Abstract:
In this paper, we propose a new genetic encoding for well known Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP). The new encoding schemes are implemented with appropriate objective function and modified genetic operators. The numerical experiments were carried out on the standard QAPLIB data sets known from the literature. The presented results show that in all cases proposed genetic algorithm reached known optimal solutions in reasonable time.

AbstractThis paper presents an application of the ant algorithm and bees algorithm in optimization of QAP problem as an example of NP-hard optimization problem. The experiments with two types of algorithms: the bees algorithm and the ant algorithm were performed for the test instances of the quadratic assignment problem from QAPLIB, designed by Burkard, Karisch and Rendl. On the basis of the experiments results, an influence of particular elements of algorithms, including neighbourhood size and neighbourhood search method, will be determined.

Abstract:
In this paper, a 2-level iterated tabu search (ITS) algorithm for the solution of the quadratic assignment problem (QAP) is considered. The novelty of the proposed ITS algorithm is that the solution mutation procedures are incorporated within the algorithm, which enable to diversify the search process and eliminate the search stagnation, thus increasing the algorithm’s efficiency. In the computational experiments, the algorithm is examined with various implemented variants of the mutation procedures using the QAP test (sample) instances from the library of the QAP instances – QAPLIB. The results of these experiments demonstrate how the different mutation procedures affect and possibly improve the overall performance of the ITS algorithm.

Abstract:
The quadratic assigment problem (QAP) has remainedone of the great challenges in combinatorial optimization. In this paper I propose two programs, the MATLAB program for solving QAP, and the MATLAB program for checking objective value, if we input an arbitrary permutation, matrix flow and matrix distance. The first program using combination methods that combines random point strategy, forward exchange strategy , and backward exchange strategy. I‘ve tried my program to solve Esc 16b, Esc 16c and Esc 16h from QAPLIB (A Quadratic Assignment Problem Library). In the 500th iteration optimal value reached and I‘ve found the other assignment for problem instances Esc 16b, Esc 16c, and Esc 16h.

Abstract:

Nowadays, the metaheuristics are the most studied methods used to solve the hard optimization problems. Hunting Search algorithm is a metaheuristic inspired by the method of group hunting of predatory animals like wolves. Created for solving continuous optimization problems, recently, it is adapted and evaluated to solve hard combinatorial optimization problems. This paper proposes an improved hunting search algorithm to solve the quadratic assignment problem. No local search method is used. To evaluate the performances of this work, the improved Hunting Search is checked on a set of 36 instances of QAPLib and it outperforms the results obtained by the well-known metaheuristics.

Abstract:
In this research, we intend to suggest a new method based on a parallel hybrid chicken swarm optimization (PHCSO) by integrating the constructive procedure of GRASP and an effective modified version of Tabu search. In this vein, the goal of this adaptation is straightforward about the fact of preventing the stagnation of the research. Furthermore, the proposed contribution looks at providing an optimal trade-off between the two key components of bio-inspired metaheuristics: local intensification and global diversification, which affect the efficiency of our proposed algorithm and the choice of the dependent parameters. Moreover, the pragmatic results of exhaustive experiments were promising while applying our algorithm on diverse QAPLIB instances. Finally, we briefly highlight perspectives for further research.

Abstract:
The World Health Organization currently estimates that suicide is the leading cause for the loss of a million lives, being appointed as the tenth leading cause of death worldwide. In Portugal, the National Statistics Institute points out suicide as most frequent non-natural cause of death. To deepen our understanding of suicidal behavior from a sociocultural perspective, particularly as regards attitudes towards suicide, this study aimed to construct and validate to the Portuguese population a questionnaire designed to measure the attitudes of permissiveness and incomprehensibility - Questionário de Atitude de Permissividade e Incompreensibilidade face ao Suicídio (QAPIS). In a sample of 472 participants, we found significant differences between religious and nonreligious individuals, and between individuals who have done or never made a suicide attempt in the two types of attitudes measured with QAPIS.

McCuaig, Adria Cowell. "Arctic-adapted art education : looking at the art education experiences and efforts of Inuit artist Andrew Qappik." Thesis, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/2152/ETD-UT-2009-08-312.

Abstract:
This thesis presents a qualitative case study based on interviews I conducted with contemporary Inuit artist and art educator Andrew Qappik. I traveled to Pangnirtung, Nunavut Territory, Canada in order to ask the 45-year-old "master printmaker" about the art education he received as a child and adult while living in a mostly Inuit town of approximately 1,300 in the eastern Canadian Arctic. Additionally, I interviewed Qappik about the art-teaching activities he has been providing to children and adults, in Pangnirtung and beyond, for the past fifteen years. My research sheds light not only on Qappik's personal experiences, but, by extension, on the nature of the art education models recently and currently operating in his local and regional communities. In this thesis, I present information about the "arctic-adapted" nature of art education within a unique borderland society--a location in which the traditions, values and contemporary practices of the indigenous Inuit culture are intertwined with those of the dominant, mainstream, Canadian culture.
text

Full text
Abstract:
Psychoeducation and several clinical psychology theoretical approaches suggest that the interventionist constitute a fundamental active ingredient of psychosocial interventions for individuals with adjustment problems. Among the various characteristics of interventionists there are useful to consider, attitudes and preferences in interventions are important because they can be related to an adequate matching in a given intervention milieu, to professional self-efficacy and, ultimately, to the intervention efficacy. However, there are very empirically-validated psychometric instrument to asses these important constructs. The main aim of this study was to make a preliminary evaluation of the psychometric properties of the French-Canadian version of the Counselors’ AIttitudes and Preferences Questionnaire (“Questionnaire d’attitudes et de préférences éducatives des intervenants”, QAPÉI; Jesness & Wedge, 1983; Le Blanc, Trudeau-Le Blanc, & Lanctôt, 1999). The first objective was to assess if the original theoretical structure could be reproduced empirically, or if an alternative factor structure was necessary. The second objective was to assess if interventionists’ attitudes and preferences were related to their personality traits. The sample that was used was composed of interventionists from Boscoville2000, a residential cognitive-behavioral intervention program for adolescents with serious adjustment problems. Exploratory factor analyses demonstrated that the original theoretical structure was not reproduced empirically. An alternative five-factor structure was recovered. This alternative structure was more conceptually coherent and provided a better fit to the data. The identified factors were labeled Affective distance, Therapeutic Avoidance, Exasperation, Permissiveness, and Coercion. Correlational analyses demonstrated that attitudes and preferences scales were related in a conceptually coherent way to interventionists’ personality traits, which supported the criterion-related validity of the instrument new structure.
