The peculiarity of the Individual style, psychological and metaphorical image, landscape, portrait, mental state of the hero. The author's speech is that the title, epigraph, text, skill means a much wider range of meanings than the style, the technique is applied to the addicts of many styles, such as realistic style, romantic or classic. It should also be noted that when we say a realistic or romantic style, we understand the generality of the style. And the individuality of the style is analyzed as an image and a form of expression, which characterizes the content of the work as holistic and complete.

Abstract:
In its most basic form, empathy refers to the ability to understand another person’s feelings and emotions, representing an essential component of human social interaction. Owing to an increase in the use of mass media, which is used to distribute high levels of empathy-inducing content, media plays a key role in individual and social empathy induction. We investigated empathy induction in cartoons using eye movement, EEG and behavioral measures to explore whether empathy factors correlate with character drawing styles. Two different types of empathy-inducing cartoons that consisted of three stages and had the same story plot were used. One had an iconic style, while the other was realistic style. Fifty participants were divided into two groups corresponding to the individual cartoon drawing styles and were presented with only one type of drawing style. We found that there were no significant differences of empathy factors between iconic and realistic style. However, the Induced Empathy Score (IES) had a close relationship with subsequent attentional processing (total fixation length for gaze duration). Furthermore, iconic style suppressed the fronto-central area more than realistic style in the gamma power band. These results suggest that iconic cartoons have the advantage of abstraction during empathy induction, because the iconic cartoons induced the same level of empathy as realistic cartoons while using the same story plot (top-down process), even though lesser time and effort were required by the cartoon artist to draw them. This also means that the top-down process (story plot) is more important than the bottom-up process (drawing style) in empathy induction when viewing cartoons

Abstract:
Developing diverse and realistic agents in terms of behaviour and skill is crucial for game developers to enhance player satisfaction and immersion. Traditional game design approaches involve hand-crafted solutions, while learning game-playing agents often focuses on optimizing for a single objective, or play-style. These processes typically lack intuitiveness, fail to resemble realistic behaviour, and do not encompass a diverse spectrum of play-styles at varying levels of skill. To this end, our goal is to learn a set of policies that exhibit diverse behaviours or styles while also demonstrating diversity in skill level. In this paper, we propose a novel pipeline, called PCPG (Play-style-Centric Policy Generation), which combines unsupervised play-style identification and policy learning techniques to generate a diverse set of play-style-centric agents. The agents generated by the pipeline can effectively capture the richness and diversity of gameplay experiences in multiple video game domains, showcasing identifiable and diverse play-styles at varying levels of proficiency.

Abstract:
For several decades, researchers have been advancing techniques for creating and rendering 3D digital faces, where a lot of the effort has gone into geometry and appearance capture, modeling and rendering techniques. This body of research work has largely focused on facial skin, with much less attention devoted to peripheral components like hair, eyes and the interior of the mouth. As a result, even with the best technology for facial capture and rendering, in most high-end productions a lot of artist time is still spent modeling the missing components and fine-tuning the rendering parameters to combine everything into photo-real digital renders. In this work we propose to combine incomplete, high-quality renderings showing only facial skin with recent methods for neural rendering of faces, in order to automatically and seamlessly create photo-realistic full-head portrait renders from captured data without the need for artist intervention. Our method begins with traditional face rendering, where the skin is rendered with the desired appearance, expression, viewpoint, and illumination. These skin renders are then projected into the latent space of a pre-trained neural network that can generate arbitrary photo-real face images (StyleGAN2). The result is a sequence of realistic face images that match the identity and appearance of the 3D character at the skin level, but is completed naturally with synthesized hair, eyes, inner mouth and surroundings. Notably, we present the first method for multi-frame consistent projection into this latent space, allowing photo-realistic rendering and preservation of the identity of the digital human over an animated performance sequence, which can depict different expressions, lighting conditions and viewpoints. Our method can be used in new face rendering pipelines and, importantly, in other deep learning applications that require large amounts of realistic training data with ground-truth 3D geometry, appearance maps, lighting, and viewpoint.

Abstract:
In the fourth industrial revolution, the scale of execution for interactive applications increased substantially. These interactive and animated applications are human-centric, and the representation of human motion is unavoidable, making the representation of human motions ubiquitous. Animators strive to computationally process human motion in a way that the motions appear realistic in animated applications. Motion style transfer is an attractive technique that is widely used to create realistic motions in near real-time. motion style transfer approach employs existing captured motion data to generate realistic samples automatically and updates the motion data accordingly. This approach eliminates the need for handcrafted motions from scratch for every frame. The popularity of deep learning (DL) algorithms reshapes motion style transfer approaches, as such algorithms can predict subsequent motion styles. The majority of motion style transfer approaches use different variants of deep neural networks (DNNs) to accomplish motion style transfer approaches. This paper provides a comprehensive comparative analysis of existing state-of-the-art DL-based motion style transfer approaches. The enabling technologies that facilitate motion style transfer approaches are briefly presented in this paper. When employing DL-based methods for motion style transfer, the selection of the training dataset plays a key role in the performance. By anticipating this vital aspect, this paper provides a detailed summary of existing well-known motion datasets. As an outcome of the extensive overview of the domain, this paper highlights the contemporary challenges faced by motion style transfer approaches.

Abstract:
I am concerned in this paper with investigating the complex relationship of Maksim Gor'kii with the literature of his day, including the so-called realists, but particularly with the decadents, the symbolists, and other writers generally thought of as alien to Russian realism, whether critical or socialist. The stereotype of Gor'kii still dominant in some quarters presents him as walled off from “decadent” and “bourgeois” literary styles and from the carriers of such “contamination.” But Gor'kii was much more complex and more interesting than we have supposed, and he functioned during much of his career as part of a literary world in which “symbolism,” rather loosely denned, was the dominant literary tendency. I would like to adduce evidence of the effect on his writing of symbolist and other modern influences and of his close relationship, at the same time, to the popular culture of the day.

Abstract:
The large number of experimentally determined molecular structures has led to the development of a new semiotic system in the life sciences, with increasing use of accurate molecular representations. To determine how this change impacts students’ learning, we incorporated image tests into our introductory cell biology course. Groups of students used a single text dealing with signal transduction, which was supplemented with images made in one of three iconographic styles. Typically, we employed realistic renderings, using computer-generated Protein Data Bank (PDB) structures; realistic-schematic renderings, using shapes inspired by PDB structures; or schematic renderings, using simple geometric shapes to represent cellular components. The control group received a list of keywords. When students were asked to draw and describe the process in their own style and to reply to multiple-choice questions, the three iconographic approaches equally improved the overall outcome of the tests (relative to keywords). Students found the three approaches equally useful but, when asked to select a preferred style, they largely favored a realistic-schematic style. When students were asked to annotate “raw” realistic images, both keywords and schematic representations failed to prepare them for this task. We conclude that supplementary images facilitate the comprehension process and despite their visual clutter, realistic representations do not hinder learning in an introductory course.

Abstract:
Animé, a style of Japanese animation, has begun to evolve into more than a simple animation. The stories found in animé have reached a level of complexity similar to traditional cinema. However, lighting in animé, has been minimal. Using computers to create animé, rather than creating it traditionally by hand, has allowed greater opportunities to be creative with lighting. Color and computer-generated (CG) effects can be integrated with traditional line drawings to create beautiful images in animé. Since cinematic lighting exhibits some of the finest examples of lighting, this thesis will analyze lighting styles from three different cinematographers and adapt them to three anim??e style scenes in 3D. The scenes will be modeled, lit, and rendered using Alias/Wavefront MAYATM, and textured using Adobe PhotoshopTM. The result will be a visual CG piece that adapts the lighting style of certain distinctive cinematographers, while retaining the look of animé.

The main purpose of NPR is to generate pencil sketching、watercolor and oil painting, something different from photos, automatically by computer algorithms. On the other hand, there is another technique called PR (Photo-Realistic Rendering). The goal of PR is to generate real objects by computer algorithms, such as Matting or Inpainting. Furthermore, NPR includes two modes:one is with physical model, researchers could write programs to simulate NPR by the properties of physical model. Without physical model, researchers could write programs to simulate NPR by their observation and deliberation. This thesis to the latter, there is no physical model in NPR. In the viewpoint of artists, drawing is performance of light and shadow. Then, in scientific, drawing depends on the degree of luminance. Luminance supports artists block and direction when drawing. Moreover, This thesis is mainly simulating oil painting with impressionist.

Abstract:
Master of Landscape Architecture
Department of Landscape Architecture/Regional and Community Planning
Katie (Mary Catherine) Kingery-Page
Landscape architecture lacks evidence-based theory for the communicative effectiveness of graphics used in representing design ideas to stakeholders. For the purpose of this study, communicative effectiveness is operationalized as visual communication that expresses accurately the design in a way that the receiver understands the intentions — programmatic, experiential or otherwise — of the design. People need graphic representation to grasp abstract concepts, and drawings can help one imagine what a place can look like years down the road (Hester 2007). Graphics inform the viewer about essential elements of the design and the broader impact that design has on future experiences (Coe 1981). Knowing how people perceive and understand design graphics is key to communicating effectively to clients and other stakeholders. Graphic communication is complex, and no formula exists for communication in landscape architecture (Kingery-Page and Hahn 2012; Ware 2014). The questions guiding this study are: What graphic representation styles increase the non-designers’ understanding of design proposals? Do degrees of abstraction or realism affect understanding of the design drawing? I identified three research phases to adequately answer the questions: Phase One: Site Design Development — I designed a site plan for the Manhattan Arts Center (MAC), a community arts center in Manhattan, Kansas. Design intentions were carefully outlined based on stakeholder input. Phase Two: Graphics Production — Visual representations of the site design were developed in styles ranging from formal abstract to more realistic, based on review of precedent images in academic and professional architectural publications. Phase Three: Evaluation of Graphics Through Focus Groups— The communicative effectiveness of the representations were tested through three focus groups of stakeholders. Content analysis of the recorded focus group sessions revealed patterns of understanding the graphics. Overall, participants revealed that the more real the abstraction, the less understanding takes place. Formal Abstraction communicates the physical dimensions of the design most effectively, and Formal Abstraction has relatively the same communicative effectiveness regarding experience of place. Quantitative and qualitative data informed the creation of theories and a framework practitioners may use for selecting the most effective graphic communication options appropriate to project and audience. Key Words: Effective visual representation, visual communication, graphic style, Formal Abstraction, Semi-Realistic Abstraction, Realistic Abstraction, drawings, design intent, design ideas, accurate, perception, understanding, stakeholders, non-designer, landscape architecture.

Abstract:
博士
國立臺灣師範大學
美術學系
101
The earth that human lives on is the vital platform for cultural interchange, and an ideal interface for artistic inference. In general, the exploration of “itself” derives from “maternal culture”, is closer to “itself” than that of any other different regional cultures around the world. Nowadays, under cultural globalization, it is expected to regard the speculation and differentiation for cultural-related issues as a kind of comprehension about oneself as well as global culture, and at the same time, the reflection and interpretation about oriental and occidental philosophical systems. Due to diversified deductions for contemporary artistic thoughts, the endless expansion of information, knowledge and theories were formed. And it is evident that owing to the process of unceasingly collisions and surges within global culture, a series of different cultural patterns and artistic types were exhibited. For this reason, I wish to confront “arts” under the premise of chronic self-inspection and spiritual investment, and through observation, inspiration, and speculation. Therefore, the connection amid nature, humanity, and mind were studied as thoroughly as possible. Base on the content of this thesis, relevant subjects and research methods were individually and specifically discussed. Firstly, according to the research of cultural anthropology, related artistic discourses and interpretations were extracted and expounded, and by this systematic research, it is expected to benefit the overall thoughts derived from mind and soul, within artistic exploration. Then it bridged the existing foundation laid by predecessors and the sages alike, and serves as the extension for future spiritual orientation as well as the artistic exploration. Secondly, regarding epochal cultural, historical, philosophical, aesthetical and artistic capacities, they were dealt with in-depth researches actively. Thirdly, comprehensive understandings and rectifications were made against issues such as spirit, thought, consciousness, concept and emotion. Fourthly, while focusing on contemporary artistic evolution, a massive sorting-out and summarization against the political, economical, social, psychological and religious aspects were conducted as well. At the same time, domestic researches and data were reviewed in addition to extensive quotations from western and overseas Chinese scholars. Moreover, the study of major artistic critiques helps expanding overall knowledge. I’ve retraced the cultural communication between oriental and occidental civilizations as well as the causes of the rise and fall of them, through concrete yet subtle cultural objects. Finally, I’ve explored the symbols, symbolizations and respective significances of ultra-realistic painting styles, so as to realize the mindset and spiritual interactions. Therefore, to summarize, consolidate and accurately discourse, and eventually to reflect aesthetic thoughts for “Oriental ultra-realistic painting style”, the artistic theories as well as the creation practices at the current stage for any individual.

Therefore, I chose my hometown —Nanjing as the subject for the creation. By combing virtual and real with Chinese ink, it represents the Nanjing city impression. It displays the poster with Chinese ink elements in layers. By weakening the enjoy of Chinese ink and extending the form and artistic conception for design with ink, it adds the poetic sense of beauty to the painting. After teasing out the two-thousand-year history and the cultural activities and customs since the Nanjing city was built, the creator will select representative elements for Nanjing's culture with his 24-year love for the city to design the poster and create a successful Nanjing impression. The creation covers architecture, food and in heritage for related elements. The creation adopted multiple methods to represent the Chinese ink skill , for example, capturing the ink track in water by digital camera; taking note of the vertical ink stream track by scan. Those naturally formed ink track has unique beauty to help the poster to build artistic construction. For later research and advice, the creator thinks, in this combined era with science technology and media; this kind of dynamic poster can be more of stereo aesthetic feeling and visual impact by combing digital technology and the Nanjing impression. But with the increase of dynamic poster, it can only be unique by adding more creative elements.

Abstract:
The goal of this thesis is to describe teaching styles of two secondary mathematics teachers with very different approaches. One of them represents traditional frontal instruction and one prefers students to be more actively involved in the learning process. Their styles are compared based on their teaching a concrete mathematical topic, namely plane analytic geometry of lines. Examined teaching styles (frontal instruction and so-called realistic education) and selected research with a similar focus are described in the theoretical part of the thesis. The research consisted of observations in lessons of both teachers and a final test for their students. The acquired data has been analyzed by qualitative and quantitative methods. The teacher representing traditional frontal instruction emphasizes practising and explaining the new topic. Problems are solved by herself or one chosen student on the blackboard. Questions, which she is asking, require mainly short answers and are focused on reproduction of the previously learnt knowledge. During the lessons of the teacher who is the creator and also an exponent of the so-called realistic education, students are solving problems independently. New topics are discussed collectively, the teacher often asks questions focused on the application of previous knowledge,...

Abstract:
碩士
國立臺灣藝術大學
造形藝術研究所
99
If we examine Guiseppe Castiglione—an European painter who travelled and lived in China—from oriental perspective, we may found a strong Chinese tradition in his works; and if we analyze his paintings in view of his Chinese identity (he dedicated his life for Ch’ing Dynasty for 51 years), he would be the first “formally trained Chinese painter” with best understanding of Perspective Theory, Anatomy, and painting skills. This essay is attempting to answer two questions: how did the missionary painter transfer his techniques and experience so well to silk paper painting? And, in what strategy did he learn Chinese painting feature and even surpassed other court painters? This essay is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the motivation and purpose of the research. The second chapter refers to the art education and painting skills he received of his time in Europe before he took his trip to China. In Chapter Three, the discussion pays attention to his experiment, learning, and practice of Chinese painting skills; meanwhile, some of his works are provided as examples to identify the transformation of his style. In Chapter Four, the topic continues from the preceding paragraph to further analyze the compositions in his paintings. Experiment is presented to see whether the base materials he had used resulted in the difference of colors on his paintings. The fifth chapter is the conclusion which hopes to redefine Giuseppe Castiglione’s position in Chinese painting in the light of aesthetics and to represent the monumental significance when west met the east. On the other hand, by examining Giuseppe Castiglione’s art works, this paper will reinterpret the essence of Chinese painting.

Abstract:
碩士
國立臺北教育大學
台灣文學研究所
94
Abstract The Resistance of Taiwanese doctors to the Nationalist Party, Guomindang’s coercive ruling after WWII was identical to that of Jiang Wei Shuei, Lai He and others against Japanese colonization. Many doctors died, were put in jails, or were under long-term surveillance in the process of the 228 Event, country-cleansing campaign, appeasement, and white terror. Those surviving the process were mostly forced to become silent and quiet. This phenomenon lasted for about 30 years old until the influential “Formosa Incident” took place. Doctors who could no longer endure the situation formed a group. These doctors were born and graduated from medical schools in central and southern Taiwan. They were Dr. Zeng Guei-Hai, Dr. Jiang Zih De, and Dr. Jheng Jong Ming, who documented environmental protection, medical incidences, and historical events in their poetry. Through the imagery, metaphor, and irony of poetry, they expressed their dissatisfaction with Guomindang’s inappropriate administration as well as their suggestions for improvement. Their achievement and influence are compatible with those of Jiang Wei Shuei and Lai He during the Japanese ruling. They continued the tradition of the Cultural Resistance of Taiwanese doctors and set another example for the descendents. The integration of literature and society is presented in these three doctors’ poetries and personality, which can be verified and proved. They not only have their medical expertise and are kind in treating people, but also are dedicated in composing poetries. Their efforts and contribution to the society will definitely be made known on both Taiwanese medical history and cultural and social history. Nowadays, another party has taken power. Although the performance of the contemporary ruling party, the Democratic Progressive Party, is not satisfactory, they make decisions and policies prioritizing Taiwanese sovereignty. On the other hand, the opposition party obviously deviates from the great Taiwan land. They have never been able to provide Taiwan people with the option of “Taiwan Independence” apart from the two existing options, reunification and the status quo. Their behavior is against the principle of democracy and the universal value of “Let the civilians make their decisions”. Civilians, regardless of their origins, are the owner of their country. That is why they need to resist unrighteousness for protecting their homeland, and decide their own future. This may have been the same reason for which Zeng Guei-Hai, Jiang Zih De, and Jheng Jong Ming were dedicated to the cultural fight career. Keyword: Taiwanese doctors of poets, The Cultural Resistance, Zeng Guei-Hai, Jiang Zih De, Jheng Jong Ming, Realist poetry.

Abstract:
AbstractTransformation processes have not only different scales, significance and aspects. They can also be reflected in social behavior, and thus also in material culture. This chapter examines various categories of objects of non-utilitarian nature with realistically depicted elements. By analysing a Trypillian group of ceramic objects and anthropomorphic figurines from the Middle and Late Neolithic tell Vinča-Belo Brdo, we can show their temporal and spatial change within the transformation of aggregated settlements during the periods with the highest population density. Our analysis of one of the components of material culture shows huge prospects for studying anatomy and different aspects of transformations and their reflections.

Abstract:
AbstractLocal solutions to global environment challenges form part of the Martinez-Alier style of ecological economics in Barcelona. This tends to involve an optimistic assessment of the role of cities. Here, I consider this role for the case of urban policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions. There is indeed considerable optimism about the role of cities in global reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. I appraise recent studies and conclude that they (1) do not account for the limited reach of urban policies; (2) overplay voluntary action and underplay the importance of effective regulation; (3) disregard free riding and systemic effects like carbon leakage; and (4) lack quantitative estimates of the overall contribution of cities to emissions reduction, at best providing empirical indicators that do not connect well with urban policies. I provide an initial, tentative estimate of the upper bound to the contribution of city policies worldwide to global emissions reduction as equal to 16.8%, while realistic policies are assessed to control no more than 2%. These numbers underpin that the major part of emissions generated within city borders is outside the control of local policies, instead depending on policies set by national governments.

Full text
Abstract:
The first of three art chapters describes deep-ken approaches to the problem of representation: Deep-ken art is beautiful and proportioned, indifferent to plain-ken particularities, and richly (literally, with expensive material) coloured. The chapter looks in particular at consonances between symbol and referent, between exemplars of a tradition, between parts and the whole, between the expense of the pigments and the awesomeness of the subject, and between the depicted and the context of the art. The fifteenth-century is one of the great turning points in Western art history, celebrated as a shift towards images more three-dimensional, natural, and realistic—that is, closer to the plain-ken spacetime we generally perceive as natural and real. Rather than talking about a shift from abstract to real, we might consider a shift from a deep-ken realism to a plain-ken realism. Each style looks real if the viewer has the appropriate perspective. Indeed, in eastern Orthodox societies, Christians who had religious visions could and did use these “abstract” icons to identify their apparitions. Looking at Renaissance art as a shift between two kinds of realism, from the deep ken to the plain ken, makes it easier to dispel, or even reverse, triumphalist accounts of Renaissance art as progress.

Abstract:
Artistic style transfer aims to transfer the learned artistic style onto an arbitrary content image, generating artistic stylized images. Existing generative adversarial network-based methods fail to generate highly realistic stylized images and always introduce obvious artifacts and disharmonious patterns. Recently, large-scale pre-trained diffusion models opened up a new way for generating highly realistic artistic stylized images. However, diffusion model-based methods generally fail to preserve the content structure of input content images well, introducing some undesired content structure and style patterns. To address the above problems, we propose a novel pre-trained diffusion-based artistic style transfer method, called LSAST, which can generate highly realistic artistic stylized images while preserving the content structure of input content images well, without bringing obvious artifacts and disharmonious style patterns. Specifically, we introduce a Step-aware and Layer-aware Prompt Space, a set of learnable prompts, which can learn the style information from the collection of artworks and dynamically adjusts the input images' content structure and style pattern. To train our prompt space, we propose a novel inversion method, called Step-ware and Layer-aware Prompt Inversion, which allows the prompt space to learn the style information of the artworks collection. In addition, we inject a pre-trained conditional branch of ControlNet into our LSAST, which further improved our framework's ability to maintain content structure. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed method can generate more highly realistic artistic stylized images than the state-of-the-art artistic style transfer methods. Code is available at https://github.com/Jamie-Cheung/LSAST.

Full text
Abstract:
This report presents Re-Os dating of molybdenite from the Don Rouyn deposit and St. Jude breccia prospect in the Rouyn-Noranda mining district in the southern Abitibi greenstone belt, Quebec. Both have been described as porphyry-style, magmatic-hydrothermal Cu-(Au-Mo) deposits associated with the Flavrian and Powell subvolcanic plutons based on the nature of the mineralized zones, their setting and available U-Pb age constraints. To further constrain the timing of mineralization, molybdenite was sampled at both sites for Re-Os geochronology. Although the analyzed sample from the St. Jude prospect did not yield a realistic age, a molybdenite mineral separate sample from the Don Rouyn deposit yielded a reliable age of 2689 ± 11 Ma. Interestingly, the Don Rouyn molybdenite is distinguished by extremely high Re content (>5200 ppm Re) that compares with that of the world's richest porphyry deposits. Based on the Re-Os age obtained in this study and limited descriptions of the deposit available in the literature, the Don Rouyn deposit is most likely associated with the emplacement of the Flavrian-Powell intrusive complex at ~2700 Ma, as suggested in previous studies. However, a younger timing of emplacement, comparable to other ca. 2682-2680 sub-alkaline to alkaline magmatic-hydrothermal Cu-(Au-Mo) deposits in the southern part of Blake River Group, although less likely, cannot be entirely ruled out based on the available constraints and the molybdenite Re- Os age presented here.
