Pterygoplichthys punctatus and P. weberi, new species, are unique among hypostomines in having a medially divided buccal papilla. The two species can be separated from one another by color (small spots in P. punctatus, large in P. weberi), condition of the buccal papilla (deeply divided at all ages in P. punctatus vs. shallowly divided in adults of P. weberi), condition of the lateral keel odontodes (fairly short and directed posteriorly in P. punctatus vs. large and directed almost laterally in P. weberi), and body width (SL/cleithral width 3.6-4.0 in P. punctatus vs. 3.3-3.4 in P. weberi). Ecological theory predicts that interspecific interactions can affect population and community dynamics. Two experiments were conducted on Mantidactylus bicalcaratus and M. punctatus, two sympatric frog species from Madagascar that live and breed in rain-forest plants (Pandanus spp.), to test for interspecific competition. The first experiment examined larval growth rates and survivorship with and without conspecifics. While survivorship did not differ among treatments, mean growth rates for M. bicalcaratus were significantly reduced in the presence of M. punctatus larvae. The second experimen

The type specimens of Pluteus dianae and P. punctatus from the Czech Republic were studied morphologically and molecularly. New collections identified by nrITS sequence analyses extend the distribution of P. dianae to Denmark, European Russia, and the Asian part of Turkey and of P. punctatus to Sweden. The application of these names is discussed; both belong in the P. plautus complex, and data on European and North American taxa in this complex are summarised and compared with P. dianae and P. punctatus. The first steps of the de novo synthesis of alkoxyether lipids, like plasmalogens and platelet activating factor (PAF) are localized in the peroxisome. We have previously reported the severely impaired PAF synthesis in Zellweger patients. These patients lack cytochemically detectable peroxisomes, and have a severely impaired alkoxyether lipid synthesis. However, chondro dysplasia punctata (CDP) patients have also been shown to have an impaired alkoxyether lipid synthesis. We therefore investigated PAF synthesis in CDP patients.Platelets and leucocytes were isolated from 3 CDP patients. Leucocy
