Abstract:
The Internet affords the librarian many opportunities to enhance reference services. Online reference tools such as library catalogs, specialized indexes, directories, dictionaries, etc. provide access to bibliographic information, organizational information, and information about the net itself. In addition to the information resources available on the net, its communications power facilitates exchange of information and efficient use of expertise. Although finding specific information on the net can sometimes be a problem, due to the quantity of data and the net’s rapid expansion, search tools are being developed to mine the riches of the Internet. Abstract:
The Bloomsbury Architecture Library website provides an overview of architectural and interior design written primarily for secondary and undergraduate students. The content is divided into sections based on Place, Period, Subjects and Styles, Peoples, Cultures and Religions, Materials, and Architects, allowing users to explore the subject in a guided manner. The individual resources on the site are built around the newly revised Sir Banister Fletcher’s Global History of Architecture. This is supplemented by a collection of e-books providing deeper coverage on specific topics. An image collection of specific buildings, both plans and images, incorporates the important visual aspect of the topic. Within a specific topic, facets are provided to aid in further discovery. The sharp focus of this site provides an excellent starting point for research on architecture. The plans for additional resources will broaden coverage at a rate that should not overwhelm users and will keep the site relevant in the future.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper and research was to analyse the efficiency of the compiler-generated code for the graphics library and to present results obtained by optimization for the MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) architecture. Libpng is the official Portable Network Graphics reference library for use in applications that read, create, and manipulate PNG (Portable Network Graphics) raster image files. Given the data structure in the PNG files, as well as the capabilities of the MIPS instruction set, it was expected that significant improvements could be made. Graphic library libpng is optimized by using MIPS instruction set extension and tested on MIPS Malta 74K platform. Test results show, that by using MIPS optimization test, execution times are substantially improved. Our libpng optimization have achieved performance increase of 10 %–78 % depending on optimized routine.

Science librarians were well-represented in the March for Science on Earth Day, April 22, in cities from coast-to-coast, from the heartlands to the deep south and the far west. The March for Science drew tens of thousands of scientists, science communicators, and science enthusiasts worldwide, with a mission statement that was strictly nonpartisan.“It was both exhilarating and exhausting in Washington, D.C., where we spent five hours standing in the rain at the foot of the Washington Monument,” said Alison S. Ricker, head of the Science Library at Oberlin College. “Inspiring messages from speakers and good music kept us energized for the eventual march along Constitution Avenue toward the U.S. Capitol. By the time we passed the EPA building, marchers and spectators were full of enthusiasm, shouting ‘fund the EPA!’ and ‘alternative facts have got to go!’”

Abstract:
This article explores how our understanding of the materiality of knowledge has changed during the 20th century and how these meanings got incorporated into the concept of information. Special attention is given to Paul Otlet, the founding father of documentation, and to Norbert Wiener, the founding father of cybernetics. Furthermore, there is the question of what these changes that surround the notion of information imply for the architectural conception of the library. If the current discourse treats the library no longer as a space of books but as an information space, what implications does this evolution have for the architecture of the contemporary library? What is this information space that architects are required to articulate and to interpret?

Abstract:
Technological advances have now mastered several aspects, namely in the world of education, fashion, lifestyle and the world of architecture. For example libraries, in the past, libraries were seen from the number of books collected and also how big the library building was but for now all that has changed, libraries are now required to be able to follow the wishes of its users. In this case the users are the millennial generation who have characteristics that are close to technology, like convenience and are free-spirited. According to a survey from the Boston Consulting Group and the University of Berkley about the millennial generation, the conventional reading interest of millennials has decreased and they prefer to use smartphones to read and libraries are considered unimportant to them. The design of the Banjarbaru Millennial Library uses the Behavioral Architecture method and the Blurring Architecture concept. This design aims to create a library in accordance with the characteristics of millennials who like freedom by implementing this freedom into its buildings

Abstract:
The paper presents a short review of the development tendencies of academic and public libraries. In the period of the last two decades the features of minimalistic expression became stronger in the architecture of libraries. The main criteria revealing minimalistic expression in architecture are investigated: simplicity, geometry, light, integrity and statical character. Such libraries as the Library of Porto University (Portugal, 1996), the Library of Delfo Technological University (Holland, 1998), distinquish themselves in simplicity of forms and clearness of structure. Minimalists consider colour and light as the main elements of modelling and forming space and size. For example, the Royal Library called “Black Diamond” is distinquished by a black façade (Denmark, 1999).The newest works of minimalists expanded the concept of minimalistic form. Minimal form in architecture may be expressed not only by primary geometrical figures, but by rather plastic derivatives as well. Two different works of Japanese architects splendidly illustrate it: it is of quadratic plan rectangular prism practically glass mediateka in Sedai town (2001) and of irregular cylinder (egg form) entirely glass library in Morioka town. The authors of the paper present a conceptual project of the Public Library in Vilnius, prepared in 2003, which has distinct features of minimalistic architecture. The building’s form is rational–a quadratic prism one wall of which is concaved inside what gives the building expressiveness and attraction. Minimalism in library architecture reveals the changed conception of modern library as well.

Abstract:
Architecture in Oxford between the Civil War and the early Georgian period presents a fascinating picture of great stylistic change and originality, as vernacular building traditions largely inherited from the Gothic of the Middle Ages were superseded by new design philosophies derived from Renaissance interpretations of classical architecture. The new architecture was driven by an increasingly élite and academic taste, largely dependent upon expensive foreign books and even more costly foreign travel, and necessitated fundamental changes to the established building practices of the colleges, which had hitherto relied largely on local master masons for both construction and design. As architecture ‘was something outside the ken of the average Oxford don’, knowledgeable men, especially those who had travelled abroad and seen modern buildings, became important arbiters of taste, and often drifted into architecture as a result. The first and most famous Oxford man to take this path was Christopher Wren of Wadham College in the 1660s, but he was followed a generation later by Henry Aldrich, Dean of Christ Church, after whose death in 1710 the mantle passed to George Clarke of All Souls College. It is with the significance of the latter two men’s activities at Christ Church that we will presently be concerned.

Abstract:
The library is one of the building functions needed in the university's development standards. A library serves as a place to find information and collections as well as an educational recreation place. Not only providing facilities for the academic community, but Library also expected to be useful for all people, especially those in the surrounding area. For this reason, the supporting area of Science Techno Park which is an area for the development of economic and educational activities in USU Kwala Bekala campus and its surroundings chooses Library as one of its facilities. In USU Kwala Bekala master plan, the location of Library is in the entrance zone with 16 Ha area. This zone is the gateway of USU Kwala Bekala area so the concept of "building as a gate" is forming the building mass. The site forms two separate parts due to its area which surrounded by the main road and separated by other collector roads. The goals of this project are how to design a campus environment that cares for the surrounding environment, can provide comfort to its users, and can create sustainable buildings. After analyzing and implementing the concept of green architecture, the final design concept are two building masses connected with sky bridge which can accommodate 723 seats, windows and inner court to allow the airflow and natural light enters the rooms, secondary skin and vines as its facade to buffer over sunshine and noises, water and trash recycling treatment to reduce clean water use, and solar panel as additional electricity energy.
