Abstract:
Abstract This study investigated the biometry, pre-germination treatments and substrates for the germination of diaspores of Balfourodendron riedelianum. The diaspores were characterized during germination according to their length, width, thickness, thousand kernel weight (TKW) and water content. Dormancy overcoming was tested by diaspore scarifying with sandpaper, sulfuric acid immersion, water and water at 100 °C; together with the control (untreated), they were associated to different substrates (including paper (EP), sand (EA) and vermiculite (EV). Germination tests were conducted in a germination chamber at 25 °C. The physiological quality of seeds was performed through the first count, germination and germination speed index (GSI). Biometric data were analyzed in frequency classes and the pre-germination treatment by analysis of variance. Diaspores are on average 18.59 mm long; 9.03 mm wide and 9.38 mm thick. The treatment of immersion in cold water for 48 hours and the substrate vermiculite (EV) were effective to overcome dormancy and recommended for germination tests.

Abstract:
AbstractVarious types of trenchless methods are extensively used to create engineering barriers for the purpose of achieving relatively low hydraulic conductivity of the subsoil and hydrotechnical structures. The most commonly used technologies of the grouting curtain creating are the DSM (Deep Soil Mixing), WIPS (Vibro Injcted Thin Wall), low-pressure injection and jet-grouting. Vertical barriers are widely used in environmental control systems to restrict the lateral spreading of liquid or gaseous contaminants and for seepage control through and beneath a levees. The barrier walls are constructed in a single or two phases using a slurry composed mainly of bentonite, cementitious materials and water. Often to solve complex geotechnical problems the technologies are combined (e.g. combining DSM and jet grouting). In the paper some examples of practical application of chosen types of technology dedicated different problems solving are presented. The results of geotechnical investigations of hydraulic permeability, shear strength and depth control of cut-off wall are given. The tests were carried out using BAT system, Cone Penetration Tests (CPT) and drillings. The presented test results should help define the technical and financial criteria that should be used to compare grouting based methods and other techniques applicable to the same geotechnical special works. These recommendations should permit an adequate application of grouting techniques and contribute to finding solutions for the delicate problem of ground sealing, notably when proceeding with hydrotechnical or environmental structures placed below water table.

AbstractThe work presents a simulation model of a “driver–automation–autonomous vehicles–road” system which is the basis for synthesis of automatic gear shift control system. The mathematical description makes use of physical quantities which characterise driving torque transformation from the combustion engine to the car driven wheels. The basic components of the model are algorithms for the driver’s action logic in controlling motion velocity, logic of gear shift control functioning regarding direction and moment of switching, for determining right-hand side of differential equations and for motion quality indicators. The model is realised in a form of an application software package, comprising sub-programmes for input data, for computerised motion simulation of cars with mechanical and hydro-mechanical – automatically controlled – transmission systems and for models of characteristic car routes.

Abstract:
AbstractRenewable energy reliability has been the main agenda nowadays, where the internet of things (IoT) is a crucial research direction with a lot of opportunities for improvement and challenging work. Data obtained from IoT is converted into actionable information to improve wind turbine performance, driving wind energy cost down and reducing risk. However, the implementation in IoT is a challenging task because the wind turbine system level and component level need real-time control. So, this paper is dedicated to investigating wind resource assessment and lifetime estimation of wind power modules using IoT. To illustrate this issue, a model is built with sub-models of an aerodynamic rotor connected directly to a multi-pole variable speed permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) with variable speed control, pitch angle control and full-scale converter connected to the grid. Besides, a large number of various sensors for measurement of wind parameters are integrated with IoT. Simulations are constructed with Matlab/Simulink and IoT ’Thingspeak’ Mathworks web service. IoT has proved to increase the reliability of measurement strategies, monitoring accuracy, and quality assurance.

Abstract:
Abstract: The design of the control charts for the process mean, assumes that this parameter remains fixed on its target value until the occurrence of a special cause that shifts it. In many cases, however, it is more reasonable to assume that the mean wanders even in the absence of special causes. To describe this wandering behavior, has used the AR(1) model. When the wandering behavior is responsible for significant proportion of the data variability, the best performance of the X chart is obtained with samples of size one (n=1). The same is not true with the EWMA control chart (except when the smoothing parameter  is very close to one), its best performance is achieved with the adoption of n>1 and small , even to detect large changes in the process mean position. In this study, the average time between the occurrence of a change in the process mean position and the signal (TES) - is used to assess the chart's performance. With the process mean wandering, this measure of performance becomes function of the expected number of visits to the transient states of a Markov chain
Orientador: Antonio Fernando Branco Costa
Coorientador: Marcela Aparecida Guerreiro Machado
Banca: Mauro Hugo Mathias
Banca: Fernando Antonio Elias Claro
Mestre

In the current scenario, there is a lack resources compatible with the needs of the population (aging), and abound complaints from users, mainly by delays in care and the lack of attention of the agents involved. The supplimental health (private sector) that began operations in Brazil in the 50s, meeting the needs of employees of some multinational companies settled in the country, today serves 46 million beneficiaries. With fewer users and more resources, the private sector receives fewer complaints than the public sector, but there area complaints and in a considerable amount, for the same reasons the public sector. The SERVQUAL model developed and subsequently refined by Parasuraman, Zeithml and Berry (1190), permits the measurement of service quality. Abstract:
Orientador: Francisco Araújo Câmara
Banca: Edson Luiz Furtado
Banca: Regina Marta Evangelista
Banca: Euclides Schallenberger
Abstract: In the dominant model of production, the tomato (which integrates the food habits of the population in general), demands an intensive use of agrochemicals, for its susceptibility to insects and diseases during cultivation phase. So, farmers meet dificulties in the organic method of production, because of the complexity of problems that this species presents. The purpose of the present work was to turn, to identify cultivars of tomato adapted to the organic and biodynamic methods of production, to evaluate these two systems, with alternative techniques for pest and disease control. The cultivars Epagri 19 and Epagri 17 were selected resistance due to there to pests and diseases. Epagri 19 was evaluated through the organic and biodynamic systems, with alternative treatments. It was verified that all of the alternative treatments were efficient in the control of diseases of the tomato. The biodynamic system presented a smaller severity of diseases than the organic. As to the productivity there was no difference between the systems. Parameters of quality of the tomato fruits have been evaluated, such as: weight loss, texture, pH, soluble solids, titratable acidity and reducing sugars. The organic and biodynamic production systems, together with the adoption of alternative treatments, and the use of resistant cultivars, allow the cultivation of tomatoes less dependent on pesticides, respecting the environment and the human health.
Doutor

A pharmacognostic study of Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeelsfruits (popularly known as “jambolão”) was then performed, pointing out the optimization of the extractive process, the determination of the antimicrobial activity of the crude extract, and the assessment of such activity after its incorporation into the liquid soap. The phytochemical screening from the fruits of S. cumini (L.) Skeels demonstrated tannins, flavonoids, anthocyanins, iridoids, alkaloids and simple phenol heterosides. By using dry residue content and antimicrobial activity assessment methodologies, a fatorial analysis was accomplished, and considering a dry fruit powder granulometry of 0.302 mm, the results indicated percolation as the best extraction method, and the mixture ethanol: water (50:50) as the best solvent concentration. The microorganisms S. aureus, S. epidermidis, P. aeruginosa, C. albicans, C. krusei and C. parapsilosis were used to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the extract, starting from 10000 æg/100 æL.
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the chemical characteristics of the samples collected from soybeans "milk" processing stages as well as using statistical process control (mean and standard deviation graphs) to determine the variability limits to control its production process. The used materials were: decorticated cooked soybeans water in grain, cooking the grain of peeled soybean, syrup preparation for soybeans "milk", the soybean residue (okara) and pasteurized soybean "milk" processed by the Unidade de Produção e Desenvolvimento de Derivados da Soja - UNISOJA. Three hundred and twenty nine (329) samples were analyzed, collected in 15 days from several points of the soybeans milk processing line. Among these 329 samples, 75 samples were taken from cooked grain strip for protein analysis and moisture; other 75 samples were taken from the cooking water of grain strip for protein analysis; 29 samples were taken from syrup for analysis of soluble solids; 75 samples were taken from residue (okara) for protein, lipids and ash analysis; and, finally, 75 samples were taken from soybean pasteurized "milk" for gray, color, lipids, protein and soluble solids analysis. All these analyses were performed in duplicate. The study showed that the graphics of the Statistical Process Control are efficient to detect possible failures during different stages of soy "milk" processing but there is still a need for training of officials and for standardization in the "milk" production process at the different stages. Moreover, it was possible to build the limits of the process in graphics of standard deviation and means for the critical processing stages in the soybeans "milk" production.
Orientador: José Paschoal Batistuti
Coorientador: Elizeu Antonio Rossi
Banca: José Paschoal Batistuti
Banca: Elizeu Antonio Rossi
Banca: João Bosco Faria
Banca: Alice Yoshiko Tanaka
Mestre

Abstract:
Abstract: Platelet concentrate is an important blood component for platelet transfusion. During storage, platelets undergo lesions that should be evaluated by laboratory assays. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physical, chemical, microbiological, structural and functional platelet qualities in canine platelet concentrate stored for 5 and 7 days. Platelet, leukocytes and erythrocytes concentrations per unit, pH and glucose measurements, swirling observation, microbiological analysis, assessment of platelet agregation and expression of GPIIbIIIa by flow cytometry were performed. Analyses were performed after centrifugation, and the fifth (group I) and seventh (group II) days of platelet concentrate storage obtained from 22 healthy dogs. All platelet concentrate bags were negative for microorganisms isolation. Platelet and leukocytes concentrations, pH, glucose, and swirling decreased significantly during storage, in both groups. A significant reduction in aggregatory response was detected in both groups, in the presence of ADP, epinephrine or both simultaneously. CD41 and CD61 antibodies showed high fluorescence at all times, and no significant variation in mean fluorescence intensity during storage. In conclusion, canine platelet concentrates should be stored for 5 days, however, can be stored for up to 7 days with greater loss of viability and quality of bags during this period. There was functional loss observed by the reduction of platelet aggregation during storage in both groups. CD41 and CD61 antibodies can be used to assess GPIIbIIIa in canine platelets stored during the evaluated period
Mestre

Abstract:
In recent years, there has been a steep rise in the quality of prostheses for patients with upper limb amputations. One common control method, using electromyographic (EMG) signals generated by muscle contractions, has allowed for an increase in the degrees of freedom (DOFs) of hand designs and a larger number of available grip patterns with little added complexity for the wearer. However, it provides little sensory feedback and requires non-natural control which must be learned by the user. Another recent improvement in prosthetic hand design instead employs electroneurographic (ENG) signals, requiring an interface directly with the peripheral nervous system (PNS) or the central nervous system (CNS) to control a prosthetic hand. While ENG methods are more invasive than using surface EMG for control, an interface with the PNS has the potential to provide more natural control and creates an avenue for both efferent and afferent sensory feedback. Despite the recent progress in design and control strategies, however, prosthetic hands are still far more limited than the actual human hand. This review outlines the recent progress in the development of EMG and ENG controlled prosthetic hands, discussing advancements in the areas of sensory feedback and control. The potential benefits and limitations of both control strategies, in terms of signal classification, invasiveness, and sensory feedback, are examined. A brief overview of interfaces with the CNS is provided, and potential future developments for these control methods are discussed.

Abstract:
The main objectives of this project were to review the available balanced-mix design (BMD) methodologies, understand the I-FIT and Hamburg Wheel Tracking Test (HWTT) test methods using INDOT asphalt mixtures, and to explore the application of these tests to both a BMD approach and as performance-related Quality Control (QC) and Quality Acceptance (QA) methods. Two QA mixture specimen types, plant-mixed laboratory-compacted (PMLC) and plant-mixed field-compacted (PMFC) were used in the determination of cracking and rutting parameters. Distribution functions for the flexibility index (FI) values and rutting parameters were determined for various mixture types. The effects of specimen geometry and air voids contents on the calculated Flexibility Index (FI) and rutting parameters were investigated. The fatigue characteristics of selected asphalt mixtures were determined using the S-VECD test according to different FI levels for different conditions. A typical full-depth pavement section was implemented in FlexPAVE to explore the cracking characteristics of INDOT asphalt mixtures by investigating the relationship between the FI values of QA samples with the FlexPAVE pavement performance predictions. The FI values obtained from PMFC specimens were consistently higher than their corresponding PMLC specimens. This study also found that FI values were affected significantly by variations in specimen thickness and air voids contents, having higher FI values with higher air voids contents and thinner specimens. These observations do not agree with the general material-performance expectations that better cracking resistance is achieved with lower air voids content and thicker layers. Additionally, PG 70-22 mixtures show the lowest mean FI values followed by the PG 76-22 and 64-22 mixtures. The same order was observed from the ΔTc (asphalt binder cracking index) of INDOT’s 2017 and 2018 projects. Finally, it was found that the HWTT showed reasonable sensitivity to the different characteristics (e.g., aggregate sizes, binder types, and air voids contents) of asphalt mixtures. Mixtures containing modified asphalt binders showed better rut resistance and higher Rutting Resistance Index (RRI) than those containing unmodified binders.

Abstract:
This project summarizes the results from 2000–2020and evaluates the trueness andthequality control (QC) procedures of the ongoing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)and trace element measurements in Finlandrelating to Air Quality (AQ) Directive 2004/107/EC. The evaluation was focused on benzo(a)pyrene and other PAH compounds as well as arsenic, cadmium and nickel in PM10and deposition. Additionally, it included lead and other metals in PM10and deposition, gaseous mercury and mercury deposition, andbriefly other specificAQ measurements such as volatile organic compounds (VOC)and PM2.5chemical composition. This project was conducted by the National Reference Laboratory on air quality and thiswas the first time these measurements were assessed. A major part of the project was field and laboratory audits of the ongoing PAH and metal measurements. Other measurements were briefly evaluated through interviews and available literature. In addition, the national AQ database, the expertise of local measurement networks and related publications were utilised. In total, all theseven measurement networks performing PAH and metal measurements in 2019–2020took part in the audits. Eleven stations were audited while these measurements are performed at 22 AQ stations in Finland. For the large networks, one station was chosen to represent the performance of the network. The audits included also six laboratories performing the analysis of the collected samples. The audits revealed the compliance of the measurements with the AQ Decree 113/2017, Directive 2004/107/EC and Standards of the European Committee for Standardization(CEN). In addition, general information of the measurements, instruments and quality control procedures were gained. The results of the laboratory audits were confidential, but this report includes general findings, and the measurement networks were informed on the audit results with the permission of the participating laboratories. As a conclusion, the measurementmethodsusedwere mainly reference methods. Currently, all sampling methods were reference methods; however, before 2018 three networks used other methods that may have underestimated concentrations. Regarding these measurements, it should be noted the results are notcomparable with the reference method. Laboratory methods were reference methods excluding two cases, where the first was considered an acceptable equivalent method. For the other, a change to a reference method was strongly recommended and this realized in 2020. For some new measurements, the ongoing QC procedures were not yet fully established, and advice were given. Some networks used consultant for calibration and maintenance, and thus theywere not fully aware of the QC procedures. EN Standards were mostly followed. Main concerns were related to the checks of flow and calculation of measurement uncertainty, and suggestions for improvement were given. When the measurement networks implement the recommendations given inthe audits, it can be concluded that the EN Standards are adequately followed in the networks. In the ongoing sampling, clear factors risking the trueness of the result were not found. This applies also for the laboratory analyses in 2020. One network had concentrations above the target value, and theindicative measurementsshould be updated to fixed measurements.

This dataset constitutes a panel follow-up to the 2016/2017 Suriname Survey of Living Conditions. It measures welfare related variables before and after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic including labor market outcomes, financial literacy, and food security. The survey was executed in August 2020. The Suriname COVID-19 Survey is a project of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). It collected data on critical socioeconomic topics in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic to support policymaking and help mitigate the crisis impacts on the populations welfare. The survey recontacted households interviewed in 2016/2017 by the Suriname Survey of Living Conditions (SSLC) and was conducted by phone due to the mobility restrictions and social distancing measures in place. It interviewed 1,016 households during August 2020 and gathered information about disease transmission, household finances, labor, income, remittances, spending, and social protection programs. Data and documentation of the 2016/2017 Suriname Survey of Living Conditions can be found at: https://publications.iadb.org/en/suriname-survey-living-conditions-2016-2017 The survey was designed and implemented by Sistemas Integrales. This publication describes the main methodological aspects, such as sample design, estimation procedures, topics covered by the questionnaire, field organization and quality control. It also presents the structure and codebook for the two resulting publicly available datasets.
