; and (2) an enhanced method where the prompt includes descriptions of redesign patterns that may lead to redesigned processes with lower waiting times. To compare these methods, we conduct a user evaluation that combines semi-structured interviews with a survey involving process analysts. The analysts compare the recommended redesigns in terms of desirable properties of recommendation systems, such as relevance, usefulness, and diversity of the recommended redesigns. The results suggest that the enhanced prompting method yields more relevant and actionable redesign options. In contrast, the baseline produces high-level recommendations more suited for managerial decision-making.

Abstract:
AbstractThe outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has engendered a crisis of mobility whose multiple dimensions have affected the movement of people and “stuff,” border regimes and logistical supply chains, the daily life of people in many parts of the world and the organization of labor. In such a conjuncture, digital platforms have emerged as key devices to manage the crisis, in such diverse fields as communication, food delivery, and e-commerce. The booming profits and stock exchange value of companies operating in such fields have been defining features of the economic implications of the pandemic conjuncture, while platforms have become increasingly visible in public discourse. Accordingly, digital platforms have come to figure prominently among those “systems underpinning social and economic life” whose maintenance and reproduction played a key role in defining “essential labor” during lockdowns in different parts of the world. The connection between platforms and mobility management has been apparent in the pandemic conjuncture, while new forms of risk and new hierarchies emerged between people who were often compelled to risk contagion to provide services and people who were allowed to work from home and could do that also due to those services. Working at the intersection between the domains of circulation and social reproduction, the operations of platforms prompt significant mutations of capital and labor, which deserve a detailed investigation. At the same time the chapter follows the call to “de-Westernize platform studies” and connects processes of platformization of capital and labor with the turbulent emergence of a multipolar world (with a specific attention paid to China).

Abstract Selling Up and not Selling Out is all about being selective regarding how you conduct your painting contractor business. You can charge more and thus generate higher profits for each job by following a sound business formula. Careful consideration and decisions must be made on how you want your business positioned (your branding); which customers you want to target; which products and services you will use; and which market conditions are most relevant to your business. Extra profit results when you effectively communicate your business’ mission to your employees and deliver that promise to your customers.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the main problems associated with the import of fuel and energy resources to the Arctic regions of Yakutia. The article considers existing multi-link schemes of fuel delivery to the final consumer, the main disadvantages of which are significant transportation time and a large share of logistics costs as well as environmental impact on northern rivers (Lena, Kolyma, Indigirka). High transport costs are shown to increase cost per ton of fuel and energy resources by 3-5 times. The paper shows that the development of local coal resources located in close proximity to consumers is one of the directions to increase the energy security, improve environmental conditions for coal delivery of the Arctic regions of the Yakutia and reduce the regional budget expenditures. Deposits of fuel and energy resources in remote transport isolated Arctic regions of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) have a social orientation, not a commercial one. However, profit earning should not necessarily be the main goal for companies already performing mining or planning to mine in the Arctic zone. Feasibility and needs for companies oriented rather to welfare, than commercial interests is predetermined by increased energy requirements for safety, creation of new jobs etc. Such deposits should be approached from a social perspective rather than from an investment perspective. The article introduces the concept of ultra-small coal company for the Arctic regions, which takes into account the specifics of inaccessibility, transport remoteness with severe climatic and physical and geographical conditions, increasing the energy and ecology security of the population.

Abstract:
The Danube has been a traditional trade route in Europe since ancient times. Transport on the Danube has many economic and environmental advantages. By using the river as a transport route, logistics costs can be reduced, and delivery times optimized. Another feature of the Danube is its connection to the North Sea and maritime transport via the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal. In addition, waterborne transport produces less carbon dioxide than road or rail transport, helping to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable development. The study of the wind climate of the Danube is particularly important for transport and navigation on this waterway, allowing ship operators to use this information to optimize their routes and plan their voyages with maximum efficiency and safety for both cargo and crew. A statistical analysis of vessel traffic for the period 1990 - 2020 was carried out and cargo types and vessel types were characterized. Also, cargo quantities and vessel capacity were analyzed in terms of both imports and exports. Thus, this paper presents a study of the river from an economic, statistical, and climatic point of view.

Abstract:
Online Interactive Activities (OIA) are an increasingly popular educational learning experience. OIA allows for flexible delivery with the activities used synchronously during class, or asynchronously outside of class at a time convenient for the learner, and they prompt active participation and engagement. As a result, many learning environments are implementing design and development projects to incorporate OIA. However, incorporating new tools and approaches in educational systems can be complex. In this paper we discuss the processes that Victoria University employed to develop and implement OIA, in order to facilitate efficient blended delivery on a large scale. We discuss reasons why the tool H5P was chosen for the development of OIA; outline the projects and processes used to oversee and implement OIA roll-out; present the support mechanisms and professional development provided to enable the design, development, and incorporation of OIA; and lastly provide novel case examples to inspire future use.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of product innovation, process innovation and delivery innovation on firm performance, in response to unexpected crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, the author conducted a survey with 115 Albanian companies. By employing the regression analysis, the study uncovered that product innovation has a positive significant impact on firm performance in the aftermath of COVID-19. The study also uncovers a positive yet non-significant relationship between process innovation and firm performance. Contrary to expectations, the research identifies a counterintuitive outcome in the context of delivery innovation, indicating a negative and statistically significant impact on firm performance. This research contributes to our understanding of the complex interplay between innovation and firm performance, offering valuable insights for businesses navigating the challenges of the post-pandemic landscape. The findings prompt a reevaluation of strategic approaches to innovation and underscore the need for nuanced and context-specific strategies to optimize firm outcomes.

Abstract:
Abstract This technical paper details the delivery of the first successful geothermal well in a region predominantly known for its oil and gas reserves. The geothermal project presented significant challenges due to the area's complex geology, high-temperature gradients, and the nascent nature of geothermal energy development in this locale. However, the benefits of such a project were substantial, promising a sustainable and renewable energy source that could diversify the region's energy mix and reduce its carbon footprint. The scope of the project included extensive planning, advanced drilling techniques, and stringent safety and quality controls to ensure the well's successful completion. The project faced numerous technical challenges, particularly in managing the temperature profile, drilling dynamics, and geo-stopping well total depth. Methods employed included using advanced temperature modeling for static and dynamic gradients. Bottom-hole assemblies configured to be compatible with optimum selected drill bits for thriving through the harsh drilling dynamics. Real-time monitoring systems implemented to track drilling parameters and adjust operations dynamically. Look-ahead-while-drilling-service for geo-stopping above problematic salt formation prompt to hole instability and stuck pipe. These procedures were supported by extensive pre-drill geological surveys and simulations for proactive hazard management and avoidance. A multi-disciplinary team of drilling engineering, reservoir management and characterization, and operations worked collaboratively to address these challenges and ensure the smooth progression of the drilling process. The project was completed successfully, achieving all predefined objectives without any service quality issues or safety incidents. The well was drilled to the target depth and tested, confirming the presence of a viable geothermal reservoir. Safety protocols and continuous monitoring ensured that no incidents occurred, maintaining the highest standards of operational safety and environmental protection. The successful delivery of the well demonstrated the feasibility of geothermal energy development in this region and highlighted its potential to become a significant player in the renewable energy sector. This project set a benchmark for future geothermal projects in the area, providing valuable insights and best practices for managing the unique challenges associated with high temperature. The knowledge and experience gained in this venture will foster further innovation in geothermal technology, paving the way for a more sustainable energy future both locally and globally.

Abstract:
The objective of this paper is to review the most relevant, recent and rigorous literature on strategies to promote changes in demand for maternal and neonatal health services in rural areas of Latin America and to identify the strategies with most impact and lowest cost. The evidence shows that: i) covering direct expenses increases the use of prenatal care and institutional delivery and appears to be costeffective; ii) community interventions have positive impacts on indicators related to social norms (contraceptive use and institutional delivery); iii) monetary incentives have moderate impacts on use of prenatal care but lead to very few changes in institutional delivery or contraceptive use, while non-monetary incentives do increase institutional delivery at a much lower cost; iv) sending reminders to women could increase the use of prenatal and postpartum visits in a cost-effective way; and v) postpartum and puerperium visits need to be promoted.

Abstract:
Commissioned by the Latrobe Valley Authority (LVA), Swinburne University produced ‘Modelling Gippsland’s Future Health and Community Service Workforce: Summary Report’ in 2019 . This analysis of the healthcare and social assistance sector workforce was part of the development of a smart specialisation strategy to promote economic and social development of the Gippsland region in Victoria. The analysis provided an understanding of the effect of the growth of the sector on the local labour market, identified key trends and provided a framework for action to 2036. CERG was commissioned by the LVA to deliver the Health Innovation Project (the project) that focussed on using the smart specialisation approach to address health delivery, access and service uses across the health sector. One of the key findings from this report is that the approach helped to generate solutions for complex health needs resulting in tangible evidence-based outcomes. The co-designed business case that resulted from the project outlined one strategy to address the inequalities in health and digital literacy in Gippsland.

Abstract:
Today, there is a general consensus about the fact that a high level of learning is important for economic growth. However, students in Latin America and the Caribbean have lower scores on standardized learning tests compared to other countries at similar stages of economic development, and much lower than that of the best performing countries. So how does the use of technology in education can help increase student learning? New technologies open opportunities to increase student learning and have the potential to reduce gaps between socioeconomic groups. Governments in the region, aware of the opportunities and challenges of technology, have made significant investments in increasing student access to computers and the internet mainly through delivery models like one to one. Between 2006 and 2012, 20 of the 26 IDB member borrowers have promoted such initiatives and have distributed nearly 10 million laptops in public schools throughout the region. However, evidence suggests that infrastructure and technology are necessary but not sufficient conditions and should be geared specifically towards improving learning. The key question is: how can we design and implement effective technology to improve children learning? The objective of this technical note is to describe the principles that will guide the operational and analytical work of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in the area of technology in education to promote effective programs that will enhance the skills of students in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Abstract:
In recent years, innovative mobility and shifts in travel and consumption behavior are changing how people access and use the curb. Shared mobility—the shared use of a vehicle, bicycle, scooter, or other mode—coupled with outdoor dining, curbside pick-up, and robotic delivery are creating new needs related to the planning, management, and enforcement of curb access. This study examines curb planning and management from several angles, such as safety, social equity, and multimodal connections. This research employs a multi-method approach to identify the changing needs for curb space management and how to meet these needs through new planning and implementation policies and strategies. As part of this study, the authors conducted 23 interviews. Respondents were chosen to represent public, private, and non-profit sector perspectives. Additionally, the authors employed a survey of 1,033 curb users and 241 taxi, transportation network company (TNC), and public transportation drivers. The study finds that changes in mode choice and curbside use can result in a variety of impacts on access, social equity, congestion, device management, pick-up and drop-off, and goods delivery, to name a few. The curb also has the potential to be disrupted by emerging modes, such as robotic delivery vehicles (also known as personal delivery devices) and automated vehicles. As these emerging developments continue to impact the curb, it is becoming increasingly important for policymakers to have an appropriate framework for planning and managing curb space in urban areas.
