Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
- Cities were the natural environment for the spread of telephone services in the early phase of the new technology of vocal communication. The expansion of the telephone in the Spanish cities took place with a relative delay with respect to other European countries. The reasons for this relative delay were as much economic (rent and tariffs) as institutional, mainly the unstable government policy and the regime of concessions. The period between 1877-1930 analyzed here is rich in contrasts since it includes the passage from an overwhelming predominance of local networks, private as well as public, to a regime of virtual monopoly towards the creation of a system unified under a private monopoly with very few exceptions.

Abstract:

- In this article, we analyzed the concept of social identity complexity - a theoretical construct that refers to an individual's subjective representation of the interrelationships among his or her multiple group identities - in presence and virtual experiences. We thought social identity complexity reflects the degree of overlap perceived to exist between groups of which a person is simultaneously a member. Today, computer mediated communication (CMC) has a main point and meaningful influence in the construction of the social identity but the interaction with entity cognitive and the different levels of mediation has been a little considered.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the risk neutral and non-risk neutral pricing of Singapore Real Estate Investment Trusts (S-REITs) via comparing the average of the individual ratios (of deviation between expected and observed closing price/observed closing price) with the ratio (of standard deviation/mean) for closing prices via the binomial options pricing tree model. Design/methodology/approach – If the ratio (of standard deviation/mean) ratio > the ratio (of deviation between expected and observed closing price/observed closing price), then the deviation of closing prices from the expected risk neutral prices is not significant and that the S-REIT is consistent with risk neutral pricing. If the ratio (of deviation between expected and observed closing price/observed closing price) is greater, then the S-REIT is not consistent with risk neutral pricing. Findings – Capitacommercial Trust (CCT), Capitamall Trust (CMT) and Keppel Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) have large positive differences between the two ratios (39.86, 30.79 and 18.96 percent, respectively), implying that these S-REITs are not trading at risk neutral pricing. Suntec REIT has a small positive difference of 2.35 percent between both ratios, implying that it is trading at risk neutral pricing. Ascendas REIT has the largest negative difference between the two ratios at −4.24 percent, to be followed by Mapletree Logistics Trust at −0.44 percent. Both S-REITs are trading at risk neutral pricing. The analysis shows that CCT, CMT and Keppel REIT exhibit risk averse pricing. Research limitations/implications – Results are consistent with prudential asset allocation for viable S-REIT portfolio investing but that not all these S-REITs exhibit strong market efficiency in their pricing. Practical implications – Pricing may be risk neutral over a certain period but investor sentiments, fear of risks and speculative activities could affect an S-REIT’s risk neutrality. Social implications – With enhanced risk diversification activities, the S-REITs should attain risk neutral pricing. Originality/value – Virtually no research of this nature has been undertaken for S-REITS.

Written cultural heritage stored in the library is the only heritage of this type in Kaunas County and the largest among all County Public Libraries of Lithuania. An important part of the collection is Lithuanian contrafactions published in the press prohibition period (1864–1904). The collection contains 465 publications of 218 titles, which constitute 26.2 percent of all published contrafactions (833). According to the presently known statistics, 41.7 percent of the contrafactions stored at the KCPL are rare (up to 10 remaining copies); among them, there are 2 unique publications, 12 rarities, 19 especially rare publications. The major part of the collection consists of religious publications: prayer-books, saints’ lives, ascetic literature, etc. One fifth of the collection consists of secular books: fiction, calendars, household-practical books, etc. The low quality of polygraphy and artistry of their bindings are mostly due to contrafaction production and distribution conditions. Books were published at a low price, paperback, small in size and volume. More impressive were only prayer-book bindings. In the collection, 185 books are marked with various ownership insignias. There were found 255 book insignias: 124 institutional and personal stamps, 111 manuscript inscriptions, 12 glue marks, 4 ex-librises, 4 super-ex-librises; 51 books contain marginalia, mostly those from the Samogitian Priest Seminary Library. Manuscript inscriptions written in the Cyrillic alphabet show the influence of the press prohibition period on the culture of Lithuanian script. Provenances of the KCPL contrafactions, marginalia, book binding, etc. reflect the reading culture of the late 19th–early 20th century and are a source for the further investigation of the book and script history. The KCPL contrafactions are a significant supplement of national bibliography: 321 copies are not registered in the publications of retrospective national bibliography and in the data-bank of the Bibliography and Book Science Centre of the National Library. This written heritage is valuable for the Kaunas region for its amount and content, which represents the period of press prohibition. The second stage of creating virtual libraries, which has started in regional libraries, will guarantee the preservation and spread of this heritage.rif'; text-transform: uppercase;">

Abstract:
Abstract Background Diastasis recti is an abdominal wall defect that occurs frequently in women during pregnancy. Patients with diastasis can experience lower back pain, uro-gynecological symptoms, and discomfort at the level of the defect. Diastasis recti is diagnosed when the inter-rectus distance is > 2 cm. Several techniques, including both minimally invasive and open access surgical treatment, are available. Abdominoplasty with plication of the anterior rectus sheath is the most commonly used, with the major limitation of requiring a wide skin incision. The new technique we propose is a modification of Costa’s technique that combines Rives–Stoppa principles and minimally invasive access using a surgical stapler to plicate the posterior sheaths of the recti abdominis. Methods It is a fully laparoscopic technique. The pneumoperitoneum is induced from a sovrapubic trocar, placed using an open access technique. The posterior rectus sheath is dissected from the rectus muscle using a blunt dissector to create a virtual cavity. The posterior sheets of the recti muscles are plicated using an endo-stapler. A mesh is then placed in the retromuscular space on top of the posterior sheet without any fixation. Using a clinical questionnaire, we analyzed the outcomes in 74 patients who underwent minimally invasive repair for diastasis of the rectus abdominis sheath. Results Seventy-four patients (9 men and 65 women) were treated using this technique. Follow-up was started two months after surgery. All procedures were conducted successfully. There were no major complications or readmissions. No postoperative infections were reported. There were two recurrences after six months. There was a significant reduction in symptoms. Conclusions This new method is feasible and has achieved promising results, even though a longer follow-up is needed to objectively assess this technique.

ABSTRACT: With the self-isolation required by COVID-19, face-to-face teaching, a fundamental part of the internship experience, became unfeasible, implying and favoring the appearance of new fields for its realization. Thus, there came the offer of language courses, even though temporary, for emergency remote education (ERE), such as the FIVU classes. The main objective of this article is to present and discuss the development and application of thematic units of Italian language prepared by two students of the Italian Language course, regularly enrolled in the Teaching Practice of Neolatine Modern Foreign Languages, in addition to presenting their didactic experience in the regency in a virtual classroom. The didactic unit and virtual classes were made possible through screen sharing, slide shows, as well as through online tools, such as Mentimeter and Learning Apps. The Italian language extension courses are linked to the FIVU extension project (Training in Languages for University Life) and were made possible through a partnership between the faculty advisor, the intern students, and the Graduate Program in Education (PPGE) of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). The basic level course, with a duration of 30 hours, was given through the institutional Teams Office 365 and had a weekly load of 4 class hours. The target audience was nine master's and doctoral students from PPGE-UFPR, many of whom already had prior knowledge of the Italian language owing to the readings of their research bibliographies. Keywords: Teaching practice. Abstract:
Abstract Recent data suggest that estrogens play a role in regulating fluid resorption from the efferent ducts, though the biochemical mechanisms involved are unknown. The present study has used immunocytochemistry to localize a water channel protein, Aquaporin-1 (AQP-1), to the efferent ducts of male rats and marmoset monkeys from perinatal life through to adulthood and has then investigated its potential hormonal regulation in neonatal/peripubertal life, via administration of a GnRH antagonist (GnRHa) or diethylstilbestrol (DES) to rats. AQP-1 was immunoexpressed intensely in the apical brush border of the epithelium lining the efferent ducts at all ages studied, from late fetal life through puberty to adulthood. In the marmoset, but not the rat, AQP-1 was also expressed in the epithelium of the rete testis. Once the cell types within the efferent duct epithelium had differentiated, it was clear that only nonciliated cells of the rat localized AQP-1. When gonadotropin secretion was suppressed in rats by neonatal administration of GnRHa, immunoexpression of AQP-1 at age 18 and 25 days was virtually unchanged in intensity, though the efferent ducts were reduced in size. In contrast, when DES was administered neonatally to rats (up to day 12), immunoexpression of AQP-1 was reduced at day 10, virtually abolished at day 18, reduced markedly at day 25 and to a small extent at day 35; these findings were confirmed by Western blot analysis at day 18. The DES-induced decrease in immunoexpression of AQP-1 was accompanied by pronounced distension of the efferent ducts and rete, consistent with reduced fluid resorption. The epithelial cells of the efferent ducts in DES-treated rats were cuboidal rather than columnar in shape as in controls and were reduced significantly in height compared with controls at all ages through to adulthood. These findings suggest that estrogens may play a role in regulating fluid resorption from the efferent ducts during fetal/neonatal development and/or a role in the gross and functional development of the efferent ducts and rete testis. The present data also suggest that AQP-1 is one of the elements involved in the regulation of fluid resorption in the efferent ducts. The importance of fluid flow in fetal/neonatal development of the excurrent duct system of the male is also suggested by these observations.

Abstract:
Abstract The deep-ocean heat uptake (DOHU) in transient climate changes is studied using an ocean general circulation model (OGCM) and its adjoint. The model configuration consists of idealized Pacific and Atlantic basins. The model is forced with the anomalies of surface heat and freshwater fluxes from a global warming scenario with a coupled model using the same ocean configuration. In the global warming scenario, CO2 concentration increases 1% yr−1. The heat uptake calculated from the coupled model and from the adjoint are virtually identical, showing that the heat uptake by the OGCM is a linear process. After 70 yr the ocean heat uptake is almost evenly distributed within the layers above 200 m, between 200 and 700 m, and below 700 m (about 20 × 1022 J in each). The effect of anomalous surface freshwater flux on the DOHU is negligible. Analysis of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP-2) data for the same global warming scenario shows that qualitatively similar results apply to coupled atmosphere–ocean GCMs. The penetration of surface heat flux to the deep ocean in the OGCM occurs mainly in the North Atlantic and the Southern Ocean, since both the sensitivity of DOHU to the surface heat flux and the magnitude of anomalous surface heat flux are large in these two regions. The DOHU relies on the reduction of convection and Gent–McWilliams–Redi mixing in the North Atlantic, and the reduction of Gent–McWilliams–Redi mixing in the Southern Ocean.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the context of culture and history discourse and sociological analysis the interdisciplinary research reveals the significance of Jewish cultural heritage in the multinational Latgale region. Therefore, there are described topical tools in the research and preservation of Jewish cultural values and evaluated the necessity for acquisition of this culture at regional educational establishments. Prior to holocaust the ethnical group of Jews was one of the largest minorities in Latgale and had significant impact on the socio-economic and cultural development of the region. As a result of the research, it was found out that pupils and students possess knowledge about holocaust, but they have no clue about the life of this minority in Latgale before World War II and nowadays. In order to solve the problem the authors of the article offer to integrate the respective cultural and historical material into the interdisciplinary link because the tool forming memory culture are the contemporary realia – museum exhibits, photos, exhibitions, cultural and historical monuments, former Jewish squares and streets, architectonics of preserved houses, etc. RHEI REGI has created a virtual museum “Jews in Latgale” as an interactive tool offering teachers, museum staff and other interested persons video films, witnessing interviews and other materials.

Abstract:
Boars exhibit high concentrations of sulfonated estrogens (SE) mainly originating from the testicular-epididymal compartment. Intriguingly, in porcine Leydig cells, sulfonation of estrogens is colocalized with aromatase and steroid sulfatase (STS), indicating that de novo synthesis of unconjugated estrogens (UE), their sulfonation and hydrolysis of SE occur within the same cell type. So far in boars no plausible concept concerning the role of SE has been put forward. To obtain new information on SE formation and hydrolysis, the porcine testicular-epididymal compartment was screened for the expression of the estrogen-specific sulfotransferase SULT1E1 and STS applying real-time RT-qPCR, Western blot and immunohistochemistry. The epididymal head was identified as the major site of SULT1E1 expression, whereas in the testis, it was virtually undetectable. However, SE tissue concentrations are clearly consistent with the testis as the predominant site of estrogen sulfonation. Results from measurements of estrogen sulfotransferase activity indicate that in the epididymis, SULT1E1 is the relevant enzyme, whereas in the testis, estrogens are sulfonated by a different sulfotransferase with a considerably lower affinity. STS expression and activity was high in the testis (Leydig cells, rete testis epithelium) but also present throughout the epididymis. In the epididymis, SULT1E1 and STS were colocalized in the ductal epithelium, and there was evidence for their apocrine secretion into the ductal lumen. The results suggest that in porcine Leydig cells, SE may be produced as a reservoir to support the levels of bioactive UE via the sulfatase pathway during periods of low activity of the pulsatile testicular steroidogenesis.

Abstract:
This exploratory study presents four fund-raising texts for an analysis. Two are written as appeal letters and two as leafl ets. Their purpose of writing is to persuade an audience of Hong Kong residents to donate money for charity organizations. A qualitative approach informed by ethnography is adopted. Interviews with two organizations are conducted and verbal reporting of practitioners is used. In this study, one focus is on the schematic structure of texts and fund-raising texts are recognized as a particular of genre. The ‘Problem-solution discourse pattern’ can be applied to the fund-raising texts even though practitioners did not acknowledge they use any linguistic models. As for the textual moves, ‘situation or problem’ is always placed at the beginning of the text because it is crucial to let readers know what the main theme is. Then there are diff erent combinations of the second move including ‘response, solution or problem’. The fi nal move is always ‘response’ and two meanings of ‘response’ are refi ned to diff erent parameters: (i) tangibility: tangible and virtual solution, (ii) time frame: proposed and reference solution, and (iii) depth of target-achievement: ultimate and specifi c solution. Another focus of this study is on the choice of style. As persuasion of readers to donate is crucial, adding involving devices is to engage readers and make them ‘particular’, which increases the possibility to solicit response successfully. Involvement devices include using you and imperative clauses. Finally, with reference to the issue of whether ‘textual structure tells us the reality’ or ‘the reality creates the structure’, practitioners are not concerned too much with text structure. Practically, the reality to them is embodied in the structure.

Abstract:
Abstract BACKGROUND The incidence of non Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) increases with age, over one third of NHL cases involves elderly patients >70 years of age. As a matter of fact, many elderly patients (pts) are not enrolled in controlled studies because they do not meet the inclusion criteria. This is the reason why the data from trials on elderly cases are not representative for the whole elderly population. Consequently, many of these patients do not benefit of new therapeutic progresses and the treatment is not yet adequate. Moreover in case of relapse, salvage therapy in the elderly is virtually absent, and the prognosis is extremely poor. Lenalidomide is an immunomodulatory drug with anti-angiogenetic and anti-neoplastic action on cancer cells and also has other anti-tumor activity by acting on the neoplastic microenvironment. Both monotherapy and combination of Lenalidomide with rituximab have shown efficacy in terms of overall response rate (ORR, Overall Response Rate) in the setting of salvage therapy in relapsed/refractory DLBCL, with an acceptable rate of hematologic and extra-hematological toxicities PATIENTS AND METHODS In the period 2013-2014 we consecutively treated 12 elderly patients affected by advanced DLBCL relapsed/refractory. Median age at the start of treatment was 79 years (yrs) (62-86), 5 out 12 was over 80 yrs and 4 out 12 over 75 yrs. The median number of previous treatment was 3 (2-4), 3 pts were transplanted and 4 patients was refractory to previous line of therapy. The treatment scheme included at first cycle: Rituximab 375 mg/m2 i.v. days 1, 8, 15, 22, Desametasone 5 mg p.o. days 1, 8, 15, 22 and Lenalidomide 15 mg/die p.o. from day 2 to 22. From the second to the sixth cycle we administered Rituximab 375 mg/m2 i.v. days 1, 14, Lenalidomide 20 mg/die p.o. from day 2 to 22 RESULTS The overall response rate has been 75% (CR,PR,SD), 3 patients out 12 (25%) achieved a CR and 3 PR (25%). The median PFS was 6 months and with a median follow up of 1 year the overall survival is 25%.(fig.1) All deaths are due to lymphoma progression and the 3 patients in CR are still alive in CCR. CONCLUSIONS In this elderly and heavily pretreated group of patients our scheme containing Lenalidomide-Rituximab has shown an high rate of response with a good rate of CR and a promising trend in overall survival. The treatment appears feasible and safe also in this particular group of frail patients and even if we need more data to confirm we think it will be possible to extend this therapy in frail elderly patients in a most precocious line of treatment. Abstract:
Abstract Congenital anemia is difficult to diagnose once common causes have been excluded; for example 80% cases of congenital non-spherocytic hemolytic anemia are undiagnosed once pyruvate kinase and G6PD deficiencies have been excluded using phenotypic analysis. We describe a next generation sequencing strategy, targeting 147 genes, to facilitate the diagnosis of these conditions. The coding regions, splice sites and 200 bp into the untranslated regions were examined in each gene. All clinically significant variants were confirmed by Sanger sequencing, including confirmation in any appropriate family members. Illumina MiSeq data was analysed using a bespoke bioinformatics pipeline, which has been validated to a UK certified standard. The pipeline implements detection of genetic variants using multiple base callers and discovery of copy number variants based on sequencing depth. Variants are annotated with information from ClinVar, and population frequency data from ExAC and 1000 genomes project. All genes are sequenced in every individual but data analysis can easily be restricted to virtual subpanels, excluding analysis of genes not requested. Here we present three cases, highlighting the diagnostic utility of the panel as well as the underlying bioinformatics analysis. Case 1. A male Caucasian child of <1 year, presented with haemolysis (LDH 539 IU/L, total bilirubin 39 umol/L), haematology (Hb 92g/L, MCV 84.4, MCH 28.9, absolute retic count 313.8x109/L); his film showed marked anisopoikilocytes, microspherocytes and polychromasia. He had frontal bossing and a palpable spleen and had suffered several infections, the child was transfused once. His father's film showed elliptocytes, FBC (Hb 127g/L, MCV 89.6, MCH 30.6, absolute retic count 230.5x109/L) but he had never been transfused. The mother's FBC was normal (Hb 113g/L, MCV 87.0, MCH 29.2, absolute retic count 48.4x109/L) but her film also showed elliptocytes. Analysis using the red cell panel found the child to be compound heterozygous for c.83G>A; p.Arg28His and c.[5572C>G; 6531-12C>T]; p.[Leu1858Val;?] in the SPTA1 gene, suggesting the diagnosis of hereditary pyropoikilocytosis. The c.83G>A; p.Arg28His mutation was inherited from the father and the c.[5572C>G; 6531-12C>T]; p.[Leu1858Val;?] low expression allele was inherited from the mother, who was homozygous. Case 2. The post mortem report from a hydropic still birth (36/40) showed extensive extramedullary hematopoiesis and severe anemia. A DNA sample was sent to the laboratory accompanied by blood samples from both parents whose hematology was normal. The DNA sample from the proband was relatively small so only the parental samples were analyzed using the red cell panel. Sequence analysis identified the mother to carry the c.3173dupG; p.Gln1659fs pathogenic variant and the father carried the c.2867_2868+1dupCCG pathogenic variant in the CDAN1 gene. Sanger Sequencing showed that the child had inherited both mutations from the parents. Variants in CDAN1 are associated with CDA type 1 which is documented to be a rare form of anemia which can be lethal. Case 3. An Italian girl carrying a paternally inherited c.118C>T β0 thalassemia variant presented with a severe form of microcytic anemia (FBC, Hb 86g/L, RBC 4.87 x1012/L, MCV 55.2, MCH 17.7 and HbA2=5%). The severity of her anemia (not transfused) and palpable spleen suggested she had an additional pathogenic variant that had not been identified. Her mother had normal hematology FBC, Hb 133g/L, RBC 4.82x1012/L, MCV 79.9, MCH 27.6. After sequencing, Exome Depth analysis of the proband's LCR identified a novel deletion which removed the 5' HS1 and HS2 sites but left HS3-5 intact (confirmed by MLPA in the mother and proband). The combination of this mild down regulation of the beta globin locus in combination with the c.118C>T β0 thalassemia variant caused her phenotype to be more severe than just a beta thalassemia carrier. Identifying pathogenic variants in these families is important as it facilitates prognosis and treatment, and allows prenatal diagnosis to be offered in future. To date the panel has assessed 10 cases of anemia with unknown cause and has made a definitive diagnosis in 8 (80%). Of the two undiagnosed, one was a child that died at 3 weeks and received multiple intrauterine and neonatal transfusions and had severe anemia and the other was a suspected case of CDA with little associated phenotype. Disclosures No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Abstract:
10053 Background: Rare cancers (RC) are a challenge in terms of quality of care, access to health resources and clinical research. The Italian Rare Cancer Network (RTR: “Rete Tumori Rari”) is a clinical collaborative effort to improve quality of care in adult rare solid cancers in Italy. RTR enables institutions to share clinical cases and to rationalize access to distant reference centers minimizing patient migration. It indirectly promotes collaborative clinical research by encouraging accrual into clinical trials and supporting observational studies. Methods: RTR includes 150 oncology institutions across Italy. Clinical cases are shared asynchronously over a secure Web resource. Data, images and transactions are stored in an online clinical record. Patients are shared: 1. "logically”, when they are dealt with following common clinical practice guidelines; 2. "virtually”, when they are discussed over the network between two or more centers; 3: "physically", when they are referred to an excellence center for a specific treatment modality. Pathology review is arranged through transferal of paraffin-embedded specimens and upload of consultations. While it was chosen not to implement telepathology facilities, a teleradiology resource is now available. Results: From 2003 to 2011, more than 5,000 rare cancers cases (mostly sarcomas) have been uploaded. More than 1,300 teleconsultations have been delivered, while more than 1,000 patients moved across the network during their experience of disease. 700 cases were reviewed pathologically: amongst 365 cases originally diagnosed as soft tissues sarcomas up to 2010, treatment-relevant discordances were recorded in more than one third. An observational prospective study on gastrointestinal stromal tumors was done, enrolling 800 patients. An original paper documenting the activity of a drug in a highly specific sarcoma subgroup was published. Conclusions: Clinical asynchronous online collaboration on RC is feasible through a Web-based secure environment and proved the most practical way of clinical distant sharing. Pathologic review was a crucial network service, with a special added value in RC. Retrospective and prospective observational studies, and unplanned observations in very rare cases, were an interesting by-product.

Abstract:
Abstract A somatic mutation (V617F) in the pseudokinase domain of the non-receptor tyrosine kinase JAK2 is found in virtually all patients with the myeloproliferative disease (MPD) polycythemia vera (PV), and about half of those with essential thrombocythemia and chronic idiopathic myelofibrosis. When expressed in mice by retroviral bone marrow transduction and transplantation, JAK2 V617F but not JAK2 wild-type induces leukocytosis with neutrophilia and recapitulates the entire erythroid phenotype of PV, with polycythemia, reticulocytosis, low plasma Epo, and endogenous erythroid colonies (Zaleskas et al., PLoS ONE2006;1:e18; Wernig et al., Blood2006;107:4274; Lacout et al., Blood2006;108:1652). By analogy to BCR-ABL in chronic myeloid leukemia, JAK2 V617F is therefore a rational target for therapy in PV and other JAK2 V617F+ MPDs. Previous studies with a nonselective and parenteral tyrphostin JAK2 inhibitor suggested that short-term inhibition of JAK2 could decrease reticulocytosis in recipients of JAK2 V617F-transduced marrow (Zaleskas et al., op cit.). Here, we studied one of a novel series of inhibitors of JAK2, AZ-01, which potently inhibited JAK2 kinase activity (IC50 < 1nM) and suppressed proliferation of cell lines carrying the JAK2 V617F mutation. We treated cohorts of Balb/c mice with JAK2 V617F-induced polycythemia and leukocytosis with AZ-01 at 10 mg/kg by oral gavage twice daily, or with vehicle alone. After 28 days of treatment, AZ-01-treated mice had significant reductions in hematocrit, hemoglobin, reticulocytes, and splenomegaly, as well as normalization of peripheral blood leukocyte counts (Figure 1). These results demonstrate that oral administration of a potent and selective JAK2 inhibitor can reverse the hematopoietic abnormalities of JAK2 V617F-induced MPD in mice, and validate JAK2 as a target for therapy of human JAK2 V617F+ MPD. Figure Figure An orally available JAK2 inhibitor decreases the leukocyte count, hematocrit, and reticulocyte count in mice with JAK2 V617F-induced MPD. Leukocyte count (left), hematocrit (center) and reticulocyte counts (right) of cohorts of mice with JAK2 V617F-induced MPD treated with vehicle or drug at 10 mg/kg BID. Blood counts were assessed at 15 and 28 days of treatment. Decreases in d28 hematocrit and retic count in the drug-treated cohorts were significant (p=0.008 and p<0.0001, respectively, t-tests).

Abstract:
---------- Rare diseases gather up a large number of different pathologies, all very different among them but similar for the low statistical attendance of population (penetrance). Therefore there is a very low number of patients sick of the same pathology and their presence in different geographical areas makes objectively difficult to recruit patients in order to study their disease and coordinate and organize the research of the pathology. As a consequence there is a very reduced possibility to carry on clinical studies and genetic researches. In this framework, in order to face the dramatic necessity of sociological and sanitary assistance, treatment and rehabilitation of the rare patients, families members generally organize Rare Diseases Patient Organizations. At the moment these organizations develop an important activity with regard to organization, proposals, direct participation and publication of the scientific research results. These organizations also play an important part in supporting the organization and the realization of clinical trials. They play in total autonomy and are independent from every ethical and scientific oversight by the sanitary authorities and ethical committees. This extraordinary event known as “Research Led by Participants”, has been realized thanks to the large contacts possibilities and organization offered by the web which made possible the creation of virtual communities of patients, of blog and web site for information and communication and, more recently, for collecting statistical data, publication of the patients research results and the recruitment of patients in order to manage the studies following the rules and models proposed, for example, by the web site “PatientsLikeMe”. We must however put in evidence the important ethical issues involved in the research led by the participants. These aspects concern, obviously, either the scientific validity of these studies or the protection of the subjects who accept to be submitted to the experimentation. It is a completely new way of experimentation that requires the capacity to propose and follow a governance that must be accepted and shared by citizens/patients, “third sector”, research workers, institutions and ethical committees able to exploit the potential advantageous knowledge and create ethical rules inspired to those new situations. In this article it will be proposed a theoretical model of governance of this phenomenon and also it will be outlined ethical rules for operative plans.

Abstract:
Abstract Abstract 1894 Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) remains a frequent complication of hematopoietic cell transplantation with skin being a principal target organ. Murine models have provided some insight into the mechanisms of this complex disease process. However, mouse skin differs from human skin, and results of studies in rodents may not translate well to the clinic. Miniature swine is a well-recognized animal model for preclinical studies of skin including dermal toxicology, transdermal drug delivery and wound healing. Unlike skin of rodents, dogs or non-human primates, porcine skin is similar to human skin in terms of structure of epidermal rete ridges (Figure 1A), hair follicle structure and density, and presence of sweat glands and subcutaneous fat. We have developed a miniature swine model of haploidentical hematopoietic cell transplantation that results in stable stem cell engraftment, hematopoietic chimerism and donor skin flap tolerance without GVHD. Swine leukocyte antigen (SLA)ad animals receive 100cGy total body irradiation and T cell depletion using porcine CD3 immunotoxin prior to cytokine mobilized peripheral blood hematopoietic cell transplantation from a haploidentical SLAac donor. Daily cyclosporine is administered at doses adjusted to maintain serum levels between 400–800 ng/ml starting one day prior to transplantation and continued for 30 days with taper until day 45. Mixed hematopoietic cell chimerism persists in these animals and donor vascularized skin flaps are accepted without the need for maintenance immunosuppression regardless of whether they are placed at the time of hematopoietic cell transplantation or greater than 100 days later. Despite the initial resistance to GVHD in this model, acute cutaneous GVHD could be induced through infusion of a high dose of donor leukocytes (DLI) including 15 million donor T cells/kg recipient body weight administered 463 days post hematopoietic cell transplantation and 314 days post vascularized donor skin flap transplantation. Conversion to full donor hematopoiesis was observed between 3–4 weeks post DLI. At this time a mild skin rash was evident in both donor and host skin which appeared to progress specifically within host skin. The presence of both donor and host skin on a tolerant animal whose peripheral blood consists of a mixture of both donor and host derived hematopoietic cells provides a novel model to evaluate specific targets of acute GVHD. In this study we assess histologically the manifestations of acute GVHD in both donor and host skin and compare it to typical histological manifestations of acute GVHD observed in patients. Specifically, recipient skin developed superficial lymphoid infiltrates that progressed to confluence along the dermal-epidermal junction by day 21. These infiltrates were associated with intraepidermal migration, prominent basal cell layer keratinocyte apoptosis, and satellitosis virtually indistinguishable from grade 3–4 human cutaneous acute GVHD (Figure 1B). Superficial portions of hair follicles were involved, as also seen in human disease. Of interest, mild disease was detected in the donor skin grafts by day 62 post-DLI, where selective lymphoid infiltration in the tips of the epidermal rete ridges and in association with target cell apoptosis/satellitosis was documented, a finding remarkably similar to early targeting events in humans. These findings emphasize the value of the porcine model for translational studies of cutaneous GVHD. Preliminary data suggest differences in cellular targeting between recipient and donor skin whereby the latter may be triggered by the presence of chimeric recipient-derived hematopoietic elements that have populated donor grafts. Further studies are now possible to explore the effector-target cell interactions in this clinically-relevant model of human cutaneous GVHD. Figure 1: Comparison of normal porcine skin (A) resembling epidermal and dermal layers of human integument, and (B) recipient skin 34 days post DLI, showing brisk superficial lymphoid infiltrate associated with basal layer epidermal apoptosis. Abstract:
This article, written by JPT Technology Editor Chris Carpenter, contains highlights of paper IPTC 21441, “First-Time Worldwide Application of Glass-Reinforced Epoxy-Lined Tubing for Prevention of Asphaltene Deposition in Tubing in Oil Wells: A Case Study From Kuwait,” by Reji E. Chinnappan, SPE, Milan Telang, SPE, and Riyad Quttainah, SPE, Kuwait Oil Company, et al., prepared for presentation at the virtual 2021 International Petroleum Technology Conference, 23 March–1 April. The paper has not been peer reviewed. Copyright 2021 International Petroleum Technology Conference. Reproduced by permission. Asphaltene deposition in production tubing represents a major flow-assurance challenge. Common strategies to mitigate asphaltene deposition downhole include mechanical or solvent cleanouts and chemical inhibition. These are associated with production deferment, high job costs, safety and environmental risks, and operational issues. An operator has addressed this challenge using production tubing lined with glass-fiber-reinforced epoxy (GRE). This technology was implemented in two trial wells. The paper describes the different mitigation strategies employed by the operator and presents the findings of successful trials. Background Jurassic wells of a Kuwait Oil Company asset are producing light crude from a tight matrix-type reservoir located at a depth of 13,000–15,000 ft. Reservoir pressure has depleted from approximately 9,500–10,000 psi to approximately 6,000 psi because of sustained production in the absence of any significant pressure support. Oil production rates per well have diminished to the 500- to 1,000-BOPD range. The oil features high asphaltene onset pressures (4,000–5,000 psi). When considering time-lapse plots of caliper logs from a well where asphaltene deposition used to occur, the plot indicates that significant asphaltene deposition in the well took place below 4,500 ft and progressively increased over time. In approximately 5 months, the average internal diameter of the tubing reduced from 2.75 in. to less than 2 in., thereby constricting the flow significantly and requiring cleaning of the tubing. In extreme cases, the tubing string could be fully plugged. Many field trials with different tools and chemicals using batch and continuous treatment have been conducted in past years to solve this problem but without satisfactory results. Application of GRE-Lined Tubing for Asphaltene Control The operator decided to apply a novel strategy of using tubing internally lined with GRE based on its established ability to retard, and even eliminate, scale nucleation and deposition. The technology uses a thin-walled, solid-filament-wound GRE/fiberglass tube run inside carbon steel production tubing. Cement is pumped into the annulus between the steel tubing and the GRE liner. The ability to prevent asphaltene from sticking to the inner wall of the tubing is attributed to the smoother internal surface. It is also corroborated by a higher Hazen Williams coefficient value of 150 for GRE as compared with 110 for carbon steel pipe, which provides for lesser frictional pressure loss during flow. The GRE liners used by the operator have a surface roughness of 0.00011 in., which, unlike bare steel, is retained over the life of the GRE. The GRE-lined tubing proved to withstand temperatures of up to 280°F and hydrogen sulfide concentrations of up to 50%. This is comfortably more than the process conditions for the trial wells in consideration.

Abstract:
The subject. The article is devoted to the analysis of the draft political and constitutional reform that was announced in the last Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly at January 15, 2020.
The purpose of the article is to try to predict the positive and negative consequences of changing the legal status of the highest Russian authorities.
The methodology of the study includes analysis and interpretation of Presidential Ad-dresses to the Federal Assembly and Russian Constitution as well as dialectical approach and methods of political science.
The main results and scope of their application. For a long time there was a clear request for changes in the government, and various expert platforms discussed issues related to changing the Constitution of the Russian Federation, which was adopted at a national referendum in December 1993.
On January 15, 2020, Vladimir Putin addressed his 16th message to the Parliament. In ac-cordance with the Constitution, the President of Russia annually addresses the Federal Assembly with a message on the situation in the country and on the main directions of domestic and foreign policy. The last address turned out to be a landmark and historical one, as it announced the main provisions of the upcoming large-scale political and consti-tutional reform in Russia. Heads of constituent entities, members of the State Duma and the Federation Council, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers, Federal Ministers, heads of Fed-

eral bodies, judges will no longer be able to have foreign citizenship or a foreign resi-dence permit. He proposed even more stringent requirements for a candidate for the post of President: no foreign citizenship or residence permit even in the past, as well as per-manent residence in Russia for at least 25 years. The position of the State Council is being strengthened and it is reflected in the Constitution of the Russian Federation as an insti-tution of power in the country. The position of the Federal Assembly is strengthened by the fact that the Parliament is given the right to approve the candidacy of the Prime Min-ister, as well as all Deputy Prime Ministers and Federal Ministers. The status of local self-government and the role of governors in the regions is being raised.
The main reason for the reform is the desire to reduce the powers of the President and transfer part of them to the Parliament, so that the next President is no longer endowed with virtually absolute power, and, in turn, can not initiate another reform without the approval of all branches of government.
The author of the article identifies the reasons for the political reform and gives forecasts for the future after its implementation.
Conclusions. The author links these changes to the upcoming transfer of presidential power after 2024. The reform does not mean the transition of the Russian Federation to a parliamentary republic, since the head of state retains the status of a key figure in the po-litical system, and it is he who has concentrated key functions. Fixing a number of social obligations in the Constitution in terms of salaries and pensions will not have a significant impact on the socio-economic situation.

Abstract:
The reflections are part of the Master's Dissertation entitled Integration of digital media in basic education for the study of sustainability, Professional Master in Business Administration from Unoesc, Chapecó (Brazil). The research aims to understand the TPACK structure and its relationship to the process of teaching and learning in the context of the classroom. The research addresses the integration of digital media in the teaching-learning process, allowing the student to learn in a healthy, pleasurable, meaningful and innovative way. The structure is based on Koehler and Mishra (2009), who touted the need for teachers to understand pedagogically the inclusion of technologies in the context of the classroom. The study was developed through qualitative research, using semi-structured interviews with teachers of the Education Network of a municipality located in the Santa Catarina’s State, characterized as a case study. As for its nature, the research is classified as applied and based on its objectives, the study can be considered descriptive. The dice were analyzed by content technique analysis. Among the main results, it is identified that teachers use digital media available in schools, but present traditional postures where the student becomes a passive being. In schools where digital media integration occurs, work depends on the computer teacher. Some teachers yearn for the integration of technological resources in teaching practice, however, they need training. Keywords: Digital media, Learn, Teach, To know.Parole chiavi: Media digitali, Apprendere, Insegnare, Conoscere.ReferencesASSMANN, Hugo. Advances in research and technological innovations in Informatics are revolutionizing our society. We already live in a cyber-physical world: interaction and collaboration among humans occurs seamlessly both in physical and in virtual spaces and virtual agents automate tasks at all levels, including those that traditionally relied on human intelligence. Access to data and information is available to everybody, anywhere and at any time, eliminating barriers but also generating potential distorted usage. Whatever humans do is inevitably mediated by technology, which potentially invades the private sphere of individuals. Changes are happening so fast and their effects are so spectacular that their ethical implications are often understood too late or underestimated. This contribution briefly introduces the disruptive changes produced by advances in Informatics and their severe ethical implications. It argues that an interdisciplinary effort is needed to focus on ethical issues while research and innovation are developed rather than as an after-the-fact reflection.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This work presents a Virtual Assistant (VA) whose main goal is to supply information for Websites users. AVA is a software system that interacts with persons through a Web browser, receiving textual questions and answering automatically without human intervention. The VA supplies information by looking for similar questions in a knowledge base and giving the corresponding answer. Artificial Intelligence techniques are employed in this matching process, to compare the user’s question against questions stored in the base. The main advantage of using the VA is to minimize information overload when users get lost in Websites. The VA can guide the user across the web pages or directly supply information. This is especially important for customers visiting an enterprise site, looking for products, services or prices or needing information about some topic. The VA can also help in Knowledge Management processes inside enterprises, offering an easy way for people storing and retrieving knowledge. An extra advantage is to reduce the structure of Call Centers, since the VA can be given to customers in a CD-ROM. Furthermore, the VA provides Webmasters with statistics about the usage of the VA (themes more asked, number of visitants, time of conversation).

Abstract:
This paper presents a virtual laboratory’s conception. It is based on the problem frames approach and involves tke adaptation to computer assisted learning environments. It enphasizes the necessity of defining a certain number of new problem frames in order to adapt it to a learning environment, and particularly to simulations. We present the application of this conception method to the SAI project.
